I went buoy 10 salmon fishing with Garibaldi. I had signed up for a tuna trip, but they didn't get enough people to sign up so it was cancelled. I spoke with the folks at Garibaldi Charters and switched to salmon at buoy 10. They were very helpful. Then we couldn't get enough people to sign up but the captain (Chad) decided to take me out anyway. To fill out the boat his wife came as well. It was a slow bite day. Everyone was struggling to catch something. Chad worked his butt off to put me on fish and burned more gas than my ticket was worth. I got fish. I can't say enough how amazing Captain Chad was. He is a wealth of information on all Oregon fisheries, and for someone new to salmon fishing, the best thing you can do is catch a ride with Captain Chad. Took a halibut trip today and the boat limited out! We also got into some black cod. Capitan Marty is awesome! You can tell that he loves fishing, every time we hooked up he was hollering like a mad man! Wayne was our deck hand, and he worked his ass off to make sure we had what we needed. Thanks again Wayne! My only advise to anyone going on a halibut trip is: if you can bring a two speed reel it will make the fishing more enjoyable. We were fishing in 800 feet of water so it's hard to reel these fish up to the boat and my arms were worn out afterwards. Capitan Marty recommends at least 80 pound braid for your setup. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY! The captain was extremely rude, and the deck hand too! The fishing trip was supposed to be a kids trip. The captain spent a lot of time on the phone and the speaker was on. We could hear them throwing the F bomb. The captain was driving the boat with his bare feet, there was no cream or sugar for the coffee, no soap in the bathroom, and no real direction. The worst part about it was it was supposed to be a "5 hour" fishing trip. In total, we were allowed 45 minutes of actual fishing because we went 1.5 out and once we got to the fishing spot, we were allowed 1-2 minutes at a time before he would yell for us to reel in the poles and would move. The captain overheard a conversation about what he was doing and the fact we didn't have any time to actually catch the fish. He stopped the boat, left the captain's chair and very rudely told us he would park the boat and we "wouldn't catch anything!" It was a good trip until we scheduled with Garibaldi Charters read more

Worse rock bottom fishing excursion on the Oregon coast, ever! Spent 6 hours in an undersized fishing boat (smaller than their advertised primary vessel) and caught half of our (a party of 8 beginners) maximum, this never happened in my 5 other rock bottom fishing excursions off the Oregon coast. The Captain was gruff, abrupt, even said, "this is gonna be a long day," after the first cast. Warning, this is NOT the charter to use! read more

During a one week fishing trip, we fished with Garibaldi Charters at dawn one morning, to head out to the ocean to go bottomfishing. The boat we were booked on was the NORWESTER. GC got back to my message within 24 hours, and I was able to book my trip easily. Check-in was also simple, and we headed to the boat. The Norwester is a bit beaten up and old, but it's functional. Besides, luxury boats are not necessarily the kinds of boats where you want to bring in tons of rockfish. We took off on time, and within an hour, we were at the location at which we'd begin bottomfishing. On this trip, there were approximately 15 people or so, ranging from one 8 year old to older gentlemen. I was one of 2 women on the boat, though. I really had no idea most girls don't fish. The trip in itself is about a 2.5-3 star experience. First, I don't like bottomfish much. All the "sea bass" (not to be confused with Chilean Sea Bass) tastes the same, and big or small, ugly or not, it tasted exactly like the same. Now Lingcod was better - but there is a limit of only 1-2 a person, depending on when you go. We did have some interesting catches on the boat, though, including a "bucket starfish". Our captain was a nice older gentleman who brought his dog with him - a one-eyed black dog with only one eye, and apparently totally used to boat travel as he sailed to the destination on the bough in his life vest. So why does GC get 4 stars? ALL of the additional points are earned by Todd, our deckhand. I cannot emphasize enough how much more enjoyable he made this trip. There was only one of him, and 15 of us, but he never stumbled once or left anybody wanting for anything. He was so friendly and pleasant, and though he must have been exhausted by mid-day netting all of our fish and helping us all, you'd never know it looking at him. Towards the end of the trip, I had not caught nearly as much as other people, and who grabbed a rod and dropped his line, jiggied and had Rob and me bring up our best catches of the day? TODD. I am still astonished and intrigued at how talented of a fisherman he is. He would literally drop the line in, and 20 seconds later, have something bite. My left hand was cuts to bits and pieces, my right arm was throbbing, and jiggy as I tried, I'd catch nothing while he caught everything - - including the biggest Lingcod of the day at 8.5 lbs and a Sea Trout. If you do go to Tillamook Bay and want to head out of Garibaldi Marina - make sure you look into Garibaldi Charters. If you do book a trip, make sure you ask for the trip where Todd will be. He really makes the trip. I fully intend to go back during Tuna season to fish w/ Todd again. I figure I will absorb some of his talent by osmosis. read more

Booked a tuna trip for last Saturday and had a great time on the Norwester. Checked in at 4 am and then headed down to the dock. Make sure you bring your own snacks, food and drinks. The swells kept us in the "bar" for about 45 minutes but the Coast Guard came out and gave us the all clear to pass through. The boat ended up with 36 fish. The first 18 were football (10-15lb) but as the day progressed they got up to 30-35 lb. I can't remember the captains name but Mitch was the deckhand. There's a lot going on when you troll for tuna and everyone has to help out. Mitch had us all working as a team after a few "fish on". My only complaint was the lack of live bait used. On Monday we did the light tackle on Alaska Sunrise. We were hoping to limit at seven each but our group of 9 ended up with 42 so I can't complain. They set out 6 crab pots and our share was 38 crab! They cook the crab for you but we spent over 2 hours shucking it. Willie and Joann (husband/wife) team were deckhands and were awesome. We paid partially in advance and the rest via check the morning of. When we checked in on Monday we had to remind him that tuna trip on Saturday and 6 of the 9 light tackle slots were already paid for. But then again it was 530 am and I wasn't fully awake either. You can buy daily fishing licenses and shellfish license from them. Make sure to tip the deckhands. They work hard and definitely deserve it. Can't wait to fish with them next year! read more

It took a while to get to fishing after leaving port. Concerned me as we only had 6 hour trip. But once we started fishing THE BOAT LIMITED OUT ON ROCK FISH IN AN HOUR TO HOUR AND A HALF. Crab pots were full and we limited on them also. Captain tried to keep us out longer by sight seeing. Boat still got back at 11am. One thing to my surprise was that the $105 included fish cleaning and crab boiling. Something that is extra money on San Diego boats. I would recommend going out with Captain Lance on the Norwester for bottom fishing and crabbing. Although I have no other experience with the other guys also offered by Garibaldi Charters they still come highly experienced with great reviews. I would not hesitate booking with this outfit again. If you're searching for a great pacific northwest fishing charter, you can stop. You just found it. I went out on the Norwester and Captain Lance and couldn't be happier. I've never seen a deck hand hustle like Mitch either, and he's rediculously funny and good at showing you how to get on the fish and keeping the boat fishing. The owner / office staff is great and they are fundamentally honest people. I wanted to go out on a guided Coho trip but was in town very early in the season and even though that was a more expensive option they were up front about a slow start to the run this year and said they'd take me but it would be 50/50 chance of a no fish day. We went with their suggestion and limited out on rockfish and took home a bunch of crab meat to boot. I will be returning for some Salmon and Tuna fishing in the near future and so should you. read more

Lots of fun aboard the D & D catching black cod and Dungeness crabs. A one time opportunity but I will try to go back and catch halibut sometime. I organized a tuna charter for 7 people. After a lot of research we decided to go with Garibaldi Charters. Specifically, we were looking for a charter service that would do live bait tuna fishing, with the goal of experiencing a bait stop. We were on the D&D with captain Lance and Rob was our deckhand. Generally it was a decent trip. Everybody involved was friendly and prompt. However, there were a few things that really irritated me. 1) We never used live bait. This trip was more expensive and enticing because of the prospect of using live bait. However, after we got out there, they said the water was too rough to use it. The part that bothers me is the ocean was no rougher than a normal day (according to them), and live bait wasn't an option. If on the average day, live bait can't be used, then it shouldn't be advertised so aggressively, or they should warn customers it may not work. Especially when their trips are more expensive then charters that only troll. 2) Captain lance spent a lot of time on his phone while we were trolling. At least twice this caused him to turn very sharp and our lines ended up getting tangled. One of the times we had to stop fishing for 15+ minutes because of how bad the mess was. Dude, we're paying $2,000 for the day of fishing, get off your damn phone. 3) Fish weren't iced properly. When we got back to the port with our 31 tuna, some of them were completely warm because there wasn't enough ice in the bags. Very irritating, especially because they had tons of unused ice on board. Aside from those significant issues, they were friendly and knew what they were doing. Plenty of rods pre-rigged, space, and Rob worked hard to keep us fishing as much as possible. He also answered any questions we had and kept it fun back there fishing. I'm not sure if I'd use them again... I'm leaning towards no. read more

My wife and I took the afternoon fishing trip on 6/20/19. This was our first fishing trip on the ocean, and my wife's first ever fishing trip. We had a wonderful experience. The captain kept moving us to find fish and the crewman was extremely helpful. He assisted my wife in how to work her pole and even brought her a different one. The deckhand would not stop cracking jokes about how he would be running the boat next year cause this captain was not sea worthy but by the time we got out there he could not stop puking long enough to get us prepared and when he did he had a horrible attitude like the world owed him something. we had to learn the boat in order to get our gear ready while the captian bitched about not wanting to be out there as we had to tell him where go to find the fish. Captain Rob did a great job of getting us on the fish quickly. We were bottom fishing and then went to ling cod. We limited out by 10am, and had shoved off around 7am ! What a beautiful day on the water, the weather could not have been more perfect.
