The space looks non descript from the outside but inside it's huge. It's like a proper American style sports bar. Great place to watch the match, might catch the hurling here today. They do food... Pool tables! That made me rather happy. A lot of students and the new multicultural faces of Dublin united with their love of good drink offers. I really like this place, it's just really happy! The Living Room has its good and bad points. Let's start with the positive. This pub has a selection of imported beers with you can order by the pint or pitcher. It also offers your typical pub food so you don't have to run out if you're hungry. There's a large seating area in the back that is heated which comes in handy most nights. Finally, there's a pool table. Now for the bad: I guess my main problem with this pub is the atmosphere. The times that I have been here I found the customers to be slightly suspect. Situated right off the top of O'Connell Street, a lot of weirdos trickle in and out of here. Another not-so-nice thing about this place is the ladies' toilet. The Living Room used to be called the Sidewalk Café not so long ago, but a few years ago they changed the name but left everything else exactly as it was. The Living Room is a pub of many facets. It's right across the road from Cathal Brugha St DIT, so there's a lot of students there on weeknights, which means that the pubs pricing scale caters to this market: reasonably priced pints, pitchers, etc. The pub also has a really big TV screen, so a lot of people will come to watch matches there. The Living Room is located very close to the centre of Dublin's large Chinese community, so there are often a fair few Chinese amongst the bar's patrons. They also hold live music there from time to time. There's also the fact that The Living Room is located in one of the more not-so-pleasant areas of the north inner-city. A while ago now, when I was young and innocent (so a WHILE ago), I went to see a gig in The Living Room. I think that the lad I was going with thought that it was some sort of trad night. When we got there, it turned out that the gig was the second half of a double bill: The Celtic Supporters Club presents the Old Firm Derby, Followed by Gary Óg and the Sons of Éire. For those of you unfamiliar with any of the elements above, the Old Firm derby is the means through which the citizens of Glasgow exercise their sectarian hatred for one another, and a quick Google search on Gary Óg or his former band, Éire Óg, will reveal that he is not one of the purveyors of the tourist-friendly trad as played in Temple Bar. In fact, Gary Óg more specialises in the sort of "let's kill the English/the Troubles were generally a positive thing" end of the oeuvre. While this sounds pretty intimidating (and it really was), once we got into the swing of things, it was actually a really good night. The Living Room has a good sound system, nice smoking area, and for all of their terror-inducing appearance (shaved heads and tattooed forearms being the order of the day), the people there were actually really nice. You'd just have to be careful whose pint you knocked over. So, in conclusion, The Living Room is good generally, though it can be a mixed bag, so tourists; mind yourself going in there wearing your St George's cross shorts. read more

Pretty solid sports bar - and I only ever go there for that so that's what I'll be basing my review on - with big screens both inside and outside. Booking a table with them is no hassle, even if it's just for a small group. Inside you have big round tables with couches, ideal for groups of around 6 people. If you want to head outside, you'll find a big open space with stadium-like rows of seats in front of a huge screen, but also a small covered area with a couple more tvs and tables - so this beer garden is functional rain or shine. From here you can also access other pubs. The food is good enough, the menu ranging from your conventional nachos, chicken wings to wraps and salads, and they have a few craft beers along with the more conventional ones on offer, which is nice. Can't complain about the doormen or staff, they all seem to be polite and even amicable, bringing more napkins to the table and going over frequently to check if we needed anything else, even on busy days. read more

I made a booking on behalf of my company for 29 June 2019 (Dublin Pride Parade day) 10.30am and ordered (plus paid for in advance) sandwich platters to be served 10.30am and hot platters to be served at midday. The Living Room was closed when we arrived and wasn't due to open before 11am, though the 10.30am booking had been confirmed. When we were finally let in the staff had no clue about our booking. The kitchen didn't open before 12pm (despite the manager telling me on the phone that the kitchen was open from 10am) so our sandwiches & platters only came around 12.30pm - and there were no vegetarian options which we'd specifically asked for in the booking as well as on the day. To top up the bad experience one of the bartenders referred to our group as 'the gay c*nts' when taking my colleague's drink order. Definitely not doing or recommending business with The Living Room again. read more

To be honest it's not really my kind of place as I really don't like sports bars with so many screens distracting everyone. That said when Brazil were playing in the World Cup this was the place for me !! They have the biggest screen I've ever seen in a pub The beer garden is pretty good and when there is any sporting event on the place is buzzing. For big events they do a BBQ which is pretty good. The seem to cover pretty much any sporting event that is on from football to the super bowl so if there is something you want to see it's probably a safe bet. The place kind of turns into a nightclub as it gets later and I think they may even charge to get in - I usually run once what ever sports I'm watching are over so I'm not sure but they do have a dance floor if that's your kinda thing The prices are ok, they have pitchers starting for 12 euros. The staff are very quick to clear your glasses even when you're not quite finished and can be a bit rude. So if it's sports your after this might be the spot for you but you can tell I'm not sold on it ! read more

This is a great option to come to for sports! I actually came here over the summer to watch the women's World Cup final and wow was it busy! They actually had a huge big screen outside which was a really great option for us. I took a little bit to get drinks which can be expected during a busy event. At this particular event standing space is even a little bit limited so it is definitely worth it to get here early if you plan on watching a big match. Prices are pretty standard for regular drinks and I did not get to venture into the cocktail realm but noted that they had a good selection. Overall it was a cool bar and I'll definitely be back! read more

Throw in nice food for a decent price and staff with a sense of humor and you're on to a winner. I always enjoy going here, even though it's not my main hang out. After the last game has ended, they turn up the music and the atmosphere changes to somewhere halfway between a pub and a club. It has the good things of a nightclub(open late, pretty girls) but not the normal nightclub bullshit like asshole doormen, insanely expensive drinks or a dresscode. It's safely on the side of pub because I HATE nightclubs yet always enjoy myself there late in the evening/early morning. read more

This is my go-to bar. I discovered it about a year ago when a mate invited me to a birthday party there! What a night... I've been coming there every since and I love it. The smoking area is great if you want to meet people, there is a dance floor for all of you who like to dance and a stage for the really brave. I can't really describe it. It's a special feel. There also show case all major sporting events I went there to watch most of the EHF games and I know they are doing some cool stuff for superbowl as well. WARNING!!!! If you do decided to dance on stage (as a woman anyway) be prepared to fight of men with everything you've got. I was tricked into going up there once (promised free drinks all night by my friend for one dance with her on stage). I ran screaming all though she loved the attention! I am not into 3 or 5 men rubbing them selves against me. If you like that sort of thing (which a lot of the girls in there do) then go. Came here for the end of the semester night out and it was a ton of fun. Live music, funny bartenders (I asked for vodka and whatever is cheapest and he thought that was hilarious--ended up being Coke and it was 4 euro), nice outside area....One of the other bartenders just gave me soda water later when I asked for vodka/soda water and then they added the vodka for free which was FANTASTIC haha. The lines for the bathroom were pretty long (and the staff had to wait in them too AFTER waiting a long time to go) but they were pretty clean. Good for sports but the staff are incredibly rude! We were literally being pushed out of the way by staff who were taking empties from our table with scowls on their faces. This was before it even got busy or loud so they could have just said "excuse me". We had a tab open and I ordered a drink. Another person who was also in our group arrived after I had ordered and when he told the barman he was also on the tab the look that the barman shot us was one of disgust. Totally unnecessary. When it gets busier they charge 6 euros at the door in exchange for a drink token and you get plastic cups instead of glasses. The stars are just for the sports part. The rest of it is just meh. I should have paid attention to the small cloud of flies buzzing around the table, apparently waving their little antenna and saying "only order from the drinks menu!" My hamburger was a sloppy pile of over-seasoned meat between two very very soggy halves of a hamburger bun. I gave up after a few bites. Love this place! It was literally right beside my hotel, so I wound up here twice. The first night was after I had already been out for hours drinking, so some of the memories are a bit "grey", but it was fun. They played pretty good music, had nicely priced drinks, and something for everyone. I did, however, feel like this bar had a very Eastern European vibe to it. Most everyone I met there the first night was from Eastern Europe...including the bartenders. Everyone was super nice, however, and I was able to snack on some "Slovakia" chips (bacon flavored YUM) while I sipped my beer(s). We stayed until closing of course, and the bartender was nice enough to reward me with a TO-GO cup for my beer. If you read my reviews, you know this is a BIG deal to me...even though it is not legal in some establishments. The second night I was there was the NEXT night of course while looking for a place to show the Norway vs. Denmark soccer game. The place was so much fun since Ireland was playing at the same time. Finding a seat was never a problem at this place. Received free beer from the Pilsner Urquell promoters...SCORE. Overall, alot of fun. My only complaint was that when I first arrived in Dublin and wanted to take a nice nap in my hotel room, I couldn't because of this LOUD-ASS music coming from a bar down below. I was so mad. However I got dragged along to watch the Ireland match here on Friday and I was pleasantly surprised. I hadn't been here in a few years and it was much different than I remembered. There was a huge crowd for the match and the beer garden was buzzing and had a giant screen to watch the match. I went to The Living Room on July 2018 with friends and it was a fantastic experience. It is located at Dublin 1. The place is big and there are different bars inside with a good area full of tables and a large screen where it`s possible to watch football games. The service is fine, the staff are qualified and the drinks are excellent. It`s possible to order food and drinks from different bars and stay anywhere you want to, because the place is big, just make sure it won`t rain. It`s a great bar to meet young people from different countries and socialise, but it`s better to go with friends. read more

The Living Room is an AMAZING place!! And I can say this as a return client, time an time again. The seating allows you to sit in small groups or large and theres always something on to keep you entertained. During the day it's the students of DIT Cathal Brugha Street's local so by the time 8 or 9 rolls around the ones who are worst for wear either roll on home or move on to somewhere more to their taste. Like Sport???? This place is incredible!! With two pull down projector screens and something like 6 28" screens the bar can show ALL of the Champions League matches on any given night, not to mention every other sport there is! The music is goodalthough not great, the jukebox is pretty much left on random a lot of the time which can be very interesting! There's a fantastic sound system in place for bands quizzes or in general any other form of banter your into.........karaoke anybody? The staff are up for a laugh and you can enjoy yourself as much as you like! The free platters are incredible, for class nights out we pop in on the way out of college, tell them there'll be X amount of us and we'll be here at whatever time, half hour after we tell them we've arrived, BOOM we're in finger food heaven! And I haven't even commented on the bar yet! Decent priced pint and pitcher options available as well as crazy amounts of imported stuff. They also make a DAMN tasty hot chocolate!! read more

I was excited to go here since they advertise that they show NFL games. I was not impressed at all. We got there and didnt receive service and ignored by staff so we had to go to the bar. We checked with the bar servers if they can show the denver bronco vs la chargers game and the guy said he would check. It was obvious that the crowd there weren't really there to watch America football games. Anyways, the place has a ton of TVs and the showed football but would just show certain games even though they advertise that they were showing the game we wanted. We asked the staff if we could change ONE tv ans they would not do it. Even though we had bought drinks and would have bought more drinks and food, we ended up leaving so we could watch our game. I have only been here once but I had an amazing time when I went here, maybe because I was drunk but I also think the setting of the place is amazing for a nightclub. The reason why I could not give it a 5 is because of the limits of the settings and the fact that they use it also as a pub kind of place, where I do believe there are better and nicer pubs for sports than the living room and they do not have the space to have several kinds of music playing depending on which floor you are on. But despite the limitations of the place it is a fun place to be on a Friday or Saturday night. I love the raised dance floor and I love the fact that there is a separate space for the smokers to go to, so the rest of us can be without the smoke for the evening. The music is what you can expect for a night club a mix of pop and rap/hip hop but always what is most popular on the radio so you can sing along to your favorite song of the week. I would have loved a bigger variety of music but if you like to dance the night away then it is not a bad idea to go here. read more

Gastropub? Oh dear, please don't fall for that. It makes regular pub food taste like the finest cuisine in town. Granted I was having a bad few days, but all I needed is a little bit of a late lunch. Intrigued by the "gastropub" label and happy that it was next door to our hotel, we wandered in. It was dark and sort of a combination of sports bar and tech disco, with bad 80s music playing too loudly. Desperate, I found a back room with comfy sofa-like bench seating, though it was also very loud for 3pm on a Sunday afternoon. We checked out the menu. Nothing but greasy fried bar food. The beef lasagna looked a little edible so I ordered that - and they had my favorite beer, Hoegaarden, on tap, so I was hopeful. The fiancé brings back the bucket of beer. Not a pint, a bucket. And it was delicious, so I gave him a kiss. Then the lasagna came out. It was a plate of Hamburger Helper, really. Overcooked hamburger meet with onions and a lot of orangey cheese like substance, with floating pasta like substance that had clearly been cooked twice as long as called for. Kinda like when you have a bowl of cereal and you forget about it for 20 minutes, then return to find something that doesn't resemble food. To top it off, there was nothing tomato-like in the lasagna. I asked the fiancé if his burger was good. In short, it wasn't, but I'll let him describe it to you. The fiancé offered to take me elsewhere. We noted that the Eastern Europeans at the next table left more than half their meals untouched. The waitress dared not speak to us or ask us how the meal was, and I can only assume that here in Dublin, a virtually untouched meal doesn't elicit queries from the staff, let alone an offer of a replacement meal. I have gone there a few times with mates to watch matches whether it's football, gaa or rugby and also for other sporting events like the masters, the super bowl and anything to do with wrestling. The drink deals here are very reasonable. The only bad thing is the tables to the left as you go in are a bit small but other than that, I would highly recommend this place for anyone who wants a good time. This is the WORST BAR I have ever been to in my entire life! They are trying to pose as a sports bar and club. On a low key non sports night we went here and they were playing hardcore dance pop music with lights and dj going. No one else was dancing because it was only 10:30, so we tried to get it going and were told two times to "calm down." My friend asked the manager what the problem was and he said it was fine to dance we just needed to dance like everyone else. Everyone else was swaying back and forth to the music in the lamest way possible, like my grandma dances harder then these people were. This location advertises with hostels in the area to attract young people but when they actually get some looking for a good time they are not prepared and will shut you down immediately. I've only been to The Living Room once, and it was a really good time. They have a dance floor that was pretty full of people, as well as a raised area (stage sort of) that people could get up on and dance which made it cool. The lights are really great and add a lot of atmosphere and color to the place. The bar is pretty quick about getting drinks to you even when it's full which I find to often times be the difference in an average night out to a great night out. The less time you spend standing at the bar waiting, the more time there is for fun. I've also been told they show a lot of sports here and they have pool tables too. All in all, I was really impressed with the place and was happy to try it out. read more

This is a great spot to watch a match. They have a projector that they use to show matches on the side of a building in the courtyard outside, it's pretty amazing. It's one of the only proper sports bars in Dublin. On nice days they take out the windows and it's like a big open air pub. Added bonus - you can get here from the smoking area in Fibbers so you can bounce between the two and get the best of both worlds. read more

I honestly loved this place, but I'm American and this is basically what you would expect from a typical sports bar in America. Way to many T.V's, sensory overload with to many sports happening God knows where, great 90+ music thumping, chatty staff that seem to dig their jobs. Had the wings they were not great but very good. It's a sports bar, you go there to uncork the grey cells, and not have to think. Talk about why whatever millionaire athlete on the screen is an idiot...stupid fun.
