Texting, texting, texting.... waiting for the fish and chips
Kim S.

I really wanted fish and chips, and this was super close to our hotel. The food was very good but it was super noisy so you can't even hold a conversation - and this is a Sunday!

Standard pub with food. Didn't order any food, so can't comment, but it was close to our accommodations, so great place to enjoy a pint or two.

We stopped into Slattery's for lunch. We were seated at a high table next to the bar. The place has a lot of history and character. I had the lamb stew that came with bread. It had chunks of lamb, carrots, potatoes, onions, leeks and spices. It was a large portion and hearty. It could have used more salt or flavor but was satisfying on a cold day.

They call condiments "sauces" here and recommend the brown sauce (malted vinegar) with you fries which they call chips.

My wife and I wandered in here on our vacation and enjoyed the atmosphere. Service was good, friendly and helpful. They answered our touristy questions like what is the sport playing in tv (hurling) and why was there a bowl of water with lemon served with the chicken wings (to wash your fingers off in after). The food (wings) was good. I liked how the wings were not overly sauced but still flavorful and meaty. The Guinness was a proper pour and tasted better here than in America. The pub apparently was one of thin lizzy's first gigs and they play lots of local live music after business hours. A solid food pub experience in Dublin.

When I first decided to go to Dublin for vacation, I knew more or less of all the things I wanted to do. I wanted to eat Irish Breakfasts' and drink as much homeland Guinness (at domestic prices) as I could. The second I landed I had put a hard ban on all food and drink until I had gotten to Slattery's for my official first meal. I didn't even drink water between the airport and the bar! I chose Slattery's based on Anthony Bourdain's recommendation. Honestly it lived up to it, for each day I was in Dublin, I had an Irish breakfast and Slattery's was one of the better ones. Although Slattery's did seem to miss some of the other staples of a normal Irish breakfast (baked beans), I was fully satisfied after eating everything on the plate. I loved the thick cut of black and white pudding. I've always loved asian versions of blood sausage and the Irish one is just as good, if not better. For drinks I opted for the standard Guinness or two. Slattery's is definitely not the only pub in Ireland and definitely not the only place you can get the hearty Irish Breakfast, but definitely make a stop here if you're in the neighborhood; At the very least for a pint and some food. This is likely to be a mainstay of any future trips to Ireland for me. Sláinte!

Pubs in Dublin are for drinks not food. So this place is lively for drinks and hanging our with friends any night of the week. The food is not good. I tried the lamb stew and it was extremely salty, the red wine is average as well and served warm way warmer then a red wine should be served at.

Went there on a Wednesday evening to get something to eat before going to the movies. The bar is ok. It was quite quiet since it was a weekly night, the place wasn't busy at all which was good as we didn't want to get in a packed bar where it's impossible to talk or sit. The menu was kinda weird. It's good to have a lot of choices but they offered Chinese, Italian and Irish food... That was really bizarre. I took the steak sandwich and it was really good. I really liked it.

Slatterys has that old time feel without being an old man's pub. The decor is traditional with its chunky wooden tables, tiled floors and big glass windows. This pub is most often busy with a mix of older and younger customers. I discovered it after friends of mine who work in a pub suggested we go there. I think it's popular with those who work in the service industry. When I was there last night, there was live music. Three musicians, a guitarist and two violinists, were playing traditional Irish music. There was a great atmosphere, really laid-back, it being Sunday and all. Slatterys makes a carvery lunch most days and offers really great service. The bartenders are very professional and polite.

Took some Aussie relatives here, it's a nice atmosphere and great Irish feel to it. Waitress was very nice to us. My relatives had steak and chips, the chips are massive and delicious!! I had the 'Slaney Valley Wicklow Lamb Stew' which was soooo delicious!!! Bit disappointed with the plainness of the bread that came with it, a nice crusty roll or soda bread would have suited it better. Also.... isn't Slaney Valley in Wexford....;) My mother got the mixed veg soup which was nice, then a chicken lettuce and tomato sandwich. The chicken was spicy so they really should have that detail on the menu, as my mother couldn't eat it. Desserts were baileys cheesecake which was ok, but the apple pie was amazing!! Definitely recommend that!!!

The authentic Victorian setting, the Victorian mahogany fittings, the mosaic marble tiled floors and granite tabletops, the mahogany bar, capped with red Connemara marble, follows the classic Victorian architectural pattern. Being here is just a wondrous experience, the place is cosy, warm and the friendly of the people. So glad I picked this place as my first of Dublin.

Tucked down Dame Court just off Dame Street, The Stag's Head is one of those rare pubs that feels genuinely historic rather than designed to look old. The building dates to the late 1800s, and the interior retains the ornate features of a classic Victorian "gin palace"--rich carved wood, stained glass, brass rails, and a warm, glowing bar that feels wonderfully preserved. We stopped in around 4:30 pm, which turned out to be a perfect time to visit. There were other patrons enjoying drinks and food, but the atmosphere was calm and relaxed rather than loud or rowdy. It felt like the kind of place where locals drop in for a quiet pint on their way home from work before the evening crowd arrives. The staff were excellent--friendly, welcoming, and attentive without being intrusive. The food was very good (we failed to take photos because we were too busy enjoying it). As a vegetarian, I was thrilled to see the Impossible burger front and center on their menu; it was deliciously prepared with guacamole on a brioche bun, and not an afterthought on the menu. My companions both chose the Irish Beef Burger, and said it was excellent. One thing to know: this is a traditional Victorian pub, so cocktails aren't really part of the program. Expect beer, wine, or spirits rather than mixed drinks. In a place like this, that actually feels exactly right. Other pubs do serve mixed drinks. Between the history, the ambience, the quality of the food, and the wonderful staff, The Stag's Head is the kind of place that makes you feel like you've experienced a real piece of Dublin.

The place was empty before we arrived, but luckily we'd brought a large enough group to make the entire place our own. The candelabras, mood lighting and high, domed ceilings make this place enchantingly atmospheric, but let's not forget the practicalities. For fun early houses that serve already somewhat inebriated people, try The Chancery. The Wind Jammer is the type of early house that caters to shift workers and Gardaí from Pearse St coming off the night shift. Apart from a few couples the morning after the Trinity Ball, they wouldn't let in too many post-club revellers. The door is closed most early mornings, and they have a CCTV camera to give ya a good hard scrutinising before they'll let you in. The only time I was there for early pints, there was only one other group of young lads there and the barman looked like he was about to stop serving them. During the rest of the day and night, the Wind Jammer is a quiet pub frequented mainly by old, grumpy locals, who would sooner bite your head off than ask you the time of day. If you're really desperate for a drink and can't make it til half ten when the rest of the pubs open, by all means go to The Wind Jammer. Otherwise, there isn't that much else to recommend to it. Oh, one other thing. The Wind Jammer is the closest pub to Windmll Lane Studios, so U2 and The Saw Doctors among others have retired there for post-recording session pints over the years. Not the type of thing that would interest me, but sure it might interest you so I thought that I'd tack it on the end there
