    Canned peaches aka fruit bowl
    Jessica B.

I genuinely don't understand how this place has such great reviews. Maybe their lunch is better than their breakfast? The coffee was decent and the servers were busy but nice. However, this restaurant needs to invest in some fresh produce. Everything is packaged and cooked up and it's evident. I ordered a fruit bowl for our two year old thinking it would be the usual mix of fruit like strawberries, blueberries, pineapple or some other tropical fruit. Nope. It was canned peaches. They didn't even take the time to drain the syrup off the peaches. His cinnamon roll? A packaged Big Texas cinnamon roll. Microwaved. I had the western omelet with rye toast (which came burnt). The cheese that comes with this? Strips of American cheese singles melted across the top. My boyfriend ordered their bacon breakfast horseshoe and the melted yellow cheese that came with this "horseshoe" was clumpy and tasteless. I really love diners/cafes but I would not come back to this one again.

Very happy to see them this morning, especially with the employee pandemic going on. This was the 3 place I went to and the first that was open. Walked in and grabbed a seat. Waitress was passing by and asked if I wanted a coffee and a menu. Naturally I said yes. There was a bone in ham steak and two eggs special, but I chose the Western omelette and half order of biscuits and gravy. Everything was served promptly and was very good. Sorry I didn't get pictures. I was hungry.

The is an old style restaurant. No frills. Coffee is quick to you and hot!!! Very busy. This is the local hang out for sure. That in my eyes is a very good thing. Servers very polite. Cash only no plastic here, but you will find an ATM next to the register so you can print your own money. Just got the horseshoe. Wow wow wow. Toast scrambled eggs sausage sausage gravy over it all and hash browns mounded on top. Amazing for sure. $7. A must restaurant in springfield.

I come to Springfield once every 4 years or so, last time I had breakfast in town was at Charlie Parkers, and it was pretty good. So, This seemed to be the best next thing on Yelp. The place was half full, but we still had to wait for coffee and water (which you have to request). The server was nice enough, I tried the "HorseShoe" . It was awful. The cheese wiz or whatever that was, over powered the eggs, the hash browns, and made the toast buried under all this soggy and disgusting. There was some bacon in there too, that was nothing outstanding. My wife had an omelet that was nothing special. Her side order of American Fries, did not come till we asked for it. When it did arrive they were good. I would try it again, I can see why the "Horseshoe" never took off anywhere else. It was bad.

Thankfully we still were able to get one cider, and they had a selection of other beers. The cider was tart and refreshing, and I really like the berry mocktail, which had ginger beer, and a mix of berries in it. As for food, the Nashville hot chicken sandwich came with a lot of heat which was great. I got the dry rub version, which is spicer than the saucy version. The horseshoe sandwich is a local favorite, which is an open faced sandwich with sliced bread topped with meat (we got the angus beef), fries, and cheese sauce. It was quite heavy and creamy because of all the sauce. Overall we enjoyed our meal and our server was very friendly, although service was on the slower side.

The building is beautiful, the location is perfect, and we thought, "Hey, maybe those bad reviews were just people having a bad day." Spoiler alert: they were not. Service started strong. We were seated right away, and they even brought coloring pages for our kids -- a nice touch that gave us false hope. Then the food arrived, and it was like watching a plot twist in a bad movie. I ordered the Buffalo Chicken Pony Shoe. It came out looking like someone microwaved a bag of frozen chicken tenders and tossed them in buffalo sauce for moral support. The cheese sauce might have been homemade -- it was grainy enough to make me believe someone whisked it themselves -- but there was barely any. Also, who hides the cheese under the fries? That's the star of the show! I had to beg for more, and even then it arrived lukewarm, much like my excitement for the meal. My wife ordered the Pork Schnitzel with "spaetzle." Except it wasn't schnitzel; it was a pork cutlet that had clearly seen the inside of a freezer longer than most people's leftovers. And the "spaetzle"? Nope. Straight-up spaghetti noodles. The mushroom sauce tasted like it came straight from a can labeled Cream of Disappointment. Two of the kids got cheese pizza -- or as I like to call it, "Frozen Circle of Regret." My son's "chips" were somehow both soggy and chewy, a texture I didn't even know existed. Frying them until they're crunchy shouldn't be rocket science, but here we are. Everything was bland, flavorless, and missing any sign of seasoning. The best dish of the entire meal? My daughter's burger on her Pony Shoe -- mostly because it resembled real food. And just to add a little flair, nearly every plate was dusted with dried parsley. Because, of course, nothing says fine dining like sprinkling dried parsley on frozen food. This place has serious potential -- it's got the space, the charm, and the perfect downtown vibe. But if your secret ingredient is "frozen," no amount of parsley is going to save you.
