Everytime I pass through Springfield IL , I make the time & effort to go to the Curve Inn . It's every nice divebar you have ever been to. Great drinks , wonderful food with daily specials , and just a funtastic place to visit. The outside patio has good bands to listen to so check the schedule ! We were lucky that Shelly & Nikki were serving at the bar as their service is always exemplary and we just love them . If their parking lot is full , you can park across the street on the church lot except during church services ( they have signs stating when you cannot park there. ) read more

Looking for a dive bar with cheap drinks? This is it! Bloody Mary bar today added to the fun. It's a cute bar with great bartenders. We didn't eat so I can't speak for the food though. Next to the bar is another building/patio with a stage for bands to play. It's more of an open air area but in the winter they heat it and close it up. Now in Illinois this means they can still smoke there. If you don't mind the old Smokey bar feel it's great. You can always go in the main building where there's no smoking if you don't want to be around that. I think in the summer it would be a great hangout! While visiting Springfield, we stopped in at the Curve Inn for dinner after an afternoon at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum. We prefer to avoid chain restaurants and eat at locally-owned establishments, and the Curve Inn is a sweet local bar/restaurant where neighbors hang out at the large oval bar, play darts, and I think there were some gaming machines. We were greeted warmly by the sweet bartender/server who took great care of us the whole time. The menu is large and varied. Coming from the DC area, we were shocked at the reasonably priced food and drinks! My husband selected the jalapeño burger. It was very large, cooked perfectly to medium rare, topped with incredible fried jalapeño cheese curds. He selected tots as his side. He got a huge mound of these crispy and tasty bits of heaven. I ordered something that is unique to Springfield-a "Pony Shoe." This was so phenomenally good-it's Texas toast topped with a meat of choice, homemade cheese sauce, topped with fries or tots. I got ribeye as my meat, cooked to a perfect medium and the tots. We each had a blood orange IPA on tap. To add to the awesomeness of the evening, the St. Louis Cardinals/Washington Nationals game was playing on one of their screens. Perfect meal, perfect night! They have the best burgers in town. Half pound of burgers like up by the Chicago suburbs in Southern Wisconsin, where I came from. It's a little loud. It's not bad if you like live music. Review is a tale of two experiences on a Thursday night. Got there, great bartenders, great customer service, nice people as guests, karaoke was good, food was ok. Then shift change happened at 10 pm and I was going to just stay till end of karaoke when at 10:30 the female bartender comes up to me with a bar mat and says "I am setting up my station here now". Taken a back of the inconsiderate customer service and statement that I took the high road and left the bar. It is unfortunate that one persons action or rudeness could negate a great review. I still give it 3 stars, however 1 star after shift change. Please work on training customer service. After 20 years in the industry a simple explanation or request would have changed the whole experience. Please don't dismiss this bar, just get there before 10:30 pm. read more

If you're from out of town and you're expecting something fancy, this isn't the place for you. This is a dive bar. So you may need to look up the definition. It's a great time with live music. It has a great outside beer garden. The owner is almost always available and their staff is great. It's a very busy place and they are running full throttle, especially during band nights. Most of the time it's an older crowd, 30-60, before 11:00. And you're younger and amateur drinkers after that. I enjoy myself every time I'm there. read more

Decided to grab a bite here while I was in town. I ordered a buffalo chicken horseshoe and it was the worst I have ever had. I choked down 1/3 of it before I had to give up. The cheese sauce had the consistency of milk and the chicken wasn't tossed in wing sauce. The wing sauce was just poured onto the meat which just watered down the cheese. The fries were also undercooked. I was nauseous and miserable for the next 10 hours. Maybe the rest of their menu is better? Avoid their horseshoe at all costs! read more

Awesome dive bar! We stopped here for a drink in Saturday afternoon because the weather was perfect and the bf didn't know of many other places with an outdoor patio that weren't super-cheesy. He had tried to bring me here for lunch on a past trip, but the picture of the giant steer on the illuminated 1970s-era sign sort of deterred me. On this trip, we ventured into the dark bar and ordered two imported draft beers at the bar (CASH ONLY) for about $7 and went outside. The outdoor patio had a very strange layout - an upper level with what looked like a (defunct?) bar on one end and a port-o-let off the side of the other. The upper level was long and narrow with only a handful of tables. On the lower level, there seemed to be a lot more room and many more places to sit. It was sort of rocking for a Saturday afternoon. People were having a good time playing corn hole and drinking buckets of beers. The staff was setting up for a band in some sort of amorphous stage area on the bottom level. We noticed that there were heaters installed into the brick wall along the back side of the patio, indicating that the party doesn't stop when the weather gets cold. Looking around, I was sort of glad I didn't live in Springfield- not because I didn't like the place, but because I became so comfortable with the easy going summery scene that I could see myself spending a lot of time at the Curve Inn, despite the fact that the music vacillated between horribly loud classic rock and awesomely obscure Indie tunes. The first time I came here I was disappoint in the food. I order fish and French fries. I came with some co workers after work to listen to THE GET DOWN band. They were awesome by the way!!! The bartenders were attentive and nice. So another co worker told me that the food is much better....That the menu has changed and maybe the menu has changed but I still think it sucks! I ordered a hamburger and fries and figured that was the safest to eat. I mean how can a cook mess this up? While my plate looked scrumptious and the vegetables were fresh, the burger tasted burnt with every bite. I even looked at it and it had grill lines on it which was fine. I love grilled burgers! This one was grilled way too long. And tasted awful. I could've complained but I should not have had to. So I doubt if I would come back here since I like to eat when I drink at a bar. On non-weekend nights, this place seems OK. There's a couple of spaces within the building so you can pack a ton of people in here on busy nights. I came for a few beers on a Thursday night since The Curve was right across the street from my hotel and the place was mostly dead until about 1 a.m. Apparently that's when all the other bars in Springfield close and all of the college kids come over here to party till 3 a.m. Oh, did I mention this place is open till 3 a.m. EVERY NIGHT? We also came here Friday after another bar closed and this place was a shit show. It was PACKED. It was almost impossible to even get to the bar, let alone order a drink. Our bartender was also an ass hole. He was serving the end of the bar nearest the door. They had a draft Coors Light special that was very clearly advertised on a board in the bar and he refused to give us that price. He kept giving the bottle which was more money and saying that the special wasn't valid. It was hard to argue with him because it was loud and he really didn't stay around long enough to talk so we moved to a different part of the bar. Honestly, I feel like anyone over 23 is probably too old to come here on the weekends. It's the only place in Springfield (literally) that's open after 1 a.m. and still serving alcohol so you don't really have a choice if you want to keep drinking. All in all, a pretty douche-y place to hang out. I couldn't do it for more than an hour but if it's your only choice I can see why the people flock here. Also, fun story: since this is in central Illinois and essentially a part of Springfield where no one lives, it's really fun to watch all of the super drunk idiots leave the bar at 2 and 3 a.m. and GET INTO THEIR CARS to drive home. No one seems to think it's weird especially because they have a giant parking lot. Yikes. read more

Stopped in for their Monday $8 rib lunch special. Came with chips and cole slaw. The 1/2 rack of ribs was good size and plenty for lunch. They had a flavorful rub which was not hot. The bark was perfect. Too often smoked ribs have a dry tough bark. This bark was done right. The meat was so tender it fell off the bone but still had good texture. Mine had a bit of fat which could have used a bit longer over the flame. Wife's had no fat and was perfect. The waitress said the ribs were "awesome". She was right. Not the best ribs we've ever eaten but pretty darn good. The slaw is sort of Italian vinegar style. It was fresh and ok if you like that kind but we prefer creamy style slaw. The chips were the standard out of the bag every day chips. For $8 it was a very good lunch special. The Curve Inn is and always has been a dive bar. It's not " Cheers" and not a family bar/restaurant. It's a dive and the owners advertise it as such. And that's OK. It's a place for OK food and lots of drinks. read more

i've had this app for about 2 years, but have never bothered to waist my energy leaving a review for any business, until now, because i'm so pissed off. this is only the second time i have been to the curve but have been denied on both occasions simply because i have a vertical id. the fact that vertical ids are not allowed because "the owners don't like them" is absolutely ignorant and probably the most stupid excuse i've ever heard. i am 22 turning 23 and have NEVER had an issue getting into any bar besides the curve. on top of that, the bouncer was extremely rude and honestly just sounded like an idiot trying to reason for denying my vertical id. also, more than half the people i saw walk in before me were NOT 21. maybe you guys should be more worried about fake, horizontal ids, rather than REAL, vertical ids :) next time i'll be sure to alert the cops when i know of multiple underage kids being served alcohol at your bar. read more
