What a fun place to visit. Located just a block off rt66 George Ranks is under new ownership and…read morehas went through some nice changes. The food here is amazingly good. Its a very nice mix of burgers and "sammiches" for anyone to enjoy. Appetizers are also available. Buffalo wings here are my favorite!!! Then there is the cocktails!!! Very inexpensive and great specials daily. Highly recommend this "dive bar" for any locals or anyone passing through.

The building at 6th & Laurel has been many things since being built in the late 1950s. It started…read morelife as the Triple Treat Drive-In. Then morphed to Sir Pizza, a pizza place with an Arthurian theme. When local musician George Rank picked it up and opened George Rank's Spirits and Sandwiches it was well-received and of decent quality. Alas, nothing is forever and George is no longer with the living. The location has had many names and themes since then, often returning to the "George Rank's" meme. The latest iteration started out well as the owner had owned a popular chilli parlour and brought Nancy, the lady who made the chilli and soups over to the bar and grill. As noted above, nothing is forever. Nancy has moved on. There are no soups, the chilli would make a Pennsylvania diner or truck stop proud - but certainly is not fit to be served in the "Chilli Capitol of the Civilised Universe". The ambiance has changed, too. Noisy video poker machines spew their racket into the smallish room, making conversation difficult. And the video jukebox flashes its adverts garishly into the gloom. I ordered a roast beef and pepper jack sandwich on a wheat roll. After a few minutes and after my dining companions had received their food I was told that "the roast beef is still frozen" (this was after 12 noon) and asked would I like another choice of meat. So, I asked for the Virgina ham, pepper jack cheese on a whole wheat roll. What I got was ham, yellow cheese and a white roll. And the above mentioned horrid cup of chilli. None of us will be back under the current owners.

Thankfully we still were able to get one cider, and they had a selection of other beers. The cider was tart and refreshing, and I really like the berry mocktail, which had ginger beer, and a mix of berries in it. As for food, the Nashville hot chicken sandwich came with a lot of heat which was great. I got the dry rub version, which is spicer than the saucy version. The horseshoe sandwich is a local favorite, which is an open faced sandwich with sliced bread topped with meat (we got the angus beef), fries, and cheese sauce. It was quite heavy and creamy because of all the sauce. Overall we enjoyed our meal and our server was very friendly, although service was on the slower side.

There's a limited menu at the brewery, order drinks and food at counter and pager sounds to let you know when your order is ready. There's several outdoor games, jumbo Connect Four, beanbags, etc. to keep patrons amused and occupied. My chicken Caesar wrap was fresh and tasty, quesadillas reported as good. Not a bad way to spend a warm evening. I'd like to see an alternative floor outside, mini gravel not comfy when it gets into your sandals!
