You really can't go wrong here. Their menu is huge be it breakfast selections or lunch and dinner. I've been here twice in the span of five days. Today I had the cabbage soup, which is incredible, a tuna salad sandwich on toasted cinnamon bread, and hash browns. An enormous meal!! Then came back later and got the cherry cheesecake togo that was to die for!! The other day I had a BBQ beef sandwich which was quite good. Whatever they serve it's really tasty. Came here for breakfast a few times. Place seems to have a regular group of customers in their assigned seats. Easily find plenty of meals on the big menu to satisfy most everyone. Waitstaff is good about checking in on our needs and a big breakfast can be found around $10-15. Superb service!!! There were multiple people offering to get refills, to take away dirty dishes, or asking if we needed a to-go container. The food was good too! The side salad was very very plain, which I preferred as a picky eater, but my mom wanted more variety on it. I got the BBQ Beef Deluxe Sandwich and it was delicious. I felt pretty stuffed during the meal, so I ate the sandwich later that day- I ate it cold and it was perfect!! Honestly, I preferred it cold. My boyfriend got the breakfast burrito and said it was pretty average. My mom got the shrimp stir fry and didn't quite care for it. I had it for leftovers later (this one I warmed up) and it wasn't horrible, just not my favorite either. This was my second time here. The first time I got Chicken and Waffles and it was so plain and I loved it! There are some good reviews mentioning the extensive menu, and that should have been the red flag. Usually a restaurant with a big menu has a lot of mediocre offerings. They're making too many different dishes to really excel at most of them. Sorry Star 66, one visit was enough. read more

Whole in the wall gas station restaurant with delicious food! Greek Skillet with added veggies and sub with hash brown instead. It's overly greasy though, so my only tip is to go easy on the grease and salt! Otherwise, very delicious. Great find! Normally, food is great! Tonight..not so much. Ordered meatloaf with salad . My salad was literally a plate of lettuce, with one giant tomato wedge plopped on top. Next table that got salads had full salad with cucumbers, cheese, etc. Then the next table, same thing. When our server asked if I was done with it, (I didn't even bother putting the dressing on it) I told her I didn't want it, as it was literally a plate of plain lettuce. Meatloaf came out and the plate was a serving of gravy and couldn't see anything else on the plate. Meatloaf wasn't good, once found it. So I paid $15 for a plate of plain lettuce and a platter of gravy. I was able to eat the mashed potatoes, that was it. When the server heard me comment on the neighboring table's salad, she announced to the entire back end of the dining area, that nothing was ready for salads until after ours were made. I would have waited 5 minutes to have an actual salad, not a plate of lettuce. Nor did she offer to make me a new one. Husband's plate of chicken fried steak was also a mound of gravy. Server made sure to announce 3 different times God bless our Christmas being very loud almost like she was trying to embarrass us. Little did she know, meds I take affect my food intake and tend to make me a little nauseous. Server was borderline rude and obnoxious, and though she did get tipped, (because its crazy that servers are allowed to be paid much less than minimum wage) I would have tipped way more had she been a little more mindful of the fact I was clearly not satisfied with the food we received. read more

We were visiting Springfield, Illinois, and looking for a good place for dinner. Star 66 Café had an excellent rating and a very extensive menu. It is attached to a gas station, but don't let that dissuade you. This 24-hour restaurant is cozy, and the setting is very much diner style. There is also a big dessert case filled with homemade pies and other tasty items right up front when you enter the restaurant. We showed up around 6:30 p.m. on a Saturday; the place was packed! Service was quick and helpful. Our food came out quickly and was hot and extremely flavorful. We had a fried chicken plate, chicken parmesan, fried catfish, and a club sandwich. A slice of banana cream pie was phenomenal! I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for delicious, well prepared food at a reasonable price. read more

We were looking for breakfast and wanted to try a new spot. We had heard good things about Star 66 Cafe. They share a building with a gas station and the outside is a bit sketchy and needs cleaning. The inside is better, though. We were seated quickly and our server was prompt in taking our beverage order. Having never been here, it took a few minutes to look over the menu. I decided on bacon, eggs, and biscuit with gravy. DH ordered the strawberry French toast with bacon and eggs. Everything was delicious and my eggs were cooked perfectly. Prices are very reasonable. #31/2023 No changes at all the little old Cafe hooked up to the truck stop still fantastic after all these years. Only few changes to the menu since I reviewed 2 years ago the giant Polish sausage sides is gone not enough people ordered it so it's only regular sausage now they don't carry the smoke sausage. They still packed the house big time especially during peak hours on the weekends be prepared to wait for a table they move them as quick as they can. It's still a place you wouldn't expect great riddles like when you drive by as you see the outside of the building but can't touch a book by its cover. They do have daily specials and a gigantic menu that has not changed. Because it's own bad Greeks and you can always tell when it's owned by greets cuz they have everything including the kitchen sink on the menus page after page LOL If you're coming for St Patrick's Day they will have corned beef and cabbage they also have it every Wednesday as a special too according to the waitress interesting. Next time I'm coming up by Springfield I might have to roll in if it's a Wednesday and get my CB &C on. And yes while it's in a truck stop it is very huge with the locals for years because of the excellent service in the great food. Today I came in and ordered some blueberry crepes didn't want any powdered sugar or whipped cream cuz blueberry was plenty on its own. They were nice light and fluffy I also opted for some sausage links everything tasted just fine I'm not changing my review it's still a five bar of stars for a long time in my opinion keep up the great work. Excellent, good food and hot coffee, exactly what you'd expect from a diner. Casual atmosphere full of locals enjoying food and friendly conversations. We enjoyed fluffy pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon, hash browns and lots of black coffee. The wait staff worked together bringing our food hot and never let our coffee cups go dry. I was really concerned by the appearance of the exterior because it was connected to a gas station/truck stop. But once you enter, it is a bustling, family diner. I could tell I picked the right place, because it was packed and people seemed happy. Service was excellent, friendly, and fast. Soda refills were done quickly and old dishes removed just as fast. In a display case at the entrance, a large assortment of pies welcomed us and looked mouthwatering. I tried the Key Lime Pie. It was so-so. I ordered the Boneless Pork Chop Special (Cajun) which came with soup or salad. I chose the cabbage soup. And it was one of the best soups I have had in the past few years. Highly recommend it! I could have ordered bowls and bowls of it and been plenty satisfied. What shocked me were the prices. I received 3 (Three!) boneless pork chops and a soup for only $12.99. I was expecting 1 or 2 maximum in this economy. The pork chops were a good size, a little dry on the inside, but the flavor on the outside was decent. My coworker purchased the horseshoe and was impressed that there were 2 cheeseburger patties (instead of just 1) piled high with cheese fries. Restrooms were in the gas stations and were not horrible (but not the cleanest). I highly recommend this restaurant based off their large portions, service, and prices. read more
