Great people, great custard, but the food to price ratio is becoming hard to justify. We first visited in 2022 and had a great experience...although the prices already felt a little high for a stand type of place. This recent experience with the food was a little less great and the prices are obviously going to be even higher nowadays. I ordered the same thing I got last time because I really enjoyed it...the fish sandwich. Matt opted for a Sahlen's Italian sausage with onions and peppers. No fries or drink for either of us, but we did get a pint of the Perry's peanut butter swirl in vanilla because we haven't seen it at the grocery store. The fish sandwich was kind of sad looking. It comes plain now, but they'll add tartar sauce for you if you ask. I added cheese, too. It tasted pretty good, no complaints really, but the quality to price ratio is off...it's $10.79 if you opt for cheese. It's just not worth that to me. Matt liked his Italian sausage, although the link was quite short. And of course the ice cream is delicious! The customer service was really great, too. The ladies there were very friendly and helpful. Our total for two items and a pint came to $29.71. Looking at it all together when I took the photo, I just don't feel like it's a good value. Overall, maybe we'll go once a year or so for some Perry's...but I think we'll skip the food. It's definitely not bad, it's just not good for the price. This review is regarding the service. My husband went to purchase an ice cream cone for me. He was the only customer waiting as today was a cool, rainy day. When attempting to order the (3) staff members were so engaged in talking among themselves that he had to knock on window to get their attention. Once he ordered the 1 cone....it took them about 10 minutes to make it....and his view was block as they made it. Again, he tried to alert them that he was still waiting for the (1) cone. He viewed one girl make it and gave it to another girl who then brought it to him. He refused it because 2 touched it without gloves or napkins. He asked that another cone be made, and it be made where he could see them making it. When the young lady brought this one back...cone was not even wrapped to go. My husband asked to wrap to go and young lady just placed a cup over it. We are very disappointed with the service and attitude of staff. Not to mention wait time was entirely too long for one cone and no other customers being served at that time. Needless to .... we will not be going back. read more

One of my favorite seasons of the year is here: ice cream season! And what a treat it was to stop at Custard Corner for my first ice cream run of the season. This little Westside joint serves up a wide range of summertime favorites: from burgers and hot dogs to milkshakes and sundaes, they've got it all. The line was pretty slow moving when we visited, but once you place your order, your food comes out pretty quickly which was so nice! I opted for a strawberry vanilla twist with sprinkles. In a waffle cone, of course. And wow was it delicious! You don't find strawberry soft serve in too many ice cream shops around here, so it was a real treat for me. I ordered a small, and the size was plenty. My boyfriend got a large hot fudge sundae, which was also pretty sizable. So I'd say their sizing is well worth it for the price. Even in the rain it's a great place to grab lunch or supper. I was pleasantly surprised by how UNgreasy everything was. Especially the Italian sausage with peppers and onions. Don't know how they do it, but I must say that for grilled and fried foods, Custard Corner has the healthiest available. I dropped a couple of the onions from my sandwich on my pants-- zero grease spots. And since I'm a low salt person, I was impressed that the fries came with option. Lynette ordered the nachos with meat sauce. Don't know what happened to my photo of that. They were just okay. Could have had more meat. And more sauce. And more nacho cheese. But I think we all liked the onion rings and fries. I really enjoyed the Italian sausage, hadn't had one in a couple of years. As I say on one of the photos, we took our lunch to Front Park, down a couple of blocks and across the street. Had our folding chairs in the car and ate under the protection of the shelter there. Actually, there is another park even closer for a picnic lunch. Columbus Park. Front Park is home to a memorial to Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry, while Columbus Park has a statue of, yep, Christopher Columbus. Though I think that statue has been put away for safer times. Worth noting: Custard Corner also has great custard, as well as Perry's ice cream. And their menu is online, so you can decide ahead of time what you want to order. read more

Went with a friend and ordered two scoops of a Perry's (less than $5) and it was the perfect cool down treat! The service was prompt and the staff professional. First time coming here for ice cream. They had a huge variety of hard and soft serve ice cream. I had the half and half soft serve custard in a sugar cone and my bf had black cherry and dirt sundae in a waffle. Both were great and a small was the perfect size. This place was originally called "Cuss-word Corner" because the corner it's on features a lot of budding rap stars, panhandling and freestyling, so naturally, you tend to hear one or two cuss words. However parents were reluctant to bring their kids to such a cussy place, so they cleaned up their act, started making custard, and changed their name. I stopped at this custard stand in the middle of a lightning storm, the same lightning storm that caused my soccer game to be cancelled, just across the street at Front Park. The same way I order a fish sand which anywhere else. The fries smelled and looked really good, but tasted a little undercooked. They could've used another min of cooking. My husband got a #2 Quarter Pound Cheeseburger with bacon, fries and a drink. He liked it. He said his fries were ok. He didn't think his tasted undercooked. Now. The Yelp Special. It was good. It's Vanilla Custard mixed with Caramel Sauce, Pecans, Spiced Apple chunks and topped with Pecans. But I have one complaint and also a question. Why would they choose to put Pecans (a tree nut) in it? Tree Nuts are a major food allergy. Hadn't been here in a while but decided to make it our first stop during the ice cream adventure and unfortunately it wasn't the best experience. The cashier wasn't sure what the yelp special was and had to get someone else to describe it. The portion size was certainly not worth the $5 and it didn't seem too enticing from what she told us. I ended up getting an arctic swirl (not the special), my daughter had a milkshake and my boyfriend had one as well. The prices seem to be going up yet the quality is pretty mediocre. Places like this make me appreciate that I am a part of the Yelp community. Had it not been for the "Yelp Ice Cream Adventure", I don't know that I would have ever stopped here. Now that I have stopped, I would come back again. We ordered the pastelito special and the Yelp sundae. The pastelitos were surprisingly good, not the best in the area, but not bad. I would would definitely swing by and grab a couple the next time we are at the dog park if I was hungry. I still have a couple to go, but so far this has been my favorite "sundae" on the Yelp adventure. The tables were nice and outside of the traffic is had a pretty mellow vibe. If you are looking for somewhere cool to hang out and be seen this is exactly the opposite of that but it's my favorite summer time spot. It's basically a no frills ice cream spot but it's expertly operated and it reminds me a lot of when my grandparents would take me out for ice cream. I get the peanut parfait with hot fudge every single time but occasionally I will supplement that with a root beer float or fries. There is soft serve and traditional scoop ice cream in addition to some basic burger/ hot dog offerings. I've never had food there that is bad, but if I'm eating something that isn't ice cream it's usually the fried baloney sandwich. Thick cut with onions and mustard, it's made the way a traditional helicopter should be and it's one of the few places in Buffalo it has still have it on the menu (if you know of any other places you should let me know by the way). The best tip I can give you in regards to this place is it you only have ten bucks in your pocket and are having a terrible day head down there and get that sandwich and a root beer float. They used to have rainbow sherbet which you could get float style with Mountain Dew and that was a game changer. I haven't seen it around the there lately and that's really the only negative I can think of. It's kid friendly, seating is all outside so it's dog friendly, and there isn't a better spot to stop at in the city it you need to cool down and get a sugar rush. read more

Recently stumbled upon this place and have been back a few times since. A variety of fast food options for lunch or dinner very reasonably priced. Friendly staff and quick service. Their custard was delicious and generously sized. My favorite part about going was the "doggy ice cream" - vanilla custard with a milk bone. It was fun for both me and my four legged furry friend. I was impressed by the amount of different things on the menu, They have everything from seafood, burgers, hotdogs, chicken, to a large variety of ice cream and milkshakes. Sadly I did not get to try any of the food tonight, but I did get to indulge in the ice cream special. The special was vanilla custard, caramel sauce, pecans, spiced apple pieces, and it was topped with pecans. It's the only thing really open around the area, so I hope they stay around awhile. That said, I feel they're a little expensive for what they are. We lived in Buffalo 17 years ago and I came upon Custard Corner on a walk with my toddler daughter. I approached it cautiously, not believing they could be serving real custard. I grew up in a small town in Quebec where summer was official when the custard stand opened. I I had no idea how good it was until I was older and gone from there and I had my first "soft serve" ice cream. I learned that thin, sad, soft serve is not to be confused with custard. We moved back two years ago, and while I've changed because I have two daughters now - it was still the same. Maybe even better. I've been able to introduce my second daughter a blessed and discerning life of custard consumption. We stalk Custard Corner many springtime afternoons after school, looking for a sign they're open, desperate for their vanilla custard and hot fudge. Pure. No nuts, no whipped cream. Just perfect and essential elements. Last year we thought it looked open and we got out of the car, pressed our faces to the glass, knocked on the door, drove around it like a circling shark. We had to wait a little while longer. I use a trip there like therapy when I pick up a sad or grouchy daughter after a bad day at school, or a bad day just being 13, I know I will see light in her face when I just suggest we go there. Just had my first taste of the soft-serve vanilla custard with rainbow sprinkles and I must say it was delicious. I felt like I needed another bowl lol. I also love the outdoor seating. It's perfect to sit down with your snacks and ice cream after playing in the park or being at the pool. My only complaint is that the service is slow. I paid with a gift card and in the time 3 staff members spent trying to figure out how to take a gift card as payment, 1 could've put together my order. They have PERRY'S ICE CREAM! Can I start there?! It's a small spot by the water, that's perfect for a summer day's outing. Their ice cream selection switches from time to time, but the variety is always a good selection; a lot of the time, they have whet seems like more exclusive options. Maybe that's why their priced like the movie theatre? My first experience was last summer, when I first had Cinnabon Ice Cream. When I tell you, this cool treat was so good, that I questioned myself as to why I only got the small! Today I had one of their local sport options - their University of Buffalo, "True to the Blue" that was a vanilla ice cream with caramel swirls and blue salted pretzel bites. It was so good! I hope they keep this on the menu for the rest of the summer (and maybe even let the Cinnabon make a guest appearance ;). They also have hot food options, like different sandwiches and burgers, hotdogs, amongst other combos. I've have their veggie burger combo - a bit over priced, but I was satisfied at the end of the day. I wish their fries were seasoned with at least salt, and I wish the side of BBQ sauce wasn't $.85 for a dab. This is a cool date night pit stop, or a nice treat on a Thursday afternoon. read more

Visited for the first time today. It's definitely your average ice cream shop. There was no wait, and you order from a window on the building. My boyfriend and I ordered a plain vanilla shake and it was pretty tasty, although it's not hard to fail at preparing a vanilla shake. Needless to say, we were satisfied. The ice cream came out quickly and ordering was efficient. We also noticed they serve other fried foods like hot dogs, burgers, and fries. We hadn't eaten lunch yet, but we still passed on the food. A few other customers opted for the food though, and it seemed decent. Given the location, I think this shop is a convenient location serving convenient items. They had a menu that consisted of ALL OF THE THINGS... they had pastelitos, jalapeño poppers, fries, fish sandwiches, fried dough with unicorn horn powder, centaur jerky, lockness monster steaks, dragon scale soup, Phoenix wings, sphinx tale...ok I may have gotten a little carried away there :-) but they really do have wide variety of dishes! This is a very popular place that apparently serves good food. I had a bit of a hard time finding it because the signs from the 190 to Porter need work. I ended up going over the Peace Bridge to Canada and back before I was able to get on Porter St. I was told by the Canadiancustoms people that this is a very common thing. I came here with some family after a nice visit to Broderick park, and all I can say is never again. I ordered a peach sundae, which basically ended up being a small scoop of vanilla ice cream with canned peaches about 2 tablespoons around it and a dollop of whipped cream.
