Good food. Waitresses so very nice! Nice quiet place to have lunch! No one hurries you along!

Went to Lime Street Cafe for a business lunch. It's an interesting ambience- the decor has a 70s steakhouse vibe- dark paneling abounds. We were tucked into a corner and although the server was friendly- she was busy- and I think she may have forgotten about us. The lunch crowd certainly skewed to an older demographic. My dining partner had the BLT that has what looked to be homemade chips as the side. I went with the burger- which comes with steak fries. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't special in any way either. We had sodas and the bill was less than $30, so it's a relatively inexpensive lunch. If you are going out with your parents or grandparents this might be a solid choice. I'm giving it three stars because it was average- not bad- not exceptional. read more

We sat in the lounge. You can still get everything from a reasonably priced sandwich to a full meal. The atmosphere is unique in Springfield, with low ceilings and live music some nights. The wait staff were slammed as the place was packed, but we weren't in a hurry. read more

I envy those of you who have had a good experience with this place. I have not had such good luck. Over the past 4 years, each time my friend has decided she wants to eat here, there has been a problem with the reservations. Every time! It's got to the point where I hate the idea of dining here. The last time we ate here (didn't bother to ask for a reservation) we were made to feel as though we were a nuisance, they were visibly put out that we didn't have a reservation but sat us immediately, this was a Saturday night and they weren't that busy (although they repeatedly told us they were). We ordered to simple items from the menu and our food was served 90 minutes later, the waitress said she felt bad about the poor service and comped us a round of drinks. I don't dress like a bum, nor am I rude to the wait staff. I tip well and am not demanding. Over the past 4 years, I am always confused about the attitude. Always flustered and never a good time to accept a reservation.. Every time! This makes me wonder if they're attempting to create an illusion of exclusivity or if it's just poor training by the management. Either way, I am done trying to do business with them. There are too many other places to eat than this place. It's a shame to see a place deteriorate so much. Springfield doesn't have too many places to eat that aren't filthy. read more

The Minestrone soup (so good!) is oddly full of sausage and butter beans, but it is absolutely delicious!!! The people in my group who ordered the special- seafood salad- got a plate beautifully loaded with fresh fruit and salad. The fried shrimp (special) were large and crispy and looked wonderful but I didn't ask how it tasted. My chicken salad sandwich was fresh and very tasty but it was served in a scoop or something on my bread- which created kind of a softball shaped nugget in the center of the bread. Since it was fresh chicken, it was great- but not squishy and spreadable after the fact. Im nitpicking- I spread it out the best I could and I enjoyed lunch there very much. Don't go in a hurry though. We spent an hour and 40 minutes for lunch. read more

Full disclosure - This review will be a tad long, but worth the read! I have been to quite a few cafes but this slice of Americana was not what I expected! The food was great, if that is all you know or care about then you can stop reading at this point, but I am going to share my experience. I had a bowl of chili when I first arrived and then when my partner in crime showed up I ordered an American burger with steak fries and she had a reuben with steak fries; all of the above was outstanding!! All too often, going to eat at a restaurant has become fast paced and forgettable in our current culture, but today was an exception. I arrived earlier than my fiancé as we had separate missions today before getting a bite to eat. I spent about an hour just sitting at the bar observing and people watching...the ambience was fantastic. The memorabilia on the walls is a combination of The Beatles, American culture, Irish culture, and remembrance placards to those regulars who helped establish and shape the character of the restaurant. Mustard and ketchup in real jars, miniature salt and pepper shakers, real linens, wine glasses that hung from the brass racks above the bar - perfect! The owner (I am assuming) was tucked away in his office carefully hidden behind the mirrored wall but current regulars/friends would ask the bartender if he was around and then go pop in to say hello. The bartender and one waitress on duty were having the type of conversation I could listen to for hours; they knew nearly everyone who walked in by their first name, what they drank, wanted to eat, etc. The music rotating through the 5 tray old school CD player was perfect, as a combination of Fleetwood Mac and Carly Simon era nostalgia was drenching the place in a time gone by. I cannot express enough how perfect it was to feel as if I was immersed in an experience that took me back to my parent's generation - people mattered, conversation mattered, a way of life mattered - the food was just an added bonus! read more

Lime Street has a valued history and loyal locals who wish, like me, their previous standards of service would come back. They are definitely short staffed. The poor servers are running around with bar orders. But the kitchen is hurting for help and the food quality has dramatically gone down. The bartender had 3 at the bar and no floor manager in sight. We asked if the food would be a long wait and was quickly told no. I wish the server would have been honest. My date felt like we were being hostage. And other tables have waited for their check for a very long time. read more

The server wasn't super friendly. It was too dark for my mom to read the menu. The food wasn't hot and was flavorless. I got Alfredo and it was very bland. My mom's Reuben had sparse sour kraut and the toast was burnt. It was overpriced for the quality of the food. The side salad was decent, had varied veggies but no cheese. My sister got the seafood stuffed shrimp that per the menu comes with cocktail sauce. It came out with a side of ranch which is an odd pairing with seafood. read more

I go here for two reasons: 1: The Turkey Club with cranberry sauce (which is super great) 2: It feels like I'm sitting in Cheers or something. Aesthetically this place is dated and dark, in a way that Gordon Ramsey would hate, and in a way that makes me sooo happy. I really enjoy being the youngest dude in the whole place by at least 20 years. Is the service USUALLY bad? Yes. Is it unbearably slow? Yes. Is it dusty and dated and stuck in different era? Yes. Came in for lunch with a large party. We waited awhile for the waitress to take our orders and the food took a long time to come. Everyone enjoyed their lunch, however. My Fettuccine Alfredo came with a salad and was absolutely delicious!!! I loved the Mushrooms and Tomatoes in the Alfredo Sauce. I asked for it to be lightly sauced and it was perfect! The Horseshoes were good but not the best we have had. Everyone would have preferred the cheese sauce to be over the fries instead of on the bottom of the plate. The BLT was huge and good. I've been here a few times, either for a drink or a meal by myself, always with quick and tasty results. So I recommended to my co-workers we go here for lunch one day. Five of us got a table, and we were in for an epic wait. Wait to place an order, wait for food, wait for the check. The place wasn't even busy! Lime Street is always has older crowd, and there were a few other patrons, but the old ladies who brought a deck of cards had the right idea! I was in a group of 8 for New Year's Eve.Once we were seated we waited a good 25-30 minutes for our waitress to come to the table. She was crabby and rude which did not set well with me, especially after looking over the limited menu and noticing that they jacked up the price a good $10-15 an entree since it was NYE. The service was decent. Our server was attentive to our needs, but was gruff with us. She also effectively asked my friend to leave with her (admittedly noisy) kids until the food came out. But that was the real problem. It took over 30 minutes to even see a menu, and it was about an hour and fourth minutes from the time we were sat to the time we were served. The kids probably wouldn't have been so noisy if the service and kitchen were more prompt. Weirdly the server was nice to the kids even though she was rough with their mom. There were many price points for food. The drinks were served in carafes that were kept filled. So that was a bonus. TLDR: very slow service. Average food. Do not recommend. read more

Wonderful food. Slower service than other places, so only go if you have time to wait on your meal. This is probably my favorite place to eat in town. The food is made when you order, nothing sits on a steamer table ever. Not even sides. This factors in for the slow service most likely. Servers are very nice and the staff hasn't turned over since I started eating herer 3 or 4 years ago. I have yet to have and a bad cocktail or mixed drink. The evenings on Friday and Saturday usually have a piano player or another band there. The atmosphere would be good for a date setting or just a casual drink. read more

This has been a favorite of my parents for years. When my mother suggested it for lunch one day I was expecting a bunch of older people with nothing but small salads and soup on the menu, completely the opposite. The restaurant itself is of the beaten path in what looks like an area that should be office buildings. Pretty flowers by the front door, lovely interior, fantastic menu, nice potions and decent prices. I had the French dip with carmelized onions & Swiss cheese added, my mother had their seafood salad which was huge. The staff was very kind, I am temporarily in a wheel chair because I've broken my leg & the bartender held a table for us in the dining room & helped me get comfortable then helped my mother get me back out the door. Limes street has the best corned beef & cabbage in Springfield IL...and the Irish Soda Bread is fantastic! I buy a loaf every year for my freezer. We come here every year on St Paddy's Day - our friends The Emerald Underground plays rockin' Irish music all night after the St Andrews Societycomes in with their bagpipes. read more

Why do people go there? The food is overpriced and mediocre at best. I had a tough steak sandwich for$17.00. The staff are some of the rudest in town and think they are doing you a favor if they wait on you. The owner, what a hateful witch, was upset because we didn't have a reservation. Relaxing atmosphere where you can talk to each other with no noise. Seafood salad is wonderful and the horseshoes are good. Love that they leave a carafe of water so you can serve yourself. Warm rolls are wonderful. read more

2 of my girlfriends and I tried Lime Street last night. We started at the bar having a couple of drinks. The bartender was very accomodating, knowlegable, and super friendly. It looked as if they had quite a selection/full bar. They appear to have 2 dining rooms. 1 was off of the bar area (less formal) and 1 a bit more formal. We moved to the less formal area. The menus have a large variey from sandwiches to steaks to pasta. The waitress offered the specials, and recommended off of the menu. She was very friendly, had great service through our entire meal. 2 of us had the mahi-mahi special, and my other friend had the scallops and chicken. All the dinners came with bread, salad, and choice of side. I felt the mahi was just a bit over cooked/dry...but my friend thought hers was just right. The scallops & chicken were done great, moist & the the sauce was creamy yet light. They play a 70's music in the background for dinner music, and as we were finishing, a band was coming in to set up for an 8:30 gig. It must have been some lighter, or possibly jazz music, the band looked like they may have been in their 60's. Food was good, service was good, and environment is relaxing & nice for conversation. I used to go there at least once a week but my friend moved out of state so now I don't go as much and I miss it very much. She came in town for Christmas and we decided to go and of course as always it was fabulous! I had the Caesar Salad and added Blackened Salmon and I have to say it was the best salad I've ever had, ever! I ate the entire thing. The salad dressing isn't like the traditional Caesar dressing. It was more of an oil and it was super good! The salmon was perfectly blackened. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will most definitely be ordering it again very soon. They were busy as always and the service was exceptional as always! You have a loyal customer with me and I will always come back. Service was pretty bad ... forgot to give us menus, confused about salad dressing (so my salad had slops of balsamic included the ranch I did order on the side. Salad was not as described, the turkey was lunch meat sticks, not sure if I saw the cheese and there were big pepper rings on top (not a cob salad). Food is okay, nothing to write home about. My one complaint about the food is that sprinkling dried parsley over a plate shouldn't be done to garnish. I don't know if I have an accurate feel on the service, because I went on an evening where there was live entertainment, so it was hard to hear. I never had to ask for a drink refill, but if the restaurant would use regular drinking glasses for soda, instead of shorter tumblers, that would have cut the refills needed in half, easing up on the work for the waitress. read more

The food is always good here. Never a bad meal. The quality of the food is always good. I really enjoy their homemade soups. The day we went there was a post funeral luncheon in the main dining room and frankly, Lime Street should have closed to public business with that large of a crowd coming. The food was good but the service was the worst. We ordered two sandwich's and 1.5 hours later we got our food. They had only one waitress serving the entire dining room. What terrible management. This is the 5th time I have been there and each time I have had the same experience. NO MORE!!! I will not be back and I will not recommend this place until management decides to staff the restaurant so dinner does not take 1.5 hours for two sandwiches.
