    Bowl of Chili
    Steven P.

Full disclosure - This review will be a tad long, but worth the read! I have been to quite a few cafes but this slice of Americana was not what I expected! The food was great, if that is all you know or care about then you can stop reading at this point, but I am going to share my experience. I had a bowl of chili when I first arrived and then when my partner in crime showed up I ordered an American burger with steak fries and she had a reuben with steak fries; all of the above was outstanding!! All too often, going to eat at a restaurant has become fast paced and forgettable in our current culture, but today was an exception. I arrived earlier than my fiancé as we had separate missions today before getting a bite to eat. I spent about an hour just sitting at the bar observing and people watching...the ambience was fantastic. The memorabilia on the walls is a combination of The Beatles, American culture, Irish culture, and remembrance placards to those regulars who helped establish and shape the character of the restaurant. Mustard and ketchup in real jars, miniature salt and pepper shakers, real linens, wine glasses that hung from the brass racks above the bar - perfect! The owner (I am assuming) was tucked away in his office carefully hidden behind the mirrored wall but current regulars/friends would ask the bartender if he was around and then go pop in to say hello. The bartender and one waitress on duty were having the type of conversation I could listen to for hours; they knew nearly everyone who walked in by their first name, what they drank, wanted to eat, etc. The music rotating through the 5 tray old school CD player was perfect, as a combination of Fleetwood Mac and Carly Simon era nostalgia was drenching the place in a time gone by. I cannot express enough how perfect it was to feel as if I was immersed in an experience that took me back to my parent's generation - people mattered, conversation mattered, a way of life mattered - the food was just an added bonus!

Came in for lunch with a large party. We waited awhile for the waitress to take our orders and the food took a long time to come. Everyone enjoyed their lunch, however. My Fettuccine Alfredo came with a salad and was absolutely delicious!!! I loved the Mushrooms and Tomatoes in the Alfredo Sauce. I asked for it to be lightly sauced and it was perfect! The Horseshoes were good but not the best we have had. Everyone would have preferred the cheese sauce to be over the fries instead of on the bottom of the plate. The BLT was huge and good. The Cobb salad was also great. Very good lunch overall!

I was in a group of 8 for New Year's Eve.Once we were seated we waited a good 25-30 minutes for our waitress to come to the table. She was crabby and rude which did not set well with me, especially after looking over the limited menu and noticing that they jacked up the price a good $10-15 an entree since it was NYE. The food was excellent but it was annoying knowing I could go the next night and get the same thing for a lot less.

I have never had a bad meal here. For those folks who remember the Leland Hotel horseshoe, the one here is not it, although it is good.

It was incredible, and I found myself craving it daily. As a whiskey lover, I also loved their whiskey flights. The bartenders consistently nailed every drink. My favorite was a whiskey cocktail mixed with sweet and sour and topped with red wine, creating a beautifully decadent whiskey sour flavor. The cabin-like decor is charming, and meeting the owner one day was a unique experience. He shared stories about the animals on the walls and his hunting adventures to collect each one, which explains menu standouts like gator and elk steak. That said, our experience soured over time. A few interactions left us feeling ignored, as servers focused mainly on regulars or larger tables. In such a small place, it was obvious to tell which table needed attention and it was frustrating and felt like too much of an ask when grabbing our server's attention. This made it hard to stay like we normally would. Would I go back? I'd love to, for the Boom Boom sauce and gator bites, but only if the service improves. It's frustrating to feel isolated in such a small space when the food is this good. The bartenders are excellent, though, and even apologized one night when they could tell our service wasn't ideal. The food and drinks are top-notch, the service just needs to match the quality of the vibe.

Thankfully we still were able to get one cider, and they had a selection of other beers. The cider was tart and refreshing, and I really like the berry mocktail, which had ginger beer, and a mix of berries in it. As for food, the Nashville hot chicken sandwich came with a lot of heat which was great. I got the dry rub version, which is spicer than the saucy version. The horseshoe sandwich is a local favorite, which is an open faced sandwich with sliced bread topped with meat (we got the angus beef), fries, and cheese sauce. It was quite heavy and creamy because of all the sauce. Overall we enjoyed our meal and our server was very friendly, although service was on the slower side.

The building is beautiful, the location is perfect, and we thought, "Hey, maybe those bad reviews were just people having a bad day." Spoiler alert: they were not. Service started strong. We were seated right away, and they even brought coloring pages for our kids -- a nice touch that gave us false hope. Then the food arrived, and it was like watching a plot twist in a bad movie. I ordered the Buffalo Chicken Pony Shoe. It came out looking like someone microwaved a bag of frozen chicken tenders and tossed them in buffalo sauce for moral support. The cheese sauce might have been homemade -- it was grainy enough to make me believe someone whisked it themselves -- but there was barely any. Also, who hides the cheese under the fries? That's the star of the show! I had to beg for more, and even then it arrived lukewarm, much like my excitement for the meal. My wife ordered the Pork Schnitzel with "spaetzle." Except it wasn't schnitzel; it was a pork cutlet that had clearly seen the inside of a freezer longer than most people's leftovers. And the "spaetzle"? Nope. Straight-up spaghetti noodles. The mushroom sauce tasted like it came straight from a can labeled Cream of Disappointment. Two of the kids got cheese pizza -- or as I like to call it, "Frozen Circle of Regret." My son's "chips" were somehow both soggy and chewy, a texture I didn't even know existed. Frying them until they're crunchy shouldn't be rocket science, but here we are. Everything was bland, flavorless, and missing any sign of seasoning. The best dish of the entire meal? My daughter's burger on her Pony Shoe -- mostly because it resembled real food. And just to add a little flair, nearly every plate was dusted with dried parsley. Because, of course, nothing says fine dining like sprinkling dried parsley on frozen food. This place has serious potential -- it's got the space, the charm, and the perfect downtown vibe. But if your secret ingredient is "frozen," no amount of parsley is going to save you.
