While performing job related duties I stopped in for lunch. I had a breaded fish type slider with sauce and special fries along with a crab type soup. I have to tell you it's was tremendous The service was great as I sat at the bar. And the atmosphere of the place was so peaceful. I'm so glad I popped in for a bite. I attempted to go here during the summer without reservations. The place was empty but we were turned away. Did not like the way the hostess spoke or acted towards us. Still decided to give it a chance. Went during the fall and we felt rushed by the staff to get us in and out. I got the specialty fish and I cannot remember the sauce used but it was sweet which did not go with the fish. The filet wasn't bad but not for the price. We spent $232 before tip. This review is based on a take out lunch order only. My mom has dined in here a bunch as it's super close to her work, but while I was in SPI we ordered takeout only. For two of us to share we got the grilled chicken fajita sandwich with rosemary Parmesan fries and from the fancy grilled cheese section of the menu we got the creamy spinach and artichoke sandwich with potato salad as the side. Sandwich one: I've never ordered a fajita sandwich so this was a big win for me. The bread was properly buttered and toasted and the chicken fajita filling had great flavor. I love thin fries and their version is a good one. Sandwich two: if you know me or you've read my reviews, I love grilled cheese sandwiches!! Love, love, love them!! Especially creative and fancy ones. If you love warm spinach and artichoke dip, this sandwich is for you. The bread was perfectly toasted and as described the inside spread was creamy with great melting and tasting cheeses; Fontina and Gruyère. The only miss from all that we ordered was the potato salad. It should have been called raw onion salad. It was loaded with them!! I do not eat raw onions, so this was inedible for me. The menu changes with the seasons and according to my mom they have a delicious butternut squash soup in the fall. Classy place in downtown Springfield, about as classy as you can get. If you're around here that is. Loukinen's On 4th also lets you know what street it's on. A lot of fancy food for around here. The prices really aren't that bad considering the good quality. About the most expensive things are drinks. It's about $12 or more for a cocktail, which isn't surprising because of course this is a pretty classy place. This time we opted for some cheap beers, or the cheapest they had last time. It doesn't have a whole lot for vegans, but they have an Impossible Burger. It's about $14, which isn't that bad for this kind of place. This comes with a side, and we each got a salad. For a salad, it was pretty impressive looking. The Impossible Burgers were cooked without becoming hard as a rock, as these can be sometimes. Good place for fancy drinks and food. It's not that bad of a price for the portions and quality. There's plenty of things for both meat eaters and vegetarians. read more

What a wonderful place with some amazing food. We were on our way to Zach William's concert and just happened upon this restaurant. We did not have reservations and it was a Friday night at 6 pm, but we were able to be seated right away. The Manchurian Style Cauliflower was delicious. It practically melted in your mouth. I seriously could have had this as my main course and would have been satisfied. I then ordered the Three Cheese French Onion soup for my main meal and I didn't go wrong. This truly hit the spot and wasn't too heavy. The flavor was spot on. My 2 friends also enjoyed their meals as they had gotten the Bacon, Brown Sugar Bourbon Glaze Burger and the Spiced Shaved Prime Rib Sandwich. They were both pleased with the appetizer as they were their sandwiches. The restaurant was nicely decorated. Seating was not too close and we were able to carry on a conversation with out having to speak loudly. Our server was very personable and knew the menu well. She kept our drinks full. We were able to visit with the Chef and he gave some insight to the cauliflower appetizer. While there we also witnessed the Chef cleaning some of the tables. I completely forgot about doing this review (visited in November '21) and this meal was actually one of my top three of last year. I was with my wife and another couple right before Thanksgiving and the autumnal specials were in full swing. The vegetable and rice soup I had was amazing but the pan seared sea bass was to die for. To find a restaurant in Springfield that can actually pull off Risotto is amazing to me - highlight of the night for this die hard Chef Ramsay fan! The ambiance was clean and professional, bathrooms were immaculate and our server was wonderful. The interior of this space oddly made me feel like I was walking into a commercial office space. Although the menu wasn't very extensive or unique, the food was decent and well plated. Had a nice dinner here over the weekend. Food was good but be sure to check your receipt before paying. We and the other couple we were with both got charged extra for a top shelf vodka in our drinks that we did not request and I'm not sure if it was actually used in the Autumn Mule that we both had ordered. When we brought it to the waiter's attention he got the manager. The manager started off saying it was because we order the top shelf vodka and when we said we did not request it, she said well that is what most people order so that's what we gave you. We again pointed out that we had not asked for that and while she readily took the charge off the ticket, it left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth. What a nice evening. We are in Springfield to see the sites and choose Loukinens for dinner. We had no reservations but were seated right away by the chef owner. Our server was Rick and he was truly a professional. Old school service and we loved it. Personable, funny, attentive and he knew when to leave us alone. Most of the group had the pan seared Salmon and were very happy with it. I opted for a salad and crab cake. Very tasty. We split 3 desserts and all plates were emptied! It looks like they took their time preparing the menu and the restaurant. My only complaint was they charge $11 (even tho it says $9 on the menu) for 3 deviled eggs! Not 3 whole eggs, 3 halves with a little smoked salmon for $11 is absolutely ridiculous. And when I mentioned they should be 9 (which is still way too high) they said it was a mistake on the menu and didn't bother changing it. I'll still go back. This restaurant was always one of our favorites. Tonight was really off. They were out of Tito's vodka, no Pinot Noir of any kind or a Cabernet that we requested! We order drinks and an appetizer (there were 4 of us). One drink came out and probably 15 minutes later the rest of us got our cocktails. The appetizer arrived before the rest of us received our drinks. We ordered lobster corn dogs for the appetizer. Three of them were 20$. They were not great. Our waiter didn't even mention there was a special Mahi tonight. We overheard another server telling her table about it and we had already ordered. Salmon was cold, meatloaf cupcakes were served without the mushroom gravy as described. Server didn't even mention dessert. Just wanted to know how to bring the bill. The atmosphere in the dining room was clean and comfortable. The menu has plenty to choose from and sounded great. We ordered salads and had an extensive conversation about the salad with the server. The salad course arrived for only two of the four of us, I inquired with the bus person as to where the other two were as the server wasn't around. After the others salads were finished the server showed up and said "yours didn't come with salad." (None of them did) the salads were an extra $9.00 I replied with what we ordered and the server recalled and replied oh I forgot. No offer to bring them anyway. The food arrived quickly, the steak and shrimp were not seasoned in any way. The au gratin potatoes seemed made up way ahead and reheated and were so salty they were inedible. The waitress asked if we wanted desert, we expressed interest. She stated the deserts were not on the menu and asked if we knew what we wanted but she hadn't said what they had. We ordered desert but it was lackluster. We saw the chef standing in the dining room but nobody ever asked how our food was. I paid my 160.00 bill for two dinners (no drinks)and left disappointed. My husband and I stopped by this place after googling good eats in Springfield, while attending a graduation at the IL State police Academy. It's just minutes away from the IL Dept. of Corrections Academy. The food was really good! The soups are rich in flavor. The cream of Mushroom was my favorite! DELICIOUS!!! The crap cake sandwich was so good. The crispy crust made it that much better and or course I had to pair it with the Parmesan fries. The ambiance is really nice and cozy! I had dinner at the bar and John was my bartender. He was fantastic! He gave me some great ideas for entrées as well as some history with the founding of the restaurant. Overall my experience was fantastic and I would highly recommend coming here for cocktails or dinner because there's so many menu items to choose from. I'm here in Springfield and noticed this place was open for lunch today so I tried it. What a find! The food was exceptional. I had today's special which was a BLT but with 2 kinds of bacon (one was candied), I'm not sure what the other was. It had cheese and some kind of sauce or spicy mayo or something on it. Came on some delicious toasted bread too. I'm not really sure what all was on it but it was delicious. I got it with a cauliflower curry herb bisque or something like that. Again, I'm not completely sure what I was eating but I know I liked it! I can guarantee I will be back here next time I'm in town. read more
