Came for restaurant week with some friends. It was AYCE mezzes, with mostly vegetarian and vegan options. The nonveg options were all mixed with lamb and beef. The hummus & pita was great and the falafel was really soft. The fried cheese mezze was good as well, but the rest of it was unremarkable. Even the desserts were okay, and the baklava was soggy and not good. Ambiance is nice. Service was good, but we were seated about 10 min later because the kitchen was running behind. I hope it was just a fluke experience because it was restaurant week and maybe their entrees are better, but I will likely not return for a second try. read more

3/5 - Great Service but food and drinks can get better from a vegetarian's perspective. Service (1/1) - Cypriana's service is top notch. From the attentive servers, to owners coming out to chat and share their stories, the service was excellent. There isn't much I would change from what they're doing right now. My server was fully attentive even with a packed house. She helped us make the right choices based on our vegetarian diet. Setting (0.25/1) - Perhaps because we were placed in the middle of the hallway and I was facing the doors to the kitchen, I didn't have a great view overall. If they had extended the dividers, I would have felt a bit more cozy and special. Other tables may have a different perception on this but I didn't get a different table so... Drinks (0.5/1) - I really can't say much about this. My drink was just okay okay. In hindsight I should have picked a wine or beer but all the special drinks I initially selected were "not available" so I had to go with some just off the top. To provide a special drinks menu but not have half of it available was disappointing. Food (1/2) - The good - lots of vegetarian options. The bad - they lacked flavor and seasoning. Their best food for me was their pita and hummus. Chef's special pita isn't worth the "upgrade" in my opinion as just the pita and hummus can deliver. Second, the falafel are amazing. They were fresh, flavor packed, and crunchy yet delicate inside. But that's where the good parts end. Rest of my adventures from their menu were letting me down. Like the side fries were just too oily, or the Moussaka lacking proper seasoning. The grape leaves or the crispy cheese puffs, most were just salty. After trying 7-8 different items, only two seemed unique in flavor profile. This place has lots of potential, the people are nice, and they have great options for vegetarians. I'd like to see them improve a bit more on their offerings so I can give it another try. read more

My favorite thing from this place was the dessert. If you see galaktoboureko on the menu, it's definitely worth checking out. Everything else, I am not sure I can speak as highly of. They fell on the saltier side of seasoning which I am not too fond of. We got the salad & dip sampler with hand-crafted wood-baked pita, moussaka of cyprus (on the salty end for me, but my friends said this one is their favorite), grilled portobello mushroom (I liked this best but did not like the sauce too much), sheftalies (felt the meat was not juicy), grilled Australian lamb chop side (a bit gamey). Our server was great! (Shout out to Sofia who was attentive and knowledgeable on the menu to share recommendations or provide us with answers to questions the had on menu items we were deciding between). The deduction of stars for me falls heavily on serving utensils were less than ideal (especially at the price point of this place). 2 sets of knives we got had food remnants on it, I didn't take photos but my friend did. As a lover of Greek food, I was so excited to try their menu for Baltimore Winter Restaurant week. They were offering unlimited mezzedes (small plates) for $45. My experience was very underwhelming. The positives: I liked that there is a parking lot across the street specifically for the restaurant because street parking is very limited. We were greeted and seated right away. Our server was nice and tried her best to be attentive even though the kitchen was so backed up and moving at a snails pace. The pita bread was delicious. The desserts were great. My favorites were the baklava and loukoumades. Really the only dessert I didn't care for was the chocolate rum and roses cake because I'm not a big rose fan because it has the tendency of overpowering the other flavors in certain treats. The negatives: The kitchen was very slow at getting things out, even though the restaurant wasn't packed. Aside from the desserts, I didn't care for the food. The biggest issue was everything was lukewarm by the time we received it at our table. The hummus was just ok. The bread was great alone. The Greek village salad had way more feta than anything else and needed more oil and vinegar. The spanakopita was ok but some batches came out burnt but they were never hot. The Cyprus meatballs were so burnt that we couldn't even eat them. The lamb and beef dip was too salty. The stuffed grapes leaves were just ok. The macaronia tou fournou had the potential to be really good but it was not warm enough. I want to believe it was just a bad night and maybe their food is better outside of restaurant week but I'm afraid to try again and be disappointed. This is such a hidden gem! The ambiance was so cute, dark and rustic. We tried their unlimited mezze for restaurant week and we absolutely loved it! We tried a little from each area because they offer options for vegans, meat lovers, and vegetarians- I was blown away with how flavorful each dish was. Cypriana was quite a treat. We had a reservation and were immediately seated. There are two different seating areas. One is more of an expected dining room, and the other is a table space near the bar. We were seated in the latter section. I will say this was my only minor complaint. It seems like they want to be an upscale dining experience, but the presence of TVs playing sports is killing the vibe. However, the service and food by far compensated for that. Carolyn (I believe was her name) was our server, and she was just fantastic. She was pleasant and attentive. My daughter and I split four of the mezzedes, and I ordered the mushroom soup and she ordered a side of lemon potatoes. My favorite dish was the wood-fired olives. Simple, but so very good. She loved the halloumi so much, we got a second order (it is a super small serving). The spanikopita, on the other hand, was quite large and meant for sharing. We're vegetarian and found the options both bountiful and delectable. While it is a bit on the pricey end of the spectrum, I'd say it's worth it. read more

Food was fantastic. Service was great. But why is there a tv playing football? We had a reservation for 5 today. As it opened and was immediately seated. Interestingly there's more space between table in the bar area and was actually quieter. I'd recommend asking to be seated over there if possible. The wood fired olives were an excellent mezze as well as the spinach pie and halloumi. The halloumi is so simple yet so delicious. The mushroom soup was delicious but gone way too fast. The lamb shank was great and tender. I've had a lamb shank and pork shank now. I couldn't tell the difference in the flavor but the lamb was definitely more tender. Recommended but if you're feeling extra, go for the lamb chops. Cypriana feels it wants to be more upscale and is working towards that goal with the food and the decor but needs to get rid of the TV. Definitely subtracted from the vibe. Christmas music being played was excellent and when they heard the pixie where is my head sneak into the Playlist they quickly skipped it. We had a great meal here last week!!! Parking was easy- there is a small reserved area for the restaurant in the lot across the street. The restaurant itself had more of an industrial vibe, which I was not fully expecting. I am not sure if it matched the food and rest of the ambiance of the restaurant, so that threw me a little bit. The food and cocktails were AMAZING. Everything we ate was so so good. No feedback on the food. The hosts and owners (?) were super friendly- they swung by our table and talked to us about our experience, the different foods, how the rice pudding is an 8th generational recipe- all the home-y wonderful things that made the meal so special. Fabulous food! All the servers are super. It can become quite busy, then the bar and services are a little overwhelmed. So, depending how busy it is, you might want to order your drinks first... Definitely make reservations. This is a great place to take your time and enjoy your food. You never feel rushed. The ambiance is okay. Tables in the restaurant area quite close together. I visited Cypriana with colleagues for an impromptu happy hour on a Thursday evening. Mezzedes were 1/2 off and cocktails were $2 off. I ordered crab dip to share with a friend. I was surprised when it was served because the constituency was very thin and not dip-able at all. My friend raised this with the bartender who explained this was Fiorentina style and that's why the texture was different. It did have large lumps of crab meat but it really was not a dip at all, and not conducive to sharing with a friend. Truly it was more like a bisque and meant to be eaten like a soup. I would not order this in the future because it's not for me. I think the menu could benefit from a little more detailed description of this to help other guests. I had the Eau De Lavender cocktail. It tasted more like a margarita and the lavender was noticeably absent. I did not raise this with the bartender because I still enjoyed it nonetheless. I would try it again in the future to see if the lavender is more present. Other dishes enjoyed by my group: Lamb and beef dip (pictured)- was told it was very good Traditional Country Spinach pie- looked absolutely delicious and heard it was fantastic. Wish I would have tasted it, the pastry looked buttery, flaky and delicious. Falafel - also great reviews from my guests. Our bartender was friendly and prompt and exchanged the dip without issue since we each only tried one "bite". Food was excellent, nice quiet atmosphere, service was good EXCEPT when it came time to pay the bill. I was given the black bifold bill presenter with my itemised bill. Everything looked correct so I put my Chase Sapphire Reserve card in the top inside clear pocket. A little while later the bifold was returned to our table for me to sign the merchant copy and to keep my itemised bill and duplicate customer copy. We were enjoying the moment and I didn't notice if my credit card was there or not, and I admit I just forgot to look for it. I left a $25 cash tip and the signed merchant copy in the bifold bill presenter and we left. Two days later I wanted to use my Chase Sapphire Reserve card but could not find it. I looked everywhere I might have put it, but no card. I called Cypriana; hostess answered and explained that my last charge was there, and I may have forgotten it there. I was told all forgotten credit card are either in the register drawer or in the office safe. She looked both places but It was not there. So I continued looking for my card to no avail. I called Cypriana a second time the following day and spoke to management who looked and confirmed again it was not in register or office safe. So I called Chase and cancelled the card. A few hours later someone from Cypriana called and said my card was found in a stack of the bifold bill presenters. Somehow I can't imagine the server found her $25 tip and the signed merchant copy but did not see my credit card there and make an attempt to return it to me. Something very fishy about this! I picked up the card a few days later. I expressed my dissatisfaction to management about these events who never provided me with an adequate explanation why the card was not in the register or safe. The owner apologised and said he would text me a gift card for all the trouble I went through with the misplaced credit card. It's been a month, no gift card was ever texted to me!! read more

We were the only table present around the 5pm opening, but more parties started to arrive closer to 6pm, and a nice crowd ended up being in the dining and bar area. The service was truly the highlight. Our server was friendly and efficient. 5 star service! The food on the other hand was just okay overall. I loved the hummus and pita bread! The salad was even good-- but $14 for what appeared to be a side salad felt like a rip off. My chicken entree did not have a distinct flavor profile and tasted like something I would make for meal prep. Looking at the rest of the menu, other items were priced fairly high, and I didn't see how the ambience of the place matched the inflated cost of the food. Cypriana actually reminded me of being in Greece, which being in the heart of Baltimore, could be hard to do. They have all the traditional Greek food we know and love. Our server was every bit of perfect. The bar was full and lively. I actually love that about a place. The atmosphere for me was downright amazing. With all that being said, I can honestly say, I have had better food. The chicken lacked flavor but the cook was perfect. My salmon was super flavorful and cooked perfectly. My quinoa though, left a lot to be desired. Now the hummus danced on my taste buds while being engulfed in the softest pita I have ever tasted. The experience itself was very good. I would go again based on service and atmosphere alone. That's saying a lot for me as I'm usually all about the food. I'll likely just do Greek salad and salmon with hummus next time. They put a little bit at the bottom and then some around the plate. Nothing in the middle of the plate. One piece of pita bread. $14 Greek salad is like a side dish, came with a little bowl. It's not even a Greek salad but came with some white sauce. Sea bass is dry and frozen quality. Shrimp has no flavor as well. $28 with 4 shrimp in a small plate. Too bad. We only took one photo due to lost of appetite Service - a woman in dark black glasses walked around to all tables to chat except our table. Our server never paid attention to us or check on things. It seems like different ppl serve the same table but ours has one server who provided no service. She even did not change plate after appetizer and asked if we can continue to use the small plates for entree while we are sharing food. When we first sat down, she tried to sell us to buy the $45 per person unlimited small dishes. We were not hungry after a big lunch so we didn't buy that. We went to Cypriana last evening to celebrate our 4-year wedding anniversary. Parking was super easy and free across the street, just follow the signs for restaurant parking. I had reservations for inside but the weather had cleared up unexpectedly so we were able to sit outside. Sitting outside means that you are on a lovely deck in an urban canyon in the densely populated university area. It was nice to be outside but the view is mostly of brick walls and outside air conditioners on the windows. Still better than indoors! Our server was lovely and attentive. Cypriana assigns one server to each table which is amazing. We started with the hummus and pita to read the menu. They had a nice selection of beer on tap, including local selections. I had the Positive Mental Attitude which is made in Dundalk, Maryland. We decided to have four samplers and had the: Kofta meatballs, spinach pie, grilled feta, and stuffed grape leaves. The grilled feta was just mind blowing! Imagine a delicate salty cheese under a drizzle of honey-- this is a Mediterranean masterpiece! Went by on a Friday night with reservations. They have both bar and table seating. Ambience was good, did think the decor appeared somewhat half hazard with shelves and crates separating some tables. We were seated by the fireplace which was lovely. Our waiter Hannah was enthusiastic and professional, and made some great recommendations. On checking in with Yelp there was an offer for a free glass of wine with the entree. When we inquired about it they said it's no longer valid (from the pre pandemic era) which was disappointing. The cocktails all seemed great, and were about $14 each. We tried the salad sampler which I would highly recommend. The baked butter hummus was good, but I would not get it again as it's not as creamy as regular hummus. Pita bread was on point. For my entree tried the grilled portobello mushrooms with Cyprus fries. Mushrooms were yummy, the fries were interesting - I would say they are actually potato wedges. Dessert was my favorite bit - definitely try the Kunafa and chocolate loukoumades! Both were fantastic! I would go back just to eat the dessert. It's a little pricier than I was expecting. My wife and I rang in the new year at this cozy Greek gem in Baltimore, and we're still talking about it days later. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere had that perfect blend of festive and intimate. The food? Absolutely on point. We started with the spanakopita, which was buttery and flaky without being greasy. For our mains, my wife had honey feta (melt-in-your-mouth good), and I went for the lamb, which was fresh and generous without being overdone. And the tzatziki here deserves its own award. I ordered two gin and tonics, one with Stray Dog Gin (from Greece, has Mastixa) and one with Bombay Sapphire. The tonic came out of the beverage gun tube thing, but was decent. I normally go for fancy tonic! I hadn't tried the Stray Dog before and the new bartender wasn't able to describe how it was different, but she did let me read the bottle. I got the branzini which was seasoned perfectly with a nice crispy skin and flaky interior. The lemon potatoes had great flavor. My date got the lamb rib chops and they were so tender. I've been meaning to give Cypriana a try for forever so I was happy to grab dinner there on New Year's Eve. Every other upscale restaurant in the area was doing pre fixe menus for NYE that were in the $100+ per person range. My friend and I weren't trying to devour multiple courses or wine pairings before our big night out, so we were glad to see Cypriana offering their regular menu at normal prices for the night. Drinks: We ordered their espresso martinis which were great! Perfect amount of foam and not too sweet or too boozy. Appetizer: We shared the vegetarian grape leaves stuffed with mushroom to start. I liked the grape leaves but I wish they had another vegetarian variety that just had rice and veggies and not so heavy on the mushrooms. Dinner: I ordered the chicken platter which came with thick cut potato wedges and a cucumber and tomato salad. I really loved my chicken platter! The chicken was perfectly cooked and flavorful. The best part was the delicious white sauce it came with - perfect for dipping the potato wedges and chicken in. My friend got the shrimp served on a bed of quinoa with salad. My friend wasn't too crazy about her shrimp platter mainly because the quinoa wasn't cooked to her liking. The options are plentiful with vegan and vegetarian dishes clearly marked. The prices weren't crazy either with most dishes being around $15-$25. It was easy to make a reservation online (although I didn't receive a confirmation email which I thought was a little odd). Overall, I think I'll be back. Can't wait to stop by when it's warm enough to dine outside too. read more

Rated a 3 star but I would say more 3.5 and here is why... We went for Valentines day and even though it was not a prix fixe (which I can appreciate on a "holiday" like this), they still did not have the flatbreads and the espresso martini available. They also automatically added 25% gratuity to every check and only allowed bottles of wine to be served if you were dining at a table. The restaurant should promote good service that would warrant customers to want to tip the usual 20% or more to their servers. Also, options to order different wine to accompany your meal should be allowed versus requiring that the entire table drink the same wine or an entire bottle. The service overall was good and considering how busy it was, she was prompt and checked in on us frequently. The food was good. We ordered pretty much all of the appetizers and small plates. My favorite was the cripsy cheese puffs. My second was the Shettalies. The only suggestion I have to make it better is not to place the meat and veggies on separate sides of the pita pockets, it was hard to get a good bite of everything. Also, who I assume was the owner, shouted to us as he walked by that we eat the baklava with our hands and was very intrusive about it, no apologies as he walked by. For drinks, I ordered the Cypriana martini and it was not balanced at all, luckily my friend was willing to switch with me. They did offer the ladies a strawberry at the end which was a nice thought but I laughed at the fact they brought one strawberry to share between my friend and I.... despite our bill being over $300 for a table of 4, I thought they could have offered our own. read more

Mediocre phoned-in mezzes are what I was served. Maybe some of the main courses are good? The "greek salad" was straight off the SE Rycoff truck, even in delicious tomato season they're serving cherry tomatoes. Overcooked weird potatoes with glorpy sauce. Rubbery halloumi with over sweetened balsamic. Decent hummous, with 1 (one) nicely prepared pita, but jeez, its hard to blow hummous, and only ONE pita?? I've been to Cypriana twice now - once for dinner on New Years Eve with my family and once for brunch on a weekend with a friend. I like it! The food is Greek/Cypriot, and it has something for everyone. I've tried their: hummus (very good - creamy, smooth, and lots of tahini - just like I like it!), lots of their mezze (split into vegan, vegetarian, and non-veg), mains, and desserts! They have a broad and quite large menu - sure to have options for most people! Some of my favorites from the menu are: stuffed grape leaves (with lamb and beef, but they also have a vegan version stuffed with mushrooms and herbs), macaronia tou fournou (like pastitsio - I prefer the version with beef and lamb, but they also have a vegetarian version on the menu), hummus, lamb shank, and loukoumades! Something I love about Cyrpiana is how vegan-friendly it is - and how well marked vegan options are on the menu. My mom is vegan. And Cypriana made it easy for her to have as a great of a NYE meal as the non-vegans at the table. There's a vegan mezze section of the menu. We had the falafel, grilled portabella mushrooms, wild mushroom stuffed grape leaves, vegan moussaka, and mougendra (lentil and rice pilaf). (On NYE, they had a set vegan menu for 2 which included all this plus some salads, hummus, pita, and two veganized desserts - vegan loukoumades and vegan baklava. I'm not sure if they have these vegan desserts all the time or only because of the set menu!) The restaurant is quite large. It's nice but casual inside. They have a good selection of wines to choose from (including some Greek and Cypriot options). You can make reservations, but I have never visited when it appeared too busy for walk ins. The service is good. I enjoy eating at Cyrpiana. It's close enough to Hampden that we can walk over for brunch or dinner, so I'm sure I'll be back the next time I'm craving some stuffed grape leaves or pastitsio! read more
