The owner is a very friendly gentleman who has been here for years. I love coming here and supporting all the good local work he does, such as the free Thanksgiving dinners he's hosted in the past. He let me in right after 6AM, made a fresh pot of coffee, and cooked my breakfast this morning. I had a breakfast horseshoe with bacon, scrambled eggs, gravy, and hashbrowns on top of biscuits. There was more than enough for me to take leftovers to work for lunch. The "oldies" music was a good volume and I got to read a little bit while I waited. Overall still one of my favorite restaurants in town, and definitely love supporting local businesses. read more

This is my second time at Pepper's and both experiences were nearly identical. The service is average, the cleanliness is average, the pricing is too high but the food is really good. Take a look at the photo - I mean those are the largest chicken strips I have ever seen in a restaurant. The other two co-workers with me could not believe the size, one even said, "they gave you a whole chicken" and we all had a chuckle. This is a great non chain eatery. My husband and I came in for breakfast today and we were immediately greeted with smiling faces and a welcome. My husband got the All American breakfast and I got oatmeal with sourdough toast. We also decided to try their cinnamon roll which was pretty good. The food came out quick enough and I was excited bc the fries looked great. Unfortunately that's were the excitement ended. They're yellow cheese sauce is melted Velvetta!!! And they're spicy white was pepper jack cheese sauce. What a joke. If you know anything about the famous Springfield horseshoe, that you can get at almost every local restaurant in town, you know what I mean about this not being good cheese sauce. Definitely nothing original or tasty about it. And for $9, bad cheese sauce and a frozen not fresh hamburger patty, I would not go back for another. Then the salad. It was bagged shredded lettuce that you buy at the store for tacos, with 2 slices of cucumbers, cheese, egg, tomatoes and croutons. Let's see.. I made a order to eat at home. Pretty much everything was screwed up. I ordered a iced coffee with sweet n low.. they made it hot. I didn't complain upon pick up bc I like hot coffee too. I have eaten hear several times and it just appears to have slow service and bad food all the timid. I don't understand how they stay busy and in business. Today we ate there I ordered sausages and they brought me bacon. When the waitress talked to the manager they got my sausages and took the bacon off the plate without tongs or gloves, she used her bare hands. Tables are sticky, and the floors obviously need to be swept. Out of all the boothes only 3 did NOT have ripped up seat cushions. There was dirty napkins and food under several tables. The coffee was week, like carmel colored water. I had the 2 eggs with hashbrowns and toast. The only saving grace is they know how to make eggs. I'm from Springfield and always support local business instead of chains if possible. I've gone to Sht Peppers for years and it is a solid breakfast/lunch place. But wow have they slipped on service. Today it took an hour for our breakfast, which obviously sat a bit and then made a trip to a nearby table before coming to us. Breakfast was ice cold by the time we got it. First, the owner was rushing us through the order and kept talking over us. The scrambled eggs and omlete were the only items that were not burnt, every thing else was inedible. A mixed bag of reviews here but we decided to check this place out for breakfast one Sunday morning based on the hash brown review alone. Love me some hashbrowns and Sgt Pepper's has some great fried shreds. Busy after church crowd but we were seated in 10 min, waitress was friendly and prompt for being so busy. This review primarily deals with the service we had in this restaurant, not the food. The food was actually A-OK, but the service was ridiculous. There was barely anyone in here when we arrived but we still waited almost 15 minutes for a table. We could see empty tables all over the place, some that needed busing, but the service was so slow that nothing was happening in terms of getting seated. By the time we were given a table, we had to wait almost 20 minutes for drink service and to order. We were very, very close to leaving but we had read Yelp reviews of this place and how it was better than some chains, so we hesitated. By the time we were ready to get up, a server appeared and we ordered. The corned beef hash was diner-quality excellent. I really enjoyed my choice and regretted not getting it "Horseshoe" style, which means covered in some kind of melted cheese. My husband was less than enthused by his "horseshoe" since he felt like it was just too much shit piled on a plate, covered with melted cheese - very hard to eat. All in all, decent food but the service is AWFUL. Even when this place isn't that busy, it's incredibly slow to get any drinks or food and forget about refills. Not worth it if you have more than two people, unless you plan to wait hours. read more

On our last visit we were taken care of just fine, while TWO tables of people sitting within 10 feet of us left before even placing their orders. Never had anything here that was truly bad, but by the same token, never had anything here that was truly great. The omelets are big and pretty good as are the hash browns. They have 2 basic cheese sauces you can get on your horseshoe - I recommend the spicy. The buffalo chicken is also pretty good. They do not serve any alcohol, so it's soft drinks, tea or coffee to drink. The inner décor is, as the name would suggest, done in a Beatles theme and there are some interesting photos and collectibles on the walls. Again, Sgt. Pepper's is middle of the road; you aren't going to get your best ever meal here, but you won't get your worst ever meal either. You should give them a try and form your own opinion. read more

We found this little gem of a restaurant last year. It has a very extensive menu which can be a bit overwhelming. It is the kind of place you could go to over and over and never order the same thing.
