We were famished after a long trip and found Foley's Bar near our hotel, went in for an early supper. Foley's has two floors, the downstairs area offers live music but no real food menu so we headed upstairs. The place was crowded (later learned there was an American football game in town with 30,000 fans from Georgia Tech and Florida State; in future I would avoid visiting Dublin during this time!) Foley's offers typical pub food in a casual sports bar atmosphere. My chicken tenders were nicely spiced and meaty, although the accompanying fries were kind of bland. Fish and chips were good too. Service was slow but that's to be expected on a crowded evening. We were surprised to see the check in $USD (no choice of currency offered) rather than in Euros (the coin of the realm), with a 8.75% "exchange rate markup fee" tacked on to the total. We weren't given a choice of currency as stated on the bill (see picture). I've never seen this done elsewhere, seems like a petty way to make a bit of extra money from unsuspecting tourists. We were tired and the place was crowded so we paid and left without comment. But that unwarranted currency fee didn't leave a good taste in our mouths at all. read more

We picked this bar based on the reviews and the food options, we knew there would also be a futbol game on that day, and the decor looked super unique and eclectic. We arrived for lunch a little after opening on a Saturday. The place filled up quickly and was full before we left. This was also our first time having a meal with the Sweet Chili sauce, which we've both had on other foods before but something about the fried food in Ireland made the sauce that much tastier! We order boneless wings and pepperoni pizza. The Red Headed cocktail was amazing - earthy and a tad sweet. The restaurant overall has a snazzy feel, the bathrooms were by far the nicest I had seen this far and the staff was friendly. read more

After a long walk and museum hunger struck and checked out 3 others in the area and chose Foley's. Was greeted and Sat immediately and in short order had a Guinness lined up and a order for the foley chicken sandwich. They delivered a large sandwich with steak fries and coleslaw. The sandwich was excellent and highly recommend it. Plenty of attention from the staff but can pick up their game with bottles of ketchup and malt vinegar instead of packets. I like my fries more well done but most would enjoy and nothing greasy about them. Definitely would go back. read more

We visited Foley's Bar TWICE during our time in Dublin. The lunch menu is amazing and the staff are so friendly. I recommend the super food salad (dressing on the side) and black currant-flavored water (it tastes like a fruit-flavored tea). We liked the chicken tenders, too - they are spicy! Really liked this spot! Affordable booze, really nice atmosphere and decor and the bar staff was pretty attentive and nice! Kind of stumbled in originally and ended up sticking around for the evening. The food is quite nice and well priced. I personally got the burger with chips and that was delicious and incredibly fresh. The burger meat was top notch stuff! Chips were lovely and crispy and the side salad was beautifully garnished. I was drinking Smithwicks red ale which they had on tap and was surprisingly only 5 quid a pint! One of the people we were with got the chicken supreme and it appeared to go down incredibly well as did the cocktails a few members of our group tried. Two things that we found to fault was that the table wasn't cleared and we had to do it to make room for more glasses and secondly that the Yelp deal advertised on this wasn't valid at the time however is still available on the app! I studied abroad in Dublin and lived right down the street from this restaurant. This was my absolute favorite restaurant. I think I came here over 5 times throughout the semester. I miss it so much now. The coolest part of it is the ambiance. You feel like you're sitting in a parlor just hanging out on the couches with the candles they burn in old liquor and wine bottles. The art is cool and the decor is unlike any other restaurant. It seems like a small place but then there are 2 more levels that are just as neat as the first floor. The servers and bartenders were always super friendly and fun to talk to every time we went. But the real reason you go to Foley's is for the Foley's burger. I get it without a bun and with roasted vegetable instead of fries, but it's one of the absolute BEST burgers I've ever had. Without a doubt! If I return to Dublin, there's not a doubt in my mind I'll go to Foley's. Craving that burger right now! read more

Surprised there aren't more reviews about this local Irish Pub on Merrion Row. As a foreigner, this is probably the go to block for historic, traditional and nostalgic pubs. This pub has a lot of old world charm and character with an appealing décor. Bartender was friendly, courteous and interested in our accents which to my surprise coming from the US, we were only interested in hearing his Irish accent. It's a pleasant and scenic walk from downtown passing several parks with lush trees and wooden benches. Can't wait to get back to visit again and reminisce our past visit. read more

I went here for my 22nd birthday and was happy about my choice. The food was amazing and reasonably priced for being abroad, and our server had a vibrant personality. I ordered the fish and chips (had to in Ireland) and the seafood chowder. Both were delicious and definitely something that could very easily feed two hungry people, but ya know I just wanted to spoil for my birthday. The breading on the fish was nice and crispy and the soup had good sized pieces of fish in it. The fish in the picture may not look large but I would say it was about 10 inches long and decently thick. Our waiter was very helpful in recommending several bars in the area that younger 20 year olds go to often and the things to see and do in Dublin. Cool kitschy spot in the lovely neighborhood of lower Baggot. The pub attracts a slightly older crowd where there were only five or so of us under 30. Was there Saturday early in the evening (8ish), and when we arrived it was a pleasant vibe and good music. As the clocks got closer to ten volume dramatically increased and at some point it was so loud I could barely hear my own thoughts. Great food, great service in a great area of Dublin. We stayed at the stauntons on the green a block or two away. The girl at the guesthouse recommended here for dinner. In my opinion this place had the best fish n chips in all the places we visited in ireland. Their batter is just different. 'Fish pie' consisted of savagely overcooked salmon and a few rubbery, stunted mussels, served in a white sauce with raw carrots and celery, a mountain of mashed potato and a weird finger of puff pastry - basically a sausage roll with the sausage removed. We stopped in to Foley's our first day in Dublin after walking around a bit. The decor is quite charming. The colors reminded me of a coffee shop actually. The Irish Lamb Stew was great, season well with a lot of bits of lamb. My fiancee had the chicken curry which was tasty, but the chicken was a bit tough. My first visit to Ireland on business and arrived in time for St Patty's Day. Staying at the Merrion around the corner and passed by Foley's and decided to stop in. Outstanding!!! The decor catches your eye as you walk in and immediately feel a sense of charm. The menu is small but well balanced with local favorites, a diverse offering of seafood, steak, gluten options, chicken, traditional Irish specials and the ingredients are fresh. The service is fantastic and the speed of the meal from the kitchen is amazingly quick given how everything is prepared fresh!!! Ate here twice and had to try the fish and chips and had the Foley burger the second visit. The bartender is exceptional and has several unique cocktails and makes all of them fresh from scratch.
