We found this on the Food Network website as the best place in Springfield for Horseshoes and it was great! We sat at the bar, so we didn't wait long. There was a line when we arrived but it moved amazingly quickly. I would definitely recommend this as a place to eat. Great beers on tap, super friendly and efficient service, and good pub fare. I am glad we ordered the smaller, pony sizes shoe because there is no way we could have eaten more. The pictures look sloppy but it was delicious and we ate every bite. read more

The food here is absolutely amazing, especially the Shepherds pie and horse shoes. The service is excellent the second people leave the table it's bussed and ready for the next group. Brooklyn was our server for one trip, and she was amazingly quick getting us drinks and everything we asked for. I will be recommending this place to everyone interested it is worth every penny. I don't know what crack they put in that cheese sauce but it's worth the exercise I had to do to burn off those calories. Food and service were stellar. Lost a point because I'm a beer snob. D'Arcy's Pint was on my must-try list because it was featured on Man vs Food a while ago. It was a pleasant surprise when I found myself in Springfield IL on a business trip. Got there early on a Wednesday about 5:30 pm, it quickly filled up in the hour we were there. Ordered the famous Horseshoe, or more accurately the smaller "pony" version of the night's special Italian Beef & Sausage combo. It was very filling and tasty, I still had to take some back to the hotel as leftovers. The meat, toast, and cheese sauce really reminded me of a Louisville Hot Brown sandwich. I guess I'll order a turkey horseshoe with bacon to make it a supersized version of a Hot Brown! Total bill with two drinks and pony came out to about $19. Recommend and will repeat to try new versions of a horseshoe the next time business brings me back to Springfield! read more

For our last meal in Springfield we went to D'Arcy's Pint for a burger and beer. I know, we really should have saved D'Arcy's for our horseshoe trial, but we didn't and actually had some very good sandwiches here. On a Friday, D'Arcy's is a busy place. It has a large and varied American menu featuring pub food. Ms T and I had good burgers. Hers was just a simple cheese burger and mine was their chipotle burger and although I did not detect any actual chipotle, I liked it. The beef was not dried out although apparently Sangamon County feels the ground beef may be contaminated and allows no rarer than medium to be served. Ms T likes medium well and was quite happy with hers. I also had some excellent slaw, not sweet. I like to eat something like Frank's or Crystal Hot Sauce on my slaw and I was pleased they had more than Tabasco. Ms D really liked her Southern Chicken club which is made with toasted white bread that has some corn meal in it. My mother used to make this bread and it does make good toast. Ms D complimented the sandwich. Mr D likes Reubens, so ordered one and also was very complimentary. All in all this was an enjoyable round of sandwiches in a good setting. We had good service and our server knew the menu well and made good recommendations. I rate Darcy's 3-1/2 stars based on one visit. I am rounding up for the good slaw and not having to eat Tabasco. It's little things that make a difference. read more

I know the other reviews have mentioned horseshoes, but I thought I would start off with a definition: horseshoes are an open faced sandwich served on texas toast meat (traditionally two hamburger patties) then covered in fries and cheese sauce. It's definitely not health food and there are plenty of places that serve horseshoes or the smaller ponyshoe in the central Illinois area (the Steak and Shake's here serve them as well.) D'arcy's is famous because it was featured on Al Roker's food network show. They have a white cheddar sauce that covers their horseshoes, it gives the 'shoe a more dignified flair. The place isn't going to win any awards for health food but it's a good place, if a little pricey. In my mind, simple fare like horseshoes should be kept simple and cheap, although the varieties of 'shoes they have makes me think twice. The Buffalo Chicken is probably the best out of the whole bunch. Other food-wise, it's okay, they have a bunch of pizzas and your burgers and try to get some Irish cuisine type items on the menu. They definitely try to get creative, and it can be hit or miss. The beer selection is pretty thin, a lot of Irish beers on tap for sure but not too extensive. Not a bad place to hit up for a 'shoe or a Guinness. read more

My first time coming here and it was packed, about a 20 minute wait on a Wednesday night. I was pleasantly surprised to see this was an Irish restaurant. Once we were finally seated we ordered pretty quickly and the food came out in a timely fashion. I had the Irish Sampler which consisted of Fish and Chips, Corned Beef and Cabbage and Shepards Pie. Sheppard's pie that only potatoes and cheese, a brie dish that was described as "pineapple and pecans" that had apples grapes and melon, and missing salads and starch sides on several orders. We were breezing through Springfield to see several Lincoln sites and after the reviews on Yelp we decided to stop at D'Arcy's Pint. For the most part we're glad we did. We arrived around 1 p.m. on a weekday afternoon and breezed right in. No wait, which was great! The menu has a great variety of pub fare. There were many things we wanted to try like the boxties but decided to go with the horseshoes. My friend had the special of the week a turkey bacon ranch and I had the chili cheeseburger. We knew they'd be big but holy cow. Definitely go with the pony unless you're starving or about to run a marathon, these suckers are gigantic and a great price, $8.75. I love that they use crinkle fries, crispy on the outside soft on the inside. The fries cover the plate and are drenched in the cheese sauce, which is indeed good. I had to dig for my chili and hamburger, it was buried. I honestly only ate about a 1/4 of the plate it was too rich for me. Wow! Heavy! I wondered if the spicy cheese sauce would have been better the traditional was a bit bland and there was honestly too much. It was ok, just not the most amazing thing I've ever had. I'd go back but would try something else. Our service was great. The waitress was attentive and our glasses were never empty. read more

Now that I've tried Darcy's, I make a point to visit every time I come through Springfield. Came by for lunch and ordered the buffalo chicken pony shoe. The pony shoe is the size of a dinner plate which is way too much for me for lunch but it was so good that I could stop munching on it until I was painfully full. I love how their food is consistent. The cheese sauce was delicious and just the right temperature, the fries were nice and crispy and held up well under the cheese sauce. As I mentioned before, they serve their buffalo sauce on the side which is nice because it allows you to regulate the intensity of the buffalo sauce so it's not overwhelming the other flavors. Service was good and we received our food fairly quickly. Lunch cost about $20 for two pony shoes and two drinks The only downside to eating a horseshoe at Darcy's is it sets the bar too high for other horseshoes to compete at. read more

Next time, I'll stick with the sandwich and a side of fries. My mom ordered a grilled chicken sandwich, that she really liked, with a side salad. A horseshoe is an open faced sandwich covered with a cheese sauce and fries. Definitely a "cheat" day meal. I was impressed with the quality of the hamburger meat. A real burger. Not just a skimpy frozen patty. The meat had a good fresh taste. We went on Friday night when it was extremely busy. This didn't stop the good service. I see D'arcy's in a blog of places to eat in Central IL about a year ago. And FINALLY.... I had the chance to go. At first glance, it's really not what you would expect of a local pub. A very larger, chain store location and you can tell the building is newer, but they want to attempt to keep the "local pub" feeling. (It's not working) Is it American?! Is it Irish?! Is it a sports bar? Is it a restaurant?! Wait what?!!... I'm confuse. The hostess was Hayden Panettiere looking girl, who prepply chewed her gum and routinely ask every person the same questions without a smile(yes there were busy, yes your job is still customer service). #notimpressed We got a table in reasonable time and our waiter was very helpful and sweet. He answered all out questions and was honest about which meats are frozen and which ones are fresh. He got drinks and our appetizers faster than I would have anticipated since they were so busy. Out food was just ok. After all the good reviews on Yelp and the mention in the food blog I expected better. I love a good horseshoes since I'm from IL, but this wasn't my favorite. I saw this place on Man vs Food and the Horse Shoe looked so good, I convinced my husband that we had to try it. And I'm so glad we did! I had the Buffalo Chicken Horseshoe and it was excellent - the cheese sauce was amazing without being to heavy. It was a great combination of flavors between the crispy chicken and fries mixed with the ranch and hot sauce. Seriously good! My husband had a sandwich and he really enjoyed it too.
