Food: Got the half order of crab, with a cup of chowder & baked potato. Crab was sautéed in garlic, herbs, & butter. So delicious. Chowder was creamy and buttery, clams were perfect. Baked potato came with a giant dollop of sour cream, which I loved. For dessert, had the peanut butter pie, which was perfect to share for two. Watermelon lemonade was topped off with two little watermelon candies, so cute. Service: Very kind staff. Waitress was amazing and helped us decide dessert. Servers helped fill water and were quick to finish up our bill as our waitress was serving others. Smiles from everyone. Ambiance: Great music taste! Indie folk playlist for sure. Sat at a window table with the sun just peaking through. Adorable ocean theme, star fish on the windows were a nice touch. Went here to celebrate my birthday with my best friend and it was a great experience. Will 100% come back the next time I need a seafood fix. read more

We stopped by this restaurant last year, and the food was good enough that we decided to give it another go. The interior is plain, but not boring. The theme is nautical, as one would expect: Oars, octopi, anchors, and ships' wheels on the walls, some of them bordering on humor, suggesting that they aren't entirely stodgy. It's clean. The play Country music on the PA. Note for professional coffee drinkers: They will get you half and half if you ask for it, but they bring out non-dairy creamer first. The service is friendly, but it seemed understaffed while we were there this time. The food: Oyster shooters: Enough horseradish for a change. Wonderful. Cod fish and chips. We split them. The coleslaw was a tad tame. Nothing special. Spartan, like the interior. The tartar sauce was standard, but not too sweet. The fish was delicate with a light breading. No oil taste. Not bad. The fries were good with salt alone - the hallmark of good fries. They had a coating for extra crispiness, possible flour or cornstarch (maybe both). Everything was good, but not adventurous. We got a slice of thick toast with the meal that seemed unnecessary. The coffee tastes like the percolated kind that I had as a child. It brought back fond memories of formica tables, cigarette smoke, and a dog under the table. A "mom n pop" style restaurant filled to the brim with a waiting list at 6 pm on a Friday in February! Good sign! We had salad with little bay shrimp and very mild house made Bleu cheese dressing,chowder which was full of clams and potatoes and delicious. Sauteed scallops,and calamari which was melt in your mouth tender. Came with yummy garlic toast and my daughter got a really good baked potato. Drop Anchor is a very cute family-owned seafood restaurant along the main drag in Long Beach, and it was our surprise hit of the weekend. We were seated quickly, with waters brought out right away. They let us know right away they were out of halibut, which was a bit of a disappointment, as that's my favorite fish! But I was glad for the up-front notice. I didn't want anything deep fried, so I ordered a "lite" portion of the grilled Salmon -- which was still a sizeable portion! I opted for coleslaw as a side, with a cup of clam chowder to start. I also noticed they had Pelican Tsunami Stout on tap, so I had to get a pint of that -- would have been better if they had nitro, but I won't complain; it was still toasty and tasty. The chowder had a thinner base than I expected, but it was delicious (I did have to add a bit of black pepper, though). It was chock full of clams, with finely chopped potatoes, onions, and bacon. The clams were probably the most tender that I've ever had in a chowder, and it was obvious this was homemade. I really enjoyed it, especially with the stout beer. As I mentioned, the salmon filet (it's listed as a "steak" on the menu) was sizeable for a lite portion, and it was nicely cooked. I squeezed lemon over the top, and used the provided tartar sauce sparingly, as it really didn't need much. The coleslaw was good and crunchy, with a tasty dressing. The dish also came with a piece of garlic toast, which is always nice to have with a meal. My wife and I were eyeing several options for dessert, but the Key Lime pie said it was made in-house, so we had to give that a try -- and wow, that was the best Key Lime pie I've ever had! It was perfectly tart, and not too sweet; while being silky smooth at the same time. We split the piece of pie, but easily could have each polished off our own serving! Drop Anchor isn't as swanky or gourmet as some of the dining spots in town, so my 5-stars here may not compare to some of those more "gourmet" options. But there's something to be said for a humble, casual, family-run business that still puts out amazing food, without trying to put on airs. We hope to come back again next time we are in town. read more

They had a gigantic fudge bar at front of house, so we got to sample some cool fudge before chowing down on chowder. They also have nice merch. read more

Atmosphere is cute here. You can tell that there is a lot of love put into every decoration and idea. We ordered the halibut. Mine was quite tasty, albeit overcooked. My husband got a different, less desirable piece of salmon fish. And his being thinner was woefully overcooked. We aren't big on sending food back if edible, so we just ate what we received. The baked potato was cooked well. We chose the salad, which was fresh but the lettuce was VERY wet. We enjoyed their iced tea, too. Fresh tasting. We split a dessert and took one home. At the restaurant we had the Marion Berry Cobbler ala mode. It was very, very good! And for back in our hotel room, we split the key lime pie. Quite tart which we loved! Overall nice service. I loved that the Drop Anchor Seafood Grill is woman-owned and operated. Definitely a locals place but big and friendly with a good-sized varied menu. We arrived on a weekday just after the lunch rush. Still had to wait a few minutes for a table but that gave us a chance to check out -and be tempted by- the Anna Lena's homemade fudge display case in the waiting area. After we were seated, our waitress came by with menus and took our drink order. It was still a little busy but she chatted with us a bit and took our order. My husband had to have the steamer clams ($30): a big ol metal 2 pound bucket of Willapa Bay clams, steamed with Onion, Celery, Garlic, and Tomato, served with a sizable slice of genuine Texas toast. He was absolutely in heaven! I opted for the grilled salmon steak ($23 lite meal) served with your my choice of a side which was a Green Salad with little Bay shrimp or Cup of Chowder. I tried the chowder as it was touted as being The Best. The salmon was grilled perfectly and the cup of chowder was brimming full of clams and tiny diced potatoes but was thin, like evaporated milk. Flavor was good but needed a little more of something for my taste. I ate it and licked the bowl clean however. The abundance of clams was what set it apart form other chowders I've had. Don't think I could have eaten more than a cup though. You can't miss the restaurant as you're driving as it's the brightest blue (maybe the only blue) building on the street. Parking is ample but a tad pot holed. Some areas out back are unpaved so watch where you walk. Some handicapped parking is near the door with no steps inside or out so easily navigated by wheelchair/walker. Bathroom is ADA and comfortable & clean. Dining area is very large, easy to navigate through as well. Next time I'm saving room for the Marionberry Cobbler. Heck, next time I'm just having dessert!!! read more

If I could give this place 1,000,000 stars I would. We originally tried to get a table at a different seafood spot and were met with long wait times as well as attitude from the staff and other patrons over confusion as to which door we should enter through. We decided to walk over to drop anchor to check the wait time and it was much shorter so we decided to stay. Everyone working there was extremely welcoming, had a smile on their face, and seemed genuinely happy that we were there. We felt right at home, to the point that I made a joke to my partner about our waitress adopting me as her own (I am 27 and have a mom already, I just loved her so much). I also noticed that both staff and patrons recognized others in there and called each other by name which is always a good sign that it's a local favorite and probably a really good choice. I ordered the combination plate with chowder and Alfredo and it was all high quality and so so delicious. We are so happy that we ended up here instead of the other place. I promise you will be happy going to this spot, don't make a mistake by going anywhere else. read more

A fun beach themed space. Open and clean. A few souvenirs but the focus is on the food and the customer. The staff is friendly and very attentive without being bothersome. Water is refilled and dishes etc are removed when you're finished instead of leaving them in front of you on the table until you leave. They have a variety of fudge made in-house. Picked up a piece of Dark Chocolate caramel sea salt. Will try to remember to add to the review once I try it. We were wanting chowder and they delivered. We tried the SSST with chowder. Me a cup and my friend a bowl. SSST stands for Soup, Salad w/Shrimp & Toast (garlic toast). The chowder is Gluten Free. As such it is very thin liquid and when we got it we were like oh no it's going to be warm milk with potatoes and hopefully clams. The milky broth was quite flavorful just not thick. The potatoes to clams ratio was well balanced. They use a small cube chop for the potatoes (1/4 inch or so) and there was clam in each bite as well. The salad was romaine with some carrot shreds and about a 1/4 cup of shrimp. The salad mix was more watery than I prefer but it was good. The garlic toast had a nice crisp side while maintaining a nice soft pillowy texture. Overall a good find and though we arrived just prior to closing the staff was still extremely friendly and did not rush us to leave. read more

My wife and I decided to take a drive to the coast the day after the Fourth of July. We headed south, then west through Seaside, Oregon and on to Astoria where we planned to have lunch at one of our favorite pubs. Sadly, they were slammed, and after a long wait, then seating outside in the cold wind, we decided to abandon that plan and head to Long Beach. After consulting Yelp, we chose Drop Anchor Seafood which is right in town. There was a short wait (it was a holiday weekend after all), before we were seated. Our server came right away, but gave us a few minutes to peruse the menu. I decided on the fried oysters, and my wife chose the salmon fish and chips, her favorite and not always on seafood menus. Hers came with a choice of salad with shrimp (which she had) or clam chowder. Mine came with coleslaw, and both had freshly fried fries. Both our meals were top notch; my oysters especially were absolutely delicious. We couldn't leave without dessert, so we shared the warm Marionberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream. Wonderful! We finished our drive up the peninsula to Oysterville, then back home for a very nice Fifth of July. read more

A few years back, the Drop Anchor was excellent. I'm not sure what happened, but a lot has changed. The prices are sky high and the food is barely edible. Last time we ate here was probably 2 years back. We did not go back, cuz it was just that bad. That visit we each had the cod fish and chips. While it used to be a generous portion and nicely done, it was terrible. After 2 years, we decided to give them another chance. The staff is completely different and sloppy, at best. We each ordered the bowl portion of clam chowder. The bowls arrive on top of a plate that is swimming in spilled soup! Really!? This is sloppy and just shows the attitude of them staff. Who cares? It just looks as bad as it tastes, would seem to be the theme here. It is such a shame. The building is nice enough. Plenty of room and seating. We should have known that they have not improved, based on the large, empty parking lot. So, dear management, get a clue! If you can't draw a crowd take a hard look at the food, the menu and the servers! Maybe cut the menu back to something that can be well executed? And teach the employees what is acceptable and what is NOT acceptable. Then, have a grand re-opening. Or, just sell out and let some professionals come in a get rich! read more

The clam chowder was one of the top two chowders I've ever had my life. The con pieces were delicious but they were small. I asked her blue cheese dressing and I don't know what it was that I was given but it wasn't blue cheese dressing. The girls taking the orders know what they're doing, however there's one Hostess who couldn't be bothered and spent time looking at her phone before taking time to take my name to sit down. Your cell phone should not be on you when you're on the floor. Overall, I would come back and I would make a different choices . However I would get the clam chowder again for sure. Would not recommend. The service was absolutely horrible, we placed our order and never received our drinks. I had to ask the host up front for our drinks and for refills. Our waitress had no problem giving her attention to regulars, but we had to wait for the hostess to come check on us. The scallops had no crust and no flavor. The Drop Anchor resides where the old Dooger's used to be. I hadn't been since the new employee ownership took over, and I'm so glad we decided to stop in! You can tell the employee owners take pride in their restaurant. The Drop Anchor has ample seating in a nice open space. The restaurant was clean and tidy. The staff was friendly from the moment we were seated to the end of our meal, and in between. Everyone was friendly and smiling and that was so nice. The menu is substantial! Something for everyone! What struck me was they had plenty of selections for a multitude of diet needs: gluten free, vegetarian, seafood, meat lover's, smaller appetites...:it is a good and varied menu! Sandwiches, salads, pastas, burgers, steaks, seafood, soups. And, lots of locally sourced items such as their clams and oysters. If you can't find something here to whet your appetite, then I'd say you've got some major issues! My friend opted for the Cod fish and chips. She said she really enjoyed it, and I nabbed one of her chips to verify that they were, indeed, good! Fried to a golden brown and perfectly crispy. I was always a big fan of Dooger's clam chowder and verified with the waitress that their's is the same clam chowder as the old Dooger's. So, I went with the chowder and salad. The greens were fresh and crisp, with a nice pile of salad shrimp on top. The clam chowder was wonderful. You can't tell by the photo, but that bowl was chock full of clams and nicely diced potatoes. Very flavorful, with clams in every spoonful. You can even purchase a clam chowder kit, which includes a huge can of chopped clams, dehydrated potatoes and all the proper seasoning to recreate their delicious chowder in your own kitchen. We decided to splurge and split a slice of chocolate fudge cake. Oh. My. Goodness. Not only was this piece HUGE, it was perfectly rich, fudgey, and decadent! Exactly what you want from a chocolate fudge cake. A perfect piece of dessert to split with a friend. The Drop Anchor is definitely a place to check out when you go to Long Beach.
