Cypriana of Roland Park is standard Greek food in the area. It is a neat looking place. The food was fair. Portions were very small, despite the price tag. Hummus with one pita for $17 is very steep. Some of the dishes were good, however. Parking can be difficult to find. read more

This restaurant was a real find for my husband and me, returning from California for a visit to see friends and family in Baltimore where my husband grew up. Sam, our waiter, was enormously helpful. With his advice, we started with hummus and pita bread, which were delicious and clearly very fresh. For the main course, my husband had grilled jumbo shrimp and I had grilled portobella mushroom. The chef's hummus was actually a spread out hummus with cooked eggplant in the middle. The pita bread was pretty fresh and herbed. The halloumi cheese -was only 3 little pieces I would of liked a big block of that for my appetizer..not a taster sized pieces posing as an appetizer... oh well, it was still good. Parking was street parking. Ambiance was alright. There was a rack stacked with wine boxes and scattered empty wine bottles. We were seated next to that. The food at Cypriana is AMAZING. We love Greek food, but are used to it being much cheaper, so we were a little skeptical. We started with the smaller classic hummus, which came with a huge fresh fluffy pita. The amount was more than enough for an app for 2. The best small plate we got was the moussaka of Cyprus - I've never tasted a creamier béchamel, and the meat was perfectly seasoned. Close second was the falafel (note - it's crispier on the outside than most falafel I've had, most likely because it's finer/creamier on the inside). We liked the flavor of the Mougendra, but there just wasn't that much to it. DO NOT leave without getting the Pistachio Sea Salt Baklava. We were debating whether we wanted dessert and holy moly are we glad that we did. Service is friendly and great. Beer is really expensive (Natty Boh is $7). Cocktails too (nothing under $13). Wine is $7+. Also, parking in the lot across the street is free, and the ticket machine hasn't worked for awhile, so you don't really need it validated. read more

We had our first meal here and it was fantastic! We started with stuffed grape leaves and humus appetizers and they were next level fresh. The next time we go, we will get a bunch of small plates just to sample as many things as possible. The salmon entree was amazing as were the filet beef kabobs. There are plenty of vegan options if that floats your boat.The outside dining area was surprisingly large. The staff there really seems to work as a team . Our waitress, Grace, was exceptional! The server was wonderfully friendly and knowledgeable; the actual service was very slow, though not her fault. The food, however, was mediocre and disappointing. I ordered the chicken which sounded great on the menu; it was overdone and dry-probably should have sent it back but didn't bother. My husband ordered the octopus-it was done well and very tasty, but a very small portion and not something you should order if you are hungry. We had the hummus-really good, the greek salad was not as good as it could have been. Maybe it was just an off night. We should probably give it another and hope it was just an off night. read more

After hearing lots of praise about Cypriana, I was excited to dig into their acclaimed dishes. Overall impression? Tasty for sure, but a bit overpriced in my opinion. I ordered the small salad sampler + added falafel and a small classic hummus. For $15 for the sampler (+$2 for one falafel) and $9 for the hummus, I was expecting a bit more portions wise. Let's talk basics first--hummus and pita. The pita was thick with just the right amount of chewy doughy texture. Brushed with olive oil and za'atar, this is pita done right. The hummus was blended to perfection and peppered with black sesame seeds. I will say though, a little heavy handed with the olive oil. I found myself pouring off a good deal so as not to detract from the full hummus flavor. The salads that the sampler came with were what I would characterize as solid bites but nothing that blew me away. I think I'll keep this spot on my list to try some additional dishes but not sure it'll become a go-to with the price/portions ratio. read more

This was my second dining experience at Cyprianna of Roland Park. The first evening was outstanding (2021), the second was even better. We had the hummus as an appetizer, delic! The main portion was Lamb Shank, WOW!!! Tender, tasty w/ some wonderful dipping sauces. The portions were very generous and delicious. Great food.... TERRIBLE SERVICE. My boyfriend and I had a Saturday date-night here a few weeks ago and I'm just now getting around to posting a review. We both love Mediterranean food and discovered this place last Valentine's Day (2/2019). We loved the food and for the place being so packed at the time, the service was good. So we returned. It was one of the first Saturdays after Christmas and the place wasn't very busy... there were a few large groups seated after us. Our server was friendly enough, but didn't seem polished for this level of restaurant. He brought my boyfriend a bottle of red to the table that was almost empty, proceeded to pour the almost empty bottle into his glass, then stood there and opened a new bottle, MEASURED IT right there at the table, then poured the remainder. I get that you have to keep an eye on your inventory... but this does NOT make a good impression! If you must measure, do it behind the scenes, for God's sake and don't pour from an almost empty bottle. I expect a "measured" glass of wine at a chain like Cheesecake Factory; not at a high-end establishment. We split the Classic Hummus & Wood-Baked Pita Bread which came out promptly, with a beautiful presentation and was unreal! The hummus itself was amazing; the warm pita sent it over the edge. We waited far too long for the server to reappear for a second request for wine. He brought it, but did not clear any of the dishes. Our small table was quickly filling up with appetizer plates, dishes, and empty wine glasses, and he seemed to not even notice.... so I turned around and started stacking the dishes on the window-sill behind me to clear space for our dinner. I couldn't believe it! I had the crab-cakes which were to die for. Hardly any filler and I loved the Mediterranean spin with having a Tzatziki-type sauce on the side. Tim had a steak which was also very good. By the time we finished our meals, our server had all but disappeared and I had become so frustrated and upset with his lack of attentiveness, we decided to skip dessert and just leave. We waited and waited and waited and I finally got out of my seat to find someone who'd help me; found the hostess and asked her to bring our check and a box for leftovers. She did so, but with no apology whatsoever. While we waited for the check to arrive, our server finally showed up and asked us if we wanted dessert to which I told him we were already getting our check. My boyfriend and I dine out quite often. With all the choices of places to eat these days, I just don't understand why a high-end establishment like Cypriana wouldn't train their servers in customer service and basic serving skills. To me, you can have a top-notch chef on board, amazing food, and atmosphere, but if the element of good service is missing... if you mistreat your customers and have servers who IGNORE their patrons and make them have to search down people to provide them service... you will lose business quickly. He also left money on the table as we would have ordered more wine and a dessert had he not treated us so badly. I'm pretty easy to please. Bring me a glass of wine in a timely fashion, serve good food, and do not ignore me. Am I asking too much? I doubt we'll return to Cypriana. It's a shame, too... because the food is outstanding. But I can name 10 other places we'd select over Cypriana to spend our money where the service is up to par with the food. read more

Started off well. Small and medium-sized dishes were quite good. We did this tapas style for 3 people. Ordered the lamb chops to share - 4 chops. Tasted like the cap came off the salt shaker. I should have asked about the 'market price' of the dish - shocked to see on the bill that it was $60 for something whose quality was what you could get at a chain mediterranean or middle-eastern restaurant. Was also offered an extra piece of pita for a hummus dish and found that we were also charged an extra $5 for that. So overall, decent but larger 'market price' (most of the large dishes) are disproportionately more expensive (surprisingly so) to the reasonable pricing for the rest of the menu and definitely not as well executed as the others. read more

Cypriana was exceptional! We went on a rainy Thursday night and it was extremely lively! We ordered the Chefs Hummus, Halloumi Saganaki, and Meatballs as appetizers! The Chefs Hummus was wonderful but we felt that the eggplant made it a little tangy which we didn't expect. Halloumi was to die for! I am a vegetarian so I did not have the meatballs but my boyfriend and friend raved about it. I had the Falafel for dinner and it was the best I've had! The Falafel was moist and soft with the right amount of sauce. It came with a side of french fries that had some kind of lemon seasoning which I was not a big fan of. My dish also came with a tangy lemon sauce that I could have done without. Overall - this is an excellent place for any occasion! First, I should say how much I really wanted to fall in love with this place. I love Mediterranean food, I haven't found a place in the city that has fantastic food, and Cypriana is close to our house. Unfortunately, I think my search continues... The good: our appetizers were excellent. We got the chef's hummus and the grilled halloumi. The tears of Chios drink was also lovely. I'd be tempted to go back for just these things. The okay: my husband ordered the eau de lavender drink and it was just okay. Egg white drinks need more shaking and the bartender wasn't in it to create a solid foam on top of the sour. The service was also just okay. Our waiter was sweet, but a few things were forgotten until we asked or just overlooked entirely. The bad: we called to make our reservation. In doing so, we asked about outdoor dining and covid precautions. The person my husband spoke to assured him that although outdoor seating was unavailable, they had strict policies to prevent transmission. We went during a time when there is an indoor mask mandate, however more than half of the staff (including presumably the owner) were walking around without masks. We overheard a hostess tell another guest that she didn't need a mask when she saw us wearing ours and asked. It's one thing to ignore the mandate but don't act like you're taking precautions when you're ignoring them. More bad: I ordered the lamb chops and my husband ordered the chicken tenderloin. Both were overcooked. The lamb had a really good flavor but the chicken was just chicken. Sides were very nice. read more

We've heard about this place for years, and were excited to finally try it. When we arrived, we were greeted warmly by the owner, and felt quite at home. On the way out to the patio, we noticed that there was a large rehearsal dinner happening inside. Soon, we realized that we were in trouble. The waitress came to our table quickly, and told us we better get our entree orders in soon. Not exactly a relaxing way to start dinner. Not all of us were ready, but we did as she suggested. The appetizers came fairly quickly, and they were good. But then, we waited. And waited. And waited. It took 90 minutes to receive our entrees from the time we were seated. At one point, the owner came by to "check on us." We had no water in our water glasses, and only crumbs remained from the appetizers. "How are you liking everything?" he asked. We glared at him, as there was no food in front of us. "Well, you must have had SOME food, right?" Yes, we answered. About an hour ago we had some hummus. The waitress apologized for the wait, and we said we understood. And we did, to a point. But we were hungry, and agitated. At long last, our food came. And you know what? It was a major disappointment. When you charge as much as they do for an entree, you expect a decent presentation. And a decent portion. We got neither. The plates were pretty small, and the food smaller. The beef tenderloin shish-ka-bob was sugar-cube sized, and there were only a few. The salmon was minisucle. And on and on it went, around our table. I know that "fancy" restaurants often have smaller portion sizes. But this wasn't fancy. It was thrown on a plate. We finished our meals pretty quickly, in part because we were hungry, and in part because we had been there for HOURS. To make matters worse, they seated us under the ONLY security light on the patio, so the bright light was shining like a spotlight in a few of our eyes. Capping off the evening, we were informed that our small group would nonetheless be charged an automatic 20% tip. I looked it up later and it's apparently protection for their workers during COVID. That's nice and all, and honestly, we usually tip more than 20%. But if you want to protect your workers -- most of whom appeared to be very young and inexperienced -- PAY THEM MORE. Don't take advantage of their youth and vulnerability, and pay them less than minimum wage. As we walked out, the owner asked how everything was. I was so angry I couldn't look at him. It's great that they got a big rehearsal dinner that night, but maybe don't take reservations you're not at all prepared to service. And if you DO take us, maybe consider taking something off the check for the inconvenience of waiting hours to be served. This place seems to be riding on its reputation. If you want small amounts of overpriced food that you have to wait hours for, this is your place. Otherwise, move on. read more

Over priced and lacking any essence of flavor:. $35 for 3 one inch square knots of dry lamb(3 lamb chops) with not even a dusting of any seasoning or hint of flavor, 2 tablespoons of cucumber salad and about ten 1.5 long French fries. We went on Mothers Day and sat out on their patio. The food was okay. What they claimed as the 'best falafels in Baltimore' was sorely disappointing. They were dry and not seasoned very well. The others dishes were average at best. Except for the hummus and pita, in which the latter I felt they could provided more of than just a 3 x 5 inch piece. We were a party of 4 and our server kept skipping/ignoring my teen son to ask about his order. From where she stood to take our orders, did she have some sort of visual and/or auditory deficit on her right side that she couldn't see him to ask his drink and entree order? When ever I have a friend visiting from out of town or the country and want to show them what Baltimore has to offer, I always take them to Cypriana because the food is consistently amazing and the service is wonderful. My personal favorites are the lamb chops, grilled octopus and their humus is legendary! If you're dining along, the bar atmosphere is always welcoming and that welcoming spirit seems to be embraced by Cypriana's patrons. What ever you do leave room for dessert! I have been quite regular at this restaurant since it opened in the Tuscany/Roland Park area. My wife and I enjoy sitting in the bar area. We start of with cocktails usually and they have always been consistent. Well, mixed, well garnished and shaken on ice when needed (not just poured into a glass). The bartenders are very attentive, making sure we never had an empty glass. The bacon infused Old Fashioned is my drink of choice. The Tomato Feta wood oven flat bread is the perfect share plate and the grape leaves taste unlike any other Mediterranean place I have been to. The food is always visually appealing and tastes even better. It is not the generic stuff that other similar themed restaurants would have. You can taste the quality in the ingredients (beef skewers or the salmon are my two go to entrees). They added a Happy Hour Menu that has a gyro slider on it that I have been quite fond of lately. Overall all the atmosphere is inviting and I can't think of another place that provides as good value for the high quality of food, drinks and service. I don't want to give them 4 stars because we had a bit lack-luster service for a large group (kind of understandable on a Friday night, yes)... but the food was super good so I'd honestly go back and try again. Be warned to not bring your group of 15 or just be willing to wait a long time for the whole process. ...But ok, the food is delicious. We started with hummus and the feta appetizer- wow. It's a memorable experience. Someone told me before I went that it'd be the best hummus in the US, and I was like "no way"... but honestly they might have been right. The pita bread was ridiculously good too. Then for my entree I had the pork belly & butt with tabouli and fries. It was very tasty, maybe a bit dry, but definitely worthwhile. The fries are very gourmet and I welcomed the fresh tabouli as a nice pairing. Be aware the portions aren't very big. I personally was happy, but maybe a hungry dude should order an app- like definitely don't order one small plate for yourself only. The service, like I said was super slow.
