We checked in with the hostess who saw the notes for my requests. The hostess took care to seat us at the perfect table to enjoy each other, the view, and the music. I saw a review where the couple didn't like their table facing the view but side by side chairs. We got that same table - we loved it for the intimacy and view! (We did book at sunset rather than after dark. *Note--yes we were facing the ocean and sun was beaming in but it wasn't an issue due to the adjustable shade. The service was as such that I believe they would have accommodated us had we been unhappy. YAY - we got Alyssa as our server! I saw her name in a few Yelp reviews and she didn't disappoint. Randall, whose name I also saw was the bartender - and ditto for him. They serve a "Cocktail for a Cause" -- this month was for Pride. It went down fast so I ordered a Sazerac and was a happy sipper. Starters: Clam Chowder and Burrata. One of the BEST clam chowders I've had (Alyssa did say it was a new batch from earlier that day so lucky us.) The Burrata didn't dazzle my tastebuds but it was still good. ‍ Entrees: Fried Rock Fish with hand-cut fries -- good. They dust the fries with rice flour before frying...different but still tasty. My partner is a hand-cut fries traditionalist so I enjoyed them more than he. Alyssa....chicken or pork... she said pork so... Pork Schnitzel: perfectly prepared with a wonderful onion gravy! Served with fingerling potatoes and brussel sprouts. For my taste the fingerlings were a touch overdone and the brussels were a touch underdone (and no, I don't like mushy veg.) Black cherry, plum skin, dry cacao, a little amaro bitterness lingering at the back. No syrupy jam bomb, no over-oaked vanity. Slightly rough around the edges in a way that suggests actual people made it. Not profound, but honest, and honesty travels farther than perfection. Pork Schnitzel with Sautéed Asparagus (substituted), Roasted Fingerlings & Onion Gravy: The dish of the night. No foam, no tweezers, no lecture about deconstruction. Just a properly fried cutlet that shatters under the knife, earthy fingerlings, fresh asparagus, and a deep savory onion gravy that complements instead of suffocates. The asparagus substitution, by the way, was handled cleanly, no pushback, no fuss, which says something about a kitchen that respects the diner instead of the ego of the menu. One sharp note of acidity, a brighter mustard, sharper pickle, lemon over the schnitzel, would push it from "very good comfort food" to memorable. But maybe that's the point. I just feel like I make so much better food at home and for the prices they charge its so so. The good thing is the convenience especially if you stay at the adrift hotel. We were the first in the restaurant for Sunday morning breakfast (we stayed at the Adrift and just had to walk down the hallway to the front door). This place has the best view of the beach! We were seated at the large windows overlooking the ocean which was perfect. I got the frittata with a biscuit on the side and my husband got the French toast. The frittata was so flavorful and delicious, and the biscuit was HUGE and tasted great. The French toast came with chantilly cream, which was rich and so tasty. I've eaten here four times now because I genuinely wanted to give this restaurant a fair chance, but the inconsistency and repeated mistakes have made it very difficult to keep coming back. On a previous visit, my order was mixed up, and it took over 20 minutes to correct. When the replacement finally came out, it was so bad that I ended up returning it--which is something I have never done before. Tonight, I decided to give it one more try, but unfortunately the same issues happened again. One person in our party didn't receive their food until about 15 minutes after everyone else had already been served, and the second drink I ordered came out incorrect as well. At this point, it's not just a one-time mistake--it's a pattern of inconsistency and things continuing to be wrong. Whether it's communication, service, or the kitchen, something clearly isn't working. We have been going to this restaurant for years and our last few visits have been disappointing. The quality of the food has declined- the chicken ($42) was dry, the clam chowder was gritty and bland, the pizza was gross (per my child and spouse). The fries are different and not for everyone. Also, we waited for 12 minutes at the hostess station to even be greeted and our reservation was marked absent on Open Table. On a positive note, our server was great, the views are gorgeous if you come when it is light out, and the burger was good. The first night we were served by Alyssa who was attentive, great about good/ drink recommendations- both at the restaurant and for other places in town! The food was great (chicken and salmon) and the drinks were really great! We came back the next night for drinks and stay at the bar where Liz dazzled us with her skills. She was fun to talk to and went off script and made me the 2 fantastic drinks I've never tried. We can't wait to return next time we're in town on vacation. We almost didn't eat here tonight because of all the bad reviews I was reading, but I'm glad we decided to go. The service was great and we got in after a short wait while our table was being bussed. The cranberry margarita was great, we decided to get it after the flight sampler from the attached distillery the restaurant gets the cranberry liquer from. We got one with a sugar rim and the other with salt. With the amount of tartness, sugar was the way to go. The boyfriend ordered the crab pie after the distillery worker, I forgot his name (Sorry!) suggested it. It was also delicious and not something we've had crab on before. I loved the lemon ricotta that was dalloped on the top. I ordered th rigatoni with sausage added. I wasn't sure on the coconut milk but I ended up really liking it. It was spicier than expected but we polished off the whole bowl. The place was pretty lively for 8pm. We just got to see the last vistages of the sunset and they had live music somewhere in the back that i couldn't see but it didn't interrupt us being able to hold a conversation. This is my first 1 star review, I'm not a jerk I promise. I have a background in hospitality for over a decade, I currently manage a restaurant so I say this with a deep understanding that things happen out of our control and tough nights exist. I have never had service more atrocious than this establishment. My boyfriend had made reservations for us at 7:45, upon entering it took about ten minutes for two groups ahead of us to get acknowledged by staff. Every person that came to the front hostess podium was different. Most tried not to make eye contact with guests waiting and avoided acknowledging the people waiting entirely. By the time we finally made it up, I noticed they had six seats free along the window. We were waiting, and the couple ahead of us had reservations for the same time, were told to wait as our table wasn't ready yet but it would just be a couple of minutes. This was twenty minutes after our reservation time. We sat directly behind the podium, they eventually had more people come address others in the newly formed line. It turns out these people had reservations for 8 PM. They began seating couples with 8 pm reservations and completely skipped us. There was open tables, but no one seemed to be communicating that two couples waiting directly in front of them were waiting for a table and in retrospect I'm thankful because according to other reviews the experience did not improve upon being seated. Not a single person made an effort to check in, communicate, grab us a refreshment. We just were no longer acknowledged after being told to wait. I saw several servers collected together but did not see a single food plate go out. We left after waiting about 45 minutes for a reservation. A little communication goes a long way. It seemed as if everyone was doing all jobs and that's not a great way to run a restaurant as communication didn't happen between servers, the manager, or the customers and the team looked exhausted. We opted not to stay because the entire time we waited we didn't see a single food plate go out, and heard the bartender apologize over and over again about drink times. One couple was seated for 30 minutes before they got water. This is a small space. It appeared that they had 4-5 people serving/hostessing/bussing (because everyone did every job) not including the person that appeared to be the manager. Wait times like this should not have happened, and there was time to communicate with customers. They just opted not to and I hope through this they've learned a little communication goes a long way. People are kind and typically understanding if you let them know what's going on. (I suspect the kitchen was understaffed but I'm not sure because I didn't see a single food plate deliver to patrons there) Just tell people what's happening and communicate with your team. We did end up going to North Jetty Brewing and I would urge you to go there and relax with a pint of beer, prompt communicator service, and great sandwiches. read more

It's a small dining room and kid friendly (there were multiple families and little kids in here) it was not busy on a Friday night around 5:30. All seats can get a pretty good view of the ocean! I really wasn't expecting anything from Pickled Fish, seeing as to how it is part of the awful Adrift hotel, but I was very impressed with everything! I came here to see one of my favorite bands, and made a mini vacation out of it, staying at the Adrift hotel. The Pickled Fish staff is extremely helpful, friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. I was seated immediately, and was brought water right away. The clam chowder is superb, easily among the best I've ever had. I was also very impressed with the cheddar fondue, particularly with its silky smooth texture and complete lack of grittiness. The steak Diane was also extremely good. Very generous portion size, cooked perfectly, and deliciously flavorful. As a concert venue, Pickled Fish fares pretty well. Some seats have zero view of the stage, so if you want to see the performers, be sure to let the staff know that you're there to see the show. Pickled Fish is a really great restaurant. Went to Picked Fish for lunch and ordered the Fried Rockfish (which is a fish and chip) meal that comes with tartar sauce , ketchup, and lemons. The fish was perfectly fried and the French fries are exactly how I like them. Thinly cut fries. Overall the food was pretty good. The service was excellent. They were friendly and quick to get us to our table. The ambiance of the restaurant is really nice. I was seated near the windows where you can view Long Beach and the ocean, which made the experience really nice. The inside of the restaurant reminds me of a bar/ pub where it's mostly wooden. Stopped by Pickled Fish for a hot toddy before returning to our beautiful oceanfront rooms at Inn at Discovery Coast. Bartender introduced himself as Tonii, made us four good hot toddy's. We were sitting along wall facing ocean for about 10 minutes and at 15 minutes prior to closing, he shut off the lights leaving us on complete darkness! We were shocked! I guess this guy thinks that's a good way to say last call! Of course we all got up and left which is obviously what was intended. I stood at the bar and tried to give him my credit card to only be told I needed to wait for my server. I said, really? You expect us to wait in pitch black? I just stood there awkwardly until server came out of the kitchen. On a good note, breakfast service and food were great and server who brought evening hot toddy's was great. Unfortunately, the shockingly odd treatment of being left in the dark by the bartender will prevent us from ever returning in the future. read more

Chowder is some of best I've had. NY strip was cooked perfectly & quit tender, I'm guessing it was prime. I also shared an order of Manila clams, also very good & generous helping. Cesar salad was confirmed outstanding according to wife & daughter. They also had the salmon which they said was well cooke. Son in law had fish & chips (rock fish) & claimed it was mild white meat. To sum it up the Chowder & Cesar were actually outstanding, everything else was in the good column and nothing to complain about. One more thing, we dropped in without reservations on Memorial Day weekend (very busy) and the waitress went out of her way to get us sat down quickly. If I'm the recipient of rude or poor service I have no problem speaking up about it and letting others kno. As far as the surroundings, it's about the only place on the peninsula with a panoramic view of the ocean beach. I would give it zero stars but I can't. Let's start with the service. The hostess had no idea what she was doing and didn't tell us half the food on the menu was unavailable. She let people cut in line. There were so many people waiting as it was dinner time. She could not figure out what to do! The bartender was useless as well. If it takes you 20 mins to pour two glasses of wine you need to figure your shift coverage out. The waitress was friendly but again had no idea what she was doing. She looked like a deer in the headlights. I felt bad for her. On to the overpriced bs menu. As mentioned before half the menu was unavailable at 630-7 pm. We ended up with one bland crap cake that wasn't cooked correctly and it cost 36 bones. One crab cake!! It wasn't cooked properly there was no flavor to it at all! I couldn't get over the price! Ok ambience. I get the bro "industrial" look but this place is set up in a terrible way. The table we sat at was a board attached to the window. At least the seats were comfortable. It is also attached to Adrift hotel. It's your typical crowd. I'm cool and have lots of tattoos! Oh look at my cute dog! Get over yourself. No one gives a sh&t about your dog. This was one of the worst restaurant experience I have had in my going out. The food is way over priced and isn't even good. The service sucks. The ambience is crap. Save your money and yourself. Well, this was not our first choice for dinner, however they were absolutely the ONLY restaurant open after 8 on a Monday in Long Beach (except for the tavern). We called ahead because the website recommends reservations. We got there about 20 mins after the call and were told it would be 15 mins for a table, so we sat at the bar. We ordered two lemon drops and the rosemary focaccia at the bar, and watched as the bartender made the customer who ordered after us drink first....was a little disappointing, but let me tell you, the focaccia more than made up for it, and after a sip of the lemondrop...the wait was worth it. Right before our drinks were handed to us, our table was ready. To our surprise, there was live music and our table had a beautiful view of the ocean. We ordered our food and it came out very quickly. My friend also had the Mac and cheese, her side was the side of salmon and I got the garden salad. Service was quick, food was quick, music was good, and the second round of lemon drops were just as good as the first. This will be a must visit every time I'm in Long Beach from now on. read more

Okay so visited Long Beach for the first time and this place was a must on the list. We were excited to visit for the views of the Pacific Ocean. Although it was a cloudy evening, it was still fun to lookout and see the water. This restaurant is located inside the Adrift Hotel so it was pretty busy on a Friday night. We had a wait time of about 40 minutes for a table of 2 but that was no problem we sat the bar and ordered drinks until our table was ready. The bar tender was very busy and it took a while to get our drinks. Finally our table was as ready and we sat for maybe 15 minutes before our waitress came. She was confused and asked if we were ordering food since she saw us at the bar earlier we told her yes we were just waiting for a table at the bar. She told us that no one let us know that we were seated and apologized. I had the cranberry margarita and my boyfriend had the old fashion, both were really good. We ordered fried oysters and the crab cake for our appetizer, both were great. Our main dishes however were not that great. I ordered the rock fish and chips, the fish was on the dry side and not seasoned and the fries weren't seasoned either like no flavor at all.
