I couldn't leave Ireland without trying a traditional Irish Stew and this place was suggested by the pub down the way. They were out of take away containers so we opted to sit inside. The Victorian styled interior has a dim, close-knit layout and plenty of period pieces to appreciate. Though it could have used a touch more salt, the stew was hearty, the mashed potatoes on top were creamy, and the lamb melted like butter.

So this place is a really good time. 3 floors of fun. I had one of my best night in Dublin at this pub. We went here a couple times. The drinks were good. They pour a good Guinness. Good beer selection. Good gin selection. Good pub food. But when live music is playing...it's a party! We had the pleasure of seeing Fin Furrey play and the whole place was singing and dancing. It was so much fun!! I can't wait to go back here. Oh and the bartenders are great. But when it's really busy, it's hard to tell cause the staff is so busy at work. Great crowd too!

Came out after an afternoon of learning to Irish dance and this was the perfect Pub. We got the Plater for Two - everything on our try was delicious. Good service, it was packed and they checked on us often. Live band, multiple stories, with different vibes and decor. Definitely recommend, I think we got a drink from each bartender!

Was just looking for some food to warm my stomach on a chilling Sunday night and walked into a complete and pleasant surprise of 100% traditional Irish pub experience. Skillful fiddler and guitarist playing live Irish country music. All the Gaelic football jersey and mementos on the wall. Cellars packed with Irish whiskies. Lively vibe. Had a lovely pint of freshly poured Guinness (of course) and a bowl of beef and Guinness stew (of course). The stew was nicely done. The broth was neither too thin or too thick and was packed with spicy aroma all around, all the veggies were braised to soft texture, and the beef packed beefy savory taste and bouncy texture of lean Irish beef. Very satisifed.

What an amazing, authentic Irish pub with excellent food, ambiance, friendly service and live music. The staff is very welcoming and guaranteed a memorable time. It's a must if you're visiting Dublin

Came in here because they said that the Shepards pie was delicious here so I had to come and try it. Not only was it delicious but the Guinness and baby Guinness shots were delicious as well. Also got to make some really cool friends. Thanks Debbie and Zoey

The wait service was top rate, Mark was an excellent bartender as well. Lots of fun and great memories werr made here today with friends. The food!!! I had the fish & chips, with perfection on the batter and nice & flaky. The stew received raves from 2 in our party and that shepperds pie was dense, hearty and chock full of potatoe goodness. The atmosphere was the best of everything you would expect from an Irish Pub. Exactly what we were looking for. The staircase was really interesting as well.

We went here and sat outside, because both floors inside were packed due to a match that was on TV. Still, service was fast and friendly. This is an extremely popular spot with traditional Irish dishes and drink, worth the stop. The Bangers and Mash were excellent! The gravy was very flavorful, and the mushy peas (don't let that scare you) were also delicious. The Fish and Chips, however, were just ok. The "chips" were more American fries, served thin and a little too crispy for our taste. The coating on the fish was also a little too crispy for our taste.

Great atmosphere and fun to sit out side on a sunny day in Dublin. And the Guinness is good.

The authentic Victorian setting, the Victorian mahogany fittings, the mosaic marble tiled floors and granite tabletops, the mahogany bar, capped with red Connemara marble, follows the classic Victorian architectural pattern. The staff are helpful, friendly and patient since their accent is hard to understand sometime. My 1st beer and 1st Irish food, all I can say is what a meal, just simple delish. Being here is just a wondrous experience, the place is cosy, warm and the friendly of the people. So glad I picked this place as my first of Dublin.

Tucked down Dame Court just off Dame Street, The Stag's Head is one of those rare pubs that feels genuinely historic rather than designed to look old. The building dates to the late 1800s, and the interior retains the ornate features of a classic Victorian "gin palace"--rich carved wood, stained glass, brass rails, and a warm, glowing bar that feels wonderfully preserved. We stopped in around 4:30 pm, which turned out to be a perfect time to visit. There were other patrons enjoying drinks and food, but the atmosphere was calm and relaxed rather than loud or rowdy. It felt like the kind of place where locals drop in for a quiet pint on their way home from work before the evening crowd arrives. The staff were excellent--friendly, welcoming, and attentive without being intrusive. The food was very good (we failed to take photos because we were too busy enjoying it). As a vegetarian, I was thrilled to see the Impossible burger front and center on their menu; it was deliciously prepared with guacamole on a brioche bun, and not an afterthought on the menu. My companions both chose the Irish Beef Burger, and said it was excellent. One thing to know: this is a traditional Victorian pub, so cocktails aren't really part of the program. Expect beer, wine, or spirits rather than mixed drinks. In a place like this, that actually feels exactly right. Other pubs do serve mixed drinks. Between the history, the ambience, the quality of the food, and the wonderful staff, The Stag's Head is the kind of place that makes you feel like you've experienced a real piece of Dublin.

From the…read moreoutside, it plants itself confidently among Dublin's historic streets with a façade that promises hearty fare and good pints; inside, the space is warm and inviting with dark wood, exposed brick, beautiful murals, and comfortable seating that encourages lingering. My party of six walked in on a Wednesday night at around 7:30pm; at that time, the restaurant was about half-full, but filled up over the course of our meal. The menu has plenty of options ranging from healthy salads to traditional Irish dishes to your standard hearty pub fare. Drinks are also fairly priced here, and they have a good range of ales and lagers on tap (and of course, the classic Guinness). I opted for their Rustic Dublin Coddle (€20.50), which is a sizeable bowl of warming soup with two chargrilled, tender pork sausages, smoky bacon, soft potatoes, and onion, served with toasted sourdough bread. I appreciated the clean taste of the soup (made with an herbed chicken broth), which cut the rich fattiness of the sausage and bacon. I do wish the soup had been served with a more traditional Irish brown bread, but the sourdough was tasty nonetheless. Another great dish was the Waterloo Prime Irish Beef Burger (€19), which is a large patty of juicy, prime Irish beef served atop a toasted bun, with red onions, baby gem lettuce, pickled gherkins, and a tangy smoked Dublin cheddar. Some friends ordered the Superfood Salad (€15), which has a plethora of fresh vegetables and grains, but they noted it was quite bland, even with the French dressing. Yes, it's a bit on the pricey side for a pub, but I find Waterlooo Bar unique in that the atmosphere feels classic but lively: you get that laid-back Dublin pub energy with a hint of sophistication that makes it great for both casual meals and nights out. The food is solid if not stellar, the vibe is fun, and prices are reasonable for the area; a satisfying pick for an Irish pub dinner.

It took a little maneuvering to get through the crowd since everyone was loud and having a great time, but once we made it upstairs to the lounge area, it was much quieter and we were seated immediately. Hubby ordered the Irish Lamb Stew and I got the Sheehans Stout House Beef Pie. Our food came out surprisingly quick. I'm usually not a fan of lamb because it can taste too gamey for me, but I had to try his stew and it was actually really tasty -- still had that lamb flavor, but not overpowering at all. My Stout House Beef Pie was absolutely delicious and full of flavor. We also shared a side of onion rings and they were crispy to perfection. By the end we were stuffed, but still decided to split the bread pudding for dessert and wow... chef's kiss. Definitely worth saving room for!

Menu has a good selection of Irish dishes from seafood chowder up to lamb stew and pies. We ordered the potato soup, seafood chowder, 'banjo' burger with onion rings. The soups arrived first and the seafood chowder was loaded with huge pieces of fish, potatoes (not many) with a creamy rich base. Flavor was incredible and in itself a full meal. Served in a large crock style bowl. The potato soup was minus any whole potatoes. It was a rich creamy base with plenty of flavor and very hearty. The burger was really a double cheeseburger with plenty of cheese, grilled onions, what appeared to be a mayonnaise based sauce on a soft hamburger roll. Really tall enough that it was tough getting your mouth around it. Very well seasoned burgers and the onions were a nice touch. The onion rings were huge and had a very light batter on them. They served in a metal bowl to keep them hot. For dessert the apple crumble was ordered which was served in a large dish with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. This could have been warmer but still was good.. The 5 star rating is for the chowder as it outshone the rest of the meal although the burger was definitely a close second. Definitely will return to try other dishes when we come back to the city.
