    Hummingbird Cake!

I went to Amherst to try out Lloyd's on my last day of vacation and as an added bonus, Sweet Hearth was there. I checked out their menu while I was waiting for my Lloyd's order and decided to get something to take home with me if I had room left. I am glad I did! The menu had lots of different items so if you wanted something with fruit, or chocolate, or peanut butter, you were set. The service was fast and friendly and the owner was very appreciative of the business and to those who mentioned signing the petition for food trucks in Amherst. It was hard to decide what to try, but I went for the Hummingbird Cake (banana, pecan, pineapple cake with cream cheese frosting). It was $4.75 and I got a HUGE piece of it. If you went to a restaurant and paid that, you would get something about half the size of this slice. I am a baker and am picky when it comes to desserts and rarely buy them because I am usually let down. I was not disappointed at all. The cake was three layers and every bit of the cake was moist and flavorful. I am not a huge frosting person usually as it is often too teeth-achingly sweet and covers up the cake, but the cream cheese frosting was delicate and still had that tang of cream cheese, which it should. I ate every bite of it. The cake was on a sturdy plate and wrapped in foil and was easy for me to drive home with, or I could have ate it standing up. I will definitely keep and eye out for The Sweet Hearth around town and highly recommend it!

With all the delicious-looking dessert options at Food Truck Tuesday, it was difficult for us to make a decision. I definitely have no regrets about my decision to go with the Pumpkin Cupcake from Sweet Hearth. It was so perfectly moist and the frosting was delicious.

The private area for hosting was open for reservations and our book club met there. We had about 10 people but I would say this space is big enough for about 20! They have a full bar for drinks and mocktails and they also have some small plates for eating or sharing as well. I recommend the mezza plate! Very delicious. Staff were warm and welcoming and super nice and accommodating to our group. I would suggest stopping in for a nice drink and appetizer and maybe even pick up a good book! They have lots of comfy seats for you to enjoy your purchases.

Like c'mon! Imagine, you can have a cocktail and/or an appetizer and relax reading a book on the couch. Yes, I love this idea, I'm all about it. The place is small but seating is nicely spaced out, it's super cute and cozy, a modern rustic vibe, totally made me want to start my own book club just so I could be the cool person that hosts a gathering here! I came here for a Galentine's Day - Self Love Birthday gathering that was situated in the back room. It's a small room to the back left of the place where 12 people can sit at the three tables and there's a love seat and two chairs with a table accommodating 16 people and a couple more for standing room. We ordered three appetizers at the bar (see my pictures) and everyone ordered a mocktail. They brought the food over to our area but didn't ask who ordered the food or where to put it, they just kind placed it down and walked away. Appetizers were about $8, I was told the Buffalo Chicken Wing dip was not that good but I didn't try it. I ate the Mezza plate and appreciated it, would order again. I think this is a cute date night visit or a bring your bestie and chill kind of place. I'll definitely come back again with a friend to hang out, chat a bit and check out some books!

I kept reading the hype about Sweet Jesus so on my last visit through Niagara Falls, the hubby and…read moreI decided to stop and get a sweet treat. Our consensus was that this place is definitely over-hyped. Neither of us was a fan of the ice cream here, and it's one of our favorite desserts. It has a weird consistency that doesn't even taste all that creamy, and the plain vanilla has zero flavor. The ice cream had a very light and fluffy texture that was unappealing, sort of like Cool Whip versus real whipped cream. I prefer my ice cream very thick and creamy. The flavor comes from the toppings, which were also a little bit boring. There are lots of weird sounding flavor combinations that they call "cone builds" that have sauces and toppings that are over the top, but we opted for a cone with cookie crumbs and cookie dough for me, and Oreo for him. The cookie crumbs were very stale and the cookie dough just tasted like regular old cookie dough topping, nothing special. I also thought the ice cream shop was very dirty. It didn't seem very clean or sanitary and if that sort of thing bothers you'd I'd recommend skipping this place. The toppings were falling all over the counter, which was an absolutely gross mess, and our cones were given to us already dripping and sticky (yuck). The prices are high but then again, that's to be expected since this location is right on the main tourist drag in Niagara Falls. It's right at the end of the street by the falls, so you can walk over and eat your ice cream and look at the water. We paid like $22 CAD for two mediocre ice cream cones. This is a one and done place for me for sure.

A Bit of a Letdown This Time Around…read more We've had Sweet Jesus before--mostly at mall locations--and we've usually really enjoyed it. But this time around on Clifton Hill, it just didn't wow us. We went with milkshakes: I got the Birthday Cake, and my wife got the Mango. Hers was okay, but my Birthday Cake shake was super underwhelming. It was way too liquid-y, the cake bits had an odd texture, and the overall flavour was just bland. Normally Sweet Jesus is known for bold, indulgent treats, but this one fell flat. Also the cardboard straws are TERRIBLE. Broke a couple just trying to get them through the plastic lid. The location didn't help either--Clifton Hill has gotten way more crowded than it used to be, and this spot became chaotic pretty fast. Might've just been an off visit, but based on this experience, we'd probably stick to the mall locations next time.
