Mondays are the best - Monday night football on full volume, big screen TVs and half price build your own pizzas ($8 for a 12" is a great price). The pizza is thin crust and very good! Tara was bartender tonight and did amazing. The service is awesome. Lots of energy in this place. Waitstaff at front door and tables are very friendly and attentive. Sitting in the rooftop bar area, great vibe on a summer day. We were warmly greeted, have a FANTASTIC server, impressive beer selection and reasonably priced. Second time visiting this establishment, decided to enjoy some outdoor seating courtesy of COVID-19. Our dinner party was seated on the rooftop, which afforded us a wonderful view of the West Side hustle and bustle after a busy day of work. While I think the rooftop could benefit from additional decoration, or maybe the addition of loudspeakers or a T.V. or two to really bring home the atmosphere, I thoroughly enjoy what Home Plate brought to the batter's box as far as ambiance was/is concerned. As far as the food goes, the fried pickles were excellent, the bratwurst were spectacular, the drinks were flowing, and our stomachs were left full and satisfied. Make no mistake, if you're looking for fine dining, this is not that kind of restaurant; but one might say that you would be hard pressed to find a nicer, authentic-outdoor bar food experience on the West Side. Service was wonderful, attentive, and visited just enough to keep the drinks flowing without feeling like we were being bothered. Considering how often the servers were traveling up and down the stairs, I tip my hat to their stamina; I know I would be hard pressed to be as personable and energetic if I had to spend half my time running up and down stairs carrying drinks and food, no matter how much you paid me! In summation, this establishment doesn't re-invent bar food, nor do I expect it to become renowned or garner national accolades. Rather, Home Plate Bar and Grill reminds me of those workhorse baseball players that fanbases know and cherish, who put in work day-in and day-out, who fans support through thick-and-thin because they're their workhorse and they'd take that player over anyone, like Paul Konerko for the White Sox, or Derek Lee for the Cubs, or Yadier Molina for the Cards. 5/5 mustard stains on my white shirt, would dine at again. read more

Received a $100 gift card to Home Plate. My husband and I decided to stop in and eat, we hadn't been in a very long time. They have outdoor seating, it was a lovely evening. I enjoyed some local spirits from one of the breweries that has seasonal beer there. We ordered the giant pretzel as an appetizer. We both had a burger and fries. The food was hot and good. Our waitress was great. It's bar food. A good place to watch the game. However, when I went to pay with the gift card there were two amounts. One amount if you were paying cash and one amount if you were paying with a card. They charge an extra fee for paying with THEIR own gift card! What!?! I never throw out I'm an EMT for the 10% discount, but I guess to off-set the ridiculous card charge on THEIR own gift card someone else gave me I should have. I'm curious to know how much they pocket each year by doing this? I will be sure to not buy family or friends gift cards there. Big place, high ceilings, lots of big screens. Outdoor seating options including rooftop option, very cool. What isn't cool is a bartender who allows her husband and THREE minor children sit at the bar! This is illegal in Illinois. She is jeopardizing this establishments liquor license among other things. This was at lunch time on a Saturday. Besides the fact that it is illegal for minors to sir at a bar, it's just not a good idea. Kids just don't belong sitting on a bar stool even if their mom is working behind the bar. So on to the food and drink, really good crispy wings and HUGE beer and whiskey selection.
