TLDR: Decent Mediterranean eats in a cozy atmosphere. For Valentines Day a 25% auto gratuity, only wine by the bottle in the dining room and a rushed service rubbed me the wrong way. Vibe: 4/5. Located in Roland Park across from Homewood Field, Cypriana has a lovely location. One major perk is that they have their own private parking lot across the street, which is free for restaurant patrons. Inside, Cypriana gives off wine cellar vibes with its dimly lit interior and long stretching dining room. There is a nice sized bar as soon as you walk in that is perfect for after work drinks. The main dining room consists mostly of 2 and 4 top tables that can be pushed together for larger groups. Service: 2/5. Unfortunately Cypriana had several misses during our dinner, none to the fault of our server, but to the restaurant itself. We had a dinner reservation for 4 on Valentines Day, so understandably this is a special night for restaurants. Leading up to Valentines Day, Cypriana was advertising on social media some "very special things planned" for the big day, so we were extremely excited to see what they had in store. When we sat down at our table, we come to find out that the special for Valentines Day was a 25% automatic gratuity. That was the big surprise! Typically we tip 20%+ regardless, but having this forced upon us due to Valentines Day was irritating. Once our server arrived at our table and began going over the menu, she brought to our attention that just for Vday, Cypriana was only serving wine by the bottle and they were not serving their entire flatbread menu or their signature cocktail The Mati. So not only were we forced into paying more, but we were stuck with abbreviated food and drink offerings. Talk about pay more, get less. Even with all the immediate letdowns before ordering, we decided to trudge on through dinner. Food and drinks came out wickedly fast, sometimes too fast as our table became overloaded with full plates of food. The menu leans heavily towards appetizers and small plates so meal pacing is understandably difficult from a service standpoint. However, there were instances where we felt rushed by service to finish. Several waiters would come by trying to bus the same dish we were still working on which got old after the 2nd to 3rd time. One final thing to note, we had made our way through our dinner and ordered dessert, a lovely baklava. With forks at the ready, we were in the process of scooping up our first bite when one of the staff that we had zero interaction with all night swooped by our table to scold us for using a fork to eat. "You are only supposed to eat Baklava with your hands!" Jokingly we obliged, but honestly I'm paying for this meal, I don't need someone telling me how to eat it. Food: 3/5. As mentioned above, we decided to order a half dozen small plates and appetizers and overall everything was decent. The stars of the show were anything pita dipping related ie. the salad sampler, sesame roasted feta, hummus of constantinople, and the sheftalies. They make all their pita in house and it comes out pillowy soft, pairing well with any dip. The sheftalies were little pita pockets filled to the brim with hand rolled pork and a tomato cucumber relish that had a lovely balance of savory and tart flavors. Some other things we ordered that were forgettable were the falafel, macaronia tou fournou, moussaka of Cyprus and the cheese puffs. All these dishes were perfectly fine, but just missed the mark whether being slightly underseasoned or dry in texture. Overall, we spent nearly $350 for a table of 4, after the 25% auto gratuity. Maybe without all of the Valentines Day stipulations we would of had a better meal, but it will be a long time before I give Cypriana another shot. read more

What an absolutely fantastic restaurant. In my opinion, they could easily be the the best restaurant in Baltimore! The food is meticulously prepared and the service is so good. The owner, Mr. Fasso is so friendly and generous. He goes around to greet customers and make sure their food is good and that the customers are satisfied. It is rare these days to see a business owner genuinely care for his customers. The octopus, shrimp, Kabob, humus, deserts... sooooo good. Next time, I will try that tomahawk steak! Ugh. This place sounded so promising but when the Tabbouleh tastes better than the lamb chops, it's definitely NOT it. It's like 1974 called and wanted it's mid-western version of 'throw some tender meat on the grill until it chews like a sour apple Laffy Taffy. This was my first time dining in, in a longggggg time. It was great to walk in and immediately be remembered by the staff. We were originally seated in the back, which felt fitting giving our out-of-place clothing, but the lovely manager who remembered me came and moved us to the front and told us to always come as we are. How special! I went with a vegan friend and we did mezze plates. This was my first time trying the falafel, eggplant, and mushrooms, but all were so good. The flavors were fresh. The food came out hot and quickly. The hummus hit as alwayysss! I think it's the best hummus I've ever had. Came here earlier this week to dine outside. We found the pictures of outdoor dining on Yelp to be a little inaccurate- the outdoor dining is sandwiched between two busy streets . Also the free wine with entree option if you check in on yelp isn't something that is recognized by the restaurant. That all aside- the falafel app and classic hummus were delicious. The falafel is super soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. Our beef kebab entree wasn't as exciting but the fries were well seasoned. The beef was a little bland. We did the portobello flatbread which was delicious and was a good way to support the entree that my fiancé and I split . Overall good food- ambiance outside was okay, would definitely get the falafel and hummus again which seems to be the general consensus! read more

We did a group dinner with some friends at Cypriana on a a Friday night and were pleasantly surprised to find this hidden gem! Multiple people in the group were gluten free and when we asked the waiter what we could have on menu, our jaws dropped when he told us almost everything on the menu could accommodate our dietary needs and the chef could even do gluten free hummus and pita! The only other place I have ever been able to have pita and hummus was Disney World...so this was amazing!!! Also, had the best espresso martini ever here. The bar tenders seemed to be heavy handed which we appreciated! The vibe made it seem like this would be a good place for a date night, groups or even bringing kids. I finally made my way out to Cypriana and it was definitely worth it. All the staff had masks on and they are currently doing inside dining. They have a parking lot across the street by the apartment complex if you don't like doing street parking. After looking the menu over with a menu tour from my server, I decided to start with the falafel appetizer. They came out with a nice presentation on a kabob stick with a house made tahini dressing containing Buffalo sauce. Hard fried with a crispy exterior, they tasted nice and light. You get five pieces per order for $12. The Buffalo sauce added a great dimension to it. The falafel and sauce were not overly spicy! For my entree, I selected the Chicken Tenderloin ($18), which came with two boneless chicken pieces grilled over an open flame in a marinade and herbs. The dish was accompanied by tabouli and Cyprus fries. The chicken was grilled to perfection, nice and juicy. The tabouli had cucumber and tomato to get some veggies in there! The star to me was the tarragon dressing on the side. All sauces at Cypriana are homemade. They don't even stock ketchup which was fine for me because the fries went great with the tarragon dressing. Although I would have liked to do dessert, I was full so that shall have to wait until my return visit! My server really explained the dishes well and answered my questions so I feel empowered to not take as long to decide next time! I have been trying to get my husband to take me here for the past two years. Of course, all of us have been suffering with places not being open due to the pandemic, but with Baltimore City finally allowing businesses to open, my husband saw a chance for a reservation and finally make our way to having dinner there. Now you should know that I am actually not the biggest fan of Mediterranean food. I know, that's probably surprising, however my experiences with most places around here have been pretty blah, so I haven't given the cuisine much of a chance due to many restaurants preparation of the food. Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted by two of the friendliest hostesses! Our friends were coming from Carroll County and they really had hit a road block due to a downed tree as we had heavy rains in the area. They were still on their way but a little late due to a detour. We were still seated (they asked if the rest of our party was expected). We were made welcome by a young man from Cypress (and I am so sorry, I don't remember his name, but just a FANTASTIC guy!) who told us Eden would be taking care of us. He asked if it was our first time there to which we replied yes to. We had a lovely conversation and then Eden came along and took our drink order. I ordered the the Bacon Old Fashioned and my husband ordered the Tears of Chios. Both were amazing, but because I am a huge mojito fan, my husband's drink was more to my liking, so for the rest of the evening, I had two more of the Chios drinks. All the drinks were quite potent. At many places we go to, it's like they put so much ice in the drink to cheapen the drink by adding more ice, but not here.....it was just enough ice and the rest was a very tasty beverage. Liquor is not cheap anywhere, but when you pay $14 for a drink, you aren't expecting a glass of ice cubes. Thumbs up here to you Cypriana! We listened to the specialties as anything we asked about they took the time to explain in detail about. I decided on the Hummus of Constantinople and the Sesame Roasted Feta for the table. About the time we got the appetizers, our friends walked in and were seated. It was almost like I had planned it! To elaborate on this, all food came out very timely. Now I ordered the feta because I knew my friend is a big fan. Funny thing is, my husband and I are not.....well until now. We love this dish! I do love hummus, however while it was good, it was not as great as the cheese. It was served with a topping of sesame seeds and baked and came with it's own small pool of wildflower honey. These tastes altogether were so complimentary to the creamy, warm cheese. The sesame seeds added a lovely nuttiness to the mixture. The fresh, warm pita was just amazing! We liked it so much we ordered another, along with an extra pita. I would go here just for this dish alone! The crabcakes had absolutely no filler at all and were broiled. They were so delicate and delicious! I almost prefer crabcakes to picking crabs. Many Mediterranean people that come to Maryland pride themselves on improving crabcakes....I've had many, some good and some bad. These were amazing! Really loved the fries they were served with and the taboulli. Did not taste our friend's Moussaka, but he finished it and I heard no complaints! Same with my husband's Octopus. He was happy! I knew we wanted dessert. I selected the Loukoumades Greek Doughnuts, the Pistachio Sea Salt Baklava and the Baklava Belgian Waffle to be served with Cypress coffee. No one complained....all were so very good. We'd probably just have the Doughnuts or the Baklava again just because they were the favorites. The coffee was to die for....we might just go for that! The owner came over and greeted us and asked if we had a nice dinner....all of us were very happy and we pretty much were closing the establishment down for the evening. I thought all the staff was amazing, very friendly and caring. Bathrooms were tidy for a Friday night and for the most part, our experience was stellar from the moment we walked in the building. I guess the only thing I would change is that the tables for four people are a little on the smaller side. It's not a deal breaker, but with lots of dishes, it could be rough. Amazing food! It's family run and the chef makes the most delicious food. The service is friendly and passionate about the menu. Parking was so convenient- right across the street. We generally stick close to home these days for a number of reasons. However, we felt completely safe in this area and the parking was easy. Someone (maybe the owner?) did bring out fresh potatoes when we pointed out the quality of what we were served. Appetizer portions were quite small for the price. Two small pieces of halloumi for $17. I very highly recommend Orchard Market Cafe in Towson if you're craving chicken. Excellent food for the same price as Cypriana. read more

The restaurant hosted a birthday party for a friend and had a dedicated menu package for all guests and then (without the hosts knowledge) served some of the guests off their regular menu causing an overage on the bill of over two thousand dollars. When I requested to see the manager a lady came out and said she was the head chef (she was actually the owner but didn't disclose that). I explained to her the situation and she simply said well that falls on your waiter and it will come out of his check if you dont pay it. Our waiter was a 20 year old young man and the only black server I saw in the establishment, then she hit his chest and walked away. We could not allow her to do that so we took care of it. We then noticed that she was yelling at him behind the bar in the middle of the restaurant in front of guests so we put a stop to that as well. As the owner she should have taken equal responsibility at a minimum. Also, to share our experience about the restaurant it was terrible. It was family style shared meal and they didnt give each table enough food at all they had little cuts of meat with toothpicks in them and not even one per person I split one with my husband it was crazy! Then we were instructed to park across the street as restaurant parking and almost had our car towed because the parking lot is shared with apartments and no signage for that so we had to pay the tow driver to not tow our car. It was a terrible experience and we were a large party of black people in a Greek establishment and felt the discrimination. I will never go there again! read more

The best hummus I've ever had. servers are helpful and kind, but if they're really busy drinks can get a little backed up, but they're always creative and delicious (worth any wait!). Call today for your reservation for the most amazing gastric experience in Baltimore. This was my second time visiting Cypriana. AND I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED. The first time was during Covid and they had sat the dining room up in a little park. That was a magical night. The food and atmosphere were so amazing that night we thought it had to be a one off. On a whim I decided to return 4 years later. I was able to get a reservation when they opened at 5pm. Free, private off street parking. By 5:30 the restaurant was filling. We ordered the salad platter, falafel, stuffed grape leaves and fried feta. I cannot begin to even explain to you the explosion of flavors that I experienced. The salad platter had 7 different salad to eat with homemade pita bread. A great way to sample a lot of flavor profiles and different Greek foods in one large dish. My husband and I agreed that there is no explainable reason that food should taste this good unless it is made not only by an enormously talented person, but with a chef's kiss of love. Please don't even get me started on the kindness, attentiveness and knowledge of our server. We placed some restraint on our desire to eat every bite of the food we ordered so we could save some room for what we were sure would be an amazing selection of desserts. I was NOT disappointed. I don't remember the name of the dessert, but it was made with fried angel hair pasta, honey, butter, pistachio nut dust and a cream. I have never been so happy I didn't finish my dinner so I had room for dessert. Not to sweet. Crunchy. And just the right amount of decadence. And a very nice size portion to share. One last thing. The coffee. We elected to share a French Press of coffee. Now I have had coffee in some fancy schmancy restaurants, but I have never had my coffee mug heated up. I truly hope this is an attention to detail. Because if it is....we were blown away. If not, I feel a little like a country bumpkin thinking this was purposeful. My husband and I both thought maybe the cups just came out of the dishwasher, but we were the first people to order coffee. So that didn't make sense. If this was an accident it was a moment of amazement for us. Extra nice touch with the French Press. The cream for the coffee was whipped heavy cream. The coffee was delicate and mellow. When paired with dessert it was the perfect ending. As always when the plates are cleared the check comes. I had not paid attention to the prices when we ordered. We did not drink alcohol. Two iced teas and a French Press coffee for 2. I figured we had easily spent $150-$175. My jaw dropped to the floor when the bill was $109 with tax. If you want to find a local, upscale restaurant that serves food that is made with love and unbelievable quality and taste like what winning the lottery must feel like....call today for your reservation. My only 2 regrets are not getting the hummus again or ordering the Moussaka. It is a comfortable restaurant with staff that make you feel like you are eating food a Greek grandma might have made for you. This is a strong 4 star review for the food. The pita bread and hummus were incredible! Grateful for many choices without meat and even without dairy. I finally got to eat vegan moussaka. The salmon over beluga lentils was a hit. With such an extensive menu there was something for everyone (and missed seeing the free wine by checking in on Yelp). The only drawback is that the place is a little run down and we sat facing lots of stacked chairs in the back half. Definitely limited atmosphere. read more

Service is slow, but that's fine under the circumstances. However, a table that arrived 20 minutes after us got the hummus before us, and out three small plates came all at different times and with long waits between them. They forgot the extra pita, and I have to ask for it twice. When I pointed out about the hummus the owner (manager?) was angry and defensive rather than trying to fix the problem or apologize. Food is good, the place under the trees is nice, the distance between tables is good, and the problem is not the service, but the crazy response to a polite and reasonable complaint. This is a review of Valentine's Day, 2024. I have been to this restaurant before, and it was lovely. The food is truly excellent. HOWEVER, do not go for a special event. I thought this would be the perfect place for a family Valentine's dinner - me, my husband, and his 12 y/o daughter. We looked at the menu to see that it was appropriate for what we wanted - nice, but not super expensive, and it fit the bill. Not a "couples only" type of vibe. We made a reservation, and were there on time. We waited 20 minutes to be seated - apparently 3 people just didn't fit for Valentine's Day. Despite the reservation. They did apologize, but only after a considerable wait and watching many, many other people be seated. When we were seated, the hostess forgot to bring us enough plates and silverware. Our server was fine, clearly run off her feet, and a little confused, but nice enough. And then we were surprised by the special menu for the night - special, as in extra expensive and none of the more casual foods. Which was not shown on the website. We got drinks, which were good and served quickly. We got a plate of hummus and pita, which cost $18 for literally one pita and a moderate amount of hummus. And then we waited. And waited. And waited for our food. We arrived on time for a 7pm reservation, ordered within 10 minutes of being seated (I think it was faster, but I'm trying to be generous) and were served at 8:35. We would have left but my stepdaughter wanted to stay - my husband and I were going to walk out. The food was good - some of it was excellent. However, I got the vegetarian moussaka and it was definitely put in the microwave right before serving - it was dangerously hot in the middle. Overall, it was a frustrating experience, made worse by the owner (manager?) catering to the table of people literally right next to us who were either friends or VIPs. They were served within a normal amount of time, and their server checked on them. Their glasses were refilled. It was a little insulting. Normally, dessert would be a highlight, especially with a child. But we had been there so long, with such poor service, that we decided to go to the Charmery. That ended up being the best part of the evening. Please, if you don't have the capacity to serve all of the people you are seating, you need to scale down your seating. Of course it would be a busy night, but this is a restaurant that has been in business for a long time. They should know how to manage these crowds, especially since it was all reservations. We were so impressed with the quality, attention to detail, presentation as well as the authenticity to Greek and Cypriot recipes. Chef Maria and Vasos made us feel like we were part of their family. They really know how to host a party. A Greek celebration would not be complete without dancing and Chef Maria led the dancing. We were in Baltimore for our daughter's graduation, and she had made a reservation for dinner, for a couple of her other friends' families and us. This was my second time at Cypriana and I brought some friends along to introduce them to this amazing cuisine. We were seated inside and waited on by Mossimo. He was fantastic and kept checking back and taking our continuous orders of shareable plates and cocktails. We thoroughly enjoyed the Hummus and Pita, the Baked Macaronia Tou Fournou, Falafels, Stuffed Grape Leaves, Wood Roasted Olives, Spicy Chickpeas, and Lamb Shank. The owner kept stopping by to chat and even treated us to a lesson on enjoying the bone marrow in the shank. This created some raucous laughter as one of us actually demonstrated (and delightfully succeeded in) sucking the marrow out of the bone with a straw. The chef also greeted us and we were able to tell her how much we loved everything we tried. And, I mean, EVERYTHING. Each dish was flavorful and delicious. My favorite part of the meal was dessert. The Pistachio Sea Salt Baklava is out of this world. Anything with Filo dough is going to be fire, but this hand-rolled pasty with pistachios and sea salt dipped in a sugary syrup is incredible. The Loukoumades (like donuts) are fantastic with the honey syrup glaze. It was nice introducing some new fans to this place and I appreciated the owners making it very special for my group. Great food and atrocious service! The food was good; the small plates were much more expensive than what you got. Come on, 4 shrimp for $21! It was good and tasty, but that's ridiculous! Octopus for $22, 8 small pieces. The food was really good but overpriced for the amount we got. I was still hungry after sharing 4 small plates with one other person and got the beef tenderloin kabob, which was listed as a middle plate, but there really was only a little kabob meat, and I expected there to be more. I was hoping for two skewers of meat, but just one. Again, the food was really good and not the reason for the 3 stars. Our waiting could have been better. She would be gone for long periods of time, and when she started to take our order, she excused herself to go to the bathroom. I mean, odd, though I wouldn't have wanted to see a puddle on the floor, so I get it, but it was just very strange, and I felt like our server was new and forgetful. We would order something, which got noted, but she forgot and asked us multiple times. It was quite ridiculous. I will return at some point, probably when the weather is nice, and we can sit outside and have a more leisurely dinner and a better server. I do not want this one waiting on me again! read more

6 of us throughly enjoyed Cypriana last night. We stumbled upon it and what a treat. It started in the bar with our two bartenders who were personable and gave us fabulous menu suggestions. The menu looked so good we had to try the spinach Ouzo dip right then and there. It was divine served with a fresh warm pita. We did not have reservations, but the hostess was friendly and accommodating to our group. We only had to wait about 5 minutes even though the restaurant was buzzing. We had the meatballs served with tzatziki (to die for), eggplant, a huge hummus plate, homemade pita with freshly prepared sausage and another spinach Ouzo dip. All of these dishes were small plates and were shared. Lots of vegetarian and many gluten free options. I only wish we lived closer so I could come back to this restaurant regularly and try everything on the menu. How lucky the people in this neighborhood are to have something so great within walking distance. Our service was also fantastic and attentive. read more

Went to Cypriana on a slow Saturday night. We ordered three different meals and a beet salad. The service was great and they seated us by the window in the bar which was a bit different from the main dining area. So let's start with the beet salad which was in my opinion lackluster. The greens were okay but they gave four small slices of beets, a few spicy pecans that burnt my tongue and two tart cherries. This was a poor example of a beet salad from any restaurant that has served us one. Too few beets, dry greens and nasty pecans. Please reimagine this dish. My husband had the lamb chops which looked lovely and he said they were excellent. There were four plump meaty chops on his plate with large lemon potatoes. My son had the portobello platter and he said it was good but I noticed it was a bit wet looking on the plate, too much oil in my opinion. Finally I had the salmon platter. The salmon was fair, lacking the great taste of good grilled fish. It has a strange crust on the top and the fish was not flaky and a bit tough. My potatoes were oily, dark and burnt to a crisp. The lemon potatoes were usually soft puffs of potatoes but these were not. There was a tabouli salad but it was very wet and too vinegary for my taste. I was totally disappointed in my meal. We have been there many times but this time showed some slippage in the preparation of the food. I recommend, less oil, don't overcook and fix that beet salad which was tasteless and overpriced for the serving. read more

Thank you for a wonderful evening!!!!! My husband and I had a long overdue date night. Cypriana was an excellent choice! The owners are very personable and made us feel very special. Thank you! We had a little of everything. Each dish was so delicious!!!! They were so beautifully presented too. We loved all the homemade sauces and could taste all the fresh herbs.
