Charming little place with a warm fireplace, tchotchkes, a small selection of food, and a little booze and coffee bar. I went with my friend and her daughter. We ordered a large, hot Chai, a cold, medium Chai and a large, iced caramel quad shot latte. We also asked for two slices of warmed banana bread with Honeycomb butter. The banana bread was delicious, but not warmed. My friend's daughter ordered the waffles with berries. The berries were fresh, the waffle was a little in the extra crispy side, but she wanted everyone to know the whipped cream was really tasty. I ordered the shakshuka. I have only ever seen them make it on the Food Network and have always wanted to try it. It was served piping hot with four small slices of toasted baguette. It was unbelievably flavorful and so delicious. My only complaint is the eggs are supposed to be jammy/runny and mine were very over cooked. However, it was still sooo good! Probably could use another six slices of baguette or just a while one altogether, to finish the meal. I had almost 3/4 of it left and no way to eat it. My latte came hot and large, but when I asked them to remake it because I don't drink hot coffee and asked for it iced, they remade it cold and small. We really enjoyed our dinner at Current. I absolutely love the vibe. We were able to sit in front of the fireplace, relax, drink, eat, and even play a game. My Waikiki bowl was tasty with greens, quinoa, black beans, squash, avocado, corn, chimichurri, and a light vinaigrette. My partner also enjoyed his BLTA wrap. The coffee and ranch water were good, but my ranch water could have used a lime. My only other thought is that the bowl has all cold ingredients. I'm not sure if it would make sense to have a couple of the items in there warmed up. Maybe, or maybe just make that clear in the description. There also could have been a touch more quinoa. Aside from that, it's a nice place, they have some cool surf stuff in the shop, and we would have gone back today if we weren't heading out! read more

Oh, my goodness! What a find. This place has a great upscale beach vibe, perfect for the summer morning or equally great to warm up in the winter with a cup of coffee or tea with their fireplace. The food is amazing, great flavors, amazing taste and that would be both at breakfast and their evening menu. Current is open in the morning with a great selection of food and drinks and then open again in the evening and lunch time with mixed drinks and lunch and dinner choices. The staff is welcoming and provide fast and great customer service. We came here multiple times during different trips to the beach, and this place never disappoints. Keep your eyes open for their cafe sign as if you don't look, you could miss it. Can't wait to come back and enjoy some good coffee and food next time we are in town. Until next time! I loved the modern beach vibes of this café. Situated in a newer building, the gift shop had a variety of items to purchase as you walked around, listening to some fun music. While we didn't eat any other food, it looked amazing! The coffee we did get tasted great. -2 for the temperature of the "children's" hot chocolate. My wife ordered our three year-old son, a "children's" hot chocolate, and after he took a few licks of the whipped cream, took a sip of the cocoa and burned his mouth. We stumbled upon Current while killing an hour before we could check in at our lodging for the weekend, which happened to be a short 8 minute walk from here. It had been a long drive for us, in torrential downpours, so sitting and having coffee sounded nice. Current is at a newer, upscale building in Long Beach. They have some fairly expensive surf-wear in one end of the shop, and then a large order desk / food case in the middle, and some very comfy, cozy, seating on the highway side of the establishment. It seams the barista was possibly also checking guests in at a nearby hotel, as he spent quite a bit of time with the couple in front of us (and later we saw signs directing people to Current to check in for their stay). This did add a little time to our coffee ordering, but it still all went smoothly. For our first visit, we elected to sit at the low window side bar, which have some cushy stools to sit on. We thumbed through a deck of trivia cards while we sipped our coffee -- which, by the way, was excellent. I get a simple Vanilla Latte every time I order an espresso drink, and Current did not disappoint. The coffee was perfectly smooth, without any burnt notes of hints of bitterness. Delicious. We liked Current so much on that first visit, that we had to stop in the next day, less than 24 hours later. This day was filled with thunder showers and high winds, so by the time we walked back from downtown LB, we were ready for a warm up. This time we sat at a small table in the main seating area, near the fireplace, and facing the highway. The coffee was excellent again, and this time I got a 16 oz, so we could wait out the thunder shower that was passing over. We even got to see the barista run out and rescue a windblown Adirondack chair that was making a run for Hwy 103, LOL! We have not tried the food at Current yet, but hope to do so before we head back to the valley. Pretty sure we'll stop in for coffee again, though. read more

The food was very good, we had the quiche Lorraine and corned beef hash. The TEA menu was amazing. I cannot have caffeine and the herbal tea menu was impressive! Absolute favorite cafe on the Peninsula. No matter what you get on the menu day or night it's always so incredible.... truly such great dishes. The juices and coffees they offer are always so delicious and perfectly made. The dishes served there are unique and flavorful. The atmosphere is wonderful. Update: 12/15/24. I'm a Long Beach local, and I want nothing more than to support local businesses, especially in the wicked off season. But after 4 consecutive failures, I need to update my review. I don't know if it's the personnel changes or what, but Current is no longer a 4 (or even 3) star restaurant. And it isn't just a specific time of day during which Current is failing. One evening, we ordered a pepperoni flatbread (burnt) and a Caesar salad to go. The Caesar salad was basically some romaine with a strange dressing, very un-Caesar like. We ended up returning both items. So we tried lunch. We got a salad that didn't include the correct cheese or salami. No explanation until we pointed it out. The next time we tried brunch. The quiche was burnt. We went again for brunch last week - this time the quiche was cold. Even when we asked to have it re-heated, it was cold after one bite. For the longest time, we recommended Current. But no longer. Until they make some changes, Current will get a pass. read more

20-something yuppie coffee house is how we would describe it. Relatively new. Modern architecture. We had breakfast but at 10:30 they had already run out of hash; substituted bacon for the meat part. It was perfectly fine and tasted great. Cubed potatoes needed to be cut smaller, but you can mash them down. I added my husband's arugala to mine and I think that made it. We were here for the ending day of the Long Beach International Kite Festival so they were not prepared for exiting tourist/kitefliers. Not sure why this spot only gets 3.8 stars. Our experience was much better than that. We stopped in for coffee and tea hanging out to do some work on our laptops. Great vibe and friendly staff. We went back the next morning and got breakfast. My shashuka was amazing. I make it at home and this was much more flavorful than mine. Husband and son got a sando and burrito and thought they were delicious. Husband loved the fresh brewed ice tea. He said it's probably the best he's ever had and he is a tea connoisseur. We visited twice this weekend while we were in town and we loved it! This is a welcomed addition to Long Beach. We only went for breakfast and coffee but we tried several of the dishes. In our group, we tried both breakfast burritos, the breakfast sando, the shakshouka, the quiche lorraine, the yogurt bowl, and a variety of coffees. Everything was great! Tried our new breakfast spot here in Long Beach, Wa. Great first impression: clean, friendly and have a locals discount! Their chai tea was good! Had family visiting so tried several things. The folks here are so nice! I got the current sandwich, it was delicious! Fluffy brioche bun with plenty of spinach, egg, bacon, avocado and aioli. My husband got a yogurt parfait and said it was pretty tasty. The older couple there were raving about the quiche and waffles they got as well. Lattes weren't super hot but I liked that they were immediately drinkable instead of having to wait for them to cool down. l I give this place one star because the food is actually great where it stops! The is nonexistent! My friend and I ordered something to eat and a coffee. I was served first waiting 15 minutes for her food to be went to the counter only to find out that they had forgotten her order and had not even started cooking it yet. There were dirty tables all around us. There were three tables that left while we were sitting there, and it took them a half an hour to come to clean off the tables.
