Thomas House is a nice little punk pub that is a 15 minutes walk outside of city centre & away from the Crazy ass tourists. It reminded me of a place I used to go to in Bellflower called Midway. The only difference is they have good punk music. The beer was excellent and I must quote them on this, "no sissy drinks like an apple martini." I will forever be grateful to this pub as I discovered St. Bernardus. Only the best beer in the world and it's made by Monks. Something about the rich flavors in it made for a climatic experience. As I drank that pint, I tasted all it had to offer. It's dark with a full, ivory-colored head. It was amazing, try it and don't hesitate to go to a punk bar in Dublin, Ireland when you get a chance. First time in here the other day and I must say I enjoyed it rather a lot. Now it was mid-afternoon when I frequented, so I can't say much about the late evenings' entertainment. But, what I can say is this: - It reminded me very much of a New York dive bar inside and I felt very much at home! - They allowed me to bring in my burrito and mill it with my pint as I was starving and they don't seem to serve food - The music was a bit of an eclectic rock mix which I enjoyed - The bar tenders in general were sound - There are lots of drinks specials on Will defo be back, and update this review with more information afterwards! read more

The inimitable Thomas and his dearest public house. So critically important to the development of Man that "THEY" named the whole street after the pub. Thomas has existed longer than time itself and his pub is an integral part of the Universe, built on the back of an enormous turtle. We were very surprised by this little find. We were meeting people before a gig at Vicar street and we liked it so much we came right back here after the gig. There is a good selection of beer behind the bar, which kept our thirst sated. But it was the music that kept us entertained first and the decor second. It's a dive bar you see, not that I'd know it. I hear the word dive bandied about on yelp about bars, but a lot of it appears to be debate... from what I read. I like the place, dive bar or not. The staff are nice, the music is good, the decor entertainingly dark and the clientele funky. I'll be back sometime, definitely. read more

On a good night, Thomas House will provide the best party possible in Dublin. I don't come here as often as I'd like, as I usually need weeks to recover from the madness, but that makes the chosen night even more special. Particularly popular among the creative crowd, who all get along although the breathing space can be limited, this energetic venue is an important part of Dublin's club-scene, one where local DJ provide a wide range of danceable tunes and the party-people show them their appreciation by jumping, cheering and even crowd-surfing. I've had some great nights here, and a couple of mad ones. The drinks are moderately priced and the DJs make sure you'll get your week-worth of dancing. Just make sure not to wear your favourite heals, as you will definitely get a few pints spilled on your feet. Instead, grab your dancing-shoes and join the fiasco! read more

I agree with RC and his lofty predecessor there, particularly about the open-air asylum. I should start my review by pointing out that I am not cool. Everyone else is cooler than me, and everyone else stays up later than I do. I don't care where the new place to be to be seen is, I don't want to shout over the music, and usually, I don't want to stay out until 2 a.m. My fiance' is my height, so I'm not on the pull and I don't wear heels unless I'm properly dressed up. That said, I'm not usually out in jeans. I want a good time, good pints and I want either to talk with my friends or to dance, but not to scream at them over music no one's dancing to until we all give up and get drunk. Thomas House is laid-back, comfortable, has bizarre decor (Matchbox toys stuck to the wall, fish tank with no fish), a foozbol table, and pitchers of Amstel for a tenner. The night we were there, they played Motown and Jacko, and life was good. I imagine the headcases could get to be a problem on a busy night, but for a bunch of beers with an arty set of lads after a, schnar, art exhibition in a reclaimed warehouse, it was just about perfect to get back to the surreality Dublin is good for. read more

It's only open in the evening, as suited to its dark, grungy décor - look out for the toy cars that adorn its walls - and it is popular with cool for school students from the nearby National College of Art and Design. I went here for the first time last weekend. My friends and I wanted to meet up somewhere smart on pints- because lets face it, Dublin isn't always the cheapest place to go out and drink for the night- and somewhere with good atmosphere to hang out at for awhile.Thomas House was the right call. They served up terrific pints of Guiness for a fair 4.30. There were other drink specials for spirits (around 5 euro for something festive) and some deals on bottles (i.e. 3 for 10 euro). The selection for drinks was so good we stayed all night. Why trek all over town when the better deals are where you are and the booze will be the same? Thomas House has its own vibe, similar to dive bars in NYC and The States I've been to, but more unique to Dublin. From 9-10pm, we were a few of the only ones there. We had spots by the bar and moved down to a table and chairs later. You could easily sit and talk with friends all night and be only an arms reach from either of the two bars inside. The bar is located in the middle of both rooms and seats surround the room. If you don't want to sit though, that's okay because there is room to float around the two rooms and meet people. At 10pm the music got louder, the DJ went from classic rock to more current hits, and there was an obvious increase in crowd size. I liked the classic rock at the beginning of the night, but thought the music choices all night were good choices. There were even a few lads that tried to start a mosh pit, but no dice There's a mix of of folks here: punk, rockers, average joes, and people just walking in to see what the buzz is about. . The men at the bar did well all night- attentive, friendly, and generous on the pours. When it's closing time you're in a tight spot on Thomas Street for takeaway and taxis, so there you go. If you're into divey, punky, rocker, distressed leather and denim with studs (and not in the ironic hipster way) situations, Thomas House will be the place for you. It's a concert venue and bar all in one, so I guess I should say I'm reviewing the bar area. Here's what I can say about Thomas House: An eclectic, cool, rocker crowd. Everyone seemed pretty mellow and nice, most likely because they had been tired out by all of the moshing they did on the concert venue level below. Drinks are standard prices for Dublin (so, extortionate), though there was a deal for 3 bottles of Erdinger for €10. Quite a steal, I'd say, although I didn't partake. A really funky, independent place, though not necessarily my cup of tea. Thomas House gets packed to the brim on weekends, so good luck finding a seat unless you awkwardly hover over people who look like they're leaving soon...or awkwardly hover over them so they do leave... When the 'last call' lights starting flickering at 12:30, startlingly early for a Saturday night, we asked the owner (who was seated at the bar) what time it closed. He said, 'whenever I feel like it.' Fair enough, I guess...he seems to get more than enough enough business from what felt like every punk rock fan of Dublin (which numbers to a lot). Quick note: the front area gets really cold and drafty if the door's open. Apparently, it's not horribly rude if you go and close it. The best bar in Dublin. I'm biased only because I believe it to be the best bar in Dublin. Great music is a constant whether it's (vinyl) DJs, live acts in the main bar or in Bruisers (the venue downstairs) or even from the in-house sound system. Local, domestic and international live acts which range from free entry to inexpensive tickets. Events, quizzes, an in-house barber every week... Great selection of craft and independent beers + spirits, all of which are more than fairly priced. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful and the owners are diamonds. On your own or with friends, you'll have a great time and what's more, your custom is always appreciated which means a lot to everyone. Thomas House is Independently owned, kicking against the pricks' and doing a mighty fine job of it too. All of the above seems like an understatement now that I've written it. When I found out about a punk rock bar in Dublin, I had to check it out. I was very happy that my wife and I chance to get some beers here. The bar has that divey/punk rock aesthetic to it. It is almost like a bar you see in NYC or Philly area. They have a great selection of craft beer and local Irish beers as well. Our bartender Pat was incredibly friendly with us. This is a great little spot for good music and craic. They have a good punk/ska/alternative scene here. The beer prices are also very good in comparison to most places in the city centre. The only two complaints I have with the place is it is quite small and when it fills up navigating through the place and to the bar is almost impossible, so I avoid big shows here. And they only have one bathroom with a single toilet, which again on nights when there is something on means you will be queuing men and women together all for one single solitary toilet. But its no bother most nights as long as its not overly busy. The staff are friendly and music is good so worth the visit. read more

Fantastic weekend spot. Despite it being a hipster hangout, it's not too cool for regular cubes like myself. There's always great music on in the background (keep an eye out for the PAIRS DJ set every couple of months for a comfortingly retro indie night), and the array of craft beers is just the right side of bewildering, and the staff are friendly. read more

Best bar in Dublin hands down, in my opinion. Great rotation of selected craft beers on tap & the bar staff are all as sound as anything. Very knowledgeable about their beers & whiskeys etc too. The bar itself has a welcoming atmosphere & very reasonable prices, especially baring in mind it's really just a short walk from the City Centre. Worth grabbing a seat at the bar just to overhear the banter between staff & regulars or even worth just grabbing a table if you just fancy getting out of the gaff for a quiet(ish) mid week pint. The music is savage and they host great live gigs regularly as well as speciality music nights - Punk, Hardcore, Ska, Indie, Northen Soul, Rockabilly, Rock etc etc. They even had the legendary Jello Biafra from Dead Kennedys perform a live vinyl dj just over a year ago. No cover charge. Just a Punk/Alternative Icon, spinning vinyl provided by the owners & having a blast in the process.
