Went here last weekend to see if they rented crab rings. They didn't, but they told me the closest place to them that did and told me where I should go if I wanted to catch anything. She was very friendly and helpful, definitely a place I would come back to for tackle or bait. read more

This place has so much potential to be so much better. Booked a charter for tuna with them far in advance. Reserved whole boat for a set amount $2500. Explained that I had a group of 8-12 coming and we would split the cost evenly among the number of people, was told that is no problem. Day of the trip 11 of us go in to the office to pay and buy fishing licenses. The lady tried to charge us $275 each because we wanted to pay seperately instead of one ticket of $2500! The reasoning was she said it took more time to ring up individuals! Wow! $525 more! No thanks! Get your head checked. I paid the $2500 on one ticket on my credit card. We get on the boat and get moving. Just over the bar and in to the ocean one of the engines has problems and we have to turn around. A long slow ride back. During this time no one was making an effort to find us another option, salmon fishing on another boat, tuna fishing on another boat, nothing! Just gee sorry about that. The deckhand called some guides he knew in the area and found us two the were back to the dock early with limits of salmon and they agreed to take us salmon fishing. After a refund we left tackle time and went salmon fishing. Not the same as tuna fishing that our guests flew out here to do but we had a good time with First Strike Guide Service in Astoria. We fished tuna with Tackle time the year previous and had a so so experience but thought that was due to his regular crew being out that and having some fill in guys that didn't have it together. My son had to show them how to bleed the tuna, then we asked several times for the tuna to be packed in ice, the put them in a box and put a scoop of ice on them, that is not enough, tuna need to be well chilled. The had tons of ice but they were really stingy with it. I asked Capt Gene to please ice them better he replies oh they are plenty cold. BS! That night we could not even clean them they were so mushy and that was after 5 hours buried in ice that we HAD TO BUY at outrageous prices. Lesson learned here good service is not cheap and cheap service is not good! If you want to go tuna fishing do yourself a favor and spend a few dollars more and go with a different charter. Ilwaco, WA has some excellent choices. At the end of the day I couldn't help but feel like Tackle Time didn't really care. They did not seem to appreciate the business we brought them and they were not at all concerned if we would use them in the future. There were other small things that were a bit unsettling but added together with the rest it is just to much BS. read more

"You will catch tuna" "we use live bait" "we use fresh bait" "I won't take you out if I can't put you on the tuna". Take these statements with a huge grain of salt. I urged family members to come on this trip because of a local recommendation, but was ashamed that I did when only one of five caught one small tuna, the other 4 skunked. That for close to 1400 bucks, no lunch provided. The boat did catch 3 other fish, all trolling. I believe it was because the live bait well was broken, as we learned out at sea. Out came frozen bait, not even close to fresh. All my guests vowed to never do it again. No apology or offer to make good was made. The captain crashed into the already broken dock in time for his date, according to one guest, after a return trip that was an hour less than the trip out. They had been moving in quite in advance. At times small boats were catching multiple fish within a few hundred feet of our skunk, and the captain would move away to avoid hearing his customers proclaim "they're catching doubles!".
