Yummy Crab??? More like Crummy Crab!!! Well, we started off with crab cakes and hush puppies. Not bad. Then came the raw oysters on the half shell. I'm not a big oyster eater, but I'm pretty sure the smell shouldn't overwhelm the table. I managed to get two down, but the third one almost put my crab cake back on my plate. I guess I shouldn't have eaten any, but I tried. I had catfish and shrimp with fries. The catfish wasn't bad, but it was a little greasy. I felt bad for the server though. This place is a Springfield favorite. They don't skimp on the seasonings here. The seafood boil bags are loaded with spices that make your mouth sing. However if you're a corn and potatoes person plan to pay extra, they are no so generous with those. Prices at the yummy crab are comparable to others in this market and while there are always people there it's never over crowded. Here is the deal; the food was quite tasty and zero complaints on service BUT...overpriced for central Illinois seafood. My fiancé was born and raised on coastal shores so she is the seafood connoisseur in the family and I take her opinion as a large factor when I review seafood we eat together. The restaurant is less than 6 months old and the presentation, flavors and easy menu ordering are all great but we believe the prices need to be $2-4 cheaper per plate. Now, I understand that may not appear as a large decrease to a customer or potentially too much for an owner but the difference in a $18.99 seafood meal compared to a $15.98 seafood meal (multiplied by number of guests you brought with you) can be substantial. We both ordered the main crab legs entree, which comes with shrimp, potatoes, corn and boiled egg (one more buttered versus one highly seasoned) with hush puppies on the side. The boiled egg in the bag seemed out of place but the potatoes were outstanding. The crab and shrimp were fresh and delicious but my fiancé said, "At this price I can make us larger portions at home that are just as good". Understandably, not everyone has a coastal partner in their home to pull this off...I simply want to give readers a full picture before they swing on in to the Yummy! read more

Took my son and his family(2 grandkids) and we had a wonderful meal and fun with the robot!! I had the catfish and shrimp. Absolutely loved it. Food was loved by all and have to mention the staff. My husband and I decided to try a new place for seafood boil and was not disappointed. The menu is diverse including multiple types of crab, mussels, fresh oysters and lobster. The fact they have a lunch menu with small boil portions is a big plus as this give patrons a chance to try many dinner items at a lunch price. I tried the lunch Snow Crab Legs with the Garlic Butter sauce at medium heat. They all come with a potato, corn on the cob and a hard boiled egg in the bag. We also tried an appetizer of the hush puppies. When they came out they crispy and fresh and were fantastic. The perfect size and flavor. They also offer different dipping sauces as well. Then the bags came and the choice of the sauce was perfect. It compliments the seafood and gives it a great flavor. My husband had the shrimp with Cajun, garlic butter together and it was seasoned well. Last, we tried the Thai Rolled Ice cream and I definitely recommend this! It is a wonderful end to the meal. All in all, i think the Yummy Crab has something very special in flavor and freshness to bring to Springfield. We definitely will be back and recommend it to all our friends! read more

Came on a Wednesday night around 6pm. We were seated and had our order taken right away. The shrimp and crab boils were delicious - highly recommend the Cajun spice! First visit, and we'll plan to come back! In our party of four, two got fried baskets, one got fried rice and one of the steamed seafood bags. All reported to be good. The quality of the seafood was better than the others in the area. I personally had the seafood bag.--a seafood meal prepared and served in a plastic bag. It seems strange but it is actually a perfect method and presentation. You can choose from an extensive list of seafood or a combo. I chose shrimp and it was delicious! Next you choose the sauce, butter and garlic, cajun, Lemmon-pepper or " the mix," which is all three together. "The mix".....definitely choose "the mix!!!! I ordered medium heat/spice which was perfect. The shrimp was large and firm, easy peel shrimp. The bag also included a potato and corn, which absorb the sauce very nicely. A surprising addition is a hard boiled egg. I wasn't sure what to think about that, but it was SO good! It was perfectly cooked and flavorful from the sauce. My bag was the only messy dish in the bunch---but a fun kind of messy! They supply you with a bib, gloves, a bucket for your shells and lots of wet-wipes---all perfect equipment for this culinary adventure. Oh, and we also ordered a side of hush puppies, which were very good. A nice size portion to share, they were tender, crisp and had a nice, sweet flavor. Since they are new, they currently don't have a liquor license. The server reported they expect to have their license in a couple of months. A beer with this yummy seafood will make it even better. This building has been through so many owners over the years. This menu is unique and could finally be a "keeper" for the Capitol City area. We'll definitely be back. read more

When I travel for work I am always looking for somewhere new and interesting to eat. I stumbled here via Yelp as this place just opened earlier this month. I love seafood, don't mind getting dirty hands and I certainly can't resist Cajun flavor so tried it I did. They did not disappoint. The prices were very reasonable and the service was great too. Charlene was very attentive and made sure this girl had plenty of sanitizer wipes and two pair of gloves. (You can get by without them until the crab legs) The portion was great I was impressed by the size of the crawfish and shrimp. It was very worth giving it a try and I will be back when I am in town again. P.S., I finished my dinner and had to try the Thai Ice Cream Rolls. I was full of great decisions if I do say so myself. If you don't mind playing with your food or wearing a bib, try it. Also would make for a great icebreaker on a first date! read more

Wow! Great food. I had a pound of green mussels and a pound of black mussels in the steamer bags. The corn and potato that came with it were awesome. The mussels were huge! Big chunks of garlic in the sauce. Such great flavors and they were so friendly. I did it as takeout and it was all packed well and had everything I needed when I got back to the hotel to eat it.
