We visited on a Saturday, so we sat at the bar to avoid the 40 minute wait. The bartender was really friendly (even if she was a Cardinals fan serving two Cubbies, during a Cubs/Cards game). She was also pretty attentive for working a full bar. The reason we went to D'Arcy's is because I wanted to try a Horseshoe. I saw this on Food Network's Drive-ins, Diners & Dives, and thought it looked disgusting, I had to try one. I completely understand why this place is so popular. That horseshoe was so incredibly delicious, and they made it perfectly. I had the turkey horseshoe, and I like how they make it with deli turkey. That concoction of toast, turkey, fries and cheese was like a party in my mouth; I only wish I could find one in Chicago. I have been here many times over the last 2 years; even during the Covid mess. I love the horseshoes and so many other things on their menu. I went to this place for lunch on Friday. We had heard the food was good so we were willing to wait the 15-20 minutes. However, when my friend simply asked if we could see the menu, we were "greeted by a really hostile short, dark haired, hostess who "threw" the menu at us and acted as if we were somehow bothering her. Mind you, she was standing in front of the menus. We simply asked for a menu rather than just grab it from the stack. That would have been rude. Instead, she was rude. We left the restaurant. Do not order the pizza. It was so greasy that the oil overpowered the toppings. It made my son I'll. When I told the server she still made me pay for it even though most of it was left behind. Dinner might be better but lunch was weak. I will not be back. I could get a pot roast sandwich but could not get a bowl of pot roast cause pot roast is a dinner item. Darcy's buffalo chicken horseshoe or pony is by far the BEST horseshoe in Springfield. When I make time for in-house or takeout, always consistently amazing. I have tried horseshoes elsewhere when I lived there, none stack up to Darcy's and for quite some time, I guess going all the way back to the previous location. read more

The food was AMAZING. I wish there were more words to say but that should be enough for you. It was busy at noon on a Thursday, they said a 15-20 minute wait, we probably waited about 10-15. The menu had so many things I wanted to try on it! I ended up with a "Deluxe Ponyshoe"; it was my first time even hearing of a "horseshoe" but it was delicious and perfectly flavored. My friend had the fried catfish and chips; she raves about the catfish and tarter sauce and fries! We were so happy with what we ordered, we are talking about going back for dinner today. The waitress was also very kind and helpful. We were on a bit of a time crunch but she helped as best she could; even recommending something else when my friend ordered something that would take awhile to cook. She was quick and attentive. Just moved to Springfield, one of the locals recommended this place. Right now they're using lots of outdoor space to serve people. Nice location, service was great too. Servers very helpful in breaking down the menu, there's lots on the menu! Heard their horseshoe are the go to! Tried the Irish Cheesesteak Horseshoe: it was good! Spicy cheese cause isn't very spicy, could use a dash of hot sauce forsure. Also got the o Barney burgers; pretty goood!! They have Guinness beer! Had a blonde; really crisp! Loved it. The food wasn't very good and the service was terrible when we went. I don't understand the appeal. We visited on a Sunday when it was packed, and ended up waiting forty minutes for a table. It didn't seem like the type of place that would have a wait. We just kind of randomly ended up here after visiting Scheels as it sounded like it would be good. When we got a table it took a really long time for a server to even come, and then to bring us what we needed throughout the visit. She forgot things a couple of times. A manager came over, and was able to prepare food for my wife's special dietary needs. They did a good job with that, but that is about the only thing I can give credit for. My Reuben sandwich wasn't very good, and was probably one of the worst I can remember having in a long time. After the long wait it was very disappointing. We ended up spending two and a half hours at this restaurant in total with how long everything took. I couldn't believe how long we were there, and the worst part was that it wasn't even a good meal. read more

They have some great options for just about anything you could be craving. We had fried mushrooms and stuffed peppers for apps. The stuffed peppers were huge with a small kick, no eyes watered. When in Springfield, one must Horseshoe! And I think this is THE PLACE to go to experience this Springfield, IL specialty. D'Arcy's does not take reservations so my boyfriend and I decided to rush over to beat the crowd. We arrived around 5pm on a Saturday evening and the restaurant was already packed, with several people waiting in the doorway and around the front area. We were told our wait would be around 45 minutes, but we were called to a table in about half the time. One criticism that I have of the restaurant is their seating/hosting techniques could be refined, as I saw several large tables for 6-8 people sat with 2 people. Having worked as a hostess for a few years, I can see how this would leave a sour taste in some patron's mouths, especially when they're standing, waiting with screaming kids, and in direct view of said tables. On to our experience! We were seated in a large room to the left of the entrance, and we were both thankful as this room was much, much more quiet than the main dining area. Our server greeted us immediately and was such a professional from the beginning to the end of the meal. She expedited our entire experience without us feeling rushed and never missed a beat. We both had to try D'Arcy's famous shoes! My boyfriend built his own plain shoe and I went with a signature shoe: the Supreme, with seasoned ground beef, spicy cheese sauce, diced tomatoes, bacon, scallions, and a side of hot sauce. Just from the sound of this dish, one might think it's a 1) total heart attack and 2) a weird, unnecessarily crazy combination, but I really, really enjoyed it! The fries were hot, crispy, and delicious and the spicy cheese sauce was flavorful without being overwhelming. All the toppings were fresh and the presentation was nice, too! Went here on a Saturday evening after getting multiple recommendations. Many people say this place has great 'shoes; however, no one in our party of 3 wanted excessive cheese sauce for dinner. The restaurant wasn't very tidy and looked like it could use a good cleaning. It was also difficult to discern who was part of the staff and who wasn't: apparently there was no uniform code. Our waitress was friendly. We had 1 burger, 1 Ruben, and 1 fish and chips. All were O.K.: not bad not great, hence the 3 stars. We came here right after noon on a Thursday (Valentine's day) and were immediately seated, which is quite unusual, especially on a holiday. No crowd at all. Our waitress was extremely nice and efficient. We both ordered hamburger horseshoes. Not a huge fan of their thin, crinkle cut fries. They are a bit hard to chew. Obviously they are like many restaurants now-a-days cutting back their horseshoe to a pony shoe. A horseshoe, originally was two hamburger patties and is now one.
