Biscuits and Gravy

Food was absolutely horrible.. I order a half order of biscuits and gravy and TALK ABOUT STINGY!!! They put two little dollops of gravy on a biscuit! And the gravy had a cinnamon aftertaste.. and the biscuit where like sponges Not to mention it was almost 30 bucks for two half orders and two strips of burnt black bacon... I will say the waitress was sweet, but I 100% don't recommend getting the biscuits and gravy (also the place was sticky and dirty)

will never eat here again. racism leaves a bad taste in my mouth

I've eaten here hundreds of times. The food is good, not great, diner food. Today the owner posted a picture claiming that Michelle Obama is a man. Never Again

Deciding we still weren't ready to cook our own breakfast in 2016 yet, we headed to #eatlocal again on January 2nd at the Sunrise Cafe. It had really been a lot of years since I'd been here, but I still have fond memories of breakfast with friends after fun nights on the town! I ordered the same thing as the morning before, two over easy eggs, bacon, hash browns, and toast. This plate of food was not as successful as at the Parkway. The eggs were under and still had some slimy whites around the yolk, the hash browns were flavorless, and the toast (not pictured again) wasn't toasted. The bacon was good and crispy though! Mike really enjoyed his chicken fried steak, which I tried a bite of and it was delicious. We also got a side of cheese sauce so we could try it. $1.75!! That's crazy. It was a decent size cup full, but no way we could eat it all with the small amount of potatoes so it went to waste. They really should offer a smaller, less expensive amount! All and all, the food was decent and the service was friendly and prompt, so I'd return and try another meal.

Was looking for place for breakfast and saw the Sunrise Cafe. I ordered the county fried steak breakfast with fried eggs and home style fries. My breakfast was outstanding and very filling. I would highly recommended this place!

Chicken fried steak and tater tots crispy on the outside with delicious gravy. Couldn't be better. Other photos do not show how inviting a place it is.

Food was great. Large portions. Restaurant clean and cozy. I did have to ask for drink refills. Other than that great place.

Great little diner with good service. I always get an omelet and it's always good, hubby gets a horseshoe and likes it. Waffle is good too!

Thankfully we still were able to get one cider, and they had a selection of other beers. The cider was tart and refreshing, and I really like the berry mocktail, which had ginger beer, and a mix of berries in it. As for food, the Nashville hot chicken sandwich came with a lot of heat which was great. I got the dry rub version, which is spicer than the saucy version. The horseshoe sandwich is a local favorite, which is an open faced sandwich with sliced bread topped with meat (we got the angus beef), fries, and cheese sauce. It was quite heavy and creamy because of all the sauce. Overall we enjoyed our meal and our server was very friendly, although service was on the slower side.

We came here on a Sunday before a matinee at the Hoogland -- full of hope, hungry, and maybe a…read morelittle too optimistic. The building is beautiful, the location is perfect, and we thought, "Hey, maybe those bad reviews were just people having a bad day." Spoiler alert: they were not. Service started strong. We were seated right away, and they even brought coloring pages for our kids -- a nice touch that gave us false hope. Then the food arrived, and it was like watching a plot twist in a bad movie. I ordered the Buffalo Chicken Pony Shoe. It came out looking like someone microwaved a bag of frozen chicken tenders and tossed them in buffalo sauce for moral support. The cheese sauce might have been homemade -- it was grainy enough to make me believe someone whisked it themselves -- but there was barely any. Also, who hides the cheese under the fries? That's the star of the show! I had to beg for more, and even then it arrived lukewarm, much like my excitement for the meal. My wife ordered the Pork Schnitzel with "spaetzle." Except it wasn't schnitzel; it was a pork cutlet that had clearly seen the inside of a freezer longer than most people's leftovers. And the "spaetzle"? Nope. Straight-up spaghetti noodles. The mushroom sauce tasted like it came straight from a can labeled Cream of Disappointment. Two of the kids got cheese pizza -- or as I like to call it, "Frozen Circle of Regret." My son's "chips" were somehow both soggy and chewy, a texture I didn't even know existed. Frying them until they're crunchy shouldn't be rocket science, but here we are. Everything was bland, flavorless, and missing any sign of seasoning. The best dish of the entire meal? My daughter's burger on her Pony Shoe -- mostly because it resembled real food. And just to add a little flair, nearly every plate was dusted with dried parsley. Because, of course, nothing says fine dining like sprinkling dried parsley on frozen food. This place has serious potential -- it's got the space, the charm, and the perfect downtown vibe. But if your secret ingredient is "frozen," no amount of parsley is going to save you.

Tanja brought us some pita bread and carrot salad to start. That was complementary. We had a couple of cocktails from the bar, which were very good. The beef they use for this is really tender and delicious. We cannot wait to return to this lovely Ugly Restaurant. :)

One of the reasons I love Mediterranean food is its use of spices and infused flavors. A complimentary carrot salad mixed with yogurt was served with warm pita bread. This was not good, frankly, and was the start of what would end up being an underwhelming experience. I ordered the mixed sampler platter for an appetizer. The only thing worth eating was the falafel and the cigar borek (fried breaded cheese). My entrée was the chicken shish kabobs that were accompanied by rice, a small chargrilled tomato, a chargrilled pepper and an onion salad. The chicken lack any kind of seasoning. Even salt would've help. This was probably the most bland Mediterranean food I've ever experienced. The presentation was grade A but the lack of flavor resulted in a Grade C. Even the baklava was bland. For $60 (including tip) I could've had a much more fulfilling meal.
