My first and last time dining at 777, the hostess and waitress were absolutely awful. As a tourist I heard amazing things about this place but it was the service and the overall attitude of the workers that left a bad taste in my mouth. Me and 2 of my guest were ignored the whole night by all 3 women on shift. On top of that our waitress got our order wrong multiple times and when we corrected her ( politely of course) we were given nothing but side eyes as if we were in the wrong. Not to mention she disappeared for the reminder of our meal so we couldn't get more food after the small portions. On top of the shitty service, when it came time for the bill there was a tip included!! They did that on purpose!! I'm a bartender myself and work in the restaurant business, if this is what they think is decent service, then the workers are not as bright as they think they are. I wish I could give them a -4/12 because a one star review is just too generous.

The best food!! Great decor and ambiance!

I'm from California and this is truly THE BEST Mexican food I have ever had!!! I forget the name, but order the pig head! Our group was blown away by the meal and staff! So friendly (everyone in Ireland is extremely friendly!) we even got to meet the cooks! I tell everyone I know traveling to Ireland that they must stop by! It's a really fun environment - great music and lighting!

We got here for Taco Tuesday unintentionally: 2 tacos for 4Euro. We were really just looking to get a nice cocktail but the offer was too good to pass up. The tacos were absolutely fab! Fesh and super tasty. Cocktails were nice and strong. Service was friendly and attentive yet somehow I can't quite give 4 stars. The reason for that is the noise level. The music, although good, was way too loud and therefore conversation wasn't really on the cards. We left after one drink. Pity!

I ate a pig snout and I liked it. This is one that's been on the list for AGES, but mediocre reviews from a few people had put me off. Now that I've been, I can see no room for mediocracy in a review for 777. They were top drawer all the way as far as I'm concerned. - Staff were attentive, friendly and the right side of casual - The food was really, really excellent. The ceviche was the star of the show, as were the bife taquitos. The pig's head is definitely a novelty. It was nice, and certainly fun, though a bit too fatty for me. The sauces that accompanied it were lovely, and the tortillas were plentiful. (Eat the snout, trust me! Just remember that it's not for the faint hearted!!) - The decor is really funky, and I love being able to eat at a nice bar area (though this wouldn't suit everyone) Why not five stars? A few minor gripes like the menu being a bit over-complicated, and the bar stools being stuck to the ground, so if you're seated in front of the door, there's not much you can do to be moved from the draft. But they are really really minor issues and hardly worth mentioning, considering the stellar standard of the rest.

Nachos and killer guac

WARNING : The margaritas are VERY strong! I had a wonderful meal here last night! It was my first visit, but defiantly won't be my last! The atmosphere is verrrry chill and laid back, which is nice! The staff are awesome and the interior is pretty sweet too! The music is way too loud though, but If you can get over that, everything else is on point! Instead of getting a main, I went for a couple of starters, so it ended up like Mexican tapas. Can I remember the names of the dishes I had? Hell no. The menu is kind of complicated, but they mainly consisted of chargrilled beef, mini tacos and I'm pretty sure there was some raw tuna steak thrown into the mix as well! Oh, and nachos with home made guacamole. Seriously impressive guac! As for the drinks, if you enjoy a cheeky cocktail as much as I do, then this spot is a must. The frozen margaritas (2 for 12 on Mondays) are to DIE FOR! Very strong, but to die for! Highly recommend If your looking for something a little bit different!

I can hand you a number of reasons to try your luck at 777, but a few of the odds are stacked against it: 1. When you name your restaurant 777, you've got to ask yourself ONE question: Do I feel lucky? 2. Brought a friend from Texas and he liked the Margaritas so much that he had TWO. The drinks menu was diverse and delighted most of the party. Unfortunately, the cocktails aren't cheap and the cuisine is just TOO expensive. 3. How do you pronounce the name of this THREE digit restaurant anyway? Triple-seven? Treble-seven? Or, Siete-siete-siete? 4. (as in) FOR Mexican food, this place is neither cheap nor authentic, but it is delicious and creative (pepitas on the guacamole). The starter Cangrejo crab tostadas and pork main (Costillas) that I tried were muey bueno and everyone else seemed to enjoy their orders as well. I enjoyed the sweetness of the guava, and the ribs were delicioso - even if they did not live up to their billing as "spicy". The service is similarly dichotomous - friendly and often checking at our table, but disorganized with the orders and not as officious at serving our friends in the booth next to us. 5. Is about all the people that can squeeze in at a table/booth, so it's not a great place for groups... 6. ...but they require a minimum of SIX to make a reservation. Huh? 7. The noise level is impossibly loud - in contrast to the monochrome mariachi décor, which is as cool and hip as a Robert Rodriguez film. No fiesta colors here - except in the food and on the tattooed staff and clientele.... If you're looking for a quiet group dinner with cheap Mexican food, 777 does not have your number, but it is one sexy bar. And, 777 may be your lucky number if you're going for alcohol, appetizers, and ambience.

Chilaquiles

I'd been here once before for a marg on a night out. Anyway, I decided to pop in for the 7.77 Sunday special. So happy I did! The cocktail of the day was a delightfully sweet yet sour strawberry and vodka concoction. The shrimp tacos were gorgeous. The pork tacos even better. The chilaquiles were not the best but they were edible, I'm just fussy about my chilaquiles (better ones at Azteca). Service was very good. The biggest drawback was how bloody loud it was! Way way wayyyyy too loud!

This has quickly become one of my top favorites in Dublin. The staff takes great care to provide the best service possible. This restaurant is difficult to get into as it's very popular and they don't take reservations, unless you need a table for a large group. Put your name in and grab a drink down the street. They will call you when you're about to be seated. The food is fantastic. With a tapas style menu, you can sample several items and share them all. The streak and chicken are my favs and rival anyone in town!

I've been threatening to go to 777 for a long time and I finally went on one of their 777 Sundays. The deal on a Sunday is that there's a special menu with tapas for €7.77 each. It's like a taster for the full menu and it's a great way to get people in! We spotted their tweet about it and decided to head over! So the outside is extremely drab, but it's all an illusion and it really works. You do not expect this little oasis to be inside. The interior reminds me of being in sunnier climates, but remaining intimate. We sat up at the bar and had a look at the menu. Nothing is marked. 90% of their menu is gluten free or can be adapted - I checked several times with lots of people and the 777 twitter account, but the waitress had to check with the kitchen what was what. This is a huge pet hate of mine. Please mark the menus. PLEASE! Otherwise, you end up like me and avoid some places because there are no markings, and, when you venture in, have the staff have to go to the kitchen to check. It's not a confidence booster at all. In fact, it would turn the majority of coeliacs off the establishment straight away. On another pet peeve note, the waitress did actually confirm with my other half that I was a "real" coeliac when I was in the bathroom. I was a bit peeved when I heard, but I understand they get a lot of fad dieters in. Anyway, the waitress came back and listed everything we could have. We had to read the descriptions as she did so and, honestly, she did it so fast that neither of us could remember the first dish (again, this always happens when you don't mark the damn menu!), and decided to order anything gluten free, which was six tapas. She looked at us like we were a bit crazy, and suggested to choose four... so she listed them again to us and we chose four and the cocktail that was on special. (Again marking the menus would make it clearer!) The food arrived pretty quick. It was freaking awesome! We had taco campeon, el gringo, huevos rancheros, and chilli con carne. We had to ask for more of the corn chips for the chilli because they got all mushed in the bottom of the bowl. The 777 Sunday menu changes every Sunday so the pictures above may not be available on a particular Sunday, but it was all scrumptious. I would most definitely be trying more the next time! We devoured the food on the plate. It was all so flavour packed and delicious. We were seriously hungry monkeys! I was so so stuffed leaving. I even had a food baby that I was thinking of naming with the 777 Twitter account! (They're also on Facebook.) I will definitely be back for more! Small observation: You have to go through the kitchen when you go to the bathroom, and you can hear all the conversations that the staff are having. Two in particular were quite disgruntled about being there! It didn't affect the food though so it's all good! Also, ladies and gents they have somewhere to hang your bag/coat/hat while you eat up at the bar! Little hooks are the best thing ever to keep everything within reach.. including the camera for awesome food photos! I'm giving it 3 stars out of five, just because of the logistics and my peeves about the menu markings. Took forever to order because of it. The food was awesome. www.dublinglutenfree.ie

Margaritas!

777 - finally got a taste of the ongoing hype. Yes, it's a jewel box of colors when you walk in and the eats are delicious. But the price tag is hefty my friends. Nine euro for chips and guacamole is up there even if the guac is amazing (and I make my own so that says a lot!) It's a gourmet take on Mexican eats and they do it well. I'd say the only item I'd not revisit are the fried plantains which arrived smothered in cheese and sour cream - come on 777 you can do better than that! The margies were wonderful - yet smallish for 12 euro a gulp! They encourage you to order three small plates each but you can get away with two each, including chips, unless you're mighty hungry. I'd return on one of their promoted discount days (777 Sundays / Margarita Mondays / Taco Tuesdays) or if I'm not famished. We walked out spending over 100 euro on four small plates, chips/guac, and two margaritas. Like I said, that's up there for Mexican food, even here; I was in 777th Heaven until we got the bill... It was a great night nonetheless - plus it was Cinco de Mayo even if the staff was clueless about the American/Mexican 'Holiday' ... but, hey, we're not in America, nor are we in Mexico compadres, so let's take what we can get! I'll take it 777!

Selection of small plates and sides from the dinner menu

When a work colleague visiting from the UK asked me where I'd recommend for Mexican in Dublin 777 instantly sprang to mind. I'd been twice before for their great tapas-style Sunday menu (where everything is €7.77) but last night was my first time trying their dinner. The place fills up basically every night so we took two seats at the bar. We decided to get a selection of small plates, 5 in total between two of us with 2 sides. When asked if our order size was okay the waiter used the word "substantial" - he wasn't wrong! The food arrived very quickly and highlights included the amazing guacamole accompanying our tortilla chips as well as the chicken tostados which we were both tempted by and went down very well. If you order one thing make sure to get a side of elotes, which are corn on the cob cooked in spices and cheese. Sounds simple but they are delicious. Also have to give a mention to the great margaritas. Overall a lovely meal and good value as we benefited from the Tuesday special offer of plates of 2 tacos for €4!

Peach and Raspberry Daquiris!

I've only ever been for the 777 brunch, but I haven't been disappointed. The food is all really tasty and the general service is good. Some of the dishes might be a little pricey otherwise, (although the portions may be bigger, I don't know) but for brunch, especially sharing some dishes, it's great. It's probably best for two people/a small group - we were at the bar and a conversation between more then two people would be impossible, most of the tables aren't that large, and they didn't seem to be much room to move them around to accommodate larger groups. One thing though - the menus are photocopied from a hand-written original, and some of the dishes are really hard to read. My first time, I had to ask the waiter to explain several of them, which sucked and meant it took way longer to order.

Classic Margarita, Wall of Tequila

TEQUILA One of my favourite places to get a margarita in Dublin. Limey, sour, bitter perfection. Absolutely potent all the same one is nearly enough would knock you for six. The sorbets are sexual try them all. Star lost because of.... Rude head of house on the day. He made myself and my friend feel like an major inconvenience in an empty restaurant by seating us at the waiting area at the back of the bar that had a wooden ledge just wide enough to place our drinks on. Would have stayed for more if he hadn't made us feel like such a burden. Requested to sit at the bar with the promise that we would move if they got at all busy. Still it seemed that we were asking him to climb Croagh Patrick and back again! We were seated close to the door as in drink up quick and get out. This was followed by a beaming have a lovely evening which came across as uber fake. Somebody please inform this man of how he is coming across and that he is not adding to the cool factor. Enjoyment of tequila tainted unfortunately.

Margaritas make me happy!

They were able to accommodate us mid-week without a reservation, but Friday night we made one to come back. There were gobs of people waiting to get in so we're glad we did! The entrance is very non-descript. It's an ugly grey metal door with VCC randomly applied, so if you didn't know what was there it would look industrial. There is a door bell to the left of the door. Ring it a few times and someone will open the door and check you in. With reservations they do make you wait until exactly that time so don't be alarmed. Your table is already selected for you. The inside is loungy and very swanky. Both times we had extremely comfortable chairs. Service is immaculate. Their menu is massive, very well published and explained. Our servers were both able to explain exactly what the cocktail may taste like as some of the combos might blow your mind. I had the Dirty Wizard which sounds odd on based on ingredients but was delicious. I also had the Purple Pearl which was my perfect cocktail. My husband tried a few different whiskey concoctions and he was impressed by all of them. I highly recommend adding VCC to your Dublin itinerary!

They are situated in the base of a sister restaurant, so from the main entrance the only give away is the neon "shhh" sign that sits over the stairway. Once at the base of the stairs an unassuming bookcase/shelf appears. This honestly got us, as we had no clue this was the entrance at first. We wandered around and into the bathrooms expecting some cool bathroom stall entrance. It wasn't until someone came out from behind the bookcase that we figured it out! We did let the "door" close and played with the art on the wall, including the bronze pig head, which turned out to be the hidden lever! Legit already wowed before entering! Upon entry, you are legit transported into a small speakeasy with a few high tops, a cozy bar and a small dining room beyond the second archway. The walls are stone, the lighting is dim and moody, the woods are heavy, and the vibes are immaculate! We sampled a few house-made cocktails, got an appetizer and a few main dishes. Spent a total of close to 2 hours, which is standard and actually timed. Which makes sense and I like, it keeps things moving, on time and allows plenty of time to soak it all in! The Jolly Roger and Espresso Martini were my cocktails for the night. There was a clear theme with both, as stout and espresso were highlights in both. For the app, we went with the fritto misto, which is a combination of fried cheese and veggies. Our mains were both pasta dishes. They were light and simple, yet complex and robust. They were tasty and impressive! Service was stellar from entry to exit. The host's, bartenders and our server were all top notch, friendly, helpful and a joy to interact with! Oh, I do highly recommend reservations! They are a small and very in demand spot, so trying to walk-in is a bit risky. Overall, we absolutely loved our evening at The Blind Pig! This is going to be controversial, but I swear, this is what I saw for real. Not kidding, not exaggerating. For real. We are sitting to the side of the main bar. A bartender is pouring bottled water into a bottle of Jameson. Another employee came over and is talking to her while she is doing this. She 'squishes' the empty bottle, making that crushed plastic sound, before throwing it into the trash. If you're in the area, definitely add No Name Bar to your list!

This place goes by two names, depending on if you are looking at Google Maps, or on Yelp. Google…read moreMaps calls it "The Bar With No Name" (and so do it's proprietors in the hotel above). But Yelp calls it "No Name Bar." Late at night, this is the place to be. The music is loud, the place is hoppin', and everyone is movin' and groovin'. It's LOADS of fun, I can't express that enough - but it DOES get packed! If you are staying in Kelly's Hotel up above it, you MUST visit at least once to see what all the fuss is and why your hotel room is rattling until 2 or 3 in the morning. They have DJs playing every Friday and Saturday "from 10pm until late" as it's billed on their website. It's connected to the hotel, so if you are staying there, you can just head down the stairs to enter. From street level, use the entrance with the snail hanging above the black door with the address number of "3" on the door. It's so easy to walk past and not notice it. The entrance is JUST past the sidewalk patio for L'Gueuleton.

We're fans of the Rustic Stone ... sooo, when we bumped into the Bar Rustic signage on our way…read morehome, we had to take a look! And, we looked, and then we sat, and then we ordered, and then we drank and then we smiled and laughed a little bit more than we expected to in the middle of Saturday afternoon. Go on up to the second level. Grab a comfy seat in one of those black leather chairs. Order the fruity gin and tonic - it's served in a huge goblet that will have you smiling before you've taken your first sip! The vibe is actually sexy. And, the view overlooking the street is pleasing. The bartender is smooth. And, the natural light in the daytime makes this a must stop if you're up for drinking the afternoon away in a spot that's far from your standard, dime a dozen corner pub. Now this is a cool bar - Mr. McGrath is on to something! Cheers!

I've been a few times to Bar Rustic and I have brought quite a few friends along. Many of them seem…read moreto like it too. They have done a great job on it- I like the uplit bar and the brick walls. My favourite thing though are the upholstered chairs- they are lovely ! I have to say in general the staff here are very friendly too- even when its busy. I think the bar has become busier since they opened the first floor as Taste at Rustic. This has made the bar busier which is good for them. I dont like it as much though as it can take a while to get a drink. I had the Elderflower Martini tonight and it was lovely. My friends Martini with Passionfruit was a hit with him. This is a great place for a quick drink before dinner here or elsewhere.
