Came in on a Tuesday around 3pm and there was a decent selection of flavors. I purchased a vanilla milk chocolate and a chocolate peanut butter cupcake. Cupcakes were fluffy and moist and frosting was yummy. The frosting consistency on the vanilla cupcake seemed a bit denser than usual but could be the cold weather. I've only ever come during the warmer months and the frosting seemed softer. Still, it was delicious. The lady that assisted us was friendly. I've only been to this location once but the cupcakes were really good! I especially like the chocolate cupcakes. They are sweet but it's not an overwhelming sweetness that lingers in the mouth which is what I really like about them. The only downside is that they are a bit pricey but I would recommend trying this spot out if you are ever in the mood for cupcakes. read more

I stepped in to the shop to see what flavored cupcakes they had to offer. This bake shop has been mentioned to me on the Facebook website by one of my friends. The varieties the shop had on display reminded me of the cupcakes sold by Cupkates food truck years ago. I love cupcakes, but I can only have it in moderation, which means lopping off the sweet icing and eating half of one mini without my glucose spiking upward. I didn't have enough cash on hand ($10) to purchase three cupcakes ($3.75 each). Instead I settled for day old baked cupcakes - one salted caramel and three mini carrot cupcakes. Cost: $5.95. The mini cupcake I had was still moist and quite flavorful. The icing was a tad too sweet for me and sadly I had to lop off the icing. Hey, the icing is the best part of any and all cupcakes. Husband had the salted caramel cupcake. Delicious he proclaimed. I have to admit the sign did not lie. My mini carrot cupcake was a "damn good cupcake". What the heck! I have never had such amazing cupcakes. Strong flavors and not sickingly sweet. Cake is so moist and soft and the cream is light/creamy and everything has the right ratio. Key lime pie had a custardy filling that blew my mind. Same with the chocolate raspberry. Coming to downtown Berkeley was never that easy. I never drive; and even if I do, it'd be $5 or $6 Oakland Bay Bridge toll back home. It's better to take BART to spare the air. Ordered a Gender Reveal cake with Cupcakin' via email. Paid via Square. Had a couple emails back and forth to determine flavors and what would look best with the colored filling. The process and pickup was easy. Pricing is fair. The outside of the cake wasn't quite what I envisioned - we were hoping for more pastel colors, but cake itself made up for it! The chocolate cake was very moist and delicious. The vanilla buttercream was a bit thick and very sweet, but went well with the chocolate cake. We also got a few cupcakes. Ducked in the closest establishment to escape the rain after dinner at Super Duper Burgers and luckily ended up in one of my favorite cupcake heavens. The flavors and quality of the cupcakes at Cupcakin' Bakery set them apart from the other cupcakeries. There were so many tasty chocolate, red velvet, hearts/kisses-laden flavors leftover from Valentine's Day, but the key lime pie cupcake was what caught my eye. I love key lime pie. It was tastefully crafted with a graham cracker crust, moist tangy vanilla cake, topped with light key lime vanilla buttercream sprinkled with graham cracker and lime zest. Needless to say, one bite of it was perfection. I wish I had gotten another one or 6 to enjoy at home. We love a good "designer" cupcake in this house and we were absolutely blown away by cupcakin! It's a really cute little shop with a really varied offering. Both of the cakes we tried had this wonderful surprise filling in the center and the flavors are really dialed in! Parking in the Berkeley area is all metered, but my friend and planned to visit three spots and this was spot #1. We arrived at opening (11am) and there was already a small line out the door. They allowed parties of two inside and the shop had several cupcake stands behind plexi-glass. I assumed the Key Lime Pie was a signature cupcake as the cashier assured us that there were more in the back and not to worry, so we ordered that the Chocolate Salted Caramel (they had both chocolate and vanilla), as well as the Flavor of the month: Dirty South which I believe was a sweet potato with cinnamon. My friend and I tried the Key Lime and I can definitely see why it's the most popular flavor. It has a very distinct key lime pie bite and the cake was super moist and complimented the graham cracker crust perfectly. I don't come here a lot, but after some tasty eats, there is nothing better than a sweet treat to satisfy both the salty, savory, and sweet tooths. It's a short walk from the plethora of Asian restaurant that's closer towards the Southern Entrance of Berkeley campus. When asking the staff whether they have location specific cupcakes, they had indicated they should have all the same flavors that the one in Oakland has.
