Now this is a place that I would come to frequently. After enough touristy pubs and pints of the black stuff, finding a restaurant that reminded me of Philadelphia was just what the doctor ordered. This was definitely one of my best Easter meals. The decor and feel of 777 is over the top, in your face and I like it that way. The subway tiles surrounding the dining area with the soft-core pornographic murals and great music make this place seem a bit more like a lounge than a restaurant until you taste the food. That my friends is where its at. No wonder this place has a wait most nights. On Sunday evenings there is a special menu where a variety of items are 7.77 We sampled the tacos (chorizo) while a bit overstuffed were just perfect with spice and sweetness. The tuna belly was something out of Iron Chef. Beautiful presentation and supremely delicate flavors that just made me question how exactly they pulled it off. The Malverde was perfect and I wanted more just to take home for a midnight snack. The popcorn chicken oysters were my least favorite but only because they sat on the table with the other heavy hitters aforementioned. On their own they would be just fine. I think this is a great place to go to and while it would not be a quiet dinner by any means, it's certainly worth the wait. My drink the Michelada was a beer based cocktail that you should just try once. Warning, you might want another. They also took my name and phone number and called when the table was ready. Digestion is a fairly straight forward affair for most people; food goes in, something complicated happens about your mid section, and you feel full end energised after... all very simple. At no point do you think "I wonder what my ears have to do with this?", ears, ordinarily, have very little to do with the consumption of food. So, why is it then as we wandered into 777, tummy rumbling and ready for something to address the issue... that my ears immediately told my tummy that this probably wasn't going to work? Well, my ears probably told my tummy... problem was that my tummy couldn't hear - 2 reasons for this.... 1. Tummys don't have ears 2. The music was so loud, it wouldn't have mattered if they had. We persevered, we were hungry and I really wanted to try the place.. I had heard good things. We ordered nachos, some sort of a beef fijita thing and a couple of beers; it was all tasty and hit the spot but honestly? Popped in to 777 for dinner on a Wednesday at 6.15 and was surprised to see we nabbed the last table in the place, which we were told they would need back at 8.15. I had called ahead the day before but they don't take reservations for numbers below 6 but I figured we'd be fine, I think it was more luck than anything! The place is pretty small to be fair, there's about 7 or 8 tables total and then a seating area at the bar. The menu is divided into small plates and mains. They helpfully state on the menu that 3 small plates equals a main but to be honest you'd be fine with 2. My friends and I plumped for the small plates so we could mix and match. I ordered the tinga (chicken) tostadas and the chorizo taquitos. This place is proper Mexican food so don't expect burritos or tacos and do expect plenty of spice. My chorizo taquitos were HOT but packed full of flavor, if a little oily. The tinga tostadas were delicious too but I was annoyed that they didn't state on the menu that they contain onions. It's a real pet hate of mine when restaurants don't state it, I hate them and plenty of other people do too! The real star though was the carnitas taquitos which I traded my friend a chorizo for. Usually I don't go for pork as it's often dry and bland but this was incredible, juicy and with a smokey grilled flavor, I'd happily eat another plate. We also had two bowls of the chili yams between 3 of us but we barely finished one portion we were so stuffed. For afters (always room for that!) we each had the chocolate cake. It was more like a fondant, firm on top and oozing at the bottom, it's served in a tea cup with ice cream on the side. They add in some Mexican spices that gives it a lovely, almost Christmassy flavour. The service was good, our waitress was very chirpy and attentive. I felt it was a touch on the expensive side though, only by a couple of euro per dish but it would add up if you're getting 3 per person. I would have also like a couple more menu options, the only beef option for the small plates was steak tartar, definitely not to all tastes. Cocktail menu looked great (if also pricey) but I wasn't drinking, I'd like to come back a sample a couple and have more of those carnitas tostadas! read more

777 is a trendy, trendy place. Its also very busy indeed. We had ten people sat at two tables which realistically would have just about fit eight people. It was cramped and uncomfortable. The menu was expensive indeed and unlike any Mexican restaurant I have ever been to. To be honest I don't mind paying for good food. But if I am going to be paying 20+ for a main course I expect to be sat on chair not a plastic stool with my elbows bumping against the person next to me. The service wasn't great, it was friendly but disorganised. Which I can forgive. Spilling a drink on someone's head is just not on to be honest though. I have never seen that in 30 years. The waiter was very sorry to have done it, however he didn't offer a free drink or anything to the recipient of half of my cocktail, he also didn't offer me an apology for spilling half of my drink either. The food was delicious, the redeeming feature of the place. It was also very different, i've never seen somewhere sell fine dining Mexican food before. Its sort of a fusion of high quality restaurant food with Mexican twists. For instance my Beef ribs had a mole sauce which was delicious, The chicken dish had black beans. All very nice indeed. For starters we shared some tortia's which were beef. This turned out to be a steak tartar, which I had never had before. But was amazing. I think I can say everyone liked the food, which is an amazing feat for 10 people. The cocktails were ok, but also very expensive indeed. Overall I think if you have money to burn, like trendy places and there's only two of you then you might have a better experience here than we did. In some ways, I love this place. I love the early evening atmosphere. I love the oysters. I love the drinks and the staff are very pleasant and attentive. The only thing I struggle with is that I find it difficult to decide what to choose. I think the menu could improve, perhaps with more options but I still really like this place. Quite good Mexican food, especially considering that you're in Europe. Be warned Americans, the pronunciation of dishes here is VERY different than what you might expect, so it's really just easier to point to the tequila, cocktails, or food items you want. We had some fish taquitos, chorizo taquitos, and chicken tostadas to share wiht our table. Everything was tasty and quite different - I would recommend the chicken as it was quite tender, beautifully presented, and had an excellent spiced but not spicy flavor. We learned that the spice tolerance of our Irish friends was quite different than our American palates, and so everything we ate wasn't very hot, but our friends thought differently! We also ravaged the cocktail menu, having a mezcal flight (smokier than I expected - if you like peaty scotch you'd enjoy the mezcal flight), several different margaritas, some negro modelo beer, and at least one other cocktail from the list - something with grapefruit. It was fun to go with the group I did, because we all shared a taste of each thing we ordered... But what was funny was when we ordered our entrees. Everyone got the steak (except me)! It's from a good quality local butcher and is well classified as happy, tasty beef. It came with guacamole, peppers, onions, and tiny corn tortillas on the side. Very beautifully presented. As a recovering vegetarian, however, I just couldn't do it and ordered the mushroom dish...which was also tasty. The mushrooms were perfectly done and were slightly sweet and savory, topped with soft white cheese and rocket over a bed of a handmade tortilla. The mushroom dish, however, is HUGE. I recommend if you try it, definitely share. The decor is very hipster, and the service is extremely helpful and attentive. So attentive, sometimes, it felt a little awkward. My table was very efficiently cleared of all bottles, spare cups, and dirty forks; my water was constantly refilled before it was halfway empty. This is getting boring as I've lost track of how many times I've recommended 777 but, quite simply, you will regret it if you don't make an effort to come here. Just stay away on Monday night because, on Monday nights, they have most excellent 2 for the price of 1 margaritas that are simply oustanding. Naturally we had 3 each. As you do. The tempranillo wasn't bad either. They also have a Monday special barbecued steak served on a platter for 2 at a much reduced price. We started with nachos while we waited for the steak but, in truth, we didn't need this as the steak is huge and could possibly feed three at a push. The reason I say don't go here on Mondays is because I want to make sure I can get a table. They don't take bookings, parties of 2 or less are seated at the counter and three or more get one of the small number of booths. A small place with a big offering. First visit a few days ago. The dark, somewhat uninviting, fascade gives no hint to the craziness going on in doors. Ear pounding latin music in a slightly zany interior jammed with people in relatively close quarters. Had margheritas for liquid starters (- recommended! ) and munched on some nachos (the serving was suggested for 2 but was plenty for our table of 3). Followed that up by fish of the day. The coriander and lightly spiced dish was perfect for the fish. Delicious! No complaints from any of the others in my company either. The place is a great place for a few friends to start of a night on the town. The music is LOUD though. Probably the reason for the waitress getting one of the mains wrong. If you can get in early on a Tuesday grab a seat at the bar and get stuck into the Tacos, they are small but that's off set against the flavour - I also recommend the Oyster Shot - A Bloody Mary-esque shot of Tequila, Tomato juice, pepper and a raw oyster... I was very impressed with this place. The decor is cool, the staff are very helpful/know their stuff and the food was very tasty. We had the calamari and the chorizo in tortillas to start. Both were very tasty. They were recommended by the waitress and I have to say that she got it spot on. For main we had the spiced pork ribs and the mushroom tortillas. These were both nice but not as tasty as the starters. The pork was slow cooked and fell off the rib, just perfect. Unfortunately there was the BANG of spice/taste that I was looking forward to. Again the same with the mushroom dish. It was very nice, just not amazing. We got a bottle of house red for €22 and it was very palatable (again recommended). For desert we skipped the food as we were so full. The portions are a good size btw. Instead we went for a cocktail and we both had the house special margarita. This came with a tequila sorbet in the middle. It was amazing!!!! Highly recommend this for anyone that visits. So overall I was very impressed. The food was great. As I said the starters were better than the mains, but this is not a big fail. The mains were good, the starters were just amazing. The wine list was decent, although the price jumps quickly so be prepared. The cocktails were incredible and a must. Finally the staff were very excellent. First I heard of 777 was a recommendation, then I tried to book for a large work group and after a lengthy conversation about suitability, the staff member told me it would not be suitable for my gang (he was right, and turned down my business rather than take on disappointed customers!!) I love Mexican food but I think the food here misses the mark and is overpriced. I think they get away with it because the decor is so good. It's a really nice room to browse with a pretty cool vibe. Myself and my girlfriend didn't want to sit at a bar so we left. Outside we decided to bite the bullet cause we wanted to try the place out. When we went bak inside a different waiter (I'd say the matre d) brought us to a table. He was a nice guy. The table was tiny and how they expect 4 to sit there I don't know. 777 can only be described as the place to be for a terrible experience... which is truly a shame when they have a kitchen that produces such incredible food. I've been four times, and every time I leave saying to myself, "I will never go back there." But then, someone has an event or a friend really wants to go, so I give in with the hope that *maybe* it was an off night the last time (or last 3 times) and service will be better. I must enjoy setting myself up for disappointment. Or perhaps 777 is going for one of those American diner styles of service where you pay to get treated like sh*t and the waitresses are supposed to be horrible, angry monsters who act like they are doing you a huge favor by even acknowledging your existence. My wife and I went here with some friends to celebrate her birthday on a Saturday night. We were supposed to be a party of six, but our sixth could not make it at the last minute. No questions asked. Well played, 777. Given the other yelpers reviews I was expecting a)expensive b)good food c)good service d)good drinks and e) loud. Well done yelpers, you were spot on. I would add that the space is great with very high ceilings and subway tiles with latinish mosaics. I like the bathrooms as well - which are located in the back of the restaurant through the kitchen - I like a restaurant that feels comfortable enough with their kitchen to put it on display. I also liked the communal sink outside of the toilet - nice design, but the lack of any signage on the toilet doors suggests that minimalism can be taken too far. The music is pounding but not so loud that you can't hear most of what your dinner partners are saying. The drinks are good and effective - there was a couple at the bar that enjoyed there drinks so much they seemed to forget that they were out in public(find a room next time, please!). We started out with margaritas - very good - and chips with guacamole and two other sauces - a green one was very good, and a red one that was not interesting. The chips were a bit eh, too. My main criticism of the restaurant though is that there was no freshly made salsa - strange call. From that slight disappointment I moved on to tuna tostadas - excellent! and a main of Chilli Rellenos - very good - a touch more cheese would have been better but really no complaints. Good amount of spice and I loved the fact that there were various hot sauces on the table. Everyone was very happy with their food. My wife had the Scallop ceviche and others had the tuna main. I thought the menu was crap - so limited for my taste (eh nice food). Expensive. The taco I got was bland and with beans mysteriously missing (ultimate taco rage!!). The salad was uninteresting.
