We booked a last minute sturgeon catch and release trip with Kelly's adventures. We were impressed at first that he would respond right back to us even though it was after business hours. The morning we left he was ready to go by the time we got there. He has a very nice boat and great equipment. He's knowledge and experience near Astoria was right on. In the 4 hours we were out there the sturgeon just kept coming. He knew where they were and their swimming patterns. In addition to his knowledge and experience he was an all around nice guy that loved fishing and was fun to talk to. We had a last minute guide service change, which was the best thing that happened to us!!! We were granted an opportunity to fish with one of the top guides in Astoria. It was a busy day on the river with lots of boats, and we saw very few fish being caught. Pat used his years of experience from growing up on the river to put us in & on the fish. We were catching fish while everyone else was watching! I'm an experienced fisherman and Pat was an inspiration to be around and someone who has a vast knowledge of the fishing. He was a patient teacher who showed the newbies how fish and was willing to show the experienced fisherman a new trick or two. I was eating lunch at the Marina in Astoria watching the guide boats come in. There guys with a few fish here and there then there was Capt. Pat. He had a full load of huge salmon and boat full of grown men smiling like a kid at Christmas. I had originally not planned on fishing this trip but after seeing his haul, I decided I had to give it a try. I went and talked to him and he said he could get me on his boat the next day. Boy am I glad he did we had an excellent trip. He put us on fish right off the bat and had us limited out in just a couple hours and I caught a huge King!. Hired Patrick for my second day of Sturgeon fishing this time with my wife and 15 year old daughter. He met us on time. He explained everything and took us on a quick fun ride up the river. Immediately we began catching huge fish which he would pull up for us to take photos with before releasing them safely back into the water. He kept us laughing and entertained all day. We caught so many fish. It was unbelievable. I've fished for years and this was something special. Can't wait to come back to Salmon fish with him and maybe even go Crabbing. Last minute chance to fish fir salmis on our trip here in Portland and Patrick Kelly was an awesome fishing guide. We only had 4 hours to fish and we met on his big fully ship shape boat at the dock in Astoria. We had like 7 hits and caught 4 really nice sized Silver salmon on a day where no one else was catching fish. Patrick is a knowledgable guide that worked extremely hard to provide a great fishing experience for is. We missed the peak of the run and fishing was tough for almost everyone, but Patrick's knowledge and attention to detail pit us on fish (spring chinook) when no one else was catching. He has a large and very comfortable boat, and took care of all the details from filleting our fish to giving us tips on how to cook our catch! Pat Kelly (Kelly's Adventures) is the best guide we could have hoped for. We scheduled a salmon/crabbing combo trip and overslept that morning. Pat could have kept our deposit and wished us well. Instead, he stuck around and waited for us to get there, shifted gears on the fly, and took us out for a great day of sturgeon fishing. Pat is an AWESOME guide, pleasure to ride with and great at what he does! If I had planned a perfect trip out in my mind it wouldn't have been as good as the real thing. He is great at putting you on fish! (We caught sturgeon for 5 hrs straight with 3 on at the same time several times. 3.5 to 7' long and great fighting fish). Boat is nicest in the harbor. I called another guide service on short notice. I was referred to Kelly's Adventures. Pat was excellent, knowledgeable, and friendly. Add to that ethics that are almost never seen. Pat refused to give me his business card for a possible steelhead trip without having me call the original guide; as he refused to pilfer another companies customer. Oh, and the best part. Pat did an awesome job as our guide. It was near the end of the king salmon run and there were a lot of boats on the water but not very many were catching anything. Pat grew up fishing in the area and used a few secrets of his on rigging the gear to help us all catch our limits within a couple of hours. Went out with Captain Pat this last Saturday with my father. Started the day slaying rock fish and chased after Salmon the rest of the day. Although the Salmon fishing was slow for everyone that day, Pat did his best to put us on the fish and put a full day in fishing. My husband and I had such an amazing time with Captain Pat! We had caught our limit of fish and back to the Bay by 9:30 that morning while all the other boats we're still working on it. And the waters of the Columbia in this area can be pretty treacherous, but we felt completely safe with our captain. Pat was awesome! A great guy who's all about finding the fish and having a great time. We were fishing catch and release sturgeon and fought with at least 10 of those monsters! Some were too big to even pull into the boat. Salmon season starts August 1st. Next time we visit Astoria we'll be sure to book another trip with Pat for salmon! read more
