The restaurant is small but has a clean look to it. I like the half open kitchen concept. It seemed like every other person thru the door was a regular as waiters, waitresses and bartenders were hugging or handshaking which was nice to see. The filet mignon was amazing and the mash potato cake was perfect. The hipster wedge was great. Loved the extra toppings you don't normally get on a wedge and the dill ranch was perfect. The wife really liked the espresso bc it did not have any creamer/milk/froth. But what stole the show was the cookie dough cheesecake. The best dessert at a restaurant we've ever had. And our waiter, I believe his name was Dennis, was just the right amount of friendly and professional. The appetizers/salads are much bigger than at most restaurant which you don't see often. Have a few times. Good food. Atmosphere probably as good as you will get in a strip mall. Price is pretty atmospheric. Was good, maybe worth it, but can find slightly less quality in town for a whole lot less money. Won't have to worry about rubbing elbows with the riff raff if you decide to eat here. First time visiting. We had an issue with our table and our waitress Shelly was quick to fix it. I will forever be grateful for her kindness and understanding. Food was phenomenal. We had the beef carpaccio which tasted so good! The beef was tender and the oil mix was delicious. I've never had anything like that before. We also ordered the ribeyes. We had a reservations for 7:3 didn't get seated until 8. Sat at the bar had a drink and waited. There was a table open but the hosts didn't seat us there don't know why. Should of said something to her..The table she sat us at was right by the swinging door to the kitchen and bathrooms which was very uncomfortable. So we ended up sitting in the bar area. Went with a large party of 20 for work. We were accommodated with a great drink menu and the bartender made sure we weren't sitting empty. We ordered a plethora of apps and shared through out our 2 long tables. Wings had a smoky but not spicy sauce w hint of lime? So good Shrimp were breaded and fried. Jumbo and crispy. Cheese curds. A staple of Midwest and like many others I've had. Now I ordered a tomahawk style ribeye that I was worried I wouldn't like the blackening. I was wrong I think this was the best steak I've had in Springfield. And I'm going to need a cup of the whiskey cream sauce they added in this steak. read more

I am going to start with the food is definitely one of our favorites. I've never had anything that wasn't a 10/10 from this menu. My complaint has to do with the ambiance. The restaurant is in a strip mall, but the pretentious attitude from the owner is a bit overdone. We have stopped by several times with no reservation but also not a single car in the parking lot, and have been made to feel like we are really asking for a favor to "squeeze us in" when there are no other customers in the restaurant nor any sign of any coming any time soon. The interior is too bright to be that uppity, and you are in a strip mall after all. We roll our eyes and laugh as we escorted to our table. Putting that aside, the small plates are great if you like sharing food (we do) and gives you an opportunity to sample a variety of foods without being overstuffed. The service has always been fantastic and wait staff recite specials that are described almost as good as they taste. They often have specials on dinner menus or wine that allow you to try new things without a big $$$ commitment. They sometimes change up the menu and offer new items to intrigue even their most seasoned customers. The booking through Open Table is usually not a smooth process either. The last two times the owner has called to explain they have a private event scheduled for a multi course meal, but he is accommodating and tries to work you in to their availability. We often share a meal when we dine here because neither of us has the stomach capacity to indulge in two meals, so I have not tried the multi-course meals but they do sound intriguing for those with hearty appetites. Recommendations: 1-Drop the Open Table booking app or figure out how to manage reservations through it so no one is disappointed in the hours not aligning with your current business hours and special events are clearly disclosed in reservations info. 2-Drop the stuffy "let me see if we have something available" when people drop in on an empty restaurant. We aren't fooled by it and enjoy our meal regardless, and we tip your servers well-but no one likes to gravel at a restaurant and feel like they have to beg for a seat. Be proud of a restaurant that serves such delicious meals that scoring a table is enough of a success customers are grateful and happy, not having to walk timidly to a table they don't think they belong at-when no one was going to sit there that night anyway. read more

Completely disappointed after months of wanting to go there. We were sat at a tiny 2 person table infront of the kitchen. The kitchen is loud and it smells, so we smelled like did the cooking when we left. My filet and potatoes tasted like someone dumped salt all over them. Carrots were hard. My friend ordered the special which she was told was a ribeye...but really it was a New York strip. She asked after having a few bites and she was correct. Waiter didn't tell us the correct special and she said she would eat it even though she didn't care for that type of steak. There really just wasn't much apology for the error and when the bill came it was full price. I spoke up and the manager came out but again just lack of concern for the expensive meal but he took $20 off. The waiter charged my credit card with her bill and her bill with mine. He seemed actually mad he had to fix them. I would never go again. Not impressed at all for spending $80. The house wine was $13 a glass which is way too much. It's just not that fancy of a place with high prices, terrible service and just ok food. read more

My family and I really enjoyed checking out this new place in town! It had unique options for tapas and salads and reasonably priced entrees. All portions were very generous. We chose to share three tapas and a soup or salad each and had tons of leftovers. Everyone loved their choices. Tapas: Truffle fries - Good, crispy fries, but lacked truffle flavor except for the bites with pieces of the actual mushrooms. I think these would be better if they added a flavored aioli Cheese curds - EXCELLENT!!! Breading was delicious and they came out hot and melty and with a siracha aioli Calamari - Good, well cooked, not greasy, but nothing out of the ordinary The waiters and waitresses were nice and friendly, but the food took quite a while to come out for how few other people were in the restaurant, and water glasses took a bit to refill Overall, nice, interesting, new place to enjoy a meal on the west side of Springfield! read more

The food and drinks are really good. However of the last 4 times we've gone or tried to go for dinner they have either been "closed for a private event" with only a sign on their door on a Friday night or we've had terrible service. Tonight everything was going well but we finished drinks before dinner was served. The bartender was busy and we patiently waited and about 1/2 way through the food I politely asked if we could get a drink when she had a moment. She waited on many others laughed and joked and filled waters. When we finished our meal she asked if we wanted the same drinks as before and we canceled our drinks closed our tab and left. Needless to say we won't be going back. It seems like good service is only for regulars. read more

This is the restaurant that I attempt to eat at every time I make it through Springfield. From the quality of the bartender, churning out excellent cocktails to the quality of the ingredients from appetizer to entrée. There's no comparison to what Joseph's can do. I have had multiple steaks, including a tomahawk ribeye, and each time the tender and flavorful beef that they prepare, leaves me wanting more. Their seafood is fantastic and if you're a fan of scallops, there, dishes will satisfy any craving. read more

Everything we had was very good! Meatballs, bread, lobster bisque best in Springfield, steak, and lobster. We will definitely put this place in our restaurant rotation! Above was my original post but wanted to do another post because during this COVID-19 we had take out twice and both were amazing! Last week I had the fried chicken and my husband had the salmon. Both were warm by the time we got home and very good! Tonight I had the medallions and he had pork chops again both were warm and delicious. Just when I was done "adding reviews " and criticizing the sparse culinarily efforts of my travels. A place in Central Illinois (Springfield ‍) made me .....pause, and STOP being "that dude". Unbeknownst to the establishment my wife chose THIS place for MY BIRTHDAY! I'm no HATER till HATE SLAPS me. My story.......We got there as the LAST "seated" guest. We were WELCOMED(45 mins before posted closing) on the downside of a promising Friday night by the MANAGER and MIXOLOGIST. MY "open mind " and "benefit of any doubts " were instantly SQUASHED by 2 individuals that NEVER wavered from their commit and presence. The beverages were intellectually explained(and sold) and our appetizers and MEAL were executed and delivered in a manner in which.....I just quite frankly had to applaud. OUR plan is to return and repeat. My gut saz they have a recipe for success and I'm kinda excited about having an option. We were disappointed with the "Skillet cookie." It did not even come in a skillet! The Horseshoes were really only Ponyshoes.

I am somewhat conflicted about poor Joseph's. I tried them a few months ago, and the experience was amazing - they were having a special on their tapas menu, buy one get a second half off, so we tried two of them. The bruschetta was alright, but the italian meatballs were SO heavenly. I dream of those meatballs. I also got salmon (THICCCCCCK salmon) with roasted brusselsprouts. Chef's kiss. Our waitress was nice and fun, the atmosphere was lovely, and the restaurant itself was packed but I never felt ignored or rushed. Overall an amazing experience. But then....we went back recently. Their menus have completely changed, including getting rid of the tapas menu. They did make us the meatballs, but they just...weren't as good. I can't even explain why. All of our entrees were decent, like they had the ability to be good but something was just a little off. My sister got the pad thai noodles and they were so salty they were practically inedible; i got the tso tso chicken and it was just strangely bland; my sister's boyfriend got the pepe pasta, which was also just a little bland. The restaurant itself was completely empty at 5 o'clock on Saturday night, and only three other parties came in by the time we left at 7. Overall, just a little strange. Maybe the second night was just a bad night, maybe the first night was just a really good night? More research is needed. For now, I'll say give it a try. read more
