Dog friendly with a Puppy Menu, great tasting food, and an attentive staff! Couldn't ask for more.

The Cove is arguably the best restaurant in Long Beach. It's part of the golf course and doesn't have a ton of seating, but you can easily make a reservation online. Service is friendly, the menu is varied, they have a good kids menu, and the food is fresh and delicious. All four of us loved what we got tonight. My favorite was probably the BLTTA sandwich, but the sweet potato fries with honey mustard for dipping is TOP TIER. Our server was Cara, and she was sweet and offered great suggestions and she told us about some upcoming holiday events they were having which we will likely attend. Our bill at the end was very reasonable. The Cove will be our go-to from now on! read more

Stopped in for lunch on a Sunday around 1pm. Restaurant wasn't too busy and we were seated right away. Service was friendly, accommodating and helpful. We chose to sit on the back patio overlooking the golf course. The patio is covered and has about 6-8 tables. Love all their beautiful flowers surrounding the building! The menu has a nice variety of options for both food and drinks. We ended up ordering the BLTTA sandwich with house made chips, the reuben sandwich with sweet potato waffle fries and one of their daily specials, brisket with macaroni and cheese. The food was fresh and delicious! Everything was cooked perfectly and we all finished our food. No leftovers. We especially loved the sweet potato waffle fries; crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. The turkey on the BLTTA was not lunch meat, it was fresh turkey breast. So yummy! Overall a wonderful experience. We will definitely be back to try some of their other menu items. Highly recommend. read more

We've eaten there many times and never had a problem, great prime rib and such, so when we ordered roast beef and Reuben sandwich's to go, we we're surprised, they were the worse we'd ever eaten! What a greasy mess, the toast was mushy and soaked with grease... we both ended up with upset stomachs! I do not recommend ordering sandwich's to go! read more

It's not my favorite but it's okay. Tried the prime rib only once, had lots of fat, I had to send the fat back and all for more meat. The cook should of caught that before sending it out. read more

Update: 8/8/2024. Gotta drop The Cove down to 2 stars. The last couple times we've eaten there, it was underwhelming. At this price point - $29 for steak and 3 shrimp, with fries?!? - we expected more. Steak wasn't seasoned that well. And I'm fairly certain the Chicken Sandwich was chicken tenders, not a chicken breast. I hate writing less than stellar reviews of local places, but I can't let a 5-star review stand from 3+ years ago when the current product isn't worth more than 2 stars. The service was excellent. Maybe an off day but not the same old Cove. Server got one of the orders wrong, chips were stale, hand pressed burger tasted and looked more like a frozen Kirkland patty, asked for medium rare and it was medium well. Used to be on top 5 for the pennisula. We'll try again and hope it improves. read more

Seared ahi tuna covered in sesame was very fresh, and the side salad was remarkably colorful and had a genuine ginger soy dressing. The "crème caramel" cheesecake was a surprisingly good blend of flavors. Nice ambience with tall windows facing the golf course, and a pescaterian theme with fish and lobsters on the wall. read more

We dropped in and placed a to-go order on Thursday night. Nice quiet location on the golf course. They let us know it would be a 20 minute wait, but it ended up being about 35. We chose the steak and prawns meal and roast beef Swiss dip and fries. The steak was small, a little tough but had good flavor...as did the vegetable medley. The 3 prawns lacked flavor. The service wasn't bad, the restaurant was clean and had a cute theme, but the food was utterly disappointing. I ordered the udon noodle bowl and added chicken for an additional $5, my husband got the chicken, my mother got the shrimp scampi, and my brother got the blue cheese burger. The udon bowl had four small pieces of chicken, they were dry and not seasoned (honestly it tastes boiled), and the sauce tasted exactly like the Tai Pei frozen meals. The vegetables were not cut evenly, some pieces were cooked really well while others were still hard, and the vegetable medley appeared to be half frozen vegetables and half fresh vegetables. The chicken piccata was similar to the chicken in the udon noodle bowl, it tasted boiled and was unseasoned. The chicken was very thickly cut, where it should be a thin piece of chicken, but the piece was also small, probably only 3 oz. The plating was sloppy, the chicken and pasta were separate, and then the pasta was topped with a frozen vegetable medley. The sauce tasted almost identical to the shrimp scampi, with just a slightly more artificial lemon flavor. The bread felt unnecessary and tasted a little old. The shrimp scampi came with five pieces of shrimp and about a cup of noodles with a very watery, and what I can only assume, lemon sauce with a pieces of parsley and some sort of tomatoes. It also came with a ciabatta roll that was cut in half and halfheartedly grilled with some oil, but the oil tasted as though it had gone bad. The blue cheese burger was honestly the best thing we had tonight, the bacon and blue cheese was strong, and the meat was cooked well. The seasoned crispy fries were well cooked but just unseasoned. As a side note, I would also assume that the water is well water because of the strong earthy taste. My mother and brother couldn't handle the taste of it (my husband and I just didn't drink anything) so they ordered a soda and a shirley temple, and those had an even stronger flavor, kind of musty/moldy tasting. This could just be the water used to clean the dishes and make the ice, but just be aware because it was certainly surprising. read more

The owner was the one taking care of us and was very friendly! you can tell he cares about his customers and staff. They even had games for the kids to play with outside. The food was good. Went in on a weekday and it wasn't busy at all. The service was quick and our waitress was very kind. You are right by the golf course and the atmosphere felt nice. Stopped in for a quick lunch. The service was amazing; the waitress was very attentive and nice. My Cesar salad with blackened chicken was yummy. But very small portion. Had more of the portion of a side salad with maybe half a chicken breast. Was expecting a bigger potion. My husband ordered the burger and slaw. He said the burger was just okay and had a frozen patty taste to it. He ordered it medium and came out well done. And the slaw was not good, he ended up not eating it. Worst lunch ever, had ro use the TOAST app, ordered an pair of sliders, medium rate and expected the hamburgers. Hubby got home with baked chicken patties on buns, no fries. They remade them but in his struggle to go get them he left the chicken sliders on the side of the freezer and they wanted them back, then didn't say that. I've been here several times and it's always consistently average or higher. Nothing wrong with that. Clam chowder was ok, better than a can! Slightly pasty. I hate the price and size of the bowl, but it's about the same price same size bowl everywhere else. Burger was under seasoned, but it was fine. The sweet potato fries are great. We stopped here for dog friendly dining out and were initially excited by their welcome and immediate seating outdoors by the golf course. The staff was friendly if really slow and not mindful of the table's needs. We ordered artichoke bites, a bowl of clam chowder, a Cobb salad, a Reuben sandwich with fries, and a house salad and iced tea to drink. My glass of water never got refilled and my husband had finished his tea from the very beginning and it never got refilled. My soup came out lukewarm but my salad was delicious and the appetizer of the artichoke bites came out with our meal making it difficult to enjoy both the appetizer and the meal. But the hard part to understand is my husband's Ruben sandwich which came out burnt with rubbery corned beef and almost no sauerkraut even though it looked like a hefty sandwich. He ultimately wound up not eating yet or the fries because none of it tasted right. He kept saying that all he could taste was burnt bread which given the state of the bread made sense. Our waitress did at least comp our meal for the Reuben sandwich and for the turkey bites that did not come out for our dogs until the check was available. They have a long way to go before they would be what I'd consider middle of the road service with middle of the road food. read more

We WANT to like this place, we really do. But we've tried it twice now and honestly, it's just not good. In a nutshell, I don't think they use seasoning. The food is bland. Four of us ordered clam chowder. It was like eating a bowl of warm milk. When we ordered it the server mentioned they were getting low on it, so we suspect it was "stretched" with extra cream. Flavorless. Three of us ordered different pasta dishes, a stroganoff, a cajun alfredo, and a scampi. Imagine our surprise when the food arrived and we were all served the same meal! All three dishes used linguini noodles, and all three dishes used the same base sauce. The only difference was that one was slightly beef flavored, one was slightly Cajun flavored, and one was slightly butter flavored. My husband's meal was covered in shrimp instead of the chicken he ordered. He can't eat shrimp so we gave it back to the server. They quickly removed the shrimp and returned the same dish with a microwaved, totally unseasoned chicken breast on top. Beware of this if you have a seafood allergy. My scampi was so awful I asked for a refund. I never do this and felt genuinely bad for doing so, however, scampi is a rare and special treat for me. I simply couldn't justify spending $27 on THIS dish. The server offered to bring me something else, but our party of five ordered five different entrees and no one was truly enjoying their food, so I opted out of trying again. We thought our first experience was just an off night, but since the second experience was worse, I don't think we'll be back. read more

We stopped in here on our way out of town and really enjoyed it! A beautiful day, sitting on the patio with our dogs, not a bad way to head out. I usually think golf course restaurants are kind of weird, but this was really chill and pretty good food! Great beer selection as well. I am a fish and chip nut, so that's what I got. The menu didn't let me know there were options for 2, 3, or 4 pieces so that was a pleasant surprise. Also, the choice between halibut and cod, which I always appreciate. Halibut is the correct choice, of course. I opted for three pieces, which the server informed me should be about right, because sometimes the pieces are smaller. Not so! These were pretty big pieces and I found myself wishing I'd gone for two. But, I had some good helpers. The battered fries were also crispy, hot, and perfectly seasoned. Whoever was working the kitchen last Monday afternoon was killin' it. My fiancé got the "Thanksgiving Massacre" as I would call it, which consists of turkey, cranberry, cream cheese, etc, all on a sandwich. That's not my thing, but she really enjoyed it so I have to note that here. All around, I was impressed for a little town like Long Beach. I can't believe I haven't stopped in here before, since we come to town fairly frequently. read more

Worst Service ever. We arrived 1.5 before closing. One waitress said it was a 25-minute wait. I saw empty tables. I went to the bathroom, came back and the rest of my party was seated. Waited over an hour for food to arrive. They told me they were out of what I wanted. But from the serving size it looked like half a serving of salmon. They would not accept the BOGO coupon for a free entree. I ordered a salmon entree and my husband ordered a burger. They claimed that a burger which was $10 less than the salmon is not an entree so we cannot get it for free. Nowhere on the coupon did it state such an exclusion. I think they were trying to get rid of us when they lied about the wait. Well they succeeded I will never return to this restaurant. False advertising and horrible service. read more

First, the food was delicious. I had the Seared Salmon, and my husband had the Steak and Prawns. The waitstaff were so upbeat and friendly. We had our dog with us, and we were able to bring him along to eat in the outdoor seating. They have a Pup menu with a choice of beef patties, turkey bites or fish. The ambience is casual but classy. Had lunch here. Soup and the Ahi starter. Ahi was just the way I like it. Seared with a cold red center. Nicely done and finished with the usual wasabi, ginger, and soy based sauce. The coffee was way better than average, but the soup, while tasty, was served lukewarm. That's a basic check for a cook, so had to knock a star off. Server was pleasant and took immideate care of things. I'd go back if ever in that area again. read more

For our mains two of us got shrimp and it was good,one had a Cobb salad that was mediocre, one had the Ruben and it was good. Two of us had the prime rib stroganoff, it was a solid zero, absolutely terrible. I think it was fettuccine with a sprinkle of 1/8x1/4 inch chunks of beef sprinkled over it... and the food was Luke warm when served. The ambiance was 1960 cafeteria style. Then came the bill. We asked for three separate bills. She had to rerun the bills 7 or 8 times. All in all, probably the worst restaurant experience in my 73 years. read more

One of the main reasons we stopped by The Cove for lunch was the pup patio - you can bring your dogs! There were only 3 tables out on the patio so if you plan on bringing in your dog with you, best to make a reservation. And of course they supply water bowls for them! We ordered our dog the Cove Puppy Patty - it was a generous size beef patty and they already cut it up into smaller pieces! Of course it comes out hot so you will need to wait a bit before feeding it to your dog. :) As far as the human food goes, we were extremely pleased! 1) Fish & Chips - My husband ordered the fish & chips (3 pieces of fish), which was plenty enough for him. He also commented to say the chips were also extremely good and crunchy! 2) Three cheese Extreme Grilled Cheese - I always love me some grilled cheese and was immediately intrigued when I saw they offered it with tomatoes, bacon, and pesto. I never had grilled cheese with this combination and definitely wanted to give it a try and am so glad I did! I will now be cooking my own grilled cheese with these same ingredients. There was a generous amount of bacon included, along with just the right amount of cheese - not too little, not too much. One of my favorite places for a nice lunch. Whether you are after a burger (best on the Peninsula, IMHO), the fish and chips, or one of their delicious soups, you can't go wrong. But my favorite menu item of all here is the stir fry. I like mine with prawns, but they are just as good with just vegetables. It's fresh and served with udon noodles. Service is friendly and helpful. A view of the golf course from anywhere in the room. You can't go wrong. read more
