    Red ale!
    Erin M.

This was our last meal in Ireland and we were visiting the bustling city of Dublin. Our free time was limited for lunch so we scurried to find the closest Pub which happened to be the best final meal ever! It was a local Brewery! It was the Porterhouse Brewery and they had their own beers which included a fabulous red Scotch ale. Those beers are hard to find in America and I enjoyed all of the great tasting red ales of Ireland. Of course we had to end our final meal with the Classic Fish and Chips and thank God it was more fish than batter. And yes, also had to conclude the final meal with the famous Irish fish chowder. It was the best ending to a fabulous vacation.

Spent 3 nights here. Food is okay. Croquettes are okay, portion small for price. Burger similarly okay. On par with surrounding restaurants. The chowder was excellent. Inexpensive, rich, meaty with many small morsels of seafood in every bite. I'd come back for the chowder. House draughts okay. Celebration being the most flavorful, malty, complex. The oyster and chocolate truffel were both forgettable. Bottles are where it's at. Try the Boyne Imperial Stout and Ulster Oatmeal Stout on bottle. You won't regret it.

Have been a regular here since I was first exiled to Ireland. The beers are amazing. They have craft beer, imports, locals in all colors & tastes. Bottles & on tap. The place gets packed on the weekends & after work. Try to get in early to get a table. Now on to the food. They have changed the menu every year. For the love of sanity - stop. Just get some good decent pub grub & stick with it. The Porterhouse Pie was my favorite but no longer available. People come here for beer & comfort food. Let's get it together & keep cooking some old fashioned favorites.

A fresh craft brewery in the middle of Dublin City Center, what's there not to like? Besides their own craft beers, they have a great guest draft list including several from other Irish and Great Brittain breweries. The bar keeps are also friendly and patient. They have half pints as well as a 3 taster paddle. The namesake Porter and Stouts are all good, and they have a rotating Real Ale from Cask which is definitely worth a try. I didn't have a chance to try the food, but definitely a good place to visit for some different things to try.

I needed a place to spend a few hours while watching some Sunday English Premier games, stay out of the mist, and warmup with some drinks. Found this place and overall enjoyed it. Good beers, tried the lamb shoulder meat served on a flatbread which was simple and unique. The servers at the bar were courteous and very nice. Good place overall for a pub place in a very busy place.

Porterhouse is a grand spot, and is perfect for those type of in-between nights, when you're not sure if you want to go to the pub for a few pints, or if you want to go out on the razzle properly. The Porterhouse makes for a nice compromise between these two conflicting desires. It's a pub in that you can sit down at the table and have a few scoops, but there is also enough floor-space so that, when the DJ comes on at 9 or 10 and you have a few on you, you can get up and have a bit of hooley if the notion takes you. I was originally not too far gone on Porterhouse's drinks the first time I went, but they do have a rather pleasant, strong stout called 'The Wrastler' (nice allusion to Flann O'Brien there as well), and they have a nice strawberry beer called 'Fruili' or something that's nice if a little sweet (if you like Kopparberg, you'd probably like it). You'd want to watch yourself with the spicy chicken wings, though; I had one from a plate that a friend of mine ordered and scalded the mouth off me, and the sauce stayed on my lips, burning away, so that I had guzzle pints and pints in order to soothe them (possibly a sneaky sales ploy on their part.) Always a safe bet, even on weeknights, as I have never seen the place empty, so you couldn't go too far wrong in stopping by of a Tuesday evening

I was invited to the Porterhouse Central for lunch on a Tuesday. I am never a big fan of pub food, the quality and quantity always deserve the minimum stars. To my view. But, this time, I must say that I was positively surprised ! 1* For the pub : It wasn't exactly lunch time but closer to 3pm.

What a nice selection of craft beers :-))

The choice of craft beers and beers from around the world makes this a great place to visit in Dublin. I had no idea this place existed and was invited for a drink by a colleague and decided to check it out and, what a find it is. I can totally get into this place just for a pint or few of good craft beers, home brews and brews from all over the shop. Now when do I intend to come back here ? Hopefully soon :-))

Normally I'm not a fan of microbreweries, preferring to stick to my everyday order, but the Porterhouse on Nassau Street was a pleasant surprise. I ordered their home-brewed stout and found it to be smokey and creamy at the same time. I was impressed by their vast selection of beers. There must be close to a hundred brews to choose from. The interior of the Nassau Street Porterhouse is much more spacious than the one located on Parliament Street. The staff were more than competent too. I saw one barman make 4 cocktails in one go. It was like a scene from the movie Cocktail. The menu is just as tasty as the beer. It offers several different types of food, from pub grub to gourmet pizzas. I ordered two pizzas to share with two friends and they were delicious. Despite the fact that the waitress forgot to make one pizza into a calzone, I was pleased. Especially when I saw the bill which came to 23 Euro.

The home brews are alright, and I'd advise starting out the night with a sample tray to find your flavor. Bring a friend though, or it could be a very short night. Some of the food is great aswell, nice big chunky saucy portions. Perfect for both lining and soakage. A major plus is that this is one of the few places that does a proper hot whiskey. Not to put too fine a point on it, but I get the bus from across the road all year round. A situation that forces a certain appreciation for proper hot whiskeys.

Sure The Porterhouse might have a "godly" selection of beer, but someone needs to give their staff a crash-course on customer service. It's unfortunate because the last time I was here there was a really nice guy serving the brewskies, today however, there was a general aura of pissed-off-ness and sass among the staff and it's kind of skewed my subsequent impression of the place. On a positive note though, the wine glasses are so big that they could be called goblets! And at €5.80, they certainly curbed my complaints about the place for a while..

Porterhouse is for me the place where I can get the better beers, be it in Dublin or outside of the capital. If you are a fan of 'the black stuff', try their own beer, Porter; Guinness isn't available here. The place itself has a nice atmosphere, and its location is ideal: between Grafton street and Nassau street; perfect.

This place to me, will always be Judge Roy Beans. I do like it here, but not as much as I do the other Porterhouse's. I just feel like it's the same as it always was - Judge Roy Beans. Bar the different menu, cocktails and weird beers, it's just the same place really! It kind of makes me feel like the porterhouse crew weren't bothered/too scabby to do it up and put their own stamp on it! I kind of always avoid going here unless I have to...There's nothing I hate about it...just nothing I particularly like either.

Tucked down Dame Court just off Dame Street, The Stag's Head is one of those rare pubs that feels genuinely historic rather than designed to look old. The building dates to the late 1800s, and the interior retains the ornate features of a classic Victorian "gin palace"--rich carved wood, stained glass, brass rails, and a warm, glowing bar that feels wonderfully preserved. We stopped in around 4:30 pm, which turned out to be a perfect time to visit. There were other patrons enjoying drinks and food, but the atmosphere was calm and relaxed rather than loud or rowdy. It felt like the kind of place where locals drop in for a quiet pint on their way home from work before the evening crowd arrives. The staff were excellent--friendly, welcoming, and attentive without being intrusive. The food was very good (we failed to take photos because we were too busy enjoying it). As a vegetarian, I was thrilled to see the Impossible burger front and center on their menu; it was deliciously prepared with guacamole on a brioche bun, and not an afterthought on the menu. My companions both chose the Irish Beef Burger, and said it was excellent. One thing to know: this is a traditional Victorian pub, so cocktails aren't really part of the program. Expect beer, wine, or spirits rather than mixed drinks. In a place like this, that actually feels exactly right. Other pubs do serve mixed drinks. Between the history, the ambience, the quality of the food, and the wonderful staff, The Stag's Head is the kind of place that makes you feel like you've experienced a real piece of Dublin.
