Nice breakfast place. My friend Dale comes here once a week to meet up with siblings. Love that they can do this here to catch up on weekly events at a central location. Very clean and plenty of air conditioning no matter wherever you seat yourself. Wait staff attentive. Had the B&G it was average imo for a cafe. I didn't set an very high expectation for breakfast. In general all breakfast places are pretty much the same exact food. The only differences being location and service. That being said this place that's probably a two person operation that serves all the basic breakfast styled foods with a small menu. Waited 45 minutes for an omelet and bacon, will never return. Called they said to drive thru in 20 minutes, went and they said it was not done yet, so had me drive around again at this point it was 40 minutes, waited 5 more and left. Boom! One of the last few real mom and pop diners in town, the Sunrise Cafe slings cheeseburgers and fries about ten steps above big chain fast food. Those smashed down patties and string onions coupled with that melty American Cheese are just what the doctor ordered. I believe his name was Doctor Treatyourself. Get a coke with that good crunchy ice and you're all set. They've got a drive through too! (Just call ahead cuz that's for pickup) Tip your servers well. Food was absolutely horrible.. I order a half order of biscuits and gravy and TALK ABOUT STINGY!!! They put two little dollops of gravy on a biscuit! And the gravy had a cinnamon aftertaste.. and the biscuit where like sponges Not to mention it was almost 30 bucks for two half orders and two strips of burnt black bacon... Deciding we still weren't ready to cook our own breakfast in 2016 yet, we headed to #eatlocal again on January 2nd at the Sunrise Cafe. It had really been a lot of years since I'd been here, but I still have fond memories of breakfast with friends after fun nights on the town! I ordered the same thing as the morning before, two over easy eggs, bacon, hash browns, and toast. This plate of food was not as successful as at the Parkway. The eggs were under and still had some slimy whites around the yolk, the hash browns were flavorless, and the toast (not pictured again) wasn't toasted. The bacon was good and crispy though! Mike really enjoyed his chicken fried steak, which I tried a bite of and it was delicious. We also got a side of cheese sauce so we could try it. $1.75!! That's crazy. It was a decent size cup full, but no way we could eat it all with the small amount of potatoes so it went to waste. They really should offer a smaller, less expensive amount! All and all, the food was decent and the service was friendly and prompt, so I'd return and try another meal. read more

Exactly what I expected... This is an older diner, not the cleanest place, but the food is good. We had stopped in during the afternoon a few weeks ago while running errands and both of us wanted breakfast food. I ordered my standard; two eggs fried hard, bacon, sausage, and hash browns. The eggs and hash browns with hot sauce were amazing, the bacon was good, but I personally did not care for the sausage. I live to support the locally owned businesses and Sunrise Cafe have never let me down as they serve some pretty darn tasty food but had a recent experience that may keep us from returning. Stopped by over the weekend around 130pm; waitress was excellent, I wish I had gotten her name. Very attentive and super nice tall thin black gal that was upbeat (said she woke up at 4am to get to work that morning) and just an all around pleasant woman. Our food was great and came out on time and without issue. The restaurant was beginning to empty out around 2pm and a guy came out on the floor to clean. I get clearing and cleaning tables, or filling salt shakers and sugar packets but not floors. This big farm boy picked up the indoor door mat and turned it so all the dirt fell out onto the floor. Dust and debris were in the air and swirling all around the nearby tables. And that would be just where we were seated. What the?? We quickly paid the bill and left the restaurant as we could not finish our food knowing the contents of a dirty mat just went airborne all over us. One would think staff would wait until fewer customers were in the place, or maybe use a sweeper on the mat instead of physically picking it up and standing it on end but this was not the case. Sunrise Cafe is a great place for a simple meal. Breakfast lunch or dinner. The cooks wear paper hats and there's always at least three servers. The food is hot and simple!! In ten years I've never had a bad experience, but sometimes it takes a little long ti get your food when there busy but that's how it goes the way I see it. read more

I believe you review based on what the place is....a diner, a no frills, no nonsense, get in there and eat your grease diner. That being said... I've never had a bad meal here. We've had great burgers, chicken, horseshoes, walleye, and numerous breakfasts. Food is always hot, freshly cooked, and we even have a favorite waitress (Anne) - what a pleasant person, knows her job, and keeps your table taken care of! Pretty run of the mill diner but staff is pretty rude. Don't expect any southern hospitality that you find at the other diners in town. Hamburgers are pretty good and food is very affordable. But this is the kind of place where staff might spit in your food before bringing it to you. read more

I don't get it. I felt like I did my research before we came to Springfield. First let me say the bacon was the best I've had in a long time. It was super salty and I love it like that. Everything else, not good. The biscuits are not homemade. They were super super dry and just odd. You could tell they must have like little beads of fake butter baked into them but they really were disgusting. The gravy is made from a mix so that makes it average or less than average. And it is just white gravy, no sausage in it. The chicken fried steak is just something that arrives frozen and they fry it up. Again, average. I asked for my eggs super well done and even before she brought them out, she asked them to put them back on the grill because she didn't think they looked well done and even after they arrived they were still orange and soft on the inside. And mostly the service just wasn't good. The waitress asked me if I wanted more tea, she walked away, and then never came back. Also, a ton of food it was piled up waiting to be delivered. It was out there for at least five minutes. Most breakfast food is best served hot. I expected more. I expected more things that were homemade, I expected better service, I expected hot and delicious food. We won't come back. You would do better at Denny's then coming here. Btw they serve Pepsi products including mug root beer and they serve Luzianne T, sweet and unsweet. That tea is delicious. read more

The service was horrible. We sat outside and I had to go in to get a menu after 15 minutes with no waitress(even though she saw us go outside). Then had to go in and ask to refill my water after I waited again for 15minutes. We ordered at 10am did not get our food until 11am. Food was just ok. I got an omelet (nothing special). We then tried to pay. We waited in line for 10minutes and no one would take our money. We ended up just leaving the check and money on the table because it took far too long. They didn't apologize for the wait or lack of service. We overheard the waitress tell one table when they sat down that it would be at least 40 minutes until they got food. read more

A co-worker of my wife's brought a to-go order of chichen fry steak into work and it looked so good she had to have one. She picked me up and took me to brunch. I ordered the breakfast shoe. The portions were large, the eggs cooked perfectly and they offer a half sausage \ half cheese sauce option which I ordered. I cannot believe how long it took to eat a simple breakfast here. It took over an hour for our food to arrive once we placed the order, and there were items missing. I had to remind the waitress three times before I got the rest of my food. I know they have a disclaimer on their menu that they make everything to order so it takes longer, but there has to be a limit! I've worked the line in more than a couple breakfast places, so I know it can be done faster, WAY faster. When we finally got the food it was so-so. Things have only gotten BETTER since my last review. Was rolling through Springfield on the way to Chicago and stopped by to grab a quick lunch with my sister. Our server was so personable and attentive. Just a very sweet soul. I wish I had gotten her name. The experience and food was not much different than our first (very satisfying) visit. Stopped through here while we were in town. It was pretty much what I expected with a small diner atmosphere. We had two young kids with us, 6 months and 5 years and our waitress was nothing but helpful. The food arrived quickly and was awesome and the check in offer of a free appetizer was that much better.
