Good cheap food. We sometimes go for a GREASY breakfast after a night out. Just your typical diner, don't expect much as far as atmosphere.

Got in off the train STARVING and nothing else is open at 10am on a Sunday...and I have to say thank god. This diner is AMAZING!! GREAT service, quick kitchen, and the food was SOOOO good. There are a couple of things that could have been better but with such amazing service and steak and eggs cooked to perfection they more than earned their 5 star rating...and the prices were SO reasonable! read more

Ok decided to try this establishment and wish we wouldn't have. Need to change oil in fryer fries and hamburger heavy with grease. I complained and complaints went unanswered, more concerned about getting the money out of us never mind we didn't eat our meals. read more

Walk by this place all the time, never thought to stop. Wow was I surprised to find I live but 2 blocks from an awesome cafe that cares and has great food. Terrible! We walked in sat down waited and waited and waited finally a waitress walked up and asked if we needed menus! I was like yea so she hands us some and never seen another person even try to approach us to get drinks started!! Unbelievable! We also counted for staff members walk by not eve acknowledge us! Just as we were getting up they rounded up the whole staff to sing happy birthday to a table! That's the only positive to this rating other wise prepare to sit and sit and wait and wait for a cup of water! I don't recommend this place if your busy! read more

I absolutely adore this place. It's just a stones throw from my house, so I am a frequent visitor. I've never had bad luck with the food or service, and I've been there all hours of the day. The chicken tender horseshoe and the country fried steak breakfast are staples in my diet! read more

We decided to drive into town for breakfast and my husband likes to order takeout for his work so I thought I'd give it a try. Right off the bat we noticed the staff wasn't very helpful. Our waitress was new, which is fine, but when she had to asked another waitress what was in a certain dish the more experienced waitress just looked at her and told her she should already know these things. Maybe she was right, but don't act that way in front of customers. Once we ordered we waited about 30 mins and watched people who had ordered after us get their food. We tried to get somebodies attention but they weren't really making eye contact. I finally get my waitresses attention and ask her about our order. She checks and tells us that they were working on our food right now. 20 minutes later the people who ordered after us are done with their food and we are also done. We get up to leave and now the waiting staff notices us. They say that it is being plated right now. We aren't impressed and still decide to leave. The owner chases us out in the parking lot and said it was "bull shit" that we were leaving. Wow! Claimed that what we ordered was time consuming but it does not take 50 mins to cook egg whites and make hash browns crispy especially with other tables are getting their food. We would have waited and been patient if they had been polite and communicated with us. The owner chasing us down to yell at us just made me feel better about leaving. I will not go back. read more

have been going to sunrise for quite a while for dinner. After today i will not be back! Ordered a piece of pie and a coffee to eat there and a large chili to go. should have been about $8.00 ...rang up at $13.45.......and when i checked the bag to go the chili was in a styrofoam cup with a thin plastic lid that spilled out while i was driving. Food was good and the service was friendly but it took a long time to get our food. It took 30 minutes to get our food while 2 tables that came in AFTER us got theirs before us and one of those tables had more people than we did. If you cook to order that's understandable but if everything is cooked IN order ( in which they are received ) there's no reason we shouldn't have gotten our food first when we ordered first AND we ordered from the menu as it came NO special requests or changes so it was a simple order... If you have time to kill and want something good then this is the place for you but if you don't have time to waste waiting for food go else where. I'm not a yelp hater if you look at my other reviews most are 5 stars, they lost one star for our wait and another for the owners comment implying ours took longer because of being picky or ordering things with added things or changes which we did not. I'll be back in 5 years for another SIU reunion but I'll go else where. We walk in, only one empty table and it had not been bussed. We asked the waitress if we could sit down and she rudely said yes and that she would be back to clean. She continued to ignore us and the dirty table- we were not acknowledged by any one else, so we left. This place is disgusting, dirty, and the staff is rude. read more

My husband and I were in Springfield for two days and on the morning we were leaving we were on the hunt for a nice little diner to eat breakfast. We stumbled across this place after driving around for half an hour looking for some place to eat. When we walked in we noticed that all of the empty tables had not been bused. We walked the length of the restaurant and arrived at the counter, which had about 6-8 seats, when the woman behind the counter told us to sit anywhere and someone would be by to clear the table. This isn't a large place and with about half of their 20 or so table/booths taken and the other half dirty, we found a table that looked "less dirty" than the rest. The waitress came over and started clearing the mess, dropped the rag on the table and walked away (we still don't have coffee at this point). I grabbed the rag and wiped the table down and waited for our waitress to return. She came back took our order and brought us some coffee. When the food arrived it was hot and cooked well. We both had eggs, hash browns and toast, I had bacon and he had sausage links. Aside from the fact that the waitress seemed to be in an extremely bad mood and none of the dirty tables had been cleaned the entire time we were there, the food was very good. However, just as great service doesn't make up for bad food, great food doesn't make up for horrible service and abysmal dining conditions. read more

Quick service, friendly staff, and affordable prices. No frills, but it gets the job done.

Typical diner with decent food, decent prices, and prompt service. I had to be at work in 25 min across town but I was starving, stopped here and was able to order, eat, and pay within 15 min. It's also convenient for to go orders because they have a drive thru window. Usually I eat the veggie omelet, it always comes out piping hot and seasoned well, they use crap sliced cheese on it but it's still good. I've been told they have good burgers and meatloaf so I'll definitely be back to try that. read more

Best for all day breakfast. Excellent Biscuits and Gravy. I will probably never have anything off of their dinner menu. Cheap Super Cheap. we got 2 orders of biscuits and gravy, two orders of two eggs, 3 sausage links and a cup of coffee for less than 13 bucks. It was fast and tasted GREAT. I wish I could say my experiences here were good but I have eaten breakfast here twice recently and will not be returning. I didn't think it was possible to make bad pancakes but Sunrise showed me that I was wrong. The pancakes were dense and tasted terrible, as I imagine they would taste if starch were added. Hands down the worst pancakes I have ever tasted. On the second visit, two of us had three eggs each (all six of which were overcooked, resulting in hard yolks instead of being over-medium with soft yolks), sausage patties that were overcooked and dry, hash browns that were partially undercooked and partially burnt, toast that was so tough and dry that I have to question whether the bread was fresh before being toasted and if there was a shortage of butter/margarine in the restaurant, all topped off with iced-tea so sour that I drank the unfiltered water instead. As a side note, the special listed above includes bottomless tea or coffee but they will not allow you to substitute one small glass of milk. Unfortunately, the pre-packaged jelly I used to make the toast palatable was the best part of the entire meal. read more
