It's easy to see why Exchequer became the hot and trendy spot with their exposed brick walls, classic clean furniture, and savory menu. Located right next to the Central Hotel, it was only like 3 steps for me. The problem I always see with the trendy spots is that the food is excellent, the staff is cool if you're cool, but the clientele are shit heads (see also... ass hats). They think that they are the greatest on the planet and treat everyone like shit. I don't do well with this group, I always get the urge to toss them out a window when they are rude to the staff or even the table next to them. But I can't fault Exchequer for them. We stopped in for a small bite and they were just closing the kitchen. The waitress rushed in and got them to make us a few small dishes, it was great. These chefs are talented and the menu is outstanding. This is a great place to impress a date (bring your wallet though). Do yourself a favor and joke around with the staff, they will much appreciate it after dealing with the rest of the clients. **** Winner of the best Gastropub in Ireland 2010 *****

This. Is. My. One. Favorite. Cocktail. Place. IN THE WORLD!!! Before the Dirty Dick in Paris. Before Tokyo's Hyatt 'New York Bar'. So, okay, the food is average. The veal was awesome, but everything else was okay without making me ask for more. I wouldn't recommend the deserts though. But the cocktails! Mamma mia, their cocktails! Just a though about them and i'm teleported to cloud 9. We started with the * Key lime pie * cocktail. Sir, Madam, this is a real work of art. I can't spoil you, but trust me and try it, you won't be disappointed. We went on with the Tropical Pornstar which was awesome, very complex taste for a fruity girly drinks. Shut up, take my money and serve me moar! We then tried the Smokey Old Fashioned. Gosh, that was amazing too! They can change the taste of the smoke according to your taste. Without mentioning that the presentation is absolutely gorgeous too. I'm dreaming of my next drink at the Exchequer (probably in a few hours), and all the cocktails I still have to experience. Challenge: TRY ALL THE COCKTAILS \o/ If you accept this challenge, you, my friend, are making the right choice in your life (yes, who cares about a car, a house or a family when you can have such amazing cocktails)

Well this place sorted me out at the end of our night - it was a long and enjoyable heavy session with friends but the Exchequer was the perfect place to have 2 final pints and see out our evening in proper pub style. A pretty big bar area with enough room to slump or stand - we were in on what is probably an unfashionable night with it being Monday but there was still enough atmosphere with us bringing the party even if no one else was up for it. Some good lagers, wheat beers and ales on tap - the girls also seemed to be quite happy with their cocktails. I remember sipping on some tasty treats but for me it's all about the beers. A bottle of Brewdog 5 am saint was enough to put a smile on my face and with this make sure I remember the Excheq' for a repeat visit!

Delicious meal. Incredible meat and sides. I loved the roasted potatoes especially along with the meat. The staff was great and the bottle of wine include delicious.

Updating my review and upgrading the rating to a big 5 stars. Without a doubt the Exchequer is one of the top gastro-pubs in Dublin. I've been here now 5 times and each time I have been wowed by the food. This visit I tried with the potted rabbit appetizer----so good and served with warm bread and a mini salad---and the lamb rump as my main---again some of the best cuts of meat I've had in a while. Each was matched with wine from Exchequer's extensive selection. The Exchequer is a very popular trendy place (really neat custom woodwork around the bar and in the back dining room) that remains unpretentious with a very friendly staff.

Very disappointing. After the last time, I had high expectations; especially seeing the lunch deals. With a craving for fish and chips however (which is not the deal until Friday) I ignored them and ordered it anyway at the usual €13.95 rate. Really good portion, in that respect I can't complain. But the fish itself was coated with a soggy, undercooked batter- a cardinal sin in my book. And in general the while thing lacked a good hit of salt and pepper which the tartar sauce, having an overkill of onions, did little to provide. No buzz at lunch and the atmosphere is a a bit dim; not too sure if I'll return.

Key lime pie

Nice meal in the Exchequer, though definitely not as wow-some as I'd anticipated. I had a goats cheese salad with added chicken, my friend had the lamb main. The food was good and very tasty but the portions were very small for the price. The lamb was €22 and honestly nearly could have been a kid's meal. They charged me €7 for the extra chicken on my salad which I thought was a bit much. The decor as well is pretty dated and kinda gloomy. The cocktails however are out of this world. I would recommend rounding off your meal with a key lime pie one. It's literally like drinking desert. And who would be opposed to that!!!

This review is for drinks in the bar area only. Awesome ambiance, good looking people and a fantastic drink menu. This place is perfect for me. Stylish and fun. Though we stuck with beer and wine, I was incredibly jealous of people's cocktails. In particular the room lit up when the bartender made the key lime martini. Though I didn't taste it, I stalked the person who ordered the key lime martini. She gave me the thumbs up for approval. I loved the generous pour of my wine, and my husband enjoyed his peroni. If we have time, we will be back!

Hendricks gin cocktail in a tea pot. Hard to beat!
Elisha C.

I've been in here several times and each time I've ordered the same thing- the Hendricks gin cocktail in a tea pot. At €20 it's not the cheapest option but if you're having it to yourself, it can go a long way. Utterly refreshing it's hard to not guzzle this sweet nectar from the teapot spout all at once. - yep I'm a fan of this citrusy, cucumbery cocktail. :) The place it's self is a nice spot though I have only been in it at off peak times - as in not a Friday/Saturday night. I'm pretty sure I'll be seeing this place again in the near future.

Very cool place with the best cocktail menu !! They have a little book that has the history of cocktails all over the world and a cocktail to go along with each era. The cocktails themselves are awesome and the bartenders put so much work into them. Some they even use a little flame blower to finish the top. They always have a cocktail and a beer of the week which are really good value and usually something a little different. I also love the decor and the fake library wall. The back of the bar is really cool like a big sculpture on the ceiling. The staff are super friendly and know a lot about the drinks they serve. They also have a full food menu in the back section and have a bar menu in the front bar but i have never eaten here.

A little late on this review since I went last month to the exchequer. I love the atmosphere of this bar/restaurant. It has a cocktail menu to be proud of and by god the pisco sour (may have come under a different name) was pretty damn fabulous. One of the best I've ever had and that is saying something since I drink them raaaathhherrrr often. Food was good and hearty. If you order bread, expect about 2 loaves per person. It's crazy big. I had the goats cheese main and thought it was fantastic - really tasty. My colleague had the duck Wellington which he said was also very good. The portions here are quite large so we probably didn't need the bread OR the sides of fries. Greedies. We thought the wine was a bit meh, but everything else was super. Service was excellent but we got a bit forgotten after we'd eaten (we were tucked around the corner). I would recommend to folk in the area looking for a lively spot for dinner or drinks.

I've eaten here before but it was drinks only this time. We rocked up after dinner in pichet and it wasn't too busy- it was bank holiday Sunday night. The cocktails here are great- I've tried them before. I had a Blue Moon beer- it's a light wheat beer- and the others had various beers and wines. The bar staff know their stuff and service is pretty quick. The floor staff are friendly too. The bar itself is lovely- I like the design. The toilets announce themselves before you arrive- a bit smelly! Probably the only bad thing about the place. However they are downstairs so it's not a big thing. If you like cocktails and friendly service. This could be the place for you.

I love the drink selection here and next to Kehoe's is my favorite spot in Dublin. great food and staff, but the drinks .... very original and a great selection of alcohols. let's put it this way, my favorite book is "eye of the storm" by jack higgins, my second favorite is the drink menu at the exchequer.

They were able to accommodate us mid-week without a reservation, but Friday night we made one to come back. There were gobs of people waiting to get in so we're glad we did! The entrance is very non-descript. It's an ugly grey metal door with VCC randomly applied, so if you didn't know what was there it would look industrial. There is a door bell to the left of the door. Ring it a few times and someone will open the door and check you in. With reservations they do make you wait until exactly that time so don't be alarmed. Your table is already selected for you. The inside is loungy and very swanky. Both times we had extremely comfortable chairs. Service is immaculate. Their menu is massive, very well published and explained. Our servers were both able to explain exactly what the cocktail may taste like as some of the combos might blow your mind. I had the Dirty Wizard which sounds odd on based on ingredients but was delicious. I also had the Purple Pearl which was my perfect cocktail. My husband tried a few different whiskey concoctions and he was impressed by all of them. I highly recommend adding VCC to your Dublin itinerary!

It feels a bit weird writing a public review of a secret spot...but I can't gatekeep this spot!…read more The Blind Pig Speakeasy was one of our favorite spots while in Ireland, and it ranks high on our list for several reasons! They are situated in the base of a sister restaurant, so from the main entrance the only give away is the neon "shhh" sign that sits over the stairway. Once at the base of the stairs an unassuming bookcase/shelf appears. This honestly got us, as we had no clue this was the entrance at first. We wandered around and into the bathrooms expecting some cool bathroom stall entrance. It wasn't until someone came out from behind the bookcase that we figured it out! We did let the "door" close and played with the art on the wall, including the bronze pig head, which turned out to be the hidden lever! Legit already wowed before entering! Upon entry, you are legit transported into a small speakeasy with a few high tops, a cozy bar and a small dining room beyond the second archway. The walls are stone, the lighting is dim and moody, the woods are heavy, and the vibes are immaculate! We sampled a few house-made cocktails, got an appetizer and a few main dishes. Spent a total of close to 2 hours, which is standard and actually timed. Which makes sense and I like, it keeps things moving, on time and allows plenty of time to soak it all in! The Jolly Roger and Espresso Martini were my cocktails for the night. There was a clear theme with both, as stout and espresso were highlights in both. For the app, we went with the fritto misto, which is a combination of fried cheese and veggies. Our mains were both pasta dishes. They were light and simple, yet complex and robust. They were tasty and impressive! Service was stellar from entry to exit. The host's, bartenders and our server were all top notch, friendly, helpful and a joy to interact with! Oh, I do highly recommend reservations! They are a small and very in demand spot, so trying to walk-in is a bit risky. Overall, we absolutely loved our evening at The Blind Pig! This is going to be controversial, but I swear, this is what I saw for real. Not kidding, not exaggerating. For real. We are sitting to the side of the main bar. A bartender is pouring bottled water into a bottle of Jameson. Another employee came over and is talking to her while she is doing this. She 'squishes' the empty bottle, making that crushed plastic sound, before throwing it into the trash. Then she puts the pour spout back on top of the Jameson bottle and walks back into the main bar area. O.M.G. Really? Why me?! It is at this point I think to look at the Yelp reviews. Whoa. First thing I see is to the effect of 'my white friends got in, but not me'. Second thing I see is 'Asians not allowed'. Holy mackerel! My SO and I take a serious look around and O.M.G., no kidding, not one non-WASP in the joint! I feel dirty and disgusted. I have no idea that anyone in here has a clue of this fact, but now that it has been pointed out, it is so very clear. We left just as fast as we could. I will never return.

I'm looking back on the menu & I think the drink I ordered was "Fight Club" (Don Julio Blanco, mango, Falernum, camomile, lemon, & sugar) & it was phenomenal. The bartender scorched a hot pepper & carefully placed it on top, which MADE the drink. He also made my partner a Paper Plane with Scotch. Delicious. Speaking of the bartender, he was a real champion. Such a nice guy with a bit of flair to his style of bartending. We really enjoyed chit chatting with him.
