Good pizza and a reasonable poor of Guinness but an incredibly rude waitress. They were running a special for Americans on Thanksgiving. We stopped in with our family for the free pizza fully intending on purchasing lots of other food and drinks. Mind you this deal was advertised in loads of Dublin websites the waitress couldn't believe we asked about the deal, she was annoyed when we asked for napkins or water, and she snapped at us when we inquired about the bill. Let me set the scene. Dublin, Ireland. Our first stop across the Atlantic. We arrive to Storm Emma, Dublin's worst snowstorm in 35 years. Great timing, right? This resulted in us being cooped for a day in a half in our Airbnb, since most of Dublin shut down. Businesses of all kinds were closed. The cabin fever had set in. My girlfriend and I were itching to explore the pub scene or any scene for that matter! We decided to layer up and go for a walk...in 32 degree weather and a foot of snow. Hey we're Floridians, we were up for some change! Lo and behold, we look up at the pub around the corner from our Airbnb, and the doors are open. We see Dubliners out front smoking cigarettes, joshing around, happy to be out in the world. We nearly sprinted into The Back Page, which is a fantastic name for a pub by the way. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. Customers were relaxed, the bartenders were chipper, and there was lots of wiggle room to sit or stand throughout the two story venue. Local beers and local whiskies filled the menu, and the prices were very reasonable. Attached to the bar is a pizza joint, I assume they are under the same ownership. We ordered the Sonia O'Sullivan pie and Bruschetta and both were excellent. Having Italy on the horizon in just a matter of days, we were not expecting 5 star pizza in Dublin. To our surprise, the texture and overall flavor of the pie were absolutely phenomenal. Full of life, cheerfulness, and exuberance at The Back Page. Recommend to anyone! read more

[WARNING FOR AMERICAN TOURISTS] - Avoid this pub if you're after a friendly Irish welcome. I grew up in Dublin and was there with my American girlfriend, only to encounter the rudest front of house staff imaginable. He looked down on us right from the start, scoffing when we asked for a table. When we politely asked for other recommendations for where we could get food indoors, he looked at us with disbelief and said "why would I do that, I'm not going to do that." As we left we thanked him and, he just raised an eyebrow, no thanks or goodbye--completely dismissive and arrogant. Never been looked down upon or treated so disrespectfully by a front of house in my entire life.. If you're tourist, you'll definitely get a better experience at almost any other pub in Ireland. This place seriously needs to work on its hospitality and their front of house should learn a few manners before being put out front again! read more

Absolutely amazing pizza and would be my favourite toppings anyway. Not too much grease considering THE AMOUNT of meat on this thing Second pizza is the Sonia O'Sullivan your classic margherita. Probably the nicest margherita I've ever had. Usually find margherita boring but the the chunks of the cork buffalo mozzarella were banging! MOST IMPORTANT I'm pretty sure it's crack cocaine but they have it on the menu as chilli jam. Beautiful authentic Italian style pizza a definite spot to return to! This is a really nice pub. Not too hipstery or up itself - it's a really nice combo of old fashioned pub with new fashioned sensibilities, like craft beer (yawn) and some fairly whopper cocktails (not so yawn). Good pizza, and lots of other random happenings, like the Bring The Toys night where they played the toy show, and everyone brought along a toy for Temple St Hospital. They have weekly pingpong tournaments, and at this time of year, hot apple cider, mulled wine and hot mince pies. Winner!! read more

Finally! A pub in Phibsboro that suits all. The Back Page is a place to go for a coffee, a pint, a pizza or a cocktail. The music is great (think Talking Heads, Sister Sledge etc). The staff are ridiculously friendly, not to mention knowledgeable about their vast selection of craft beers and cocktails. A special mention should be made of their coffee and tea which they source from 3FE and wall & keogh respectively. They also serve pizza, salads and nibbles. I have not yet sampled but I look forward to doing so. Especially as all is cooked in house. But that's not the best bit. The best bit is all the different games you can play there, there's even a dedicated PlayStation room! That's also ping pong, darts, arcade games etc. Top all this off with a cosy, heated beer garden and you have all the makings of an excellent night out. read more

I went here before a Bohs game one night and it was lovely. The atmosphere is great! The food is delicious and not expensive! I had the Sonia O'Sullivan and it was yum! The staff were nice too. It seems to be a really great pub, there are posters everywhere saying all the different events they do during the week and at the weekend, table quizzes, games nights etc. They have board games you can play as well in the pub, which i always think is a nice touch. Only downside was the toilets weren't great. No soap in the dispenser and one cubicle had no toilet seat. Id say it would be a great pub to be in if there was a big game on. I'd read good reviews of The Back page so decided to give it a bash tonight to have pizza and watch the World Cup Qualifiers. The place wasn't too full but the menu offers a proviso that all food is made from scratch so it takes a while. We ordered garlic bread for starters and two Sonia O'Sullivans. The garlic bread arrived about fifteen minutes later, freezing cold and drenched in really sweet balsamic vinegar. It was the least garlicy garlic bread I've ever had. As we were eating our garlic bread, I noticed two people going to the bar to get chilli oil etc. Always a bad sign as it tends to indicate flavourless pizza. Surprise, surprise- our pizza arrived and they were bland. No flavour, quite oily and just bland. I won't be back for food. They do really good drink promotions so if I were to come back, It would be just for that. The toilets could do with a clean to be honest. They were grubby and had no toilet paper in them. Absolutely epic pub! Possibly the nicest pub grub, sweet craft brews on tap, large venue with a huge beer garden and a shed load of board games! Came here for the first time on Patrick's day which as you can imagine is a busy enough day to be hitting up a pub. While lots of tables were busy we were able to find a little table after a while of sitting at the bar. When picking drinks staff were super helpful and made some suggestions. Pretty large selection of beers available and some awesome deals such as two Cuba libres for 12 beans! Now onto the pizzas. Good lord the pizzas!! There's a large mouth wateringly good selection that do not disappoint in the slightest. I got the Katie Taylor which had a mass amount of veg and meat piled onto a thin baked pizza. No grease and loads of taste. I was incredibly impressed by an option with walnuts and jalapeños. Absolutely delicious! Between 5-7 you get a pizza and pint for 12 quid which is a steal!! read more

The pearl of Phisboro. The back page is a nice pub with many entertainment offers, board games, TV sport available. The venue is big, large, with a beer garden we smokers can practice their habit staying in the pub. Good offer of craft beers and cocktail options, with some offers in Cuba Libre, white Russians and few more that I don't remember now, but you can find on a board at the bar. Food served: they do the pizza in the american way, with a nice crust. I would recommend you to visit this pub, at least once, even if it is a bit far away from the city centre. read more

Long planned visit after hearing a lot about the place. Drinks reasonably priced, interesting food selection. Tempted all night by the smell of the pizza base but the January diet put paid to that. Very much stumbled across this place by accident. It doesn't look much, but its got an amazing and well priced brunch menu (its quite evident theres no short order chef in the back, but rather someone with an excellent training who knows how to combine and mix flavors to perfection!). Aparently good for pizza, though I didn't try them, but would recommend anything on the brunch menu. Also a great beer garden to the rear, complete with table tennis and lots of little nooks. I can see this place becoming a massive hit with not just college students but with the young trendies. It seems fit for fun nights (has sort of a p-macs vibe only not fake and overfull) and easy mornings (I didnt try the coffee they were serving but it smelt so good!) read more

Pizza and a pint, what a simple concept. Arguably the only place on the Northside doing quality pizzas in a pub, and worth the trip 100% The pub itself has been revamped since its Red Windmill days. It's now more modern but still classic in aspects. There's a game room upstairs, TVs everywhere and a nice smoking garden out back. The menu is very cool, we both had pizza and it was awesome. Yoooooooo, I love this spot. It's my go to spot when I hit up Dublin (represent D7!). Drinks are reasonable and they have the crazy specials, so you can get turnt with the mad quickness. It's all good cause they have bangin' food, especially the pizza. As a New Yorker, I'm always like nah chill that ain't good pizza, but real talk the pizza is slammin'. The staff are mad cool. been here a few times and its already one of my favourite bars in dublin. I hate noisy bars where you cant hear anything anyone is saying and there is no where to sit. The back page is really chilled out with a lovely atmosphere, cheap drinks, loads of sports stuff on loads of tv's if thats your thing ( it isnt mine) and lots of great board games that are really fun in a group. Came here for the Ireland v Scotland game. Place was absolutely rammed to the brim. Atmosphere was great. Crowd was of a good variety. I recommend the pizza. From what i hear it is from the same people who make the pizza in the big blue bus. Its amazing. On a quite night you and a few friends can sneak off upstairs to the gaming room. Yes, a gaming room. It has a pool and table tennis table. Downstairs they've got a sort of snug area with a PlayStation and Fifa15. Nice little spot for some group banter. This place has a good reputation but I'm not a fan. We were told pizzas would take about 30 minutes. We waited over an hour for ours and it was nothing to write home about. Tasty, but nothing special. But by far the worst part was the bar service. The barman dealing with us was so rude. I get that people have bad days but there's no need to take it out on paying customers. He was abrupt and condescending to my friend when she asked for cash back, slamming the till closed and rolling his eyes. Not how you treat customers. This is a great Friday night spot for a few beers and pizza... and maybe a football match. Their pizza is SO GOOD! its awesome, super simple and lots of varieties to choose from. You can also order pizza from here on Deliveroo (I wish I lived closer) The back page has a great range of craft beer and drinks offers on 'cocktail'. My favourite drink is the Moscow Mule and I also cant turn down a Crabbies Ginger Beer with lime and bitters. On friday nights they have a fun general knowledge (kinda tricky though) quiz that you can partake in which is a bit of a laugh, if you win you get drink tokens from the bar...free booze - happy days! I had a bad experience in the back page. I went on a Sunday night it wasn't too busy. We ordered three pizzas. 45 minutes later and no sign of our pizza. Finally one of the pizzas arrived but we were waiting on the other two. Getting impatient now we started on the first pizza. Honestly, it was nothing special. We were finished the pizza and still waiting. I went up to check when the pizza would be ready and we were told it wasn't in the oven yet. We gave up asked for our money back much to their surprise. We went because it had good reviews of the pizza. I suppose if we were drinking we wouldn't have noticed the lengthy waiting period. Not for us. I headed to Back Page on an evening escape from my apartment to get a drink and check out the menu, especially their pizza. The ambiance is cozy yet lively. It's a great gathering place to meet friends and have a pint. The pizzas looked appetizing as well, but not what I expected after reading about the owner's story about his two-decker bus pizza joint. The crust is thicker than your typical napoletano style pizza. I did try the flatbread with the red pesto dip. This is so-so. Everything was slightly heavy on the salt. I eyed the salads that came out and those seemed to be the best dishes I saw. They had a good selection of beers, including Lagunita's Little Sumpin. As far as cocktails go, I would say stick with the beer. Apart from your typical well drink combos, you won't find classic Italian cocktails here. My friend and I were passing thru phibsboro, we decided to pop into the back page for a lager and a chat. Staff seemed friendly, place was almost empty. Mid way thru our second pint, we both felt ill. Headed home, feeling nauseas, got into bed, vomited, spent next 9 to 10 hours on some horrendous hallucinatory trip. Next morning, i saw 6 texts on my phone. Tim, my friend went thru much the same thing. My best guess is barstaff popped a head shop chemical into our lagers. God knows why ? Amusement ? Out of badness ? Never again. We were well - dressed, well - spoken, considerate customers. We'd take the staff into court, but on advice, it would be a difficult one to prove legally.
