To start, its no longer 'Anita's', its simply Coastal Cafe. Guess Yelp wouldn't accept my business edit. The restaurant was sold a couple years back, and the new owners adopted a 'continental' breakfast/lunch menu, and switching to local 'El Compadre' menu (Mexican) for dinner. So if you like El Compadre, you'll like this. we recently ordered the Enchilada/Relleno combo and a super burrito for take out. El Compadre has always strived for earth friendly packaging for take out. They use a tin container (yay) with a plastic lid (boo) now. But its better than all styro/plastic, eh? Food was hot and yummy. Its your typical rice/beans combo plates here. I'm glad I dont have to drive all the way to Long Beach now for my Mexican fix :) The chips/salsa were fresh and good. Service at the counter was friendly. Small surcharge for take out. Small private parking lot. read more

nice quiet local cafe, stopped for my typical breakfast when dining out, & everything was perfect, although surprised the bill went over $20 not counting tip for the basic ham & cheese omelette with hash browns & sour dough toast along with a cup of coffee. Quiet but fairly busy, looked like a 2 person operation that handled everything with no problems, the waitress/hostess/cashier that perfected the lost art of waitressing, handling everyone with a very pleasant greeting, seating incoming customers with a clear fresh glass of iced water & menu, had a cup of coffee at my table as soon as I ordered it, delivered my meal with a bottle of ketchup, checked on my coffee at appropriate times, & made sure I had everything I needed several times, while the cook in the back kept up with all orders, maybe there were more working there but all I seen was the waitress & cook. My ham & cheese omelette with hash browns & toast was excellent, cooked perfect, nothing fancy smanshy, your basic picture perfect cafe breakfast which is what I love, half the places I go for breakfast don't even serve hash browns even those with "hash" in their name, lol... coffee nothing fancy but tasted fresh brewed & complimented my meal to a "T". Glad they were open when I needed a place to start my day with a wholesome full breakfast, and like I commented before, the waitress was fantastic, don't go out that often so a little sticker shock & I suppose cost of everything has significantly gone up, but I did leave an appropriate tip. Next time I'm in Long Beach early in the morning, this will be one of my go to places. read more

My husband and I were in Ocean Park for a week, and with few other options came in three times - once for brunch, once for a cinnamon roll to go, and once for their special Mexican dinners. The staff were all locals, very sweet and friendly, and quick service. We loved the cinnamon roll in particular! Food was simple and nothing fancy, the cafe was homey and had a little counter for locals to sit at, something you don't see often anymore. The waitresses we saw knew various guests by name. Basic cafe look, nice and clean, lot of people. Prices seem cheaper than average across the board. I like the manager/owner? Seems heavily involved. You can feel that employees and owner care about this place. A strong 4 stars. Food is above average cafe food as far as quality and taste. Fries were good, and all portions were good for the price. French toast is good for light eaters. A tip, your food is very good and well seasoned, don't use kraft cheese, good food with poor cheese, is slightly sad. Get a better brand. Why not 5 stars? I'm not sure how so many places can get breakfast basics and simple requests... so bad! I seem to have the absolute worst luck with breakfasts, which is probably why I don't frequent that many. Came in and ordered three French toast. That's it. Bread dipped in eggs (and milk / cream) and cooked on a griddle! I almost ordered a side of bacon and am so glad I didn't. I asked for three French toast, extra crispy. What I got was three soft / soggy French toast, at least 2 bites cold-ish from not even being cooked enough, and three different bright yellow yolk streaks that clearly didn't hit the heat, lol. It's sad because there aren't many places in the area. I rolled the dice and chose this one in spite of the under 3.5 ratings. Huge mistake. The waitress seemed nice enough, but how nice is she, REALLY, if she doesn't ensure that the ONE EXTREMELY SIMPLE thing I asked for, I didn't get??!? Wouldn't recommend it at all. To be fair, I had one item off of the menu... but the other recent reviews are far from complimentary. Food was rotten and bad. Bad meat and brown and red lettuce .Absolutely horrible experience last time we were there. Terrible service. Took forever to take out order and when the food came out it was not with the rest of our family. There was about a 10 minute split in between plates coming out. Then the order was completely wrong and missing a lot of stuff, so we got the rest of the food to go. When I got home I realized my order was wrong again. I ordered a chicken fajita burrito and got a steak one that had sour meat in it! With a nearby community named Oysterville, my husband and I hoped to find some good ones served up at local eateries. Raw, baked, pan fried all good. Anita's was the only restaurant we found that served ANY type of oysters and we were convinced by our charming waitress that their lightly breaded and grilled oysters were "dynamite". Well, not exactly so. The breading was thick and the grilling made the oysters tougher than I'd like. My husband ordered the halibut fish and chips which he reported had good flavor though a little dry. We also passed on the coleslaw as it was dry but loved the fries. Pleasant ambience, delightful waitress, clean establishment. Could be great for breakfast or burgers but we wouldn't go there again for seafood. read more

We've been here a few times for breakfast. We've had omelets and the usual bacon and eggs. The food is decent, but it's nothing special. There are a few other places on the Peninsula that are better IMO. We have not tried their Mexican dinners. I'm reading here that they've dropped "Anita's" from the name and they serve the same Mexican menu as El Compadres (LB). We went there one time and won't go back. Not the greatest experience. Service was bad. Never had water refilled; didn't come check on us; had to go ask for the check. Denver Omelette was really light on ingredients. The toast was about 1/2 of what you normally would get at any place in America serving breakfast. The hash browns weren't very crisp. 'Fountain sodas' on the menu implied refills; but a can of Diet Coke was brought to the table instead. I ordered eggs 'over hard' with my Chicken Fried Steak. They were basically over soft - undercooked with yolk running everywhere. The Chicken Fried Steak was probably the best part of the meal, but it wasn't anything special. Doubt we'll be back any time soon. The prices seem inflated for the quality of food being served. Update: 10/2/2022 We got a 'home-made' cinnamon roll to go. We ordered it BEFORE we received our other food. We took it home and microwaved it the next day for 20 seconds. OMG! It was really good. This place was great when it was Anita's Coastal Cafe, now its just "Coastal Cafe" and the service was terrible, the prices were outrageous for the amount of food and let's just say I could have made a much better breakfast at home. We were totally disappointed with this place. It took over 20 minutes just to get a cup of coffee. We decided to split a 3 egg cheese and ham omelette. It came served on a small plate, looked like a kids portion and the cheese wasn't melted, the omelette itself was flat, looked more like a crepe. We also ordered it with a biscuit and a side of gravy. The biscuit was good, but the gravy was tasteless and watery. The hash browns were barely warm and basically was a portion of 2 tablespoons. The kicker was we had to pay an additional $2.00 just to share a meal. read more

This is the kind of restaurant that, when I enter, I hope that it is not going to be horrendous and would hope that if can rise to being merely average. And average this place is. I visited it twice. The first time I was totally unimpressed and left wondering if the owners actually believed they were providing a good product. The breakfast we had was as average as average can get. The sausage gravy was forgettable, the hash browns fried to oblivion and the toast was the cheapest "wonder bread" style I have ever encountered. The entire breakfast sitting on the plate simply looked "sad". Plus the people working here did not seem to enjoy being here. I waited a year before going back thinking that perhaps I caught them on an off day and wiling to give them another chance. I ordered the daily breakfast special of corned beef hash. I have to say that it was marginally better than what I had experienced before with the exception of the terrible toast. This has to be some kind of 5 loaves for a dollar bread. The thing I did not appreciate on my second visit was the owner's treatment of the restaurant as if it was their own home. Some scruffy looking guy (I can only guess he must be an owner or at least related in some way) camped out at the counter and seemed to think that everyone in the restaurant would be interested in his conversation. Plus he went in and out of the kitchen bringing out food for himself all the while loudly talking. All-in-all I sat there wondering what I was doing here. Tried this place 2 times will not try a third. Hash browns were cold and almost raw. Meat was barely cooked. Other diners must have had similar experience. Watched the kitchen staff scraping plates. Easily half of every plate of food went into the trash. Waitress was nice though. Didn't bother complaining because of big sign over counter about "whining". I'll give five stars for what it is and where it is. It's a good café to have a good American breakfast. Service has been friendly every time we have been here. Most recently I had a nice Denver omelette, biscuit and side of gravy with hashbrowns. Everything was cooked just right. Gourmet fine dining, no. Five star review based on it being a good diner in a small town. Nothing fancy and I didn't mind coming in after clamming still wet a little sandy and with my rubber boots on. It's a standard "if I could give zero stars" place. The food was horrible. The chicken strips were disgusting because they were cooked in a dirty deep fryer (I have personal experience) or left down way too long. I ate some of the fries and I didn't send it back because I just wanted to get out of there. The service was also very slow. We will obviously never go back. read more

Serves one had more knowledge and the other... well didn't seem to know what she was doing. Food was good, the chicken I had was nicely breaded some parts of the chicken was still a little wet, the fries needed more potato meaning less fries. The soup of the day was alright the soup was chicken and dumpling, the dumplings were a little small. Over all the meal was filling and was good, I would maybe come back with friends or family but by myself maybe not. I forgot to take photos, but have eaten here @ Anita's several times, meals that come to mind are the Calamari basket, Oyster basket, clam chowder, cinnamon rolls all simply delicious and fresh. Everything at Anita's seems to be home made and from the freshest ingredients and it is just a stones through from the public beach access, you can see why the locals frequent this great restaurant!! read more
