Gord and I had a late lunch at Harkins Bar & Bistro on Tuesday. He had a ham and cheese toastie and veggie soup. and I had wings with Buffalo sauce. All were good.

Nice place for lunch near the Guinness factory. Ground floor is a pub that doesn't serve food - instructed to go upstairs. Very cute little dining area. Servers are great and food comes out fast from the floor above. I had a grilled cheese and ham with tomato. So very good. Fries are DELISH! If you know me you know I love a good fry. Carrot soup was the special and it was very good. Never heard of it before. Give it a try if they have it.

Located between the Kilmainham Gaol and the Guinness Storehouse, great for lunch! We couldn't really tell if it was a local place or a tourist trap, but it only has 6 tables or so upstairs in their restaurant area, and since we were lucky enough to grab a seat, we stayed and enjoyed ourselves some absolutely delicious fried food. This was our first fish and chips of the trip and it was fantastic!! The garlic mayo (better known as "aioli" in the states) is a must have with french fries. We did not particularly like the "cheese sauce" so thankfully it was on the side and we got to try it first before ordering another meal with cheese sauce all over it.  When we first walked into Harkins we went through the downstairs entrance which is basic bar/pub. The waitress kindly told us to head up to the second floor for food. Their signature color is lavender, and on the TV was 90s music and random trivia. If we had saved room for dessert, we probably would have gotten a shake or ice cream too.

Cheers! Great place for a bite and pint.

Our first day in Dublin was wet and cold. We wandered by the Guinness Storehouse and were directed to Harkin's. Happily they had a table for us. Beef and Guinness stew seemed the perfect choice and it was. Hot, thick, rich gravy with chunks of beef, carrots, onions and potatoes. Absolutely excellent. Since that day I've had stew at different pubs in Dublin, Waterford, and Killarney. All were good, but so far, Harkin's is the best.

My friends and I had just finished the Guinness tour, which was kind of lame, if I'm being honest. It was our first full day in Dublin and we really wanted to get off the tourist path and find a legit local place. Luckily Yelp came to the rescue and we found Harkins Pup just down the street. The place was full of locals and their families out for a Sunday pint. We quickly befriended Allen at the bar and before we knew it he was buying us a round. My husband at one point was enveloped into a passionate conversation about rugby, football, and California with a new group of friends. Robert behind the bar was super friendly and indulged my friend, Emma, and I taking photos behind the bar. We quickly figured out that everybody has lived in that neighborhood for generations and are related to each other in one form or another. We stopped in for a pint, but 4 hours later we left quite drunk with with many new friends. The hospitality at Harkins can't be beat and I highly recommend if you want an authentic local experience.

    Chicken Tenders

This was one of my favorite places to eat on my trip to Dublin. The chicken tenders were the best I ever had. So fresh and juicy! Others got the spicy burger and bacon burger. So amazing. Stop here!! Worth it.

To be honest this review is long overdue. I've never stopped thinking about this bar. My friend and I were going to Guinness that day and were hungry around lunch time. Yelp came to rescue and we found this awesome place. We couldn't find parking on the street, so they let us park in front of the bar. The person behind the bar( I think his name was Robert) was so kind to us. We had lunch there and few drinks. We hung out with locals, kind of 'off the beaten path' feeling. Food was great, and drinks were awesome. When I go back to Ireland, I will definitely go back to this place.

Proper pint here. Forget that Guinness Sh**e House next door. Save your €50 and have someone else pull a pint for you.

I was sore I had to pay €50 at the Store House AND pull my own pint, so I came here. I could give a feck about the tour and I just wanted a decent pint. Well, I couldn't have been a more fortunate fella stumbling into a more friendly bunch! Better than any of that shite next door, the ol fella told me that his pub was older than the shite dump next door and had been serving Guinness far longer. Then he asked me if I liked stew, and the next thing I had a bowl of top notch, piping hot stew in front of me. Plenty of craic, and let's be honest, what's a good pint without the craic? Very, very welcoming lot, should represent Ireland at the olympics next year. Save your €50 at the Shite House and have a proper Irish experience here.

Going to see Biffy Clyro in concert at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, we ended up going on an impromptu, but fun pub crawl to a fairly mixed array of pubs / bars. Harkin's was the last before we hit the concert grounds and by far my favourite. A lovely surprise, the pint of Guinness was just simply divine. No surprise really as it's located right beside the St James Gate brewery. Inside the decor is clean, comfy and cosy, with the typical Dublin local vibe. TVs on the wall had both the World Cup and GAA. The facilities were in the process of being upgraded, but very clean (excellent). Locals were friendly too. Recommended and I will pop in again next time I'm in the area.

    Beef stew, the house specialty.

    Review Highlights - Harkin's

This seemed the true quintessential Irish pub to me - nothing touristy about it despite its proximity to Guinness Storehouse.

Tucked down Dame Court just off Dame Street, The Stag's Head is one of those rare pubs that feels genuinely historic rather than designed to look old. The building dates to the late 1800s, and the interior retains the ornate features of a classic Victorian "gin palace"--rich carved wood, stained glass, brass rails, and a warm, glowing bar that feels wonderfully preserved. We stopped in around 4:30 pm, which turned out to be a perfect time to visit. There were other patrons enjoying drinks and food, but the atmosphere was calm and relaxed rather than loud or rowdy. It felt like the kind of place where locals drop in for a quiet pint on their way home from work before the evening crowd arrives. The staff were excellent--friendly, welcoming, and attentive without being intrusive. The food was very good (we failed to take photos because we were too busy enjoying it). As a vegetarian, I was thrilled to see the Impossible burger front and center on their menu; it was deliciously prepared with guacamole on a brioche bun, and not an afterthought on the menu. My companions both chose the Irish Beef Burger, and said it was excellent. One thing to know: this is a traditional Victorian pub, so cocktails aren't really part of the program. Expect beer, wine, or spirits rather than mixed drinks. In a place like this, that actually feels exactly right. Other pubs do serve mixed drinks. Between the history, the ambience, the quality of the food, and the wonderful staff, The Stag's Head is the kind of place that makes you feel like you've experienced a real piece of Dublin.
