I showed up randomly at 2am today 6/29 because I was visiting a friend in Paso Robles. This place is open 24/7, and it had free parking and decent reviews, so I decided to give it a try. I waited for the only other customers to leave the open window for ordering, and I made my way to make my order. I was greeted by a Filipina with a very positive and friendly vibe, which was peculiar so early in the morning. She offered me cronuts, which just came out and were still warm. I took one and a Gatorade and ate it next to my Mustang. Not lying, but it was probably one of the best pastries I've ever tasted, even better than Stan's Donuts in Santa Clara, and also better than my favorite places in Paris and Rome overseas. I went back to the window for more, and the Filipina baker gave me a generous deal for 5 more fresh cronuts, two with strawberry topping. I'm Filipino too, and I felt like I had a memorable connection with the staff and food. This place should be on the bucket list of anybody visiting California. My only regret is not being able to tip much this time. Wish the staff the best. read more

We stopped by D K Donuts just a little bit ago because I had a sweet tooth. The lady manning that counter, Jeannie (I asked her name) was amazing! She was funny, inviting and so very upbeat! She claimed that all the donuts tasted great with wine! Lol. She was a delight! Also, the donuts were very fresh and in abundance! Usually at this hour donut places have slim pickens! NOT THIS PLACE! The lady serving was as pleasant as reviews make her out to be, and the donuts looked nice and fresh. Although no vegan donuts were available, all seems good. But I saw something here that made me sad for the rest of my day. A customer ahead of me bought a couple donuts but dropped both on the ground as he was exiting. The cashier noticed but did nothing to help, just said something negative about him and absolved herself of responsibility, which to be fair, it wasn't her fault. A little kid who saw it happen even suggested that she replace the donuts. I certainly hope the cashier leans in to her sweetness (no pun intended) more by helping out her patrons. read more

OK, so maybe these aren't quite 5 star donuts, but honestly I'm not sure what makes a 5 star donut. If a donut becomes a 5 star donut, is it really even a donut anymore?... I bet they have those white speckled coffee cups with the brown rim. You know the kind I'm talking about. The donuts are delicious, fresh, inexpensive, and the beautiful woman behind the counter always flirts with me, and cracks slightly awkward jokes, which I look forward to. But the frosting on this fried dough emporium is the fact that THEY'RE OPEN 24 HOURS. IMO, it's not a real donut shop if it's not open 24 hours. My favorite donut shops have the word "OPEN" literally stenciled on their window. That is a level of commitment that I admire... but this is Paso Robles, so I can respect wanting to keep ones options open... So, I won't fault them for not hiring a stenciler. I want more of these types of places, and less places with stale cereal sprinkled on yesterdays donuts. read more

*Update* Came in last Saturday and the doughnuts were so stale we didn't even eat the doughnuts we purchased, we just threw them in the trash. So disappointing. The inside of the shop was at least 90 degrees which made it so uncomfortable which is probably intentional because they don't want anyone hanging around inside, might as well remove the tables and chairs. We won't be back. I was going to give this doughnut shop two stars but upped it to three because they're open 24 hours a day. I've never had a super fresh doughnut from here no matter what time of day I go. Several doughnuts I've had were very dry, or stale. Like most donut shops, they cater to the morning crowd. This means they start their main daily baking at like 1 or 2 am. So toward the afternoon/evening they may be getting older. But, if you go in the middle of the night and ask for "whatever is still warm" then you will get the best donuts of your life. Their warm buttermilk donuts are flat out life changing. read more
