I was staying at the Conrad and had a very late lunch here on a day that was raining on and off with periods of bright sun and I didn't feel like walking out. Initially, I sat outside but most of the tables had not been cleared and after about 5 minutes and no server appeared, I found a table indoors that was near a window. It's essentially a pub and the interior is quite dark and uninspiring actually. Still, it took a few more minutes before a server asked for my order. I decided on fish and chips (it's safe and predictable) and a raspberry beer. I actually didn't realize the beer would come in a can and I really wanted something on tap but it was good anyway. The fish and chips arrived a few minutes later and it was predictably delicious. I thought the portion was quite large. Fries (or chips) were especially tasty and crispy the way I like it. The place never got really busy, the tables outside didn't get cleared until I was about to leave and I watched a couple of people sit nearby and then get up to fetch a server when they realized no one was coming. So yes, service here can be really slow. Overall, tho, my meal was great and because it was mid-afternoon, ambiance was relaxed and relatively quiet. read more

I'm really a fan despite being biased to not like it before I ever entered the place. It is on the "-1Floor" of the Conrad Hotel and seems to be closely associated with the Conrad brand (the credit card slip I signed showed "Conrad" across the top). However, you would never know it. I associate Conrad with high-brow luxury and this place is everything that the Conrad is not in a very good way. Whenever I am in a Conrad, I feel like if I am in anything less than a sport coat in a public area I am under dressed and being watched by their security personnel who are trying to determine if I am a homeless guy that managed to breach their flank and wander in. Walking into Alfie's, I think if I had been in a sport coat they would have thrown me out which makes this place great! After about 5pm, the first thing you really notice upon walking in is the noise coming from within. It is on the same level as the hotel gym so if you take the elevator down, you walk off and hear a lot of vocal noise coming from the back door leading into Alfie's. It is loud but in a friendly, social way and it really draws you in because it is clearly the sound of a lot of people having a really good time. I had the opportunity to be here on a few different weeknights and they are all the same and it struck me that most of the people in the place were not from the hotel. They seemed to be from the area businesses enjoying themselves after a long day. The other thing you notice upon entering is the incredible 2-sided bar that lies in the center. Side 1 has a long row of beer taps and they have a lot of serious, specialty beers. I'm not a huge beer guy so I have no idea what 3/4 of them were but the bar staff took great pride in directing me towards their recommendations. They also always have a "hand-pulled cask" beer that changes all the time. Really interesting because it is non-carbonated, lower alcohol and room temperature the way that old style beer used to be served in the Kingdom. Gave me a real appreciation for what people in 1600 had to drink. The bar staff are also very happy to allow you some samples if you have a hard time making a decision. Side 2 features whiskies. Many whiskies. Enough said. There is decent background music, lots of group conversation, and I'm told sometimes live music but I did not get to witness that during my visits. The food is mostly pub stuff with a couple of steaks and salads as well. All of it is comforting and tasty but the liquid menu here is really the thing. There is a "Beer Can Chicken" on the menu that requires you to call ahead a couple of hours to have them start it for you which I found a little odd since this does not seem like a place that you think about calling ahead to come to. I did not see anyone having it so I'm guessing I am right and no one "plans ahead" to come here as a destination. They do seem to show up here though and stay until the wee hours. Because of my jet lag, I go to work out around midnight and have to walk by it to the gym. In doing so, it is still pumping out the social noise as if no one plans on ever going home. The thing I really like about this place is that it allows me to stay in a stuffy, luxury hotel but take an elevator down to decompress and act like a normal person where I can dress down, eat with my hands, and slouch in my chair if I feel like it all in the setting of a fun, social, and drink-driven atmosphere. How could anyone not give this place five stars. Wow. I stayed at the Conrad and accidentally went downstairs and stumbled upon this pub. Absolutely incredible. This place had so much character. It was a true local bar. You can come here and watch a sports game on the tv or play pool or play a board/card game. They had many people games at the tables. One group was playing "game of thrones" board game. I didn't eat food here but I did see a couple hamburgers at the table nearby and they were huge and delicious looking It was filled with lots of 20s and early 30 year olds. This place is awesome! They have a wide range of beers and they all taste delicious! You can tell that they put a lot of thought and time into the beers they brew. Solid stout and the IPAs are definitely worth giving a try. Didn't try the pale ales but I'm sure they'd be great as well. Good food options too. read more

One night my boyfriend took me out on a date. Yes, on a date. He is like that romantic and all :) So we were there, drinking a craft beer, having a laugh, and suddently he turned to me. 'You know what you should do? You should have your birthday party here!' He had one of these moments where you can see a lightbulb dancing over his head. 'Really?' I replied surprised. 1* For the event management: As soon as the idea was out I grabbed it and checked if it was sensible. The staff was super reactive. Birgitta answered all my questions in no time. Free to book a space. Finger food available for 10 people minimum. We can decorate the area with balloons and banners. We can also provide a cake to be stored in the fridge until we give them the green light to bring it with candles on. They also sing Happy Birthday to get the party singing :D 1* For the extra mile: One request I had was to get a photobooth to entertain my party. The reaction was positive, I only needed to give the measurements of the photoshoot for them to check if it would fit somewhere. And it did ! They did not even charge me for that, which was a weight off my shoulders really. 1* For the staff: I had arranged to bring the cake earlier in the afternoon. The staff was very nice and excited to have the party started. They brought the finger food at 9pm with plates and cuttelry - when the kitchen was closing. They were amicable, effective but discrete. They always came to me to coordonate what should be done. A girl staff brought the cake at 10.45pm after the photobooth was gone - as I planned. She sang Happy Birthday and hold the cake for me to blow the candle. Really sweet. In the end one guy staff said people seem to have enjoyed their time. The feedback was amazing ! 1* For the drinks: Guys chose to drink craft beer and loved it ! Girls chose other options and were enchanted ! 1* For the overall experience: I never imagined hosting my birthday party in a brewery bar. Me? Sophisticated and French as I am? I did and I loved it ! Great outdoor space which is perfect during the summer, inside there's also plenty of seating. They have the lunch service working great, you can be here order, eat and pay all within approx. 40-45mins allowing you best use of the lunch hour without going over time. They do a daily sandwich which offers great value and keeps you satisfied all afternoon. Food is nice, it's as nice as pub grub comes. I enjoy the atmosphere here and staff have always been polite and efficient. read more

Went here for dinner before a gig so my review is based on their food rather than there selection of craft beers etc. I got a Cobb salad and side of chips. Salad was delish and chips were chips. Bit pricey at €18.50! Place was a little cold but the atmosphere was good. Pool and table tennis available and I would like to come back with more people for a session. All in all I'm going with 3 stars as I felt it was a little pricey but perhaps I will review upwards in the future after sampling their beers, ales etc. read more

This pub is a bit hidden, as it's not on the mainroad. I really loved the decor, it's spacious, has a terrace, very friendly staff and lots of craftbeers and different brews on tap. Foodwise the menu has all the usual suspects, but a lack of healthy options apart from a superfood salad. It's quite cheap though -everything around a tenner. I ended up sharing a bowl of nacho's and skinny fries. Huge portions, and we were not able to finish. Probably wouldn't come back for the food, but definitely for a pint. read more

I've been here for lunch and dinner and have had similar experiences each time. The food is pretty tasty. I got a really juicy steak on ciabatta bread with chips for dinner. For lunch I have had a salad which was also good. Both dishes however are expensive for what you get. A burger at lunch costs around 14 euro. A Cobb salad the same. For these kind of prices you expect something special but it feels like something is missing. Service can also be hit and miss. Good atmosphere so if they can offer higher quality food for better value it would be a winner. Some improvements definitely needed. read more

Not the first place I'd expect a craft beer bar to pop up in. In fact I'd been to Alfie Byrnes a couple of years ago for a nice bar meal. But I think turning it into a craft beer bar is a wise move. People slag off craft beer, me included at the start. But then I became a convert. The revolution has been strong in Dublin. I myself have warmed to IPAs and pale ales in general. Here in Alfie Byrnes it has the selection of Against the Grain, but with good ventilation and spotless toilets. The same as The Black Sheep, but with free tables and chairs. No empty reserved tables here my friend. There's also a pool table and a ping pong table. In the summertime a BBQ is on the go, but I've not tried the food yet. A little off the beaten track in terms of Dublin bars, but worth a look in I think. I'm glad it's here and plan to become a regular. read more

I was so glad this was on the -1 floor of our hotel. It was nice to drink with fun bartenders. We got there too late to order off the menu so that shifted us over to the pizza menu. The vegetable pizza was amazing. I have never had a pizza that had cheese filled peppers. Bartenders were fun to talk with. Was a nice break from the "stuffy" atmosphere upstairs. read more

One of my favourite pubs in Dublin, right beside work, and always worth calling into! Another of Galway Bay's Dublin pubs, they're based right beneath the Conrad and across the road from the National Concert Hall, and as such have a crowd more suited to that sort of area. This isn't the pub you want to go to if you want music and crowds of people. As with all of the other Galway Bay bars, they have a huge selection of craft beers on tap and in bottle, but also have wines, whiskies (lots of whiskies), and other spirits. They also serve fantastic food, with a new menu being launched recently. The bar staff are fantastic, and very knowledgable, and very happy to let you sample beers and advise you on what you might like. As it's a quiet bar, it's a great place to have a meetup. Indeed, there is a regular board game night hosted here which will give you an idea of the noise levels. They also have a pool table and ping pong table if you fancy playing a few games. The staff was great and very attentive but the only downside was that the atmosphere, the music was too low and it was kinda empty for most of the night... I'd say at some point we were just ourselves and the staff in there... I'm sure is just because it's been recently opened and ppl don't know about it but it's still a great pub... I'll be definitely coming back soon to try some more beers and the beef burger!! P.S. - They have a pool table and a heated terrace with comfy seats (for those of you that smoke)!! read more

During my recent stay at the Conrad Dublin, imagine my surprise and delight when I pushed open the doors to Alfie Byrne's and was greeted by a row of gleaming taps delivering not Guinness, but local craft beer. Don't get me wrong, I love, love, love a well pulled pint of the black stuff. But the Irish craft beer scene is exploding and they are killing it with ridiculously good brews. I had low expectations of this place based solely on the fact that a) My experience at the lobby bar was sub-par and b) How could a pub in a hotel, even a top one like the Conrad, be all that good? While this is a sponsored pub, courtesy of Galway Bay brewery, the selection of both local and international micros is impressive and something I will explore in greater detail upon my next visit. Speaking of Galway Bay, the Full Sail and Goodbye Blue Monday IPAs are well worth a pint. The food dished out is upper level pub grub and pretty good, if pricey. If you're looking for an excellent selection of quality beers, look no further. However, if what you want is a more authentic Dublin pub experience, then you may want to look elsewhere. read more

Whilst it's a nice pub the way it looks, especially the outside on a lovely sommers day. But the prices are simply out of range. Yes, it's craft beer and cidre. But €7 for a pint of cidre? No thank you - you won't get my money again. OK, it's attached to the Conrad so maybe they think they can or have to have these prices but I don't agree. Having been to the other Galway Brew Pubs in Dublin the others definitely win over this. Was recently here with some friends for a nice pint of craft beer on one of our rare warm and sunny days. It was a saturday, and I was worried this place would be packed. But surprisingly, it was fairly empty! Their beer selection is AMAZING... I mean, the have the Founders Oatmeal Stout.... ON TAP! And they're really good about letting you try a taster of the craft beers if you're stuck between two. We got kind of hungry while there, so we got some nachos with the chili beef and a club sandwich on focaccia bread. Both were pretty good considering it was what I would have considered pub grub. The nachos were ALMOST what I'd expect from back home, but the closest I've found so far in dublin. Run out of things to talk about? No worries, there are board games galore here! We got into a pretty heated jenga competition while there, which of course made it all the more fun. They also have ping-pong tables and pool. The only two downsides about this place is (1) the kitchen closes way too early, especially on Sundays/bank holidays. They close at 7pm. Why would you close that early?! Also, this place was soooo empty that it kind of felt like we were the only people there in our corner. I get that some people may like that, but I felt like it kind of drained the atmosphere a bit. I just can't get over how empty this place was on a saturday evening, and I'm shocked that more people don't go here! read more

I can't believe we haven't been here until only recently! This place is great - lots of beers and LOADS of beers on tap to choose from. We ordered some snacks as well - the nachos are nice, as are the chicken wings. It was a huge and generous serving, and the nachos were piled high with good stuff. Came here one day before I attended spent an evening at the National Concert Hall right across the street. I had a salad with grilled pear and a nice glass of rosé. The meal was delicious and nice, although the salad could have been flavored a bit more (that might just be me; I'm a bit addicted to dressing). Beautiful and convenient location. I like Alfie Byrne's a lot. It's located beautifully in the centre of Dublin, and was a particularly perfect place to enjoy dinner and a drink before a concert at the National Concert Hall. I could literally see the NCH across the street whilst I enjoyed my meal. The food menu isn't large- the usual range of burgers and simple meals offered at bars. However, the quality is good, and portion size is decent. The real strength at Alfie's is the excellent beer selection- loads of craft options from Ireland and overseas. I enjoyed a few different beers (whose names I've forgotten, though I doubt it matters as I assume the selection changes regularly). The service was friendly and efficient, and we had plenty of time to enjoy our meal and beers before heading to the concert. Will definitely be back. read more

Good for beer... not great for food. Alfie's is a little hidden gem, well this location at least. They have such a great selection of micro brews (don't go here expecting to have a Heineken or Budweiser). But if you are like me and not that knowledgeable about what lager or pale ale you should drink, the bar tenders are more than happy to make suggestions. The best part is that they aren't snobby and judging you for asking "whats most like a coors light?". The bar is quite big and can easily handle large groups- there is also outdoor seating for those two days a year of sunshine in Dublin. The atmosphere and decor are spot on. One thing I didn't care for was the food. I have tried a few different options and haven't been that impressed. Come for the beer- not the food! read more

Awesome beer temple which is a place all the beer pilgrims should visit in Ireland. The inside contain a pool table, plenty of board games and a ping pong table. Plenty of toys for the thirsty traveler. They make good food which fits nicely with the brews they serve. Try out the Manwich or the double baked fries!!! Usually go here for lunch. The menu is pretty standard pub menu. It is, as the other reviews suggest, a lot more expensive than most place in the general area. €13.50 for a burger at lunch is pretty steep. The only saving grace to the prices is the excellent service- the waiters are so attentive. It is also a really nice place, and feels quite American. They have daily specials for €9.95 each- but don't be deceived by this, as it is literally just a sandwich with a few crisps on the side. So pretty steep for that I think. I have heard drinking here is also a bit ridiculous. But the service bumps this place up to 3 stars. read more

As an American and a beer lover, Ireland can actually be limited if you don't like Guinness or Carlsberg. This bar has a full selection of beer from serveral microbreweries in Ireland, specifically the Galway Bay Brewing Company. I had a tasting flight before ordering a pint. Our waitress was adorable and the food was quite good. I had the fish and chips there and they were excellent. It doesn't have the same dark corners of most Irish pubs but it was crowded with many locals drinking beer and playing board games. Don't let the location and the swanky hotel fool you, the bar is authentic. read more

This is one of my favorite places to let out some steam after work. It looks awesome while still having an old Bar feel. I usually sit at the counter and end up chatting with the staff or other regulars. Has that sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name kind of feel. I've tried their chilli dog once and it was really good, but mostly I go there for their great selection of craft beers and whiskey. And if you can't decide what to have, let the staff decide for you! I'm sure they won't disappoint. It's right in front of the National Concert Hall, so it's worth a stop if you're around. read more

And yes, the stew was good but it didn't come out on a bowl large enough to feed an entire family. So when my bill came to 30 euros, I decided it was a bit pricey and to drop them a star. read more

Alfie Byrne's is the fifth Galway Bay Brewery pub in Dublin. All the GBB pubs have a similar theme: slick but grungy, cosy, and most importantly, a huge selection of delicious craft beers, including four or five of their own brew. What sets Alfie's apart from its sister pubs is that they chose to house it in a hotel, and no ordinary hotel but the Conrad Hilton, no less. As such, it's fairly off the beaten track, and a little more upmarket than the other bars. Because of the area it can be a teeming with suits on business lunches during the day which stifles the atmosphere somewhat but at night the craic is great, especially at the weekends. There's a ping pong table (and the staff will let you play beer pong, if you're cheeky enough to ask), a pool table and a couple of great, cosy snug-like areas. The chefs are the same as the Hilton kitchen so the food is great, if a little more expensive than the other GBB bars, and they do really good party platters if you book ahead. The chicken wings are the best thing ever--absolutely stingingly spicy and hot. The music is a mix old classic stuff and alt-electronic, but it's not too loud so it's easy to have a chat. The staff are very sound, will let you taste what you want and are good for a recommendation or a natter, and the GBB beers are no more expensive than a regular pint. Try the award winning Foam and Fury in particular--it's strong as hell but it's delicious. Some of the other prices are a little outlandish, they've recently changed the wine list and I'm hoping it's to bring down the previously extortionate prices. It can be a little cold in here sometimes, particularly on a couple of tables at the back of the bar, and there doesn't seem to be any way of heating the place up. It can also feel very big and empty when it's an off-peak time, but the décor is very cool and it's a great place. It's particularly great in the summer when they get a DJ and a BBQ set up on the porch and you can sit outside in the plaza with a beer, some friends and some food until all that's left is candlelight. read more

Very nice mix of locals and visitors. Across from the theater. We stopped in for a pound of wings and a pint as well as the soup of the day. All excellent! Server was very attentive. After mentioning that I follow a gluten free diet he brought roared gluten free bread for my soup and to allow me to savor that fantastic Irish butter. A jewel of a place especially considering it is part of the Conrad Hilton. Hotel restaurants don't always measure up. The tale of this place are the number of locals.
