Good food, great service, literally the WORST lighting of anywhere I've ever been. Not just the worst restaurant lighting, I mean, the worst lighting of any place I've ever been in my entire life. Great food and great service. Casual dining. Hidden gem. Owner greets patrons and is hands on with the business. I have never had a meal there I didnt like. Boom Shrimp app is great. Pork chop dinner is my go to. Portions are more than enough. The two pork chop dinner will give me two lunches. I did order the chicken gizzard (I know some think they're gross) horseshoe. The worst service ever! It took 20minutes to ask what we wanted to drink and another hour and 30 for dinner to come. The manager actually sent our first dinner to his friends that just arrived and sat right next to us. They looked like they just swallowed crow when they got it. Manager looked at us and laughed. Had an outstanding meal last night. The service was prompt & courteous. The rolls were a great place to start ... pulled from the oven at the right time, they were awesome (I've made my own rolls for a number of years, these were spot on). The Ribeye I had was outstanding (they source a lot of their meat from Magro's out of Springfield). It was huge, yet surprisingly tender for the size. One of our dinner companions opted for the pork chop. It also was huge, but grilled to a "T" -- from my side of the table it looked like a great option to the monster sitting on my plate. Owner Josh was on hand to make sure things were running smoothly. If you're looking to get out of Springfield (and the chain restaurants) or are just in the surrounding area of Thayer, you owe it yourself to take a short trip and check out Mick & Mary's. I believe it will be one of the best meals you've had in a while. Take cash to get a discount; the credit card machine is down temporarily. We went to Mick & Mary's for the first time and it was worth the drive from Godfrey area. The catfish fritters were the best I have ever had, chicken livers were amazing. They give you so much food that we had to take it home and had lunch the next day. The rolls and homemade butter were delicious and they make their own salad dressing. The spaghetti doesn't have enough sauce for my taste, but it felt like a free extra meal anyway! The service is not super quick but it was worth the wait. Staff was very friendly. read more

We went to M and M for New Years Eve dinner. I got the Ribeye. Might have been the best steak I've ever eaten. Grilled to perfection.... My Girl had the chicken dinner - one of her favorites .... But that steak, with all the fixins that are standard with yr meal: salad, potato, fresh bread, spaghetti , a vegetable medley and a choice of cottage cheese or apple sauce .... I choose both .... Come hungry! My first time here. They just reopened after a lengthy closure due to a fire. Well, the place sparkles, tables are spacious and spaced nicely. The bar is separated from the dining room. Both rooms have plenty of TVs playing sports. I had the Chicken (half) Dinner and he had the whole catfish. Each dinner came with a salad, choice of potatoe, choice of apple sauce or cottage cheese and a side of spaghetti with meat sauce and a vegetable side of corn. Big time food ensemble! Best fried dinner I have been to. Coating was thin, like flour not a batter. Bolongese was seriously meaty and good, not sweet. There are also soups and salads on the menu - so needed these days. Service was prompt, attentive, smart, helpful, just right. They have a full bar. If you want to bring your own wine corkage is $10 . Great for couples families or groups. read more

We were looking for a restaurant off the beaten path and outside of our normal and WOW, did we find a great one. Our waitress Sarah was that great kind of friendly and helpful. I had the pork chops and my wife had the chicken breast for our main entree. But the hit of the evening was our appetizer the fried mushrooms. The portions were extraordinarily huge and very tasty. We have lunch all set for tomorrow. I'll definitely be coming back. read more

What's in Thayer, you ask? Come to this place and find out! After my first visit I vow to come back and try every steak they serve. I had the bacon wrapped filet, which was absolutely without fault. We were a huge party of 20 or so people and our waitress was spectacular. She (and the owner, I believe) were mindful not to put the beers down where the baby could grab them (she's at that age). Fried chicken here is very good. Be aware if you order Cajun chicken. I was thinking it was a dry rub when it was really drenched in buffalo wing sauce. Not what I was expecting, but, I should have asked. You get tons of sides and won't leave there hungry. read more
