Memorial honoring Dennis L. Edwards whom lost his life during the construction of the Dennis L. Edwards Tunnel
Kenneth K.

Sunset Rest Area is located 31 miles East of Seaside, Oregon, on highway 26. A fairly large rest area for both autos and truckers. The rest stop is in a park settings with clean restrooms, picnic areas and vending machine. What makes this rest stop different from most is that the Steam Donkey Trail can be accessed from the rest area. The trail got its name from steam donkeys which are steam powered winches (logging engine) used in the area over a century ago! Wonderful rest stop with a lot of history! Let's go hiking ! Enjoy !

Unfortunately for us Garmin actually got confused and took us to two different locations before finding this beautiful rest stop.

Best BLT on their pub bun...chock full of bacon!! Mmmm mmmm! Their club house sandwich is yummy, too. The portions are big! Fries, tater tots and onion rings are perfectly crispy. They also have the best fried cheese curds!! They do fried food well. Honestly, you can't go wrong with what you order. Service is fast and friendly. The restaurant itself is dark and dated, but it's clean and that's all that matters to me. The bar looks like it's well stocked and you can always find locals hanging about. Hunter's is a great choice for some substantial and yummy food.

First off it was nice and big, and extremely clean (even the women's restroom!). We were greeted right away and we sat at the bar. Our service was efficient, she swung by to make sure the food was good and then again when she noticed a beer glass was empty but she did not hover, which is what we prefer. We both got cheeseburgers and jojo's and left properly stuffed. Our burgers were perfect and those jojo's were huge and tasty! She noticed when we were ready for our check and we appreciated being able to get in and out so quickly as we still had a bit of a drive ahead of us and we were already tired.

Would have been nice to be told when we checked in at 2:45 pm. that they we're running later than the 20 minutes we were originally told. So we'll be having a conversation about check in and out times. Yes, the cleaning crew has extra duties do to Covid-19. Not my problem! I was told check in is at 3:00 pm not 3:43. So waiting almost three quarters of an hour to get into our rental wasn't that bad. The grounds are awesome. Lots of cool plants. Chickens and Duck's running around. A couple awesome Dogs that are very friendly. Each T. H. is different but they all have BBQ'S. our bbq is a tad rusty inside but it look's usable. There used to be a Disc Gllf Course here but its been turned into an Event Space. I don't know when the change was made but I saw pics from 2018. The loft is a low ceiling and the bedroom is a little cramped but still pretty awesome for a T.H. The Bathroom is good sized. I was pleasantly surprised at it's size. I really like all the wood interior. Really charming. The Kitchen isn't huge but definitely Full Size. A 10 Gallon Hot Water Tank gives you about a 10 minute shower, so no lounging. Covid-19 is still among us so most of Oregon is still in lock-down. Most businesses are closed and there'll be No Fireworks this year but the weather is decent and were at the coast. Worth it! I needed this weekend. I just got laid off to join the 1 in 3 Americans who are unemployed currently. I'll take a siesta and get another J. O. B. So, for now, I'm going to enjoy this weekend with my family.

She was genuinely friendly, gave useful local trail information and made sure that our stay was well over our usual expectations. The rooms were very clean & the bed was very comfortable and the river view in the back was a great place to rest and drink your morning coffee. Would recommend this establishment highly.

I booked through hotels.com and she was able to fix something I couldn't do through Hotels.com. It took her a while but she was super helpful and made it happen. That's always a good way to start a stay. We were in room 117 with 2 queen beds. 4 pillows each. Mattresses were comfortable. Pillows were a good mix of firm and medium. Sheets were soft. AC/Heat was great. Bathroom was very small. The door barely missed the toilet but it's fine. (:-) It's cramped but functional and I love the big huge bath counter outside the bathroom. Lots of space to spread out. So I'm not complaining at all. The big counter is way more important than the cramped potty room. The breakfast was a typical lower end continental breakfast plus PEELED hard boiled eggs and ONE waffle maker. It was ok for free. Get there early because it can be a long wait for a waffle. They DO have excellent yogurt in the fridge with milk so don't miss yogurt. We took several back to the room and then skipped the breakfast on the 2nd morning because breakfast closes at 9:30. Here's a fridge in the room so we had yogurt this morning. I don't need the sugar in the prepackaged muffins and breakfast rolls. If you find this review Helpful please VOTE!
