Had a great time doing a semi-private lesson with Lachlan. He was a great instructor, definitely worth it!

Pulled into this fun looking purple building because I'm a surfer and saw surf boards. Lanny came…read moreout and was happy to strike up a conversation about surfing, surf boards, his history of shaping and then take the time to chat with me about my surfing, the boards and types of waves I ride and my goals. He recommended a board he had just shaped for me to try out. I came back 2 days later and borrowed the board to give it a test run, and it performed exactly like Lanny said it would! So I bought the board and have been loving riding it! If you are a surfer passing through Seaside, stop at the Purple House just south of town!

I read all the previous reviews and was astonished! I pulled up to Shuler Surf (the purple shop),…read moreunannounced and was met at the door of the purple surf shop by the owner, Lanny Shuler. He had no idea who I was. Lanny was the most awesome, most interesting man I have spoken to. He DID NOT chase me off, DIDN'T chew my wife and I out...just very pleasant. He took us on a tour of his shop and showed us his elaborate cat trail and cat yard to protect his 5 cats! We then talked about his unique design shaping on stand up boards. Very informative. We didn't purchase one at that time, and Lanny knew we were not there to do that then. But he still took the time to help us. We are still thinking about the SUP we want, and we'll be sure to give Lanny a call! I suggest you follow him on instagram for some awesome design ideas. I did. DO NOT pay attention to the two poor reviews!! Not sure they were at the right place.

My family of 5 had a 3 hour lesson with NW Women's Surf Camp and a 1 hour follow up lesson the next…read moreday in the water. I can't say enough about Lexie and Aiden. They did a great job explaining safety at the Oregon Coast in the beginning of the lesson that put my mind a bit more at ease for my three kids. They also taught them about rip tides and conditions to make a great surf day. They were able to get all 5 of us up repetitively in the water and helped give tips of how to advance to the next level. They were just lovely people and caring teachers. I would recommend NW Women's Surf Camp without hesitation and plan to use them again in the future!!!

Somehow, I decided that surfing might be a really fun thing to try before I croak, and I set my…read moregoals to give it a shot before I turned 50. I had heard nothing but wonderful things about NWWSC, and as I was seeking a safe, women-centered program, I decided to sign up with Lexie for a weekend camp with NWWSC. After meeting up with Lexie and Dennis at a reasonable time Sat. morning, and making sure we all had the correct gear, we made our way to our surf spot, a gorgeous Shangri-la of a beach, south of Seaside. We started off our lesson at an overlook by learning how to read the waves, what to look for when picking out your spot, and how to best time your session. Once we were on the beach, we continued covering all the essentials that would make for a safe first experience in the waves. I loved the pre-surf yoga she led us through, something I had never done on the beach, and a much needed warm-up to help us become more flexible and avoid injury. Once we had practiced some dry-runs of the essential 'pop-up', we were ready to head out to the water. I felt well-prepared and gave it my all, but I had some difficulty figuring out whether I was regular foot or goofy, and spent too much time on Saturday sorting it out. I was a bit discouraged as I watched the other women in our group sail past me, but I wasn't going to give up, and neither was Lexie. With her glowing positive attitude and encouraging personalized direction, she gently continued to push me a little farther. On the second day, when I finally stood up for my first wave, we both howled out loudly in unison! My first experience with Lexie at NWWSC was 2 yrs. ago. Since then, I've bought my first board, sought out and enjoyed surf spots all along the PNW coast, and treated myself to a vacation of warm water surfing in Hawaii. Me and my three closest surfer-girl buddies (all who have trained with Lexie) enjoyed an epic private coaching session with her last year, where she continued to push us and brought us to the 'outside'. When my daughter is ready, I will be eager to sign us up for a mother-daughter session with Lexie, as I know she will provide the kind, empowering mentorship my girl will need to ignite her stoke. After my first surf camp weekend, life has never been the same. I surfed all last weekend, will surf with my honey to celebrate our anniversary this weekend, and can't wait for another surfer-girl getaway in just a couple of weeks! I am eternally grateful for Lexie and NWWSC for giving me that initial stoke and all the essentials to safely enter the sport, and for all the fun, challenge, and excitement surfing has brought to my life.

Cannon Beach is one of those magical coastal towns that feels like stepping into a postcard. Yeah…read moreit looks exactly like the postcard. From the moment I arrived, I knew this was the spot to have bonfires. The beach itself is wide and inviting, and Haystack Rock towers out of the ocean just off the shore, a stunning icon that draws everyone's eye. But it's not just the shoreline that makes Cannon Beach special. You can walk along the neighborhoods and enjoy the cute little shops. Downtown is small but charming. I loved walking through the artsy streets filled with galleries, specialty shops, and cozy cafés. I was able to slow down away from city life, shop for a handmade memento, and sit with a latte watching the waves. On a breezy afternoon, I saw people flying their kites and took advantage of the open beach breeze, so fun to watch. If you want a beautifully scenic beach getaway that's both peaceful and inspiring, Cannon Beach is absolutely worth a stop.

With being the location for the popular Haystack Rock, you'd think this beach would be so crowded,…read morebut it is pleasantly not. On top of that, Canon Beach is so easily accessible. There are tons of access points to the beach, but the easiest is to park in the Haystack Public Parking lot and walk across the street, past the public bathrooms and homes, and you're immediately in front of Haystack Rock. Besides Haystack Rock, Canon Beach itself was kinda boring to me though. The long stretch was rockless and smooth, just sand and ocean horizon. My preference is to see more boulders and rocks to keep things interesting. This beach is excellent for runners, though, because of the smooth sand and long stretch. There were a lot of people clustered around Haystack Rock, but less dense further on. If you're looking for seashells, there are none. The sand is super smooth all the way. It is a nice beach but not too many people hang out here, which is great if you're local. For the most part, we saw people come to see the Rock and then leave.
