Stopped by on my way out of town, it was a nice little spot. It was very clean and welcoming with nautical vibes. Immediately as we walked through the door we were greeted and asked if we wanted a highchair. Originally weren't going to stop because my kids already ate but both my husband and I were starving. We both ordered a ham eggs Benedict, and can I say that it was the BEST Hollandaise Sauce I've ever had. It was served with hash browns. I wish I was a little more adventurous and got the crab Benedict, but maybe next time. I ordered a Tequila Sunrise, and my husband got a Bloody Mary. My drink was not strong, which was nice for a breakfast drink. My kids ordered hot chocolates, they both loved them. My oldest said it was very rich. The parking was very small, but there was free street parking out front, there is also a cute little pond in the yard adjacent to the to the restaurant, the staff even gave my children Pennies to make a wish into it. read more

Attempted to have a huge breakfast here with my friend and her daughter to catch some of the parade. The waitress refuelsed to let us sit at either table by the window because there was 10 minutes left until they closed, and it was 'entirely possible' two parties of 10 would come in and need those tables. Ugh, okay, wouldn't want to make any money from three paying customers who wanted all the breakfast foods in hopes that a party might come in and fill that table. Seems like an easy choice to make. You're a business, take our money. So no pics or anything because we didn't even get the opportunity to eat there. read more

One of our favorite breakfast places in Long Beach. Easy to get to as they are on the main strip through town. The staff is so friendly, the food is delicious. Everything comes out quickly and hot. Portions can be big so get s to go box for leftovers. They can get busy during the summer season so you may have to wait for a table but it's worth it. Casual environment and not super loud but can be when there are large parties. Check them out the next time you're in Long Beach. read more

Service was incredible, this was our third time and it has been consistent over the past year! Pancakes were a great size, we were skeptical at $4 a pancake, but was worth it! Server called them "plate cakes" and she was right ! I got the croissant sandwich, very well priced and tasted great. Husband got an eggs Bennie and enjoyed it too. Here I was wondering why such a nice little spot with food that looked real good (and affordable) could have such a low rating. We went in and waited nearly 5 minutes for someone to come out and seat us. The place was empty. Two other groups came in while we were eating. The food looked good, but one of the poached eggs was broken and had uncooked egg whites. The hashbrowns tasted like spoiled grease. Both my wife and I had stomach problems the rest of the day. Not sure where the"allows dogs" came from. The DO NOT have a place for dogs. Only service dogs are allowed. Nice atmosphere. Staff is really nice. Food is really good. Pancake is the size of a plate. Staff is friendly and even on a Monday their was a short wait before a table was available. The food is a mixed review. The coffee is standard would see at a Pig N Pancake in Seaside OR or an IHOP. The kids French toast is large enough to split with 2 young ones and for $3 bucks is a deal. Overall prices reasonable as two adult breakfasts (including a crab bennny) a kids meal coffee x2 and a medium OJ was just over $50. The crab cake Benedict (no English muffin) was tasty. Could tasty the sweet crab and the hollandaise was solid. The homemade country fried steak and eggs was a little disappointing as meat although tender was bland. Top points: 1) the service was amazing -prompt/friendly/consistent, 2) they allowed us to bring in our small dog (and even brought him treats), 3) the menu allowed for everything we were hoping to find (including many other tempting offers), 4) the food was very high quality (as a vegetarian - I love a breakfast burrito and this one was FANTASTIC), 5) the prices were reasonable, 6) the place was so welcoming and friendly overall, and 7) the takeaway packages were Earth-friendly. This was our first time checking out Bensons for breakfast. The 3 star rating had me concerned but willing to give it a try. We walked in, and was seated right away. The place is clean and inviting. The wait staff was very attentive. Smaller menu is always appealing to me because for the most part it means that they have perfected a few key it's and focus on the taste and quality of those dishes. We ordered the strawberry French toast, breakfast sandwich and cheddar bacon biscuits and gravy. OH MY GOSH!!! The food was excellent!!! Everything was Fresh. The biscuits and gravy was flipping fantastic!!! Probably the best flavor we've ever had. I am thankful that we stopped in and did not get scared away by the previous reviews. I find that people will throw a negative review because of stupid things. I'm here to say, I would absolutely eat here again and would recommend this to anyone looking for a warm delicious breakfast meal!! read more

Pretty standard breakfast fare. The hash browns are actually crisp and well seasoned, a feat many breakfast places struggle with. Their egg cookery is pretty good, but the hollandaise sauce had a weird flavor to it. I'd go here again, but i wouldn't order a Benedict. read more

We had a Monday morning breakfast at Benson's and both my wife and myself enjoyed it very much. There should be a "very good" choice. This is not a gourmet restaurant, it's very simple, classic American breakfast food, done very well. We were quickly seated and when we ordered the food came out pretty quickly. My wife had bacon and eggs with hash browns and sourdough toast. Four nice strips of bacon, the "over medium" eggs were just that, and the sourdough toast appeared to be a local product. I had a cheddar cheese omelet with roasted garlic, hash browns, and rye toast. The omelet was a nice size, two or three eggs, with a good cheddar and the rye bread also was very flavorful and appeared to be perhaps a local product. The hash browns were classic; thin, brown, and crispy on the outside, moist and tasty on the inside, and again a nice portion. The prices were very reasonable in today's inflationary reality and we'll certainly look to Benson's first for breakfast during our visits to Long Beach. read more

Apparently one of the few places that serves breakfast in Long Beach. It wasn't stellar, but it wasn't bad at all. Just an all-around average, no-frills experience. I have had pancakes in Maine (where they have good pancakes), and I had the pancakes at Benson's. I just enjoyed the big, fluffy pancakes at Benson's. About the size of a 33 record (for those of you that know what I'm talking about)! =) With a side order of sausage and bottomless coffee, I was good to go. Had expectations for good breakfast but this was so disappointing. The food was not good at all and way overpriced. They brought us pancake and charged 5 dollars for strawberry and another dollar for whipping cream. The server forgot to mentioned that those are extras and cost extra. We left with paying over 79 dollars for the two adults and 2 kids. Our orange juice came out with good and crab cake Benedict was made from store bought strung crab. I ordered the sliced ham Egg Benedict with a side of bacon and my husband got biscuits and gravy. It arrived timely but was slightly disappointing. The Ham Egg Benedict was flavorful but the English muffin could have been more crispy. The biscuits and gravy wasn't where we had expected it to be. The service was thoughtful and quick. Keep in mind this is a tiny town who makes the bulk of their money during the beach tourist season. We visited during the labor day weekend. This is one of the only open restaurants open for brunch on Sundays. At 10am, the main streets are already bustling with tourists and locals. We found parallel street parking about 2 blocks south. We called and they put our name on the waitlist for 4 adults. They stated it would be about 20 minutes. We arrived and checked in with the hostess. The walk was about 5 minutes. The wait time was changed to 30 minutes. We went outside and sat at the picnic table to wait for our table. At 20 minutes, we went inside to confirm that they would come outside to notify us when our table is ready. They confirmed. We had the eggs benedict, pancake stack, biscuits and gravy as well as the chicken fried steak. Overall the seasoning is a little off however nothing was inedible. The chicken fried steak had way too much garlic powder. I threw it away. The pancakes were huge and tasted like flour. I highly recommend adding some sugar, vanilla extract, milk instead of water, and a pinch of salt for help with the raw flour taste. The pancakes are quite large. The biscuits are possibly frozen but gravy was agreeable. It could use a touch of herbs like sage or fennel. Otherwise it was good for dipping bread. Service was slow but expected. Staff were courteous and very busy. We paid $120 for 4 people. Pets appeared to be acceptable here which is a bonus. read more

We came in recently to enjoy brunch at Benson's. I would say in general, this restaurant is the same as my star rating: A-OK. We came here during Labor Day weekend but we came the day after, so on a Tuesday. I tried calling the restaurant just to confirm they are open but there was no answer. I still don't know if this was because their phone line wasn't working (I would expect a dial tone then but it was full on ringing) or if they were too busy they just couldn't answer the phone. We took our chances and came here before we had to check out of our hotel and luckily they were open. 1) Veggie Scramble - There are some mornings where I just am not in the mood to eat any meat, so I ordered the veggie scramble. It was decent! There wasn't a huge amount of flavor (could've used a bit more seasoning/salt). I was disappointed the side it came with was toast and not potatoes/hash browns/fruit/etc. But I was pleasantly surprised at the portion size! 2) Seafood Omelet - My husband ordered the seafood omelet and also thought the same thing: A-OK. The flavor was okay and he wished the actual omelet was bigger than the amount of hash browns he received. The service in general was also A-OK. We had to wait a bit to place our food order (even though our drink order was taken very quickly). We also had to wait a bit for someone to pick up our check after we received it. We actually saw a nearby table just take their check up to the front to pay so that's what we ended up doing as no one came by our table again to pick up our check. I wasn't totally blown away by the food here but it was a convenient spot for us to have a quick brunch before ending our vacation in Long Beach. read more
