So many places have a thick sauce that gets gummy within 5 minutes of getting your food, but theirs is flavorful with a bit of a kick that holds up well 5 or 20 minutes after you get your sandwich. I'm not a local - I'm a tourist, visiting the Lincoln sites and looking for lunch. That said, my…read moreimpression of The Stadium Smokehouse is that it's a bar that serves food. As a bar it appeared to be a neighborhood hangout and is probably pretty good. As a BBQ restaurant, not so good. The service was OK, she was fast and attentive. The sides (cole slaw and potato salad) were right out of food service tubs. The French fries were OK. But you come to a BBQ restaurant for what . . . BBQ. The Brisket was probably cooked days ago and kept in the refrig. The waitress said that they slice it and throw it on the flat top to heat it up. Yea, it also dries it out and gives it a hard crust. The smoke ring and taste was OK, you just had to drown it in sauce to soften it up. My wife had smoked turkey and it was exactly the same, good smoke ring, interesting taste, but dry and hard from the flat top. The only thing interesting was the sausage made out of burnt ends that was really good after I fished it out from under all the cheese sauce the drowned it with. Who puts cheese sauce on smoked sausage? Ball park franks maybe, not smoked sausage! The only reason for even two stars was the service and the sausage.

The upstairs seating area is especially lovely and creates a great atmosphere for a relaxed dinner or cocktails with friends. Speaking of cocktails, every one I've tried has been excellent. For appetizers, the Truffle Twists were outstanding. The swirl fries with truffle salt and rosemary crème were absolutely addictive and a must-order. The Holla-Peños were another winner--fresh jalapeños stuffed with creamy brie, goat cheese, and mozzarella, then topped with blueberry compote and a honey-thyme drizzle. It sounds unusual, but the combination really works. The Caesar salad was also very good, with crisp romaine, bacon, housemade croutons, pesto Caesar dressing, parmesan, and shallots. The only dish that missed the mark for me was the Steak & Poblano Peppers. The flavors were fine overall, but the steak had a slightly odd smell that made me hesitate, and it wasn't something I would order again. That one dish aside, I've consistently enjoyed my experiences here. Creative menu items, excellent cocktails, a beautiful upstairs dining space, and several standout dishes keep me coming back. I'll definitely return.

(Hubby asked to bring one home) Sure! did I want it warmed up? I told her no, that was ok, I could just warm it up when I got home. I assumed it was a dessert and not an issue; I didn't even think about it. She packed it up for me and I wouldn't have known anything was amiss had my friends not wanted to see it. I pulled it out and to our astonishment we learned it was frozen solid. I asked our server about it. She said she'd find out how I was supposed to "warm it up." She came back and told me bake it at 350 for 15 min. Hmmm. I bake and this thing looked like it needed to rise, but ok, if that is what I was supposed to.... It was not what needed to be done. Baking created a hard shell around a dough ball with blue goo on top. Nothing red or white about it, btw. Seriously, though - why not just say we don't have any made? It really put a negative spin on the whole evening which, until that point, had been great. Service was wonderful, btw. And the ambience was fantastic. Loved it! Not the goo ball, though. That I'll give a hard pass.
