This is a bakery to bookmark. Every visit to Long Beach, Dylan's saves the day for someone if not everyone in the group. Whether it's the freshest sandwich on house made bread, or one of their sweet treats or specialty loaves, or a place to chill out for a few minutes... thank you Dylan! However I wish thier merch was better. Would love to do some "free advertising" for them but the paste white stamped logo doesn't do it for me. The mugs and reusable shoppers are solid but I would have rather purchased a tshirt or hoodie if there were bigger sizes, better quality and a better graphic. Still love this place though! read more

The variety of pastries & sweets is significant. The day old selections were an added bonus with two hungry adolescent boys. The Bavarian devil dog was significantly lacking filling, what was there was delicious. Sticky buns were a hit as were the old-fashioned & raised glaze rings. It hit the spot for after breakfast sweet treats as we left town with a big box. Counter service was on point from some very friendly & helpful folks. Average tasting treats at a fair price. You can definitely do worse, when out to the Long beach, but you cannot find better here. read more

Four days ago, my Mother got two maple bars. They were dry, stale and tasted like they were three or four days old. Yesterday, I bought two Devil Dogs, because they used to be, after all, the most decadent treat ever!! Not so anymore. The filling is flavorless, and the chocolate drips off the top before you can even finish half. It is as if they have gone for profit over quality. We've had sandwiches there in the last few months, too. The bread has been stale every time. We won't be spending much money there anymore, and we are locals. Very sad that they don't seem to care about the quality that they are putting out. read more

This bakery was great! They opened very early. We went at about 8:30 AM thinking they might be low on an inventory but absolutely not! The only tough part about coming here was what to get!? There were so many options! All four of us got a donut but wanted more so we settled on a second item as well! I even went with a day old buttermilk bar that was only $.59 and it tasted just as good as fresh! Will definitely turn this place into a habit! read more

Last visit was back in 2013, here's another update for our visit on 6/17/25. I was amazed at the pastry case availability despite it being early afternoon. The Homie picked two kinds of maple bars, one regular and the other filled and with chocolate drizzled. I picked a strawberry racetrack, thought it was a danish, but it was a denser cinnamon type dough. The other I had later in the day was a classic glazed Old Fashioned. This is also a great lunch option with their vast and customizable deli sandwiches. Just follow the arrows on the floor for an organized line for the counter staff. read more

Yummy and just right on so many levels. This is the spot middle of town where visitors become locals. The staff is busy but friendly and there are choices to make! Deli- I'm stuck on the BLT on their bread. The bacon is thick and well seasoned and it is just a good choice whenever I stop by! Treats- love the cinnamon twist for the glazed yum. When I visit Astoria I make a special trip back to Longview, just to go to this bakery. Specifically I'd go for a slice of the amazing carrot cake. Unfortunately they decided to change the carrot cake into a smaller individual square of cake, that's no longer covered with delicious cream cheese frosting. It's now topped with something more akin to fondant. I found it inedible and sad, opting to throw it away instead of eating it. I assumed (eventually) there'd be changes, i just wish it wasn't the carrot cake. The pies have also changed from slices to small individual pies. The donuts are still good and so if the bread but I'm ambivalent about returning now. read more

We enjoyed the raspberry pastry the most. The cinnamon roll had walnuts. The cinnamon roll and almond leaf were not that sweet to taste but still really good. The apple fritter wasn't bad either. Cute place, reasonably priced, I had the onion poppyseed bagel with lox, cream cheese and capers; the bagel was more cake like, It was ok, the salmon seemed tough and very cold (almost frozen-ish), thicker sliced than I'm used to. I probably wouldn't order that again. Bakery cookies are scrumptious, Pie's, donuts are huge and pastry, all looked wonderful. I bought some things for the road, Mexican wedding cookie, coconut chocolate macaroon, almond crispy and 2 blueberry streusel muffins. The team at this bakery are so friendly and accommodating. We've had several treats, in the week we've been here, so far. The biscuits and gravy are as good as you'd expect. The gravy needs some seasoning and the biscuits are dry and a bit tough. The devil dog was not what I was expecting, but that's on me. I am used to something totally different. The breakfast sandwich my husband ordered was great. The oatmeal? Yeah, no. I wouldn't order it again. It's VERY thick and if you use the milk it comes with to thin it down, then it's too cold to eat. The Bismarcks are very good. The line was very long the first time we went, but moved along quickly. The lines have been shorter during the week. It's unfortunate that the parking is so difficult to obtain. I guess that's the price you pay for it's location. The first thing they tell you when you pay is about the tip. That's usually obvious. read more

I came here 2 days in a row because the GF chocolate dipped macaroon was soooo delicious. Day 2, I got additional cookies, and was glutened. They assured me it was GF, but my body tells me otherwise. went here both days of our trip and plan to visit again. the service provided was a nice neighborhood feeling; welcoming. it's street parking on the main road, good location. we ordered maple bar, cream horn, chocolate chip cookie, cake donut, persian, club sandwich on a chedder roll and a spanish breakfast sandwich. Oh! and on both days I got a caramel breve, one day hot and the other iced. I loved it. Our least favorite of the items was the cream horn and chocolate chip cookie. You must stop here while in Long Beach, but beware, the lines can get very long. They have delicious donuts, pastries, cookies, truffles, breads, and even a deli. I haven't tried the deli, yet, but that's my plan this next summer! Also, the deli line is much shorter, so if you're heading in for lunch, it could be much quicker. read more

This place has a lot of very very fattening baked pastries. Not overly my kind of bakery. The only thing that looked appealing to me was an orange chocolate cake donut thing. It was small and it was ok. My boyfriend though got a few things and really enjoyed them. This bakery just was not one of my favorite places I've been in. When you are awake in the wee small hours of the morning, about the only game in town is Dylan's Cottage Bakery & Deli. They open at 4:00a seven days a week, which is crazy. I was staying a few miles north of Ocean Park and most restaurants in the area didn't open until 9:00a, so this was well worth the drive. They are famous for their devil dogs (Bavarian cream filled pastries with various toppings), but I ordered a breakfast sandwich, The French, which is made with a beautifully flaky croissant. Sandwiches, for a day at the beach, were ordered and of course a tasty pastry for the road. Order and pay at the far end of the counter, then they call your number to pick up at the other end. Very limited seating indoors with three booths and four stools along the front window. They also have a loud bell that dings upon every entrance and exit, so I recommend you take your items to go and enjoy on the beach boardwalk which is only a few blocks away. Great food and fun to visit a local institution that has been in business over since 1908. New owners took over in 2020 and it is a smooth running operation. read more

This is one of my favorite spots in Long Beach. They are open 7 days a week except for Christmas and Thanksgiving. Be prepared for a long line, as this place is hoppin' on the weekends and holidays, but it's worth the wait. They now accept credit cards, so no need to stop at an ATM first anymore. Doughnuts are good and fresh, but what I really love is the breakfast sandwiches that are served all day on your choice of house baked bread, croissant, or bagel. There's very limited seating (three small booths and 4 bar seats) so don't count on being able to sit down there to eat. They also serve a few hot breakfasts like biscuits and gravy, and really great deli sandwiches, espresso, and pie. You won't want to skip this spot if you are in the area. read more

And of course we had a pandemic. Prices are much higher than a few years ago. Likely for good reason I hope. But they do accept credit cards now which accounts for some increase, but thats the way the world is heading away from cash. Line control is great. I miss the fabulous breads tho - they used to be front/center, I dont see it anymore? do they still make bread? I stopped in and got a few donuts. Despite my only ordering three, and the person at the counter asking me to repeat my order, it still wasn't correct, so service is frustrating. The donuts I did get were nothing to write home about, but were fresh, with a little bit more of a chewy texture than most (I liked that about them, actually). The line formed at 8:15 a.m. on a Sunday at the most popular bakery in Long Beach. The Spanish breakfast sandwich on a homemade Fregasa roll was excellent, while the maple bar with bacon more than decent. Wish they had some sort of hot sauce besides Tabasco packets. Food value and service are top notch! Can get some tasty treats without breaking the bank which is huge for any coastal town eatery. We went in off season so no wait but I do see there is an option to order ahead with its own pick up window if you're concerned about that! The food was tasty enough but at its prices I'm not expecting stellar. We got the almond leaf which was fine but I wish we had gotten the best claw instead as the caramelized chewiness wasn't quite my jam. We snagged a German chocolate brownie as recommended by other reviews and it did not disappoint!!! The next day we tried the (I believe) French breakfast sandwich which was fine but definitely great value. My hubby loved the way the egg was cooked and nothing compares to a fresh croissant. Other reviews mentioned it lacking flavor and I agree a nice sauce would have made it stellar but can't argue with it for the price. We also gave up no donut January to try the caramel apple fritter. I really wanted to love it but it was just fine. The bakery's caramel flavor profile may just not be my jam. And being it was a weekend away we grabbed a HUGE (as in bigger than my son's face) chocolate chip cookies to bring home to our kiddos. Not the world's best but yummy and HUGE for $3.50. You can't beat the value - about $15 for 2 pastries and a mocha, and about $17 for a breakfast sandwich, fritter and HUGE cookie. And the service was attentive and even remembered us from the day before. If you're in the area, give it a try!!! read more

Old run down cluttered bakery. The line wasn't too long and they had a lot of pastry options on display. The elderly lady at the register was very annoyed when I asked if they had bagels since none were on display. It's a bakery after all. She rolled her eyes and asked what kind of bagel I wanted. I asked if they had everything bagels and she said no. They only offered poppyseed and plain. I ordered a plain bagel with cream cheese to go. It took 20 minutes for the kitchen in the back to toast a bagel and put cream cheese on it. It tasted good, but I wouldn't call it a bagel. It was flaky like a croissant. Definitely a tourist attraction, but not worth the wait and bad service. read more

I have been to this bakery many times and am always happy. However, today was different. I will say the coffee was good . I was hoping for my favorite Sailor Jack, but they didn't make any today. It is the off season, so I understood and said I would come back tomorrow. I ordered a Buttermilk Bar as I have also had them here and they have been delicious. This particular bar was very very dry and crumbly. I told the person working there that it didn't taste fresh. The worker apologized and said to come back tomorrow and get another one when I come back to get a Sailor Jack. I won't be going back. read more

They've been here for many many years and are a fabulous bakery. The food and service are amazing and we won't go anywhere else. I've been coming here since 1984 and dropped by for a Date Rollup and a raised Sugar doughnut. I've since introduced my husband to Dylan's and the bounty of goodies. He loves the homemade Biscuits & Gravy and I get a customized and fancyfied California breakfast sandwich on a Croissant with several strips of bacon. They very kindly indulge me! They bake quite a variety of yummy breads, especially the most delicious Ryes! Since we don't live close, we stock up on bread & goodies like my favorite Sugar doughnuts, Nutella Cream Horns, my husband's Raspberry racetracks and so much more. I also grab a dozen or two when I go down to my Orthopod at Columbia Memorial in Astoria and share the wealth. I've passed out many doughnuts with the phrase "they're from Cottage Bakery" and create lots of smiles! We need kindness and this is our way! Finally, a tip for newcomers, get there early to avoid long lines especially during weekends, vacations & holidays. It's a family place for families with a cozy Ambiance! The place was pretty packed Saturday morning around 8. But the line was moving fast, and the pastry cases were overflowing with almost any pastry one could want. We each ordered a breakfast sandwich, one on a croissant the other on a muffin. We also each picked out a pastry, lemon cake donut for me and a blueberry almond pastry for the hubby. For drinks, a drip (self serve) and a latte. The pastries are provided at the time of order, with a bit of a wait for the sandwiches and latte. The sandwiches are big, with a lot of egg. My husband really enjoyed the croissant version, after trying mine too he said his was definitely the superior choice. The donut was good, however even though he enjoyed the blueberry pastry, I found it waaaay too sweet. Good drip coffee, an average latte. I was SHOCKED when I went to pick up my customer cake from them! I could not believe they would even give it to me as a special ordered cake! Customer service was horrible! Sadly I had to order another cake from a different bakery as this was for my 8yr old son's party. I've gone here for years for pastries, which are always good and thought I would order a birthday cake from them which was a bad decision! Am sure many enter this bakery in search of a pastry.. I SEARCH for good DARK RYE bread (preferably without wheat flour...almost impossible to find unless in EUROPE). To my delight this bakery had 3 types of RYE bread (unusual...unless its a German run bakery). Finally settled on the Lympu Rye with molasses, caraway seeds, SHORTENING(!), rye, & yes it was Americanized with wheat flour. Very sandwich good bread & freezes well too. Then I spied the last piece of strawberry/rhubarb pie still sitting in the glass display case (50% off) & grabbed it. Later had that piece of pie heated & a la mode, & was absolutely wonderful. Dylans Cottage Bakery now has me hooked... May have to try a pastry next. read more
