OMG! We just left Doc's and it was amazing! The Ruben sandwich was the best I'd ever eaten. My husband had the Frisco and commented about the great flavor! We also tried the Salted Caramel Boozy Float and it was delicious!! On a beautiful Saturday afternoon, the restaurant was packed and our server was so attentive, kind and had a great sense of humor! First off, sitting on the town square it has great old America vibes. Secondly and most importantly to my stomach, the food specials were phenomenal! A fun destination for lunch! Good food, and great menu selections, there is truly something for everyone. The people were friendly and efficient. The food was piping hot and quickly prepared. Went here for lunch with the kids after we swam at the Carlinville pool. I got a good chopped salad (saving room for ice cream!) Kids got good looking hamburgers & good fries. The ice cream was great with a lot of choices! So hard to decide. The waiter was so friendly. Place is clean with nice decor of days-gone-by, but tastefully done. It was a fun summer day! We waited and watched while the 2 waitresses repeatedly when to the other 6 tables and gave them food , checking on them, getting them the bill and still we was not acknowledge! Couldn't get a drink to get us started couldn't get a look from anyone let alone put our food order in. Not very welcoming for us out of town folks who drove an hour to get there and spend our money! The ambiance is so way cool with the original not copies of old pharmacy bottles, signs etc from a way gone era. The lunch is perfect for a girl's meetup or for family. The ice cream flight in muffin tins to share is perfect for family. But of course mine all wanted their own hot fudge sundae, milkshake etc...and all old fashioned right out of the old time ice cream shoppe case. They have cherry cokes etc too. Just like when I was a kid. The Tuesday night steak special is really good too if you are there for dinner. Wow!! This place hits all the feels. Great food, great ice cream desserts and excellent service. This is a darling restaurant and soda shop experience just off the famed Route 66 in Girard. The owners are hands on and the quality is evident. I had the chicken and avocado sandwich on a brioche bun and it was scrumptious. My husband had the Pharmacy Patty melt and said it was excellent. My mother enjoyed the Reuben with chili. I also had a chocolate peanut butter malt. This place is so good I'd rate it as a destination for my fellow foodies. Go go go! I'm recommending it to all my Carlinville friends and Carlinville Grand guests. read more

Finally made it to this classic Route 66 stop! At first I thought they just served classic ice cream and soda treats but apparently it's also a restaurant. Unfortunately I didn't bring my appetite - but I did get one of their fizzy ice cream sodas. The one I got was the Velvet Elvis, which was Red Bull and ice cream. Service was great, and would return next time I'm up exploring that way. Recommended to all Mother Road travelers! read more

My teenage kids and I went here for dinner tonight. It was a great experience and we enjoyed our food very much. The music, decor and lighting created a great retro ambience in keeping with the soda fountain concept. The kids ordered burgers (which were not from a frozen patty but hand made)and I had chopped salad with grilled chicken and a cup of chicken tortilla soup. Salad was very fresh and all portions were good too. Be sure to order ice cream because it won't disappoint! The ice cream sandwich with your choice of ice cream (gooey butter cake) A+! Kids had brownie chocolate ice cream on waffle cones . Finally, the service was attentive and plenty of free parking available. We will definitely return to Docs. read more

Doc's Soda Fountain is a "must visit historical place in Girard, IL." on Historic Route 66. It provides a wonderful piece of history for this great little town, as well as serving great ice-cream and lunch items in an awesome nostalgic Coke-a-cola themed shop. The museum is amazing, owners Robert & Renae Ernst have taken great care to preserve the old Mom & Pop one stop Pharmacy shop. I litetally could have spent hours looking at the incredible items and speaking with owner Robert who was so knowledgeable of each item. A wonderful, friendly place, make sure you put a pin on the world map of your hometown!!! read more

Walked in at 3pm for a snack after reading about Doc's all over the internet in relation to Route 66. Two waitresses stayed seated, looked irritated that anyone they didn't recognize showed up. I grabbed some menus since they didn't move. We got the sense that we were not wanted, noticed the boring menu and left. Don't bother stopping. This place is dead. read more

This soda fountain has been in business since 1929, and they still make their sodas the old fashioned way: put syrup in a glass, add some soda water, and then pressure squirt more soda into the glass to mix it all up. They have burgers and sandwiches (they bake their own bread) and other items you would expect in a small town cafe. Doc's is on Route 66 so it attracts travelers. Plus it has Coke memorabilia, and it has a fascinating free pharmacy museum. And the man who owns Doc's made all the draperies for the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library -- he has a display cabinet showing his handiwork. read more

Today was the second time we stopped at Doc's on the way from Springfield to St. Louis and we will continue to always put it on our agenda every time we travel through. Wonderful cafe menu if you need lunch, but let's face it we go for the sodas and the ice cream! Tonight the kids went for ice cream and five of us were able to get a cup of ice cream or a cone for $11. Black Cherry is remarkable! They have a awesome museum collection of older Cola items to browse through while there as well. For those with kids, there is a park across the way that has a playground that the kids can play on and get some exercise if you are traveling. read more

Stopped in here on the way home from Springfield the service was great. The old fashion sodas were to die for. I had the cherry, the wife and son had the chocolate, and my daughter had the root beer they were all spectacular. We had grilled cheese and chili for lunch. The grilled cheese was on homemade bread and were delicious. The chili was homemade and good also. Lots of cool history in here in the Pharmacy museum. read more

Last time I was here I talked to doc. He was a spry elderly third generation pharmacist. The is a classic ice cream shop filled with generations of pharmaceutical paraphernalia from years past the ice cream parlor. There's a lot of history here and also some great ice cream treats. There's also a nice fast order menu. I'm partial to the chocolate soda. read more
