THE GOOD: We both had breakfast and both enjoyed what we ordered very much. The service was excellent. All three of the people that came by to refill coffee and water and to check on us (multiple times) were very nice. We were fortunate to arrive at the perfect time for a Saturday morning, as we would find out in just a few minutes, as we watched the wait list grow. This being our first time, we weren't sure of the seating situation. I walked to the back, where the to-go pick up was located, to find that we can sit anywhere and that someone would come and help us. We did, and they did. I suggest you stop in and give Curuba a try. Very reasonable prices, lots of menu choices, wonderful staff, oh, did I mention the coffee? I love dark roast coffee, "Just black, please". This Columbian coffee is dark, rich, smooth and flavorful with an aroma that hits the senses with every taste. If you're a dark roasted coffee fan, stop in for a cup to go. You'll be back. And even better, the coffee comes from Columbia. They purchase it from a local importer (I believe). They provided the url via QR code. We believe in the "Buy local" philosophy. It's nice to see businesses doing business with local businesses. THE BAD: It's a small restaurant. Making a reservation (Open Table) is likely a good idea. We happened to find it at a slow moment on a Saturday morning. OVERALL: We're fans. I'd love to take our friends and family for lunch, or tell them about our new find. Been wanting to try out Curuba for a while and finally made it in with a friend for lunch. I'd like to start by saying that the service is fantastic. The gentleman practically went over the entire menu with us which was much appreciated . We were constantly checked on and felt really welcomed. My friend got a coffee and said it was very good . We also tried the lulo and Maracuya juice . I highly recommend the lulo if you enjoy tart and sweet ( the maracuya was a bit too sweet for my liking ). We started off with the empanada sampler and Marcilla au gratin . Not big fans of the marcilla - way too much dairy . The sausage itself was good, but wouldn't get it again . Our favorite empanada was the calentao followed by the brisket. The chicken was just ok. We both agreed that our main course, the sancocho de costilla was yummy . If you're looking for a hearty soup that feels like a nice warm hug, I'd highly recommend . Overall, worth checking out . One of the few negatives is that this is a small store-front restaurant, with maybe 6 tables. The positives are that the female server is delightful and helpful, and the food is generally quite good. I had the chicken with mushrooms in sauce, with sautéed spinach and rice. I would have thought that a Spanish restaurant would have Spanish rice, but they only had white rice. That really wasn't a problem, as the sauce was really good and mixed well wiith the rice. The portion of chicken was generous, (2 flat pan-fried breast pieces), and with the sauce, quite tasty. However, the thin flattened chicken was a bit dense, so I requested extra sauce. The sautéed spinach was perfect. My partner had the brisket dog, which he said was very good. We had some sort of pineapple-flavored creamy cake for dessert, which was kept refrigerated, and served in the small plastic refrigerator box. The lid on it took off all the frosting when removed. We had mixed feelings about that dessert...very strong pineapple taste, and not a great way to serve it. We both had to try to eat out if the square plastic carton. The only other negative was their one unisex restroom, which meant standing in line in the hall right next to the clanking kitchen sounds. There was missing moulding as well as empty white pails in the restroom. Not a great atmosphere. There were also no purse hangers in the restroom and none at the table, either, which was inconvenient. Very nice couple who seemed to run it, and they prepared good food. I do recommend. read more

The juices were amazing, the appetizers were chose were decent. I really love blood sausage but we ordered the one with the cheese and it honestly wasn't my favorite. Went to Curuba for breakfast and had the Curuba's Breakfast and a friend had the Mi Burrito. Sofia was our server and did a good job explaining some things on the menu. My eggs were overcooked but I really enjoyed the Arepa Boyacense. My friend's burrito was huge and he enjoyed it. Coffee and OJ were good (free with a Val Pak coupon). You can always tell if a restaurant is going to be good, by the customers. This place was packed with Colombians. The ethnic menu had a lot of great choices. I had a sancocho de castilla soup and it was delicious. But, I looked around and I saw other things I want to try. The service was excellent. The ambience is just OK. It's a small place. I would anticipate them growing though. If you are adventurous, you must give this a try. They have breakfast too, which I haven't tried yet, but it sure looks good. read more

Curuba is a local Columbian place, with excellent food, decor, and service. I got the chance to try it when my people were hungry, but didn't want to leave home so I volunteered to go pick up some take out from them. My son got the "Messy Hot Dog" - unfortunately the picture does not convey the size of this thing - it is huge. I only got 1 bite, but it was outstanding. My son could only ate half and saved the other half for his dinner tomorrow. He also got the very generous side of fruit and a Mango with water - he was very happy. I got the Red Beans Stew "Cazuela" - absolutely fantastic! I mixed everything together and lived the good life. I would have been happy with the the red bean stew, but combined with the rice, pork belly and the guacamole potato sticks, it absolutely rocked. We got the Mini Arepas plain for my granddaughter, which she devoured (I did manage to get 1 bite and they were great) - although I think we will get it with brisket next time. I feel quite fortunate to have such a high quality place so close - you should treat yourself by visiting them. I'm not familiar with Colombian cuisine but there's plenty on the menu even for the non adventurous. I can't wait to come back and try more, but I can immediately see how good this place is and why the reviews have been stellar. Everything is homemade and the (owner I assume?) server was happy to tell me what everything was. Even the croutons in my salad were freshly made. My Caesar salad was perfect. A mix of kale and lettuce, homemade cheese/corn croutons, homemade dressing, and the chicken I added was cooked perfectly. I couldn't possibly ask for more, even though it's a simple dish. One of the best salads I've had in the area. The guacamole appetizer was also great. Served with hot and crispy arepas and some sort of tasty hot sauce if you want spicy. My kid enjoyed his Mac n cheese and a large side of fresh fruit. Perfect for a kids meal. I was curious about what a few things were so I chatted with the owner a little who explained that they don't use seed oils (except for the fryer I think), no gmos, and try to use only healthy ingredients. While I don't generally worry about that stuff, this probably is appealing to some and it's nice to know the ingredients are higher quality than you usually get. It sounds like his wife is back there cooking everything from scratch and from what we tried, she is doing an amazing job! It's a small restaurant with only a few tables in an unassuming strip mall (by the closed Sonic) but it was cute inside and they've done a nice job with the small space. The food at this very tiny establishment is outstanding. Some of the best Latino food I have ever had. Highly recommend! If you show up without a reservation you will likely be turned away because seating is very limited and it is popular. They are only open from 8 AM to 3 PM. Everything is made fresh, so orders don't come out in a hurry, but well worth the wait! The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. We would recommend getting your orders to go, though. Because it is such a popular place and so tiny, every time the door opens or closes you can hear it ding and at certain tables you constantly get blasted by the cold or hot air, depending on what season you're visiting. Tried the bandeja paisa and it was a great portion of deliciously prepared meats! My favorite was the chorizo, followed by the chicharron followed by the steak. Everything was very well prepared and the service is exceptional. I must have had four people ask me how I was doing and if I needed anything. I did ask for hot sauce and an extra side of their aoli. This place is Amazing!! A true hidden gem. Yes, it's definitely worth the drive to Allen. We went for brunch on Mother's Day. Most of the menu is naturally gluten free. The staff are so nice and very familiar with which menu items contain gluten. I ordered the Curabas Eggs Benedict with brisket and plantain, and every bite was delicious! Oh my, I haven't eaten at a restaurant that's truly wowed me in a while. The food was stunning, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. This was also my first time having Colombian cuisine. The anjiaco was a creamy potato soup with the MOST TENDER chicken. The bandeja paisa, a Colombian classic of assorted meats, might've been my least favorite, but only because the steak was slightly dry. All the other meats, such as the chorizo and pork belly, were delicious and not too salty. The desgranado was reminiscent to Korean cheese corn which I love. And lastly, the shrimp encocado was shrimp cooked in a beautifully creamy coconut sauce. I also loved the sweet plantains. Ambiance: the ambiance is actually the area I would do the most upgrades in.
