    4 Piece Chicken Strips

This is my second time at Pepper's and both experiences were nearly identical. The service is average, the cleanliness is average, the pricing is too high but the food is really good. Take a look at the photo - I mean those are the largest chicken strips I have ever seen in a restaurant. The other two co-workers with me could not believe the size, one even said, "they gave you a whole chicken" and we all had a chuckle. I would come back again but only for the quality of meals - everything else needs polished up!

    Breakfast Horseshoe

Came in when I was in the area for training, as I was looking for brunch and thought it would be fun to have a Beatles-themed brunch. Well besides the name and some pictures on the wall, that is where it stopped. (Thought maybe they would have some Beatles tunes or Beatles Pandora on, but oh well.) Food- My friend and I ordered brunch (I ordered the skillet and she ordered the breakfast horseshoe). The food had little flavor and came out barely warm. My friend said the susage gravy had very little flavor and tasted store bought. Service- The service was slow and seemed like they were very unhappy to be there. We saw our server twice, once to take our order and once to bring the food. We wanted refills, but she was nowhere to be found. Also, not sure of this is normal, but they were only accepting cash that day, so there is that they should be known in case. Overall not impressed and won't be in a hurry to return.

Cook was a little overzealous with the oil...

Stopped in for breakfast-for-lunch while in town. Not a bad place, not fantastic, either. My table was a bit too much on the sticky side, coffee was "just ok," and the cook used way to much oil on the griddle. Has browns were nice and crispy, and the Denver Omelet tasted good, it was just oily. Not great, but better than Denny's. Service was friendly as well.

This is a great non chain eatery. My husband and I came in for breakfast today and we were immediately greeted with smiling faces and a welcome. My husband got the All American breakfast and I got oatmeal with sourdough toast. We also decided to try their cinnamon roll which was pretty good. Over all the food was awesome, amazing so fresh and Midwest tasting. We miss the Midwest cooking in Phoenix. If you are ever in Springfield, IL stop by you won't be disappointed.

Food is good. Service is a bit slow. If your a Beatles fan, stop in. The walls are covered with great shots. Horseshoe sandwich is crazy food. Add onions and mushrooms to top it off. Didn't hate it but didn't fall over backwards loving it either

    Life is full.

Great breakfast stop on our way to St. Louis for a Cardinals day game! Known for their Breakfast Pony Shoe, here are the options for it plus our family's top recommendation! - Pick Crispy Hashbrowns, Country Potatoes or French Fries (hashbrowns are awesome!) - If you pick Gravy, you get a biscuit underneath your potatoes of choice - If you pick the cheese sauce you get a piece of Texas toast under your potatoes of choice - Yellow Cheese = melted Velveeta-ish - White Cheese = slightly spicy melted Pepper Jack - You get to choose from sausage patty, ham slice or strips of bacon. - 2 eggs of your choice Best Combo: Country Potatoes with sausage and gravy It hit the spot before we hit the road! Enjoy!

Supposed to be a small chef salad but if we wanted ham and turkey it was extra!!

The sign says Home of the Horseshoe. SMH!! Mom and I went here for a very late lunch after getting my grandpa moved into his new room at the nursing home right down the street. There was one server and she did a good job considering she was there alone and 6 or 7 other tables had people eating. We ordered a hamburger ponyshoe with 1/2 and 1/2 cheese sauces, meaning yellow on half and spicy white on the other. Since we were sharing we also ordered a small chef salad. The food came out quick enough and I was excited bc the fries looked great. Unfortunately that's were the excitement ended. They're yellow cheese sauce is melted Velvetta!!! And they're spicy white was pepper jack cheese sauce. What a joke. If you know anything about the famous Springfield horseshoe, that you can get at almost every local restaurant in town, you know what I mean about this not being good cheese sauce. Definitely nothing original or tasty about it. And for $9, bad cheese sauce and a frozen not fresh hamburger patty, I would not go back for another. Then the salad. It was bagged shredded lettuce that you buy at the store for tacos, with 2 slices of cucumbers, cheese, egg, tomatoes and croutons. When we were ordering and told her the menu said small chef salad she asked if we wanted to pay more to add meat. Huh??? Isn't that what is supposed to come on a small chef. Especially for $6! After telling friends about our experience they did say this place has good breakfast, but I will definitely not return for lunch.

My simple breakfast was yummy, and a dish of mango too. Great service and The Beatles music playing in the background. Nice place!

Very high prices for breakfast and skimpy portions. They also charge a convenience fee on top of a service charge if you use a card to pay.

Thankfully we still were able to get one cider, and they had a selection of other beers. The cider was tart and refreshing, and I really like the berry mocktail, which had ginger beer, and a mix of berries in it. As for food, the Nashville hot chicken sandwich came with a lot of heat which was great. I got the dry rub version, which is spicer than the saucy version. The horseshoe sandwich is a local favorite, which is an open faced sandwich with sliced bread topped with meat (we got the angus beef), fries, and cheese sauce. It was quite heavy and creamy because of all the sauce. Overall we enjoyed our meal and our server was very friendly, although service was on the slower side.

The building is beautiful, the location is perfect, and we thought, "Hey, maybe those bad reviews were just people having a bad day." Spoiler alert: they were not. Service started strong. We were seated right away, and they even brought coloring pages for our kids -- a nice touch that gave us false hope. Then the food arrived, and it was like watching a plot twist in a bad movie. I ordered the Buffalo Chicken Pony Shoe. It came out looking like someone microwaved a bag of frozen chicken tenders and tossed them in buffalo sauce for moral support. The cheese sauce might have been homemade -- it was grainy enough to make me believe someone whisked it themselves -- but there was barely any. Also, who hides the cheese under the fries? That's the star of the show! I had to beg for more, and even then it arrived lukewarm, much like my excitement for the meal. My wife ordered the Pork Schnitzel with "spaetzle." Except it wasn't schnitzel; it was a pork cutlet that had clearly seen the inside of a freezer longer than most people's leftovers. And the "spaetzle"? Nope. Straight-up spaghetti noodles. The mushroom sauce tasted like it came straight from a can labeled Cream of Disappointment. Two of the kids got cheese pizza -- or as I like to call it, "Frozen Circle of Regret." My son's "chips" were somehow both soggy and chewy, a texture I didn't even know existed. Frying them until they're crunchy shouldn't be rocket science, but here we are. Everything was bland, flavorless, and missing any sign of seasoning. The best dish of the entire meal? My daughter's burger on her Pony Shoe -- mostly because it resembled real food. And just to add a little flair, nearly every plate was dusted with dried parsley. Because, of course, nothing says fine dining like sprinkling dried parsley on frozen food. This place has serious potential -- it's got the space, the charm, and the perfect downtown vibe. But if your secret ingredient is "frozen," no amount of parsley is going to save you.
