I came here with my family on Friday evening. This was one of THE best meals I've had. Everything from the cocktails, the service, the appetizer, the small plates and the entrees. Perfect, could not have been better. The small donuts, the potatoes and the ribeye were my favorites. But we also had the brie, elk chop and wild mushrooms. Our server had told us that there were six donuts that came in an order so we all could have two. Turns out it came with five so we jokingly gave her a hard time. At the end of the meal she brought us a scoop of pistachio gelato and a scoop of biscotti gelato to "make up for her mistake" So sweet of her! Curate is known for its small plate dining. I'd consider the menu New American- there's some unique choices. We ordered a variety including focaccia, roasted Brie, roasted wild mushrooms, Brussels sprouts, Truffle Cacio e Pepe, pomodoro, prosciutto & fig flatbread, and the butcher flatbread. That was 8 dishes for 7 diners. The highlights were the roasted Brie which had great flavor when layering all the components-bread, fig jam, roasted garlic confit, and apple slice. The mushrooms were also very good with a great meaty flavor. The Truffle Cacio e Pepe and the pomodoro are both spaghetti dishes. The truffle dish was more successful- served in a Parmesan lace bowl. The Brussels sprouts were a solid choice- they were nicely crisped and had lots of tasty crisp leaves-the addition of candied walnuts added another interesting flavor to the sprouts and bacon. Of the 2 flatbreads- I'd recommend the prosciutto & fig. The butcher flatbread had a lot of cheese and wasn't a standout. The restaurant is fairly small- so on the weekend I'd go with a reservation. Has a good size bar with an overall hip vibe. The service was mixed- our server was really friendly- but knew absolutely nothing about wine. A couple of my dining partners ordered moscato and were brought Riesling and told it was basically the same- it's not. One diner sent it back for a mixed drink without any issue. They were out of a number of the wines listed on the menu. Overall, I'd say this is a great date spot where you can really embrace sharing the small plates. read more

Sunday Funday!!! Three moms, three generations and incredible food with impressive service. As always, we enjoyed our time together at Curate. The recent menu additions were delicious and the unique atmosphere lends itself to a comfortable relaxed dining experience. Larger parties (9 people) are not a problem for them to accommodate and the food just keeps coming. Favorites include: truffle fries, baked Brie and shrimp and grits. We went for Saturday night birthday dinner for my lady, and they made us feel special right out of the gate with a cool glittery table setting and immediate attention. Our server delivered top shelf service--when asked what she would recommend, she asked back, "Well, do you wanna know what I love here, or more like our best sellers?" We went with what she loves (roasted Brie, Brussels, and the elk steak), and we were highly satisfied. The Brie came with sliced apples and a delicious fig jam, the Brussels were nicely cooked, my lady's seafood scampi was flavorful and balanced, and the elk steak was divine. Perfectly seared, elegantly sliced, and very well complimented by the parsnip puree and blueberry balsamic reduction. Highlight of the meal! Best dish in Springfield so far, but there are many restaurants left to try. The desserts were all delicious--we had the raspberry/strawberry, biscotti, and tiramisu ice creams, the blueberry vanilla cake, and the ricotta doughnuts. Save room for the first two, for sure. My only "complaint", which is really just a difference of opinion, were the mocktails: the bar staff's intent seemed to be to make them taste like alcohol, even though they didn't contain any. There are sure to be customers, like me, who order mocktails precisely because they don't want/like alcohol, so that might be an opportunity to clarify what someone is looking for in their non-alcoholic drink. It could have saved me an "Oh shit, what did I just drink?!?" moment. In short, if there's a better restaurant here, please tell me what it is. For us, Curate blew Velé out of the water in every respect--better food, more generous portions, cool ambiance, superb service, and at a more reasonable price. Thank you for a wonderful meal!! Nice room, great bar, good service. For context: I sat at the bar, dined alone, on a business trip. The roasted mushrooms: Killer. Way Damn Good. The short ribs: Tiny. Much smaller than the picture posted on yelp. Maybe they misunderstood and gave me the child's portion. It was very small. Tasty, but small. They should post the prices on their website. The mushrooms were about $17 or $18 (and worth it). The very short short ribs were about $34. From memory. The by-the-glass wine list was pretty good. Also a plus for dining-a-loners. Reserved an igloo for the Friday after Thanksgiving. We arrive on time at 4:45 and the igloo is freezing cold. They did not prepare for us because the temperature inside the igloo was 49°. (we asked our server to bring out a thermometer because we were being challenged that "it wasn't that bad".. we had winter jackets, gloves, hats, and blankets from our car on us). The website states that they keep it at 60°. Disappointed that the staff did not take the extra step of turning on the space heater before our reservation. Highly suggest they put one more heater in each igloo because once it was on.. you could hardly tell. Luckily the hostess inside was sympathetic that my father-in-law is on blood thinners and it simply just was not going to work out if we sat outside. She found us a table indoors and the service was great and the food was delicious, but definitely felt like a big L on the igloo experience. 4 stars because the service and food were excellent once we got out of the tundra. And because I acknowledge the igloo is a seasonal experience that is not in their norm of operations but something to note and maybe call ahead on to make sure they have the heaters on before you arrive. read more

Excellent atmosphere (a bit noisy but that's on the customers near the bar), and outstanding service from our waitress. Averi was delightful. The food was great overall , with one exception. My wife had a butterscotch martini (first time ever) which she loved. We started off sharing a squash salad, which was loaded with flavor. Fried squash, candied walnuts, mushrooms, spinach, red onions and a hint of cheese. My wife had the lobster roll sliders, which were amazing. The elk wasn't good. I got it rare, and it was barely Luke warm on arrival and buried in a heavy sauce that masked the flavor of the meat. That was a disappointment. Medium rare wouldn't have saved it. We finished off with a gelato flight -strawberry, raspberry and d green tea- which was an amazing end to the meal. We'd come back...but we'd avoid the elk. It isn't the thing to draw us back to the place. I have been searching for a good preparation of that noble beast for 55 years, and have yet to find it. Oh, woe. read more

For appetizers we had focaccia bread, a flatbread pizza known as the butcher and tomato bisque. My wife had the ribeye. The ribeye was cooked perfectly. It came with roasted potatoes and asparagus. The roasted potatoes were crispy but still tender. I had the elk steak that came with au Jus, Parsnip Purée, asparagus, Blackberry Compote. The elk was fairly good. It was tender and the flavor was not over powering. The restaurant itself was comfortable. The decor was rather sedate but nice. Low light atmosphere. It wasn't crowded. It wasn't very loud either. It was very easy to have a quiet conversation. Ask in all I highly recommend this as a good date night spot. read more

Anyway, this has been on my list of places to visit for the longest time but they don't open until late in the afternoon 4pm. This is definitely a place for the late sleepers. So, what's drawn me to it is the outdoor seating. During afternoons you can see people seated under the tree seemingly as happy as people can come. And in the evenings the outdoor light is festive and romantic. While this is a nice place for a girls day out in the afternoon, I'd say it's a perfect first or second date setting. While the menu and the environment inside and out is upscale, so is the eclectic music playing in the background. Classic rock, rap transformed to a soft rhythmic light jazz. This place is not for the penny pinchers unless you were saving for the occasion. I would expect this is the place of local proposals. Will you marry me at this place in the evening would be a winner..,I'm just saying. So we ordered a charcuterie board. All I'll say is NICE! There are two drawbacks to this place. 1. They expect you to stay and visit for awhile and It's clear because the service is good but slow. Drinks and food alike. One in my party ordered and received the shrimp scampi (that she says is good) while the other two of us waited for a pizza (that was tasty, a nice change from commercial pizza.) We'll see if she is done before we get our food (yep, her food was outta here by the time the pizza came.) 2. Portions are small for the prices. Note: Our friend swears the lemonade is lemon water so watch out. Ok...Funny story but true...why did my other half say, "is this the same tile we have in the kitchen?" Ha! But what really put the night and experience over the top was the service. Had reservations at 12:30 for my birthday. We got there a few minutes early and got seated right away, then we waited for about 15 minutes and someone finally stopped by asking if we had been waiting on. She filled up our waters and said she would check who was going to be with us. Waited another 5-10 minutes and nothing so me and my husband decided to get up and leave. I get the restaurant was about half busy, but the servers passed by us multiples times. Really disappointed when this was our first time there. Probably won't ever try it again. I'm okay with waiting 5-10 minutes and being patient, but waiting 15+ is kinda ridiculous when we had reservations.
